If you’re thinking of letting your property through Cowen’s, don’t.
Our property was an 18 month old new build and in excellent condition when we decided to use Cowen’s as our letting agent. Three tenants have rented the property since 2018 with the last one moving out in December, 2023. Cowen’s “inspected” the property after each tenant and sent a report stating that the property was in good condition and let the tenants leave with their financial bond.
When we regained access to the property we discovered a huge amount of damage and unauthorised (bad) decorating, removal and installation of fixtures inside and outside the property; too much to list. The three worst were: fitting an aftermarket central heating control to the boiler, replacing the perfectly working original, which we will now have to pay an engineer to remove. Second, a Sky dish was in stalled with cables running through the house. Third, one of the tenants had drilled through a central heating pipe in the living room resulting in a bodged paperback book size hole which was covered over with a mixture of Pollyfiller and cereal box cardboard! There is much more, ALL of which was not authorised by the owner and NONE of the damage and unauthorised removals/installations was picked up during the “inspection” by Cowen’s. If Cowen’s had compared the before and after photos they could easily have seen the many faults and unauthorised work.
When we complained, Mr Cowan came to inspect the property himself and claimed it was “wear and tear” and fine to re-let! He did offer to repaint the walls back to their original colour but only if we re-let the property with them again, which we will not do. We are now over two months and many pounds into repairing the property before we sell it.
Very unprofessional of Cowen’s letting the tenants go with their bonds which is supposed to be retained to compensate the owner if the property is not returned in the same condition as when they started renting it. Avoid.

Just another unlawfully discriminating Letting Agents in this country in a day and age when political correctness is rife be that right or wrong and the majority of peoples circumstances are respected regardless of race, gender and financial background...... however not when it comes to this abhorrent and wholly detestable industry that is potential renting from the buy to let agents.
So my partner inquired about a two bedroom flat in Scarborough at £595 per month and was upfront and honest about the fact that we as a couple were claiming benefits at the moment due to our personal circumstances, both of us have worked solidly most of our lives in decent employment but as mentioned our circumstances have changed unfortunately. So what did we have to offer then....affordable finances of up to £1000 rent per month, two homeowner Guarantors, over fifteen years of clean rent references with no issues between landlord and tenant, deposit money available, non smokers or pets or children, and the ability to give notice of just a month with the current rental situation of which in London is costing £850 a month, substantially more than the £595 here....
What happens is some "employee" Nicki responds back to my partner saying the landlord wants someone in full time work thus immediately shutting the door in our faces without as much as a consideration, absolute clear and unlawful discrimination on the part of the trash that constitutes for a "landlord" who although in their right as the property owner can refuse but clearly thinks everyone on benefits must be low life trash, probably just another moron who bought the property cheap but couldn't afford it outright and has benefited disgracefully from the Buy to Let boom in the UK. This "Nicki" should learn to read English and reply having actually read the wording of the initial application instead of mentioning an actual viewing which gets peoples hopes up, perhaps she would be better of working in a Pound Shop or McDonald's where you don't get paid to think in a job......totally unprofessional in every way.
Adding briefly to the above,we are both thoroughly decent people in life with hobbies and interests i being myself an historian and my partner a photographer so we don't need some narrow minded idiot judging our "suitability" for their two bit property.
In summery of our experience here with these Agents i would advise people not to use their services especially if you are looking to rent and are on benefits in your current situation as you will most likely be disappointed and rejected immediately, ignore their positive reviews these people discriminate via the landlords they "serve" and do not wish thoroughly decent people who can easily afford their rents with excellent credentials to move into one of the properties they advertise.
In all the time over the last year of trying to up and leave London for a better life and an affordable one i have never seen such a crooked and corrupt industry such as this one, the law will be changed one day and the kinds of Agents such as these people will not have a business anymore, nor will extremely greedy individuals in life hoping to make a quick buck in buying up cheap houses and flats have that ability anymore when there is such a need for the understanding that people have the right to afford a better life for themselves without disgusting and abhorrent discrimination on the part of said prospective landlords and middle men Agents who are nothing less than lackeys to those paying their wages in life.

Just wanted to tell local Scarbados peeps that Liam at Andrew Cowen Estate Agents was a truly top bloke overseeing a holiday flat purchase for a property company I'm a Director in. Obviously the agents represent their client's interests as a priority but Liam was the consummate professional in hand-holding the sale/purchase through keeping everyone happy and was calm, helpful and considerate throughout. Wow! We recently bought our property though Andrew Cowen and would absolutely recommend them to anybody looking at purchasing or selling without hesitation! The whole team were very effective in our purchase, working way above and beyond expectation to get the deal done no matter what it took.
We had to work to a very short timescale and progress the deal to meet strict deadlines. Overall, as a buyer I was incredibly impressed with the professionalism, expertise, knowledge and not to forget the extra guidance/advice given to us even on our own sale in which was in the hands of another agent within the area. The less said the better, thank goodness I had Andrew Cowen to assist and be on hand for advise.
Having used almost every estate agent within the area I would definitely recommend Cowens as Number One!

Liam and his amazing team assisted my family in moving home and locating a new property. Throughout the difficult transaction and complex chain they always found the time for all clients involved even further down the chain where this should’ve been the other agents responsibility!!! Continuously going above and beyond to alleviate all the stress, making a difficult process a pleasure. This was due to the fact I knew it is within safe hands when any other agent involved within the area just did not seem to be motivated or resolving issues. Would highly recommend to anyone. Contacted Andrew Cowen about viewing a rental property. We viewed the property. All good. The place was prefect for us. When I tried to agree a tenancy I was disgusted with the way they looked down there nose and there attitude stereotyping people all because I was claiming universal credit. Even though the rent was getting paid 6 months up front. Found every excuse not to rent the property to us.

Moved into a flat through them and lots of things was wrong like drains leaking pipe behind toilet wich lead to rotting floorboards bad smells ect and always struggled to get hold of them when we did they kept saying they would pass it on and never heard back. Got so bad we moved out thank god. ( never call back when they say they will) we went through council and even environmental health visitor decided it was unsuitable for us to live in.

Staff is highly unprofessional. Doesn't even care for a viewing to rent an apartment. If at all an appointment is booked they doesn't keep the word. If asked the reason, shamelessly admit that they don't have any record for the appointment. Repeatedly doing the same drama.

I can't thank Hollie and her team at Andrew Cowen enough. I have just purchased my very first property, and unfortunately had some difficulties with solicitors and hurdles along the way. I have recently bought a house through Andrew Cowens, I feel they kept me informed of progress throughout unlike my solicitor and estate agent even when everything fell through for a month.
When I went to collect the keys I was presented with a card and bottle of wine which I felt was a nice touch

Been renting from Andrew Cowen for over a year now. Really impressed by the standard of service I received as my situation at the time (living 80+ miles away) meant the majority of correspondence was via phone and e-mail. Jo showed my family members the property and we sorted everything out whilst being miles apart which the ladies in the office (Lea and another Jo at the time) made very easy for me, I felt completely looked after and really appreciated the extra week they held the property for me. Everything was great, highly recommend the lettings team, wouldn't use anyone else.

Rented a flat was promised new boiler and new lino in kitchen. Boiler took 6 months to fit. An the lino still hasn't been done an it's been 14 months. Avoid like the plague robbing c*nts

I rented from this company for 1 year. Lea and the team where always there when I needed them. Whether I had a problem with the property, or when I started to struggle with my rent they quickly solved and dealt with the issues in a professional manner. Absolutely shocking behaviour! Sold a house vendor had agreed verbally to the sale and an email was sent confirming the sale. Then because the buyer was with an Online estate agent YOU go behind the vendors & buyers back and sell the house again (which was already sold) for a higher offer without the vendor knowing! Then you call the expected buyer out of the blue saying "sorry we've had a higher offer' .. how is that possible the house was already sold... then the question was asked 'abut the buyer 'does the vendor know?' Your response 'no'
Can't handle the online competition of such GREAT ESTATE agents like EMOOV , such snotty behaviour from your staff when they found out the buyer was with an online estate agent.. how their tone suddenly changed!
We will be coming in to see your Director and will be following this disgusting behaviour up! No wonder everyone is using online estate agents.

I got a one bed flat through andew cowen totally messed me about from start to finish. Showed me the flat in the dark with limited light, from what I could see it was a great flat but tgen when we got the keys it was in a state. They did not tell us about any of the chrewing gum marks on the carpets. Took them forever to sort tge carpets and taps out and it was always are folt. Then they where doing mantanance work on gge stare way and cut though the internent cable that wasnt there folt eaither.
Would never recommend to rent a property out with andrew cowen. Might be fairly cheep rent prices but is not worth it.
