We used Carter Jonas in Oxford, England to rent out our property and I was overall very satisfied with the service they provided. I didn´t have to do any chasing as things progressed nicely in a timely manner and they were very good at getting back to me with updates. Their rates were also much better than the other common letting agencies. The only small thing that can be improved is the delay between tenants paying the rent to Carter Jonas and the day it is received by the landlord, if that can be reduced it would further increase the satisfaction. But overall I would recommend Carter Jonas.... Read more

Our point of contact was Maddy, who was incredibly responsive and attentive throughout my tenancy. One instance that particularly impressed me was when our fridge broke down. Maddy promptly contacted the landlord and secured approval for a replacement since the fridge was beyond repair. Her prompt action ensured minimal disruption to our daily routine. So surprised to see so many 5 star reviews for Carter Jonas. Our experience with them was the complete opposite. We listed our property with them as they were a reputable company with raving reviews for sales as oppose to bad reviews for letting. Viewing appointments would be made by the office staff and the sales person would either be late, to the point where the prospective buyer came and gone, or not show up for the appointments. Giving excuses such as ‘I forgot’ or ‘I was busy at the office’! I was searching for a letting agent over summer when Jenna Bugler and a colleague, Tanya, visited to talk about the services provided by Carter Jonas. They were both friendly and patient and listened to my concerns and answered my questions about the services offered. I was new to this but they never made me feel like any of my questions were foolish. Following that initial meeting, Jenna was my main contact at Carter Jonas. Jenna has been exemplary in responding to my questions in a simple, clear and straightforward manner. She responded to all my questions (and there have been many), sometimes immediately and always within a day. This is impressive and I appreciate it very much. Jenna is professional and offered sound, sensible advice about bringing the property to a high standard by updating specific furnishings, or adding in new fixtures, etc. Her recommendations were sound with clear reasons and I was grateful for it. There were times when I needed advice and recommendations for tradespeople which Jenna helped me with. Once, I accidentally locked myself out of my flat, and I called Jenna to ask about a locksmith, and she helped me straight away and also followed up to check that I was okay. Although this is a business relationship with Carter Jonas, it is the people who make the difference. Jenna was extremely kind to me and went above and beyond her duty. While visiting one evening to drop off some newly cut keys, I mentioned that I was moving my belongings one box at a time which took endless hours. Without hesitation, Jenna offered to help me and so, for over an hour, after her working day, she helped me to load her car with boxes that would have taken me six hours to do on my own. What can one say? Thank you is not really enough. It was an immense help and I am extremely grateful to her. That is not part of the service but was exceptional and a testament to her character. For all of the above reasons, I haven’t looked back once, or thought twice, after choosing Carter Jonas. Thank you Jenna, for making this a very positive and smooth experience.... Read more

Tayna/Director from Carter Jonas Oxford lied to me prior to starting a AST. I have this in an email. The house historically had issues with cluster fly's when I asked about the dead zombie fly's after seeing about 100 dead fly's in the house pre signing an AST for 12 x months. She said: "the windows have just been closed in the house".& the house house been empty for months. I believed her. I have had maggots/hatching in my sons bed after, rats in the lounge coming up from gaps in the floor, bats, mice, no heat for 10 days. 1 x hob on to cook on. Cloth moths eating my clothes. The director Tayna and the property manager are now trying to get me to pay for the landlords yearly property maintenance jobs. The house has woodchip wallpaper form the 1970's peeling off the walls, tas that wont turn off because the threads have worn. I reported this and now they are trying to charge me for repairs, the walls are so damp in the bedrooms the curtains rails fell off the wall. Years of filler dodgy maintenance done, they are trying to charge me to get a DIY person in the put them up again! They are now trying to take my deposit off me for things I have not done. DO NOT SIGN THE INVENTORY if you move in, until you have to do your own inventory/against there's, they will only try to do the same to you. Photograph everything, test/turn on full power everything before you sign it. Cooking facilities, shower, taps, heating. Inside every cupboard, leave no stone unturned.Cleaning standard windows, curtains rails are secure. Just photograph everything put it in a PDF file, even the external garden areas. The are trying to charge me for leaves that have fallen on the ground to be cleared! After my AST ended.... Read more

A series of issues presented themselves during the (less than a) year that we rented a property managed by Carter Jonas Summertown. The first issue presented itself before we moved in, when we were asked to pay upfront more than had been agreed upon, which we resisted on the grounds of our initial agreement. Then we moved into the apartment to find it in a bad shape, which required more than a month of constant visits by repair men. To give you an example of how bad things were, drawers were broken, the heaters were not working, and half the apartment smelled of sewage, because of problematic drain pipes. And to top it all off, Carter Jonas tried to overcharge us for the professional cleaning that took place after we moved out. We tried to reason with them, but they wouldn’t accept anything other than the overinflated fee they were charging us with. So, despite not having photos to prove that the apartment was left in a much better state than that claimed, we took our case to arbitration, where it was deemed that the charges were indeed overinflated and needed to be significantly decreased. So word of caution to all prospective tenants, make sure you take detailed photographs when you move out, just in case...... Read more

I have been meaning to write a review for a while now. Last summer my husband and I were looking for a place to let for the year. We looked at properties advertised by several letting offices in the Summertown area. We decided to walk into Carter Jonas' Summertown office to see if any of their properties fit what we were looking for. To put it simply, we were treated horribly. The lady who greeted us acted as if we were criminals. We told her we were looking for a place to let and wanted to see what properties they had, and she went back to her desk area and began whispering with a colleague of hers and eyeing us (we were sitting on the couches at the entrance.) She then approached us with a bothered look on her face, and asked us if we'd been into their office earlier that day. We said no. She insisted we had been. My husband and I were thoroughly confused, and we explained to her that this was our first time coming into this office (ever). She then insisted that we had been in earlier and were seen by her colleague, another lady working at the office. At this point we were very much put off, and we were more put off when she challenged us by asking if we thought her colleague was lying. I said no she must've been mistaken. Never at this point did her colleague approach us or try to clear up whatever misunderstanding occurred. We carefully asked if she would show us any properties, and she pulled out a few print outs of properties but was very obviously not interested in renting out to us. My husband and I walked out of the office very much put off, and I felt humiliated and thoroughly confused. This is not only the worst letting agency in terms of services provided, but they are willing to cheat to steal your money, starting with Anton Frost. They are unresponsive, rude, unhelpful. When the tenancy ended they claimed crazy amount of money for redecorating and cleaning, that was completely unjustified. After we disputed the claim with a judge, they provided photographs of the house that were up to three years old (!!!) as proof. They even provided photos of signs on the wall, and a receipt (at this point, fake) for painting the very same walls. Too bad the date on the signed wall photos was few days after the supposed repainting had happened! Avoid like plague.... Read more

Note of caution to Tenants – Avoid at all cost! - Only gave 1 star because I couldn’t give lower. Carter Jonas are a 1 sided estate agent that only represent the Owners and where Tenants are a commodity. They optimise the law in the owners favour and will extract the maximum money out of you while giving you the most 1 sided tenancy agreement possible. Basically act as the owners “muscle”. I wish Google allowed zero stars because this is what this agency deserves. Very slow with everything (the only exception is collecting money from you!), constantly passing emails to various members of staff, and in the end no one gives a clear answer to your question. When things get tight because they have procrastinated so much, of course it is the tenant's fault, and you end up with no flat and no reimbursement for the fee that you have paid. Additionally, they seem to charge tenants for all sorts of things, and are very unhelpful when it comes to explaining the contract. Definitely would not recommend. PS All the five star reviews here seem to have been written around the same time and are quite similar in style. Suspicious, isn't it?... Read more

We sold a property with the professional help of Carter Jonas and the sale was completed in December 2014. From our initial meeting with Isabella, we knew we were in safe and capable hands and from the moment we instructed the sale, the whole team were fantastic from start to finish. The photographer took care and attention to get the best pics, Julianna from the team was constructive with presenting the property in its best light with many attributes and Isabella was committed to each and every house viewing. Her guide price was the price we achieved and we were of course, very pleased. The sale did fall through (unexpectedly) at one stage of the game, due to the purchaser not being able to get the lending they required, however as soon as this became apparent, the property was actively remarketed immediately and a second offer (for more) was secured within a day or two. The property sales team (particularly Isabella who managed our sale) and the property lettings team gave considerable time to visiting our property and another property that we are hoping to buy soon and gave us advise on property valuations and rental values to enable us to help make some decisions.
