At the beginning of my tenancy, the agency seemed very professional and attentive, but unfortunately, my experience changed towards the end. It became clear that they were more focused on representing the landlord’s interests.
If you are a landlord, I’m sure they will do a great job for you. However, as a tenant, I cannot say I had the best experience. My advice to future tenants is to document everything. After every phone call or interaction, follow up with an email summarizing the conversation. Trust me, you’ll need that paper trail.

Gary should consider a job that isn’t customer centric.
My partner called in enquiring about a property this agency advertised. Gary was condescending throughout the conversation and made inappropriate remarks when my partner wasn’t able to provide him information in regard to MY self-employment books over the phone. Paraphrasing because we didn’t have the foresight to record the call ourselves for a direct quote: “who is this person because presumably if it was your partner you would know.”
Gary, it’s none of your business what I information I share with my partner in regard to the intricacies of my self-employment. If this is how you speak to customers who are trying to bring new business to you I dread to think how you communicate with those who you already got a contract with.
Other agents might be more pleasant to work with but we will think twice before trying this agency again.

Gary Heppel was very helpful, friendly and informative,
My only concern is that he tended to be too optimistic - he overestimated the price we would get and the amount of interest there might be, and underestimated how quickly the sale would be completed, but I guess that is not uncommon in this business,
I would be happy to go to him again if the need arose.

Securing the tenancy was a breeze, Liza did a great job showing me the property and sorting everything out. Communication throughout the year was also good. However, the check-out process wasn't so great. The inventory used for my tenancy used old photos and so did not match the condition of the flat as I received it. I made comments, but missed items, so was charged for the previous tenant's damage. Just a "beware", be present at the check-in if possible, or request a redo if the photos don't match the property.

THEY say moving homes or buying a house is one of life’s big stresses to face. Well I don’t know who THEY are but I found a home and thought nothing of it until I unpacked, got cosy and THEN thought I must be missing something? Standing orders? Paper stuffs? Other adultings? I must of missed something to be here so cosy at home?
If your looking for a property! do yourself a favour and make your life easier! All the staff provide an outstandingly professional and polite service that gives estate agents a better outlook and taken from a man who’s sold property, land, stock, fine wine… estate agents do have a bad reputation. The line draws here and at this branch in my opinion.
The ginger lemonade gave me a refreshing reminder. What a close!

First of all, we are grateful to Gary that we found a house. Because we have a cat, it is nearly impossible for us to find a house but unlike other agents, Gary tried to find a house for us. The viewing of the house was well planned. After we had the agreement, Emma was the person who was responsible for the move in. Emma was quick to reply to our emails. She answered all of our questions because we came from a different country and we are not sure about the letting system in the UK. To be objective, the only thing we can say that when we asked a question about the short-term let, we had quick and somewhat angry answers from Gary and Emma. But I guess they misunderstood us and informed us afterwards. Overall, we had a great service. Thanks a lot for the warmth and welcoming service.

I have rented out my property via Martin and Co. Gary has done an amazing job and has been extremely helpful and responsive during the whole process. I approached the agency just before Christmas and Gary got back to me rightway, came to look at the property, went over terms and conditions with me and took the pictures. The advert was up before Christmas and the viewings took place before New Year. Martin and Co team have been very efficient with paperwork and all the checks and the new tenant moved in in early January. The whole process of getting a tenant in was less than 3 weeks and that was during Christmas and New Years! It was extremely efficient and I would recommend Marting and Co to anyone who is looking to rent out their property.

An incompetent bunch and liars ! Poor customer service, incorrect inventory, mouldy rooms, filthy kitchen equipment, to name a few. The property had a allocated parking but the agency forgot to tell us we need a permit, so when I was handed a ticket, they took no responsibility and instead told me I should have reminded them ! They expected me to remind them to do their job!?
At the time of exit, there was absolutely no communication and it lead to a very stressful move, that could have been avoided!
I am not for leaving negative reviews, but I think a kabab shop has better customer service than this establishment. In the current economy, we are left with little options but to work with such outfits. Just make sure you do a thorough check while dealing with this agency.

For Landlords I am sure they are great. If you are a tenant, they are the poster child of letting agents. My advice is document, document, document and document properly. After every phone call, write up an email to them, you'll need it.
Don't waive anything in the inventory. Assume, that they will use anything you say, or don't object to, against you.
In my case they used about 3 year old pictures in the inventory document and because I had an agreement with the previous tenants that they keep some furniture there, I waived it as a convenience. A year later, when I was moving out, they were not even open for discussion "you signed the inventory, that was the state". It went to DPS arbitrage for deposit. Their claim was ~640 pounds, thanks to videos and other evidence the end amount was ~130 pounds.
One maintenance issue required the contractor to come 3 times. After a leaking boiler was reporter, the contractor says it was a goner because of rust (I was on my way out, so I did not care anymore). I got a message from the next tenant about 3 months later, if I knew anything about the boiler, as they did not have hot water for a week. Martin&Co says, that hot water is not an urgent matter....in November. I am sure they will object to this review, if interested, I can share the DPS resolution and entire email conversations.

I've now used Martins three times to find a tenant for one room in a shared house. Each time they have worked hard to find and onboard nice, reliable people for me. Kelly was great throughout my selling process. She was very focused on getting my property sold and would always communicate and feedback to me after each viewing.
Also, Martin and Co only charge you a fee for the percentage you're selling whereas every other estate agent wanted to charge me the full value fee regardless if it was shared ownership or not.
From start the finish the response and communication was brilliant, I would highly recommend Kelly and Martin and Co for selling your shared ownership property.

They did an amazing job at selling my house. They provided a personal service as they were always on hand to answer any questions I may have had.
They achieved the full asking price for my property, even though they priced it higher than the ‘big name’ estate agents, which lead to 4 offers.
The photographs of my house (that they took) were of high, professional quality. I would highly recommend using them to sell your house.

For tenants: You have to be really careful with this company. They sometimes use very old good looking photos for the check in inventory while they would do really careful checkout to make sure they take every penny out of you.

We marketed our house for renting through Martins. Kelly Virgo managed the process and was excellent in everything. There were no surprises and the whole process ran very smoothly from initial meetings with Kelly through to the tenants moving in. Overall Martins gave an excellent service which I highly recommend. They were very easy to communicate with and always returned calls. Tenants were found within 7 days and the costs were very competitive.

We worked with Kelly Virgo while selling our house and she was great. She was friendly and professional but most importantly she was really easy to get hold of. Even if she wasn't in when we called she would get back to us as soon as possible. Having someone we could get in touch with easily made the whole experience a lot easier as we never felt out of the loop. She drummed up a lot of interest for our property which was great. We were also marketing it with another agent but Kelly and Martins got us at least three times as many viewings as the other agents and it was through them we sold the property.
Would recommend working with Martins as we also used them as a lettings agent for our property and again found them very professional and responsive.

The best letting & estate agents in Abingdon.. Kelly was very proactive in helping me with my property search, presented the best options she had and followed up with me on further viewings at the same time was definitely not too much in your face either which is great. I even was offered a pickup for a viewing as I was struggling without a vehicle which was going out of the way to ensure amazing customer service! 5 Stars to them and highly recommended! Would definitely use their services again!

I’ve been meaning to put a review on here for for quite sometime & feel bad that I haven’t done so, so firstly I’d like to apologise to Martin&Co.
So firstly, I’d like to thank Martin&Co for everything they done for me. I’d recently come out of a relationship with 2 young children & was desperate to find a family home for us all. I was extremely vulnerable & wanted the best place with a tight budget.
Kelly found a beautiful home for me, she done everything she could to negotiate the best deal & her manager Sharon also helped with this, then in a very short time I managed to move out of a very unhappy situation & started a new tenancy a home that felt like a home.
They went above and beyond and I highly recommend them to everyone . Well done to all all the team and thank you again x

I am a lone parent working part time, and I can say that at the beginning, when I was trying to rent, most of the agencies were rude with me, they refused even to show me the properties because I wasn't a "full time worker". But the staff of this agency were always professional, kind and very helpful with me, so, thanks to them, now I am a very happy tenant living in Abingdon since last year. I love Abingdon!

I rented a property through these guys not very nice experience bathroom had leak which we advised them of took several weeks to get repaired then to have the panel put back on the bath took another 3 or 4 months which made it dangerous for my 5yr old son we also had 1 window in the kitchen which never opened which we continuously told them about via email nothing was done to resolve this in the whole year we stayed there for every time we were told they were waiting for the owner to authorise the work we don't know the owner we know Martin and Co that s who we were paying rent to and now to get my deposit back seems to be a problem as they are wanting to charge me for repairs to a vacuum that was already damaged and we never once used it which we have on our inventory they seem to be such a rip off will never use agaiñ

I can't even give this company 1 star. The worst Estate Agent i have ever dealt with. The staff are rude and the when i had a issue i asked to speak with the director who deliberately avoided my call more than once and got one of her staff to tell me, i needed to email her. Which i did and never got a reply. The customer service level is abysmal and the business is run very poorly. End up always speaking to different people as the same person is never available twice or left the company and when you do need to speak with someone in person the office is shut! Especially the one in Didcot - says ' Mon-Sat 9:00-5:30pm well i can tell you it's defiantly NOT it's more of a part time estate agency if you ask me.
If your a landlord like me i would strongly advise using someone else plenty more decent agencies out there which do a fine job compared to this joke.

Been renting through M&Co for a year now and there have been positives and negatives. The start of the process; arranging a viewing, signing the contract and providing documents was quite poor. It seemed like there was a lack of communication internally. I think really this just came down to a few staff, rather than the company as a whole. I believe said staff are no longer there.
However, ever since that they have been great. They've been informative and up-front throughout the tenancy, giving us adequate notice of inspections and works. Any problems we've had have been dealt with within a fair timescale.
They also made up for the initial signing confusion by providing a smooth renewal process, again being up-front about fees and processes.
Now entering into the second year in the same property and are hoping for much of the same service.
4 stars due to those initial hiccups, otherwise potentially could have made a 5!

Lettings- Generally quite good. To start with was very good, walked into the estate agents and within 30 minutes we had 2 viewings arranged and they had all our details they needed. When we viewed the house we eventually went for, the estate agent was 5 minutes late but that's not the worst thing-it happens. During the viewing she was very informative and answered our questions, and the next day we contacted them saying we wanted it and everything was pretty smooth in that respect. The things which has stopped them getting 5 stars is that on a couple of occasions we were asked to provide documents/details which we had already provided so there was some lack of communication among themselves. Also when we paid the deposit the person seeing to us again asked for details which had already been provided and also didn't know how to print the receipt for the deposit (a bit odd). But moving in day was fine, they had keys ready and the estate agent was at the house on time to show us round and test smoke alarms and explain the itinerary. At no point have there been any surprise costs or unexpected things happen, and any dates which were agreed for viewings/paying deposit/moving in were always kept to. And since moving in, communication with the property manager has been very good too.

After moving to UK from US we had our hearts set on living in Buckinghamshire so when a property came up which ticked all of our boxes we were desperate to see it.
I emailed Martin & Co at rentals in UK numerous times prior to seeing the property and their communication was fantastic. They were never frustrated by my many questions and emailed back right away.
When we saw (and loved) the property, we applied that night, a process which was quick and easy. Again, Martin & Co were there over email helping us through the process.
And we were fully moved in, only two days after submitting our application. This is by far our easiest move, which says something after living in over 8 rentals in the US!

Don't have a property with Martins am fortunately enough to own my own home, however the flat above me is let and managed by Martins, this property has leaked into mine causing damage to my ceiling. despite repeatedly contacting Martins nothing had been done until I caught one of the 'staff' showing around a new tenant, I was assured that it would be dealt with sure enough someone turned up at my door and decided it could be painted over!! having explained that this was not acceptable the man was going to call me back........ this never happened, turned up at my door asking to be allowed in to do the work that has not been agreed to. I am not a tenant and yet they treat me with the same contempt as they seem to there tenants.

Having been both a tenant and a landlord for the last 13 years I have never worked with a such an incompetent, unprofessional and rude establishment. Having rented a property from them for 5 years, they tried charging extortionate fees at every corner. They repeatedly showed up at the property for inspections without any prior notice. The worst and most disgusting behavior of all was when they put the property on the market and started showing tenants round without permission whilst I was on holiday despite me stating in writing that I wanted to continue the tenancy. On vacation, the property was left in a good condition however tried charging me for every little mark on the wall and took over 75% of the deposit which is currently being disputed. They are also being reported to the property ombudsman for their unprofessional and unlawful behavior. It seems other customers have a similar view and have doubt their business will not last the distance. Whether you are a tenant or a landlord I would avoid them at all costs unless you want to be overcharged for a substandard service.

I tried to help a friend who was struggling to secure heating for his home to which he had recently taken his 6 day old baby, in December. Sharon Self was uncooperative, rude and incredibly unprofessional. Because she didn't like me getting involved, just posted a negative comment on my personal company account. She has refused to take this down hence my negative review of her conduct. I was just trying to help a friend with a 6 day old people - most of us would do the same.

As a previous tenant of two Martin & Co Abingdon managed properties, I can confirm that I have also felt the 'cold finger of injustice' when trying to deal with Martin & Co.
I'm sure that Shaun and his team were not always trying to belittle us as tenants, although it often seemed like it, but would instead panic when confronted with matters that they are not seemingly qualified to deal with. This would often manifest itself in their predictable knee-jerk reaction; whereby Shaun and his loyal band of amateurs, would immediately absolve themselves of any need to react or plead ignorance of any previously reported problems.
This reaction is somewhat understandable though; In that moment i’m sure i might also be snippy and rude if i was panicking and fundamentally bad at my job.
A good example of this kind of characteristically unprofessional reaction is demonstrated in the attached image. The attached image shows a Facebook post that Martin & Co Abingdon sent to me insinuating that i am some kind of criminal. I not been approached about any outstanding rent and am extremely offended by the insinuation and attempted intimidation that this is a police matter. They have now removed the comment from their social media but are yet to apologise. I assume this means that they regret this hasty move but are not willing to accept the consequences of their mistake.
Passing the buck has become somewhat their raison d'être, and resultantly, Martin & Co Abingdon end up dragging their heels on matters of Property Management. One such instance left us waiting days for Martin & Co to organise fixing a Carbon Monoxide leak in one of our bedrooms. Not only did this leave the property without heating for days over Winter, forcing many of us to leave the property at our own expense, but also had potentially lethal consequences.
Thankfully, none of us died and we were all able to continue paying Martin & Co for a seemingly imaginary service.
If potential tenants would like any evidence of these problems then i have all correspondences and issues still recorded and will be happy to share with them with you, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch. These records include the legal case that we were forced to put together, to which we were awarded damages and were kind enough to settle out of court.
Martin & Co Abingdon will attempt to make the next year of your life difficult and frustrating and i wish you every luck if you take the risk and assume that it won’t be that bad.

Started my journey of moving out of home and letting a property through Martin and co. They have been helpful from start to finish with quick replies especially by email. I have found and let all three properties I have lived in through them and they have not been more helpful.
Kelly is very pro-active at making sure that I know when new properties became available that would be of interest to me and is always happy to answer any questions I have.
Shaun has been great at organising people to come out and look at my boiler as it was acting up and arranging for a new fridge when our old one was broken.
Great team and will continue to let through them and Martin co.

Martin & Co Abingdon are the managing agents for a property I've recently moved into in Oxford. I have been in contact with Emma and Shaun who work at the agency and have overall been rude, uncommunicative and incompetent. They were unable to follow up on simple requests such as sending a contract to be signed, and I had to repeatedly ring and email to remind them to get this done in time for the start of my tenancy.
When asking questions Emma /Shaun would respond with short, rude answers that did not give context or reasoning. Some of their email communication even appears to be malicious with intent to cause issues between new housemates.
They have been obstructive and unhelpful. It has been extremely unpleasant to deal with them,
