They're your best friends during the tenancy application.
Once you've signed and paid your deposit they'll ignore your emails and promise to call you back but never will.
It's been 6 weeks that I've been requesting repairs including a broken window that doesn't close, wardrobe doors that are fully detached, broken blinds, marks and holes in the walls.. the list goes on.
These are all since the first day I moved in.
You can just tell they're saying everything you want to hear over the phone just to end the conversation, then you never hear back.
They just don't care passed signing your agreement, take my word.

I would like to share my review following persistent solicitations for payment over the past week. An email, indicating a reduction in rent agreed upon with my landlord, was transmitted to the agency, and subsequently, a confirmation was sent to my email. However, unexpectedly, a month later, Abingdon Chancellors commenced sending emails and making phone calls, asserting that my rent had not been paid in full and that I owed them money.
Despite my attempts to address the issue by forwarding the email containing the rent reduction, the problem persisted. Various individuals from the agency continued to contact me for several days, insisting that my rent was overdue, despite my explanations.
The situation at this branch is chaotic, with a lack of knowledge evident among the staff. Eventually, after another phone call, I was redirected to the head office, where the issue was resolved, albeit without any apologies until I explicitly mentioned my intention to file an official complaint.
It is unfair to subject individuals to persistent demands for payment when they are not in breach of their obligations.

Additionally, I would like to highlight that a significant portion of the reviews on Google is submitted by new customers who were pressured by the branch to provide a 5-star rating. This practice raises concerns about the authenticity and reliability of the reviews, as it may not accurately reflect the overall satisfaction of the clientele.

I've sent request forms from Rightmove and called the Abingdon, Chesham and Reading offices about 10 times over the past week to enquire about two different properties for rent. I've been passed from one office to another and back again multiple times, had 4 people take my details down to call me back and never heard from anyone. How can you make 10 phone calls and not even discuss anything with anyone?! God knows how many people give up trying to speak to someone, I certainly have. Avoid and go with another estate agent.

We chose Chancellors because we had Lisa (the manager at Abingdon) visit us regarding the prospective sale of our house in the past, we found her not only very professional but had an effervescent enthusiasm about the service she would provide. When it came to selling our plot of land we obviously felt she would be the right person to deal with the sale. As it turned out she initially engaged the services of her associate Neil Jones as this was his area of expertise, he did the exploratory work giving Lisa the framework on which to take it to market. From then on Lisa's work was exemplary in the way she dealt with it subsequently achieving an excellent result. We cannot recommend Chancellors' Abingdon highly enough and would not hesitate to use them again should the need arise.

We are currently mid sale and buy which is uber-stressful, but Tom Baker has been brilliant throughout. Such a sparky personality, and really on the ball. He's keeping us sane at the moment!
He replies extremely quickly to emails and phone calls, is very organised, gives honest advice when we ask him, and has a great sense of fun and humour. I can't imagine doing what we're currently doing if Tom had been a different sort of person.
I'm pretty certain we're stressing him out bigtime, but all credit to him, he never shows it. Thoroughly recommend Tom to all!

I phoned up chancellor's this morning and spoke to a guy called Tom baker he was very very helpful,, kind,, compassionate and understanding of my children's needs especially my disabled daughter's he was very friendly and polite and gave very good advice and has been the most helpful person I have spoken to since I have been looking for propertys.. he is a very good employee to have and a massive credit to cancellors..
I would strongly advise anyone that is looking to buy property to contact chancellor's in Abingdon and ask for Tom baker..

They said "no house starting with a £3 is actually available"??? Apparently they do this to "take details in case the sale falls though" why not just put them as STC then? A lot of my time have been wasted. All properties listed on Rightmove and Zoopla, I enquired about, turned out not being on sale. The stuff is helpless, sounded like they have no clue what they are doing. Chancellors make Rightmove and Zoopla useless. Very disappointing experience.

Um, pot, kettle, black? Honestly, what a total jobsworth -- did he have nothing better to do? Crack on Chancellors Abingdon, you're doing a great job. We had an incredibly positive experience with Chancellors when we sold our house through them a little while ago, and they've responded extremely professionally to the frankly ludicrous claims here. Any person with a shred of common sense will see these 'John Doe' reviews here for what they actually are.

So a PINAC reporter was recording this agents shop from a public foot path to high light how estate agencies breach GDPR on a daily basis by having sensitive customer information on display with pc’s facing out toward the public, and rather than discuss the situation immediately get defensive bordering on aggressive toward the reporter filming, and rather than listen to what he had to say, decide to cut him off and walk back in contacting the police, thinking they will remove his rights, anyway that didn’t work so Chancellors of Abingdon get 1 star for poor public courtesy, communication skills and of course for remaining to breach data protection. They then decided to lodge a baseless complaint on YouTube when clearly their in the wrong, hopefully fellow auditors will visit them more frequently until they do decide to resolve the matter.
Quite easily resolvable, get some privacy guards between the pc’s and shop fronts guys.

Given the number of data breaches they should immediately take steps to turn their monitors to face away from the street or install privacy filters.

Overall quite a decent experience. We worked with Holly and she was really helpful in getting onto enquiries and kept communications going well. her colleague Daniel also helped us out quite a bit. I would say the post selling team in bracknell needs some work to improve their service and communications, having said that Holly and Daniel at the Abingdon branch were there to pick up and frustrations and chased up when we needed them too so they certainly went above and beyond and would certainly recommend working with them.

Daniel Freeman himself was great in branch and very easy to get hold of the whole time we were letting a property through Chancellors.
However, once the paperwork is signed you don't talk to the people in branch but to people in a centralised office and they are terrible. We got bounced between people who didn't know anything about our property, and that's if we got through at all. We often left messages and emailed and were ignored. But if we missed a call from them we were sure to get a snarky email about how "hard to contact" we were. We were repeatedly asked the same questions and got many calls trying to get us to buy through them once we'd sold out house no matter how many time we told them we weren't interested.
Chancellors also failed to organise any repairs on the house requested by the tenants and us, saying they needed to get a quote and then ghosting us. The tenants requested a simple gate fix in December that was never organised by Chancellors before they moved out in August, despite us constantly chasing them. Chancellors also took money from the rent without warning us or asking permission and it took weeks of calling them to get them to explain what this was for.
Its probably not the staff themselves that caused these problems but the system of having a centralised office of people who have to work on various areas and with various people without anyone getting to build a relationship or knowledge of the case.
We were letting our property through Chancellors and marketing it for sale through them at the same time. Some of the staff at Chancellors were rude about the other agent we were marketing the house with but the other agent got ten times the number of viewings Chancellors did and they were the ones who sold the house.
Basically the people in branch are great but get ready to never talk to them again once you sign anything. Terrible service that made everything much more stressful than it needed to be. Would avoid and not recommend to anyone.

I Know I can’t view the flat at the moment but surely some one must be monitoring emails and can answer a simple question, in the same way another estate agent in Abingdon did this morning?

I have never experienced anything like it. Little/no communication, what communication I did get was rude and condescending. They can talk the talk, but just wanted me to drop the price on my property however they did nothing to advertise for me - when I did ask them to update the description and photos, they refused and said ‘it won’t help, the market isn’t good’. Once my SIX MONTH contract ended, i sold my property in 6 days from starting with a new estate agent. I was constantly lied to and treated with no respect. Would not recommend Chancellors Abingdon branch.

Appalling (professional let) rental experience as the result of a catalogue of failings and total lack of responsibility by Chancellors for resolving tenant issues.
The day before the move-in date the new tenants were told that they wouldn't be able to move in as the house had failed the gas safety test. Chancellors then only conceded to let them move in on the original date if they agreed for the cooker to be disconnected until a new cooker was sourced. They were then left without any means to cook meals for 8 weeks until a new cooker finally arrived!
On moving in...
... The house was filthy and the garden was full of rubbish. It took the best part of a day to clean up sufficiently to start unpacking.
... Many cupboards, drawers and the garden were full of the previous tenant's belongings. It was left to the new tenants to pack these away until they were collected.
... One of the beds was propped on a block of wood and collapsed when touched. It took approximately 1 week for a replacement bed to be delivered.
... The Front door Yale lock was broken
There were a number of other irritating issues that took an unacceptable time to be fixed.
All of these issues should have been picked up and resolved by Chancellors before the new tenants moved in.

I've been really impressed by the professionalism of the teams I've interacted with at Chancellors. We had initially instructed an online estate agent to sell our property but, when that didn't work out, we contacted Chancellors.
From the very first meeting with Alex (Sales Manager) the difference between a high streetand an online estate agent were clear. The level of engagement and interest in selling our house couldn't have been higher. Holly from Alex's team handled viewings and enquiries really well and we were kept very well informed with a great level of communication throughout. We had viewings booked in almost immediately.
It's fair to say that most house sale transactions can experience some form of hiccup on the way and ours was no exception. What I hadn't realised was how supportive and helpful the sales and conveyancing teams at from Chancellors would be. Mahnoor was our point of contact and she kept us very well informed and really helped with the negotiation of completion dates etc.
I could be wrong but I don't think any other estate agent is offering quite that level of support and service. In any case, I would highly recommend the team at Abingdon's Chancellors office and certainly urge anyone to think twice before choosing an online estate agent - there's no way they can compete with the local knowledge and experience of a high street agent.
Lastly, I'd add a huge thank you to Alex, Holly, Jessica and Mahnoor - it's been great to work with them and I'm extremely thankful for their help.

Buying my first house was made very easy by Chancellors Abingdon. I was in touch with Alex every step of the way and he made the whole process smooth and without any complications. This was my 3rd remortgage and it was by far the easiest.
Alex from chancellors referred me to William a mortgage advisor and they did all the work. Talked me through my options and the best deal for me. Sent me through the paperwork and I didn’t have to lift a finger. All done over the phone and email. Excellent service will be doing the same in 2 years time ????????

I rent a property through them. They said they would use local traders and manage the property. Every time anything goes wrong, they ring me, then charge a huge call out fee, then get quotes that are ridiculously high, at least two or three times above the normal rate. Avoid.

House hunting is the most stressful experience and we were dreading finding somewhere new to rent however Daniel Freeman from Chancellor's gave us first class customer service. He always followed through on our requests and enquiries in a very timely fashion. For myself it was least stressful renting process I have ever encountered. This is by far the WORST company I have ever dealt with.
As a renter I have never owned the property I rent, but despite this I get multiple phone calls a week and emails asking telling me that my property is on the market and that I should sell it with them. I have NEVER owned the damn property. STOP CALLING AND EMAILING ME!
Stay well clear of this company, they will harass you for years to come.

NEVER LEAVE YOUR CONTACT NUMBER. Constant nuisance calls from the company. I have asked them 3 times via phone to remove me from their contact list, twice by email and an official complaint. I have eventually resorted to blocking their phone number on my phone.

Worst company I have ever rented through, neglected to inform you of changes to your tenancy and then try to penalise you for it! Didn't even have keys to our property so everything had to be organised through me (even things that no one needed to be there for) which included taking time off work.....what does a landlord pay you for??

Upon deciding to sell our property there were no shortages of estate agents in the local area. Chancellors wasn't on my radar, as I considered them to be one of the biggest estate agents and doubted they would give us and the property the attention we hoped for. However, having had a couple of estate agents visit, I thought I would give chancellors a call.
I was impressed from the moment they stepped through the door. The manager of the Abingdon branch gave us a run through of the service they offered. We particularly liked the fact that all the sales team would come round to review the property before it went on the market, and that time was set aside each week to have a catch up about the sale. On open day was quickly arranged, and the property was sold the same day.
Chancellors showed attentiveness throughout. We were assigned with a property manager (Michael Thomas) who went out of his way to chase the relevant parties when needed and give up to info on how things were going. Locally. Stuart Locke also provided us with updates and took care of anything we needed in relation to the sale.
I really can't recommend Chancellor enough. it was a seamless experienced from start to finish.

She was more helpful that I could have ever expected, often going way beyond her duty to help me find a property. Several times she contacted me as soon as the office opened with updates on potential properties, allowing me to plan my days most effectively. Elizabeth also found additional properties that fit my specification and really put a remarkable amount of effort into securing viewings at properties. I have nothing but praise for Chancellors Abingdon branch and our lettings negotiator Elizabeth Bissessar who turned our search for a rental property into a very positive experience, we had dealings with another agency at the same time who were nothing but unprofessional and rude and failed to secure us a property. I explained our situation to Elizabeth who completely understood and sympathised, she booked us viewings at very short notice and communicated with us at all stages of the process, I felt chancellors cut out a lot of the bureaucracy associated with modern day letting agencies, I honestly believe it was her professionalism and hard work that ensured that we got the rental property that we desired within a couple of days. I would recommend anyone who is finding the rental process daunting to get in touch with this branch who will help you find what your looking for, Elizabeth genuinely cares about you, this was very refreshing after being in touch with many agencies that made you feel bad for bothering them! I rarely write reviews unless I have had a particularly good or bad experience. In this instance, I am happy to say that, despite the general adverse press that estate agents can receive, I had a particularly good experience with the estate agents at Chancellors' Abingdon branch.
I was keen to purchase a flat and complete the purchase as soon as possible. I spotted a vacant flat for sale through Chancellors on a Friday lunchtime, and Stuart Locke rearranged his diary and stayed late that same evening in order to fit in a viewing to suit my working hours. The viewing went well, and I completed the purchase within two months, including arranging survey, mortgage and conveyancing.
Throughout the process, Chancellors (Shingirirai Hopkins) kept me informed of progress, and they have a centralised Specialist Sales Team that chase all parties (vendor, purchaser, solicitors, surveyors, mortgage company) and ring around everyone to keep the transaction on track.
There were occasional bumps in the road, but each time, both Stuart Locke and Daniel Bradley kept me informed, advised appropriately and we were able to navigate our way through potential obstacles (none of those potential obstacles were of Chancellors' making).
Whenever it was not possible to speak to either Daniel or Stuart immediately, the staff at the Abingdon branch were very polite and friendly, took my details, and I always received a call back.
The final crowning moment was on the day of completion, and I was stuck in traffic, keen to get my hands on the keys... Stuart stayed until 7pm at the branch to ensure handover of the keys.
In summary: a friendly professional service from all those at Chancellors without exception. The purchase was completed in a timely fashion. I was kept informed at all times. Chancellors stepped into the process when I needed them, and resolved them whilst keeping all parties happy. I could always get hold of the people I needed to.

What an exciting 4 weeks we had, looking for a 2 bedroom flat in a specific area of Abingdon!
We had 2 viewings per week -at least - with different agencies, including Chancellors and we must say we were really happy and satisfied with the service provided by them. Our negotiator, Stewart, did a great job keeping us well informed and up-to-date at all times. He did all this in a very friendly yet tactful manner. The agent we worked with, Elizabeth Bissessar was quite new to the business but her professionalism and attitude were that of an extremely experienced staff member. Despite being a business I got a feeling that it was more about finding the right property for us as a couple rather than just trying to let the property, as many other agents do. Positives were timely viewing, constant and rapid communication and responses to all my queries, and a willingness of the agency to help - all of this resulted in a smooth and fast moving process without any issues. It would be really useful to be provided with details of internet access and electric/other amenities available at properties during viewing so that these don't have to be queried later; however, all these queries were answered at a later date via email and done so with sufficient detail and responsiveness. Very professional agency with excellent communication from Hannah Mustoe and Robert Westell, my primary contacts.

I'd suggest visiting the branch before proceeding with this agent, the appearance is somewhat akin to sweatshop with crowded desks full of school leavers, something we didn't realize until the lack of experience became painfully evident during the 10 long and painful months it took them to sell our properties.
We're both experienced in house buying, selling, and letting, and thought we'd try Chancellors for a change after having generally worthwhile experience of most of the other agents in town.
What a mistake, communication was non-existent after offers had been accepted, to the point where we had to frequently liaise directly with buyers and other agents ourselves to bring sales to point of exchange. We were even asked if we'd mind showing a buyer round ourselves on one of the properties!! Buyers weren't suitably vetted which resulted in a time-waster successfully getting through which resulted in unnecessary cost and delay.
With so many better agents in the town I can see absolutely no reason to recommend. We will certainly be using grown-ups in the future.

I recently looked for a rental property in the city of Oxford and neighbouring areas. This was my first experience of UK estate agents (having previously rented from private owners or university landlords). Chancellors provided an excellent service and excellent quality of rental properties - which is not something I can say for other agencies in the area.
Robert Westell at Chancellors stands out as particularly helpful and dedicated. He arranged several viewings in Abingdon and was a passionate enthusiast of the area. I particularly commend him for following up with me after the viewings, and for contacting me a week later to ask how the house search was going and if I required further assistance from him. This is precisely the level of service that I had hoped for, but found lacking, in other agencies.
As it happens, we decided to move forward with a property advertised with another branch of Chancellors, in an area more convenient for my workplace (and have been very happy with the level of service and responsiveness of our contact there, Liam Jones).
Were we to look for a property in Abingdon in the future, we would begin our search by contacting Rob.

I was generally impressed by the professional attitudes of the agents that I interacted with ( Nicola Hurwood and Liam Jones ) and their eagerness to help me with any problems that I had. I wished to move into the property before the stated moving in date and Nicola managed to negotiate this with the landlord and the current tenant as it involved work being done on the property sooner than had been planned. Due to her diligence I got to move in when I wanted and the whole process went extremely smoothly. I was very happy with the service I received and would recommend the team at Chancellors in Abingdon to others looking to rent properties in the area.
