I have felt the Miles and Barr Team have been Amazing from the first meeting with Rueben Shanley - Tait who showed us around Properties who was polite and kind to then meeting, Maddie Cleary the Sale negotiator who was a power house of information and made us feel in safe hands. When our sale moved on to the next level I was sad to not be dealing with Maddie and then we were placed into the very capable hands of Melissa Scarsbrook the Sales Progressor. Melissa was amazing as soon as something was going to happen or changes as we were in a chain we would be informed. As a company Miles and Barr's Team Maddie and Melissa are outstanding in how they make you feel comfortable.

Reuben is probably the most helpful engaging estate agent I have ever met. Reuben facilitated several viewings for me and although I wasn’t able to find my perfect property he was always helpful and positive throughout. So far, a great sales experience from this Miles&Barr Branch. As a FTB I was fairly apprehensive and certainly new to the process of buying a house. Reuben showed us around the property twice, and instantly came across as friendly and likeable, making each viewing a breeze and quite a laugh too! Very professional and organised, he was instrumental in creating an atmosphere where we could enjoy viewing the house - and was certainly our favourite estate agent we had in our search of a property.
Once I had interest in the property I was sent over to Maddie, who quite literally saved the day in what is a very turbulent market at the moment. Very contactable and incredibly knowledgable, she was instrumental in getting an agreeable offer between myself and the vendor.
I don't usually write reviews so I hope this goes to show the good impression they have left with me and my family. All the best for the future guys!
PS: Just note their head office (not this branch), calls with ID checks and attempts to sign you up to the solictors and finanical brokers. Make sure the property is the one you want, the offer is accepted, and you have the finances ready to proceed as I don't believe these services refundable and they are (the head office - not the branch) eager to get you on board with these comission based products/services.

Hello I found some of the staff very pushy in that I was offered a place at 9am, I had messaged my landlord and was waiting for him to get back to me. I then got a call in a little while I explained I was just waiting for my landlord to confirm it was ok to move out three months early, to which he replied that their manger would be pushing them to go to the next person on the list by the afternoon I explained it wouldn’t be long. Just before 12 noon I rang to confirm I would take the property and pay the 5 week’s deposit and was told that they had already let it. At no time on the phone call earlier did he say that he was going ahead with someone else. I think this is very bad practice and found them very condescending in telling me that in future I should notify my landlord first. I was brought up to be courteous shame the same doesn’t apply here.

Miles & Barr lettings has been the worst ever experience, they have been appalling.
We opted for the fully managed service as we live far from the property, when repairs need to be done, we had to chase them for quotes tirelessly , resulting in most cases us having to find the trades to do the work, also inspections between tenants was in accurate, we have a situation where tenants have left rubbish and we have had to foot the bills to have it removed, as it was not followed through on, after final inspections, property gone missing from the inventory.
I have just spent hours on the phone with utility companies as they were not informed of our address to forward the bills, once tenants had moved out.
The list goes on.
My advise is to carefully select your agent.

I contacted miles and Barr about a property I was interested in renting after a 25 min initial conversation where the lady took a lot of information from me we finally arranged a viewing due to my circumstances being in my first year of being self employed I knew I had to have a guarantor to protect the potential new landlord I even offered to pay a full tenancy upfront so I left them with a few questions to be answered I was fully assured the answers would be given to me at the viewing so I attended the viewing a week later spoke to the agent at the viewing about my questions and she had no idea that she was due to answer the questions I initially had but reassured me she would find my answers by the following day and credit where it is due she did have the required answers the next day which gave me confidence to proceed with the application process to obtain a tenancy so I completed the application to the landlord to see if they would accept me applying for a tenancy I also made the office aware that I needed a response within 2 weeks as I would have to serve notice at my current property by the following Friday I had heard nothing by the Thursday so I called them to see if any progress had been made I was told that they had not heard from the landlord but would chase them for me I sill had heard nothing by the following Monday so called again and was fed the same line I called again that afternoon again was told the same I was also told the office don’t appreciate being pestered and they would call me when they heard from the landlord on the Tuesday they called to inform me the landlord had declined my application due to their insurance stipulating the tenant needed to be in a paye roll to validate the insurance with my knowledge of insurance I made a counter offer where I offered to cover the cost of the change of insurance where a guarantor would be acceptable and could even pay a full tenancy upfront I was told they would put this offer to the landlord I had heard nothing by the Thursday knowing I needed to serve notice the following day if accepted I called that morning was fed the same line they had not heard from the landlord I called again that afternoon and got no answer so I called 3 times in a row still no answer I used a friends phone to call immediately after as I suspected they was ignoring my number and surprise surprise they answered this time I was told they still had not heard from the landlord but also that the landlord is not going to accept my offer anyway so should just give up and leave them alone I believe that they didn’t even bother to contact the landlord with my counteroffer because they got annoyed with me calling to chase them up as often as i did I have since seen 5 other properties that would meet my needs but as soon as I see they are listed with miles and Barr I skip past them as the customer service is diabolical at best and clearly the estate agents are playing god with the potential tenants behind the back of the landlords I can’t express enough how much I would recommend potential tenants avoid using miles and Barr

Following the owners response over a month ago where they clearly state they will contact me directly I have still had no contact from them at all it looks like they have swept my review under the carpet, if I ever do hear from them I will update again with the outcome

now 8 months in to this “investigation “ that miles and Barr “claim” to be carrying out, where I have still not received any form of communication, either this is the most in-depth investigation carried out in history or there was never an investigation started, I can confidently claim the latter is most likely the case and the original owner response issued was to give the impression that miles and Barr have an active customer service team to deal with customer complaints unfortunately this appears to be a phantom aspect of miles and Barr. Should this investigation ever materialise I will update this review accordingly.

Awful awful service! Staff will ignore multiple important emails and reply to what they want to reply to, ignoring anything else in the messages they do reply to, lie to their customers on a daily basis, there are no communication skills and overall the company loves to commit to gross malpractice.
Avoid this company unless you want to pay for a service that doesn’t give you what you are paying for. Minus 5 stars

Joesph Libby was my first contact who was very helpful at the Dover Office not the Herne Bay office which this survey addressed me as using but without ticking the box I would be unable to complete this survey.
This sale took nearly 1 year to complete due to buyers trying before contracts were exchanged to offer a lower than agreed price and wasting everyone’s time & money.

I was initially impressed with the letting agent's enthusiasm for our custom, and first impressions were good. They had a well presented, contemporary office with a team of smart and professional looking people. The first impression was wrong.
We paid the "holding deposit" for the property to secure it's lease to us and was told that although our home insurance would be paying the rent (we had to move out of our owned property for building work to commence), we would need to pay the holding deposit, that would be paid back directly to us once the security deposit was paid.
Upon payment of the security deposit, I had to battle with Intire to pay our holding deposit back to us because company policy was to deduct this from the first rental payment. This was a clear contradiction of the reassurance of the member of staff we discussed this with initially. Anyway, after an arduous battle, I managed to get my holding deposit back after being made to feel like a trouble causer and a problem customer.
Upon moving into the house that looked as though it hadn't seen a clean since the mid '90's, We promptly bleached, cleaned and scrubbed every surface to make it hygienic and functional.
After various other battles with the agents over little things, our lease was up and it was time to move out. Again, we bleached, cleaned and tidied the whole house to a much higher standard than when we first arrived. Upon inspection by the agents, they identified a number of leaves on the ground in the back garden. (of course there were, it was January 13th and for the last month or two, we had seen nothing but torrential rain and wind!). The landlord said that this would need to be cleared and they would get a quote for it. The garden was roughly 5 metres by 5 metres and consisted of a flagstone path and a pebbled area.
The initial quote was for £145! I offered to clear the leaves myself and did this on the Saturday morning. Again, the wind and rain meant that the ground was soaked. I collected the leaves from all the flagged area and the majority from the pebbled area however, removing the last of the leaves from the pebbled area would have resulted in the pebbles being taken with the leaves due to the excess water adherence. This was explained to the letting agents however, this was quickly disregarded and I am now currently battling with the landlord over the £50 they are trying to deduct from the security deposit that they claim to have paid to a gardener for leaf collection. I only hope that the next tenant has more control over the weather systems in the UK than I do otherwise they too will be in an outrageous position when they come to collect their security deposit.
I feel as though we have been treated like nothing more than petty criminals during our rental experience with Intire and would actively discourage anyone from using them in future.

I'm not one for complaints specifically or indeed reviews in general but felt in this situation I'd be remiss not to post this publicly.
I'm looking to move down from London and wqs quite charmed by the Herne Bay area. Last week I visited the Herne Bay branch of Miles & Barr as part of a recce of the area.
When I entered the staff were busy so I waited patiently by the front door. Staff members finished up one by one but, for whatever reason, did not catch my eye or engage. Fine - it happens - not the best service but potentially they had something important to note or capture before greeting a potential client.
The straw that broke the camel's back was when not a customer who came in after me was seen first. Initially I thought it an error - until it happened again!
Mortified, I left. Quite upset.
Again, I like to think of myself not as one who complains or whinges. But in this case I feel it's necessary so that management/the corporate office are aware.
In the meantime I've taken my business elsewhere. I genuinely hope you can do better.

This firm are simply incapable of returning your calls and when I did eventually manage to speak to someone with regards to a viewing, I was told that it was 'government policy' to speak to an agent's mortgage advisor before allowing a viewing. !? When challenged on this claim, they then stated it was in fact their company policy to speak to their in office 'Independent ' mortgage advisor before they would allow me to arrange a viewing. I explained my mortgage was in place and I had no wish to speak to them, but they insisted or would refuse the viewing !? Not just terrible customer service for prospective buyers, but not ideal for the seller either. I would avoid at all costs.

Dreadful. Poor communication, confused and erroneous messages and a nightmare to get a response to emails. I have asked for my details to be deleted from their system 5 times under the General Data Protection Regulation and they have ignored all my requests. In addition, the standard of literacy is laughable. One worker told me she had spoken to my solicitor, quoting 'him'; my solicitor was female and she denied having had any contact with the worker or anyone else from her office. To be avoided.

I went to Miles and Barr in a bit of a pickle. I needed to move quickly but have never rented before. I had dealt with other local estate agents and have practically been laughed out of the office as a single, part time working mum.
By the time I got to miles and Barr Herne bay I was deflated and ready to give up. Then I met shelly.
Shelly talked to me as a human. She listened to my story And WANTED to help me. I wasn’t going to be the easiest client and needed ALOT of help. Help with things that were beyond her job title. But she had patience with me and pointed me to the correct authorities which made a move possible!! She rang and checked in on the progress of applications and checked in me.
She emailed to make sure I was ok and give words of advice and comfort. When I met her i felt like I was meeting a friend. The company as a whole were helpful. Understanding, responsive and a pleasure to deal with for a first time renter.

To Miles and Barr,
You have mentioned in your comment that you had regular contact with me. To clear this, we, as tenants, are supposed to have a property manager. In my case, is Lucy. I haven’t spoken with Lucy at all since the incident happened. She hasn’t called me or emailed me. Even until today. Melanie was the only person I spoke to on the day, she did in fact called me the day of the incident and I did spoke to her at the agency. But after that I haven’t hear from her either (I do understand that though, as she works in sales). The other person I have spoken to, is Julian, the lettings director, but so far, he has not been able to arrange a meeting with the landlord, as either he’s not available, either the landlord isn’t, when I am free.
Also, the day the incident happened, Julian came to see the damages with me and with the fireman and the person who did the fire report. The landlord was downstairs, and he wouldn’t even come upstairs to even apologize! As like the fire report states, the fire wasn’t caused by me, but by a faulty electrical system that was in the loft, and also, just to clarify, the landlord has stored many combustible things near that electrical system, that I wasn’t even aware of! Very dangerous and also illegal, as the HHSRS from 2004 states: “Making sure that none hazards near areas where fires may start. For example (…) combustible objects are not stored near boilers or fuse boxes”.
You also mentioned on your reply that you will (or the landlord’s insurance) arrange compensation for temporary accommodation… well… it has been two weeks and I haven’t had any confirmation to this, no emails, letters, specifying a settle amount. This is starting to be sorted as I have called the office to complaint about it, so Julian called me back about it a couple of hours ago and he said he will keep me updated with this. But so far, at this stage, 2 weeks after the incident, no progress have been made.
Thirdly, you have mentioned that you are helping me to find temporary accommodation? I would like to know what makes you think that, as no one apart from Julian has called me. I haven’t had any updates regarding accommodation, and he’s well aware that I have been on my friend’s sofa for a few days, and then I have keep moving from one friend’s house to another for already 2 weeks.
Fourth: you are mentioning the deposit and rent. I haven’t claimed that back yet because until everything else is sorted I am still your tenant and I want to keep it that way, and for that, you can’t give me the deposit yet. Because from the moment you give me back the deposit, I am not your tenant anymore, so, not responsibility.
You finally said that you have certainly managed the property professionally on behalf of the landlord, which I agree, but not for the tenant (who’s me) as I haven’t seen any progress on this urgent matter.
I hope you’ll find a solution soon, as I have been very patient on my side, but I would appreciate if we can get to some kind of agreement.

My elderly parents found their dream house. They put their bungalow up for sale with Miles and Barr, Herne Bay. They was pressured into signing the contract for the sale on the first visit, with the promise that they had potential buyers lined up already. The valuation consultant told them that he had helped get a reduced rate for marketing the property. This rate was over 2.2%. I consulted other agents within the local area who was shocked at how much they were charging. The valuations consultant returned the following day after I had showed my parents other agents fees. He agreed to lower the fee, however i later found out that no new contract had been drawn up and signed.
The property that my parents were buying was also marketed with Miles and Barr. They continually lied to them after the other property was sold to keep the sale of their current property.
During the sale process my parents invested heavily on their current property to make this more appealing to potential buyers. They had a limited amount of time to sell due to Miles and Barr not taking the property they was buying off of the market. Miles and Barr lied to them once the property they was buying had been sold and told them it was still on the market to ensure they keep their house on the market.
My brother contacted his local branch as he also felt my parents were being taken advantage of. This branch contacted the Herne Bay office to request they explain the situation to him. This came to no avail and no contact was made.
Miles and Barr did however manage to sell their current property at a considerably lower amount than was originally proposed, with the sale going through at the time of writing.
My parents just wanted an easy life, they do not like complaining, but i would like like to warn others who may potentially be in this position in the future.
I can only compare this company to a door to door salesman preying on the elderly.
