here is a reason you are told not to use Alexander's when renting in Aberystwyth and everyone single thing you hear is true. Although I appreciate a lot of the problems with a house when renting are down to the landlord, the way Alexander's treat the tenants especially students has become a very sad joke. It started off badly from the £100 reference fee on top of the £400 deposit to being told by Lynne when we moved into a dirty house with badly broken furniture, including beds and sofas, that the house was is â??perfect conditionâ? and they wouldn't be replaced or that it was our fault - after the 10 minutes after we collected the keys. Things only got worse from there; the way as tenants we were treated was appalling to put it nicely. Lynne lacks people skills and would often lie especially when it came to decorating, we were told to live with mould and damp as it must be our fault- that it was there when we moved in, we were also without a fridge for over a month as apparently it was fine despite being warmer than the kitchen. There was also a blatant lack of respect for us and they were condescending assuming as students we wouldn't know anything or care, this was shown in rude emails talking about us as if we weren't there on the phone or when we came in in person, this was made even clearer when it was time for viewings as Lynne decided it was acceptable to come for viewings outside the time we were told and would walk in and out of bedrooms and bathrooms with strangers without knocking even when she did knock if told '1 minute I'm changing' she still would walk in, exposing me in a state of undress to strangers, or she would allow the people viewing to touch and move our stuff around. By the end of the year I had given up fighting with them and just wanted to wash my hands with them. But then the charges out of the deposit came, the charges where ridiculous and were all poorly handled. However the one saving grace would be the way Layla and Sinead handled the deposit return and allowed us to discuss and air our grievances. However this is not to redeem themselves, I think Alexander's need to take a good look at there customer service especially Lynne

Alexanders seem to hate students. My year with them with a nightmare and not a week passed without them making me miserable. Do not sign for a house for them!!!

I am currently in a tenancy with this agency: the property has extensive damp, mould of various colours, multiple leaks, and no gate (following damage from storms). The estate agents, though friendly, have been thoroughly useless in arranging repairs, and have tried to blame us for multiple issues that should have been dealt with without question. I would tell any friend to avoid this agency if possible.

As buyers moving into the area from Hertfordshire, it was very reassuring to have Olivia from Alexanders there to put our many queries to the vendors, get back very quickly with answers and generally look after our interests. The personal touch extended as far as coming out to us herself when there were boiler problems on the first weekend, a truly warm and caring service extending long after we had settled in.
