They are very efficient, professional and yet very personal and understanding. Our current purchase is being handled by Verity Stuart-Thompson who has been so gentle yet very efficient in her advice and understanding of our needs. She always on top of everything and plans well ahead to give us a very efficient service, already thinking of renting etc. we don't have to think about anything. There definitely got to be some dirty connections within for buyers. So on two separate occasions for properties within Hatfield, my offer was declined for odd reason which eventually we found isn’t accurate. Offer was tendered for a property on grounds lane and I was told no vans was allowed on the property. However pls explain why all 3 sold have vans packed
Last month we had two properties on old French horn lane. I was told keys ain’t available yet but later to discover the two properties was sold to a developer
Question for you guys is Are you here for the people or to fill your boots and make property within Hatfield certain we for the developers only or those that are connected. I do hope this practice is investigated and eliminated as your reputation isn’t one fit for a 4.7 rating

Talk about a real credit to the company! They have made one of the most stressful experiences in life simple and streamlined.
Both are exceptional in every way from the very first phone call to olivia where nothing was too much trouble. Her friendly manner really made us feel at ease with the daunting process ahead. Add to that her knowledge, skills and advice as this really helped to guide us to the right properties for us. We cannot thank her enough for all her hard work and diligent professional approach.
Now on to Lisa Evans, she showed us round numerous properties within the companies portfolio. Having viewed properties with other estate agents, Lisa's knowledge about the property, local knowledge, her dedication to helping us and her friendly and approachable manner really set her apart from the others. No question was ever too difficult to answer and we never felt rushed looking around the properties as we had done with other estate agents. Highly Disappointed by Ashton's
As a tenant who has lived in the property for the past 7 years, I was utterly disappointed with the way Ashton's handled the situation when we were served with a Section 21 notice to vacate the property.
Firstly, we were good tenants who had never missed a rent payment, once we were served the section 21, the communication from them was severely lacking. We received the notice out of the blue, got a knock on the door and some lady handed this huge paperwork without any prior warning or discussion about our tenancy status. We then called Ashton's to confirm what was going on, they could only "apologise" stating that we were supposed to get a phone call days prior, It left us feeling blindsided.
Secondly, they showed little empathy or understanding of our situation, they literally turned into "souless robots" regurgitating off a script, e.g copying and pasting patronising links and statements regarding securing accomodation from the council, that was clearly not our issue as they knew it, the issue was the really bad rental market with little to no properties to rent in the area, we had kids in nearby schools etc..
Despite being loyal tenants for so many years, we felt like mere numbers to them, easily disposable without any consideration for the disruption this would cause to our lives, we were no longer of use to them after all.
On two occasions we contacted them to fix an issue with the property, this was ignored.
We also contacted them regarding a property they advertised for rent, this was ignored, probably because the move in date for that property fell outside of the 2 months deadline.
Moreover, the process of finding alternative accommodation was incredibly stressful, exacerbated by the tight deadline imposed by the Section 21 notice. We felt pressured to hastily find a new place to live, with limited time to explore our options and secure a suitable home for our family, Ashton's were extremely useless in assisting us, instead they proceeded with eviction proceedings, even when we asked for a bit more time and still paid our rent on time.
Overall, our experience with them during this challenging time was deeply disappointing. Their lack of transparency, empathy, and support throughout the process left a lasting negative impression. As tenants, we expected better treatment and respect from a professional estate agency, but sadly, our expectations were not met.
Thankfully we dealt with Martins and Co, who were a breath of fresh air with their empathy and professionalism, they secured a much better property in the area for us.
I would caution anyone considering renting through Ashton's, be prepared for potential issues with communication and tenant relations.
We will never deal with them again.

We decided to use Ashtons because they did very well selling a house for us 10 years ago. We had a positive experience then and achieved more sales price than other local agents advised.
This time we were looking to let our property and the Ashtons lettings agent Colin Hickey was helpful, easy to talk with and professional from the start. He told us what he thought could be achieved and then went on to deliver. My phone calls have never been ignored, there has never been a problem getting through or expressing our viewpoints. Indeed I cannot fault the service but only commend.

There are multiple people dealing with different projects at the same time with all communication going wrong. All the agents responses differ and are highly incompetent.

It's a shame the negative reviews are never responded to.
Ashtons letting team have been shocking - we're still disputing a matter that could have been dealt with 2 months ago.
As landlords we had strictly asked for no pets in the house and Ashtons confirmed this would be done. Unfortunately this was not adhered to and they are not accepting responsibility for allowing this to happen.
They promised they would take care of the transfer of bills but did nothing.
Please save your money and do not pay a management fee to this company! They have completely missold their service.

Every department loves to deflect but still ask for full payment even though they don't provide a full service. Very disappointed with the service provided by Ahstons. When they came to do their sales pitch it felt like a dream, however the reality turned out to be very different. They were very good at communicating with me when they needed something from me but when I needed something from them it was a different story, the valuation manager didn't even bother returning calls. It’s been a month since we moved into our house and finally have time to actually reflect on the process. We were absolutely thrilled with everyone at Ashtons. Thank you all so much for looking after us through both our sale and purchase. Tom made sure our flat was marketed in the right way and immediately got us interest and of course a sale! We believe it was Lisa who showed us around what turned out to be our dream home (which we’re still pinching ourselves we’re sat in now!) Lisa gave great knowledge of all things conservation area and even produced a tape measure when we left ours at home! Olivia who handled all our telephone and walk in queries swiftly and honestly! When we were in the buying/selling process Lucy from Ashtons Harpenden was an absolute dream to work with. She really advocated for us and helped during tricky times of the process and got us through the finish line! On moving day Lucy was at the end of the phone right up until we closed the doors to our flat and kept us calm in what was a quite chaotic day! Poor service and lack of communication. Had our property sold through Ashtons, which subsequently fell through (through no fault of Ashtons). During this time dealt with Elissa who was great and the only positive thing about the process.
Once our flat went back on the market the attitude of Ashtons completely changed. We got the impression they didn’t care and had better properties to be selling. Our calls were all ignored and sent straight to voicemail and no callbacks were received (even though they were promised). Any communication we did get was generic and it was clear nobody had done any work on our sale. Polar opposite to William H Brown who we listed as a Co-agent and ended up selling through, and I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Were told repeatedly from Ashtons that our property had no interest despite their apparent broad network of buyers. William H Brown then had 5 viewings booked within two weeks…

I rented a 2 bed flat in St Albans and recently terminated. It would have been zero star rating if not for the likes of Jamie Newson-Love's professionalism from start to finish. My low rating relates to my experience with the asset management team who are located in the Welwyn Garden City branch and not St Albans. A bunch of headless chickens who do not bother reading the tenancy agreement. Floating in the air in your apt for the duration of your tenancy, does not guarantee a return of your deposit as they will find ways to encourage the landlord to retain it. As a tenant, do not expect any customer service (in fact, it's borderline disdain), and they are a 'black hole' for effort if you try to engage. What you can expect is a terse and obtuse responses from their head of lettings (when they engage).
Don't be alarmed to get invoices sent to you when you raise maintenance issues, especially when it relates to serious statutory repairing obligations. I reported an electric bulb exploding with evidence, which could have caused serious injury. After the electrician attended, the invoice was sent to me for payment, because in their opinion, it required a simple light bulb change. It was no point trying to resolve this with the head of lettings either, as he was aggressive and threatened to deduct from my deposit if I did not pay. I blatantly refused to pay for the invoices and was prepared to settle in court.
Do not be alarmed when you rent an unfurnished flat and are informed at the end of your tenancy that you will be charged to replace furniture. Ashton's say they were take instructions from the landlord. In effect, the landlord had asked them to defraud me and they complied.
Finally, do not be alarmed if the landlord attempts to charge you for removing a toilet brush (not drilled into the wall), after she has sold the flat. She had no intentions of moving back in or reletting. I have not made any of this up and was happy to see the back of Ashtons, asset management team. I had to fight hard to get my full deposit back.
I was able to get a my full deposit back as ultimately, I paid rent in full and caused no damage to the property. KO

When we decided we wanted to move home I went onto the internet and used a comparison site to see who we should consider. Ashtons led in all categories listed on the site (number of sales, highest percentage in asking price etc., quickest sales etc). However, I felt it would be appropriate to contact 4 estate agents to get their views on what they thought of our property and more importantly how quickly it would sell for a fair price.
Out of the 4 estate agents who pitched their services to us, Ashtons stood head and shoulders above the other three agents. Tom Case convinced us that if we used Ashtons they would have no issues in selling our home for the asking price if not more. Tom also valued our house higher than the other 3 estate agents. I wasn't convinced at first but I decided to go with Ashtons because of Tom's professionalism.
Within the first hour of us signing the contract with Ashtons, Olivia and her colleagues had booked 18 (EIGHTEEN!) viewings on the Friday and Saturday afternoon. Out of those initial viewings we had 3 offers ABOVE the asking price. Tom was right with his valuation.
Once we had agreed who we wanted to sell to, Sam Ward came into the picture. Throughout the sale Same has ALWAYS made himself available to answer my emails and phone calls and even giving me the bad news when solicitors along the chain were holding us up. Sam has been brilliant throughout the process and I highlight his efforts because even though Tom has to sign customers up, and Olivia and her colleagues have to make the bookings... Sam had to put up with me for longer!
We are a nation who like to complain but rarely make the time to pass on our 'Thanks' - I have made the time to say that I can now see why Ashtons were rated number 1 in all categories on the comparison site.

After visiting what felt like almost every estate agents in Welwyn Garden City, Ashtons stood head and shoulders above the competition - the staff were very professional both over the phone and in person; these may seem like basic expectations but they were severely lacking in some of their competitors, in some instances I was just given a business card at the door (not invited inside) and told to ring the number/use the website. I considered it a blessing that Ashtons were the ones who found me a suitable property to rent and I had no hesitation in signing with them.

We have just purchased our property in Welwyn Garden City through Ashtons and we are very happy with the services that we received. The process took longer than expected due to various issues in the chain. Luckily, we had the pleasure of dealing with Sam Ward (Sales Management department) who actively followed up on various matters to ensure that the transaction kept progressing at all times. We had agreed with a landlord, through one of the letting agents, for the full asking price on a rental property. With this in mind we were invited to referencing. The letting agent we was dealing with went on holiday, (Friday), so we was asked to go to the branch and his colleague, Tom, would deal with us (Monday). We arrived at the branch, and although we called ahead to confirm our appointment with Tom, when we arrived to branch he was busy on a phone call. Nevertheless, another gentleman took copies of our IDs and we passed on all documentation, we expected to pay the deposit but the gentleman told us that Tom would be in touch as he is busy. The next day we got a call from Tom, saying someone else had shown interest, which was strange, because as far as i was concerned the deal was done, we were paying the asking price, the landlord agreed and we were just waiting for Ashtons to take the deposit. Tom then called to try and hint that the other party had made a higher offer and asked what our final offer would be, we offered £150pm over the asking price, and actually we said we would pay what ever it costs to take the property but Tom said its not about the money, the landlord wants the other tenants and at that we lost the property. The original letting agent came back from holiday and we tried to figure out what went on.
In the end we found out Tom stole the letting from the agent we was dealing with so he could earn the commission for himself. I understand it is a sales industry but there should be some integrity between peers as this looks bad on Ashtons. I own several business's in the area and we pride ourselves with integrity. To ask a client to take important time out of their day knowing that you are not going to let to them because you want the commission is appalling. I feel sorry for the first agent as i feel he served us well and if it wasn't for him being on holiday we would be in that property.

They only listen when there is a contract to sign. The follow up service will ALWAYS fall in deaf hears. They become ghosts. Nice property but the service is INEXISTENT. Don't hold your breath.

I hope I've not left anyone out. Your entire team in Welwyn Garden City were FAB. We chose Ashtons out of a few local agents, some of whom we had used before. They were responsive and supportive and so were nominated to sell our property for us.
They were on the ball right from the off and continued the responsive and supportive stance throughout the process. We had numerous viewings and an accepted offer within 2 weeks of the start.
We had some delays at the latter stages (which were not of their making) and they kept up the good communications and pressure on other parties to ensure we made it to the line.
We complete in 2 days time!

My experience with Ashtons has made it apparent that if you are a first time renter or not fully aware of your rights then they will likely try to pull the wool over your eyes, so be careful and make sure to question anything you aren’t sure of. I personally dealt with Alf and Kirsty, both work in lettings and do not seem to have much knowledge or awareness of how to act professionally.
I wouldn’t recommend Ashtons in Welwyn to anybody looking to rent or purchase a property. The staff in this branch were unprofessional and uninformed during every interaction I had with them, which unfortunately lasted over the course of a number of months. When the current 12 month rental contract expired it took Ashtons over 5 weeks to send a renewal contract; by the time this had arrived the landlord had decided to sell and wanted to provide an eviction notice. Ashtons broke protocol when providing the eviction notice and didn’t attempt to contact or explain the situation beforehand; they then admitted their staff had acted against their professional guidelines - this seemed to be a regular occurrence.
Ashtons staff then advised the landlord to request deposit deductions for repairs that they had informed the tenant would not be needed, and when they were advised that the TDS would unlikely side with the landlord (I spoke with TDS directly ) they conveniently changed their opinion and advised the landlord not to request these deductions. They continuously avoided questions regarding whether or not they were acting in the best interests of both parties, and at one point Kirsty the lettings manager actively declined to answer. I requested a face-to-face in the Welwyn branch and was told it would be a 2 week wait before I could speak to somebody in person.
I won’t say that you shouldn’t use Ashtons in Welwyn Garden City, but I will say that you might want to speak to other estate agents first.

We moved just over 5 months ago now and as first time buyers were a bit nervous about dealing with estate agents but Sam at Ashton's really put us at ease. Throughout the whole process he showed that he had expertise, local connections (especially handy for a last minute structural survey demanded by our mortgage provider!) and was constantly "on it" to ensure that the sale went through with as little delayed as possible. I feel very lucky that this was our first house buying experience and we absolutely love our home.

Vague, Expensive, and intrusive.
Check-out costs - you pay for the privilege of leaving the property; and the cost - who knows until you don't get back some of your deposit ! Renewal costs - you pay for someone to send you a web link to an automated document signing tool.
Expect to pay ....and pay you will.
New tenant viewings of the property are extremely intrusive and persistent. If you like confirming bookings, and then have secret extra ones added in without you knowing - these are the letting agents for you. We had 3 extra ones in and around the confirmed booking - how lovely.
If you want a straight forward, professional, and respectful letting agent - I suggest you save your money and buy a house instead.
*N.B our landlord was OK - the agent wasn't !
