We purchased a house that John Alexander (London Road) were selling. We found that they put unfair pressure on us as buyers, telling us only 1 week after we had an offer accepted on the house, that if we didn’t send them details of a conveyancer/solicitor that day, then they would have to consider putting the house back on the market (this was not put in writing but was clearly stated on the phone). On another occasion, we told them we were away on holiday and they could reach us via email and we’d respond as soon as we could, so they then called us for a non urgent query instead. They also tried to put pressure on us to exchange contracts before the arranged building work had been completed, despite us being clear this was a condition of exchange. The team did communicate our requests/concerns clearly to the vendors, and responded to emails quickly, but apart from this we did not have a great experience.

The team have been incredibly supportive and they know their stuff. We were initially with another agent who were unresponsive and didn't deliver against the package sold. However, the JA team were all really polite, responsive and solution focused. We leant on their expert knowledge to try new approaches and soon had 5 offers on the table. We ended up with an incredibly complicated chain (owing to the bottom of the chain), but the team - Craig in particular - stepped in and pushed the process forward, despite having in excess of 100 sales to manage. (They're popular for a reason). Where our buyers' agent failed, Craig stepped in and made a huge difference. Without the John Alexander team I genuinely believe the chain would've fallen through. They called and communicated when they said they would and kept the chain updated which, believe me, is seemingly not common with all agent. Also, they were all friendly and down to earth which is what you need when things get thorny. Thank you for all your work and support.

Going back a few weeks now, I recieved a very professional and pleasant viewing, from John Alexander estate agents. On the viewing it self at a property in Colchester.
I was completely puzzled, confused, to learn that after chasing up a question I had about the property, I had to eventually call them up my self a week later, and discover that I couldn't even offer on this house, because I was a dependant.
...... why even arrange the viewing in the first place and leave me stranded for a week after?
A tad bizarre but thought I'd share this experience publicly. A complete waste of my time in all honesty.

I used John Alexander to sell my house and was initially purchasing a house through them too. They sold my house quickly and then sadly the sale of the one I was buying fell through on the day of exchange, which in turn meant I lost my buyer. They were brilliant and found me another buyer quickly and I also then found another house to buy. Debbie at JA the sales progressor was excellent and worked tirelessly to ensure that the house move went through the second time, knowing I was nervous. She went above and beyond to chase my solicitor, and other parties to speed up what was turning into a longwinded sale and purchase and kept me sane and informed at all times. Nice people but probably wouldn't use again for a few reasons but I didn't appreciate being told a price and then when signing the contract was told the price I had been told was without VAT and I should have known that. Having bought from council I should not have been expected to know the price I was told was incorrect and this doesn't help you feel confident in the company after that.

I’m honestly surprised at the amount of good reviews this company had. We went with JA after looking through their reviews, all which seemingly were fantastic, however our experience with them was anything other.
We sold our property through this estate agent and it was awful from the beginning. It took multiple attempts to get decent shots of the property, and even with the final results I still wasn’t happy but was told they couldn’t retake anymore - I could have done better using my own phone camera.
The communication was beyond poor, I found myself constantly having unanswered emails, no one picking up the phone, and if they did I was told they would call back later which never happened. As my sale progressed I was left in the dark continuously, I ended up using the estate agent of the property I was purchasing for updates as they provided better ones.
At one point the director, Craig, was involved. He claimed he would do “everything he could” to speed along the process when we were stuck at a cross roads in regards to solicitors. After a couple of empty promises I was told he simply couldn’t chase anymore as it was looking ‘unprofessional’ (I’m unsure how when your salary is commission based), this issue was then again solved by an alternative estate agents. Craig seemingly dropped the sale of our property once he had decided he had done enough (he had not). Right before the sale closed in & all parties were ready to exchange, I was hit with total silence from JA no matter how many times I phoned / emailed.
I am beyond disappointed with the customer service we received from this company, it was truly terrible, and I’m assuming they were aware of this since they did not reach out to ask for a review. We ended up having money knocked off our final fee in what I can assume was an attempt to make up for the horrendous service we received.
If I could give 0 stars I would & I absolutely would not recommend this company. The estate agents I bought through however were excellent and I would urge most people to look at selling or buying through Fenn Wright, they were amazing.

Absolutely outstanding service from Debbie Parsons & Danny Read!
We finally exchanged contracts today with completion due Friday after what felt like a never ending battle with our chain and solicitors. Debbie was with us every single step of the way, making sure we were updated with every piece of information possible no matter how big or small.
We would not be moving into our new home this Friday without the assistance of Debbie and for that we will forever be in debt to her.
Debbie is an absolute asset to John Alexander and we really can not thank her enough.

Thanks Danny, Ruby, and Elliot - getting my flat listed was an absolute breeze, with viewings booked in immediately (and I mean immediately) followed by getting offers within 2 weeks. I was prepared for the listing process to take a couple months at the least, but everything moved at an incredible speed. Danny was able to suggest a listing price that felt realistic and took into account nearby flats of a similar size.
Elliot and Craig also deserves a huge shout out for ensuring completion went smoothly in our chain. There were a couple points where I got genuinely concerned at the status of the chain, but they were all on hand to ensure everything kept chugging along and to chase the relevant parties. Would definitely recommend John Alexander as they're priced competitively, are very responsive, and genuinely helpful.

We found them to be an excellent choice as our property was sold after an open day with in days of giving them the go ahead with the sale.We questioned their valuation and then settled on the one we thought the property would achieve. My partner and i are students that needed a place for our second year studies and found one through this amazing company. Before signing we saw a few bad reviews and was apprehensive. However, these reviews could not be any more different from our experience with the company. Any issue we had in our property was resolved astonishingly quickly with amazing communication from Tom Mansbridge, either through emails or phone calls. We cannot thank Tom enough for helping us with all our little queries as we are first time renters. All i can say is Jackson and Co have been so professional and we would recommend them to anyone interested, as they have made our rental experience very easy.

I was a little nervous using Jackson & Co after reading some of the reviews. I couldn't find another agent that offered as good as value so went with them. I can honestly say it was the best decision ever. I couldn't ask for a more knowledgeable and helpful team. Their communication was informative and they guided me through the rental process throughout my year contract from me first stepping into their office to the end of my contract. The negative reviews appear to be issues where tenants have not read through their contracts before signing and have then made false accusations to the company out of their own frustrations. If you need a rental property I can only recommend Jackson & Co as your first and only go to company as you will be in good hands throughout your tenancy. Thank you to the team for looking after me.
