I applied to rent a house with my son through this agent. We were subsequently turned down with the excuse that my son could move out, despite the fact that my son would be named on the contract with me and would live with me while we try to sort ourselves out in a year. So therefore we would be breaking contract if my son moved out. Which either the landlord didn't understand or it's a lie. Subsequently I then received a letter from the post office with our application form inside that had been found loose in the post. This is in contravention of GDPR as it had our salary details, employer details, address and phone numbers on it!
I would not recommend these agents to anybody.

Before working with Carter and May, my experiences with estate agents in both the rental and real estate sectors were consistently poor. However, Ben from Carter and May completely changed my perspective, proving to be an exceptional professional.
In the past, we were subjected to deceit, manipulation, harassment, and gaslighting by various local estate agents. As a result, we considered using a free online estate agent service to sell our property. Deciding to give a new firm a chance, we turned to Carter and May, and here's what happened:
We found ourselves in a critical situation where we needed to sell our house within two weeks. Ben accomplished this in just one week. When a subsequent chain breakdown occurred, which was not Carter and May's fault, we had to sell our house again. Remarkably, it sold within three days of being listed. Ben's good understanding of the market and his ability to sell houses quickly was evident.
Throughout the sale process, Ben made a point to regularly update us on our sale's progress. This communication was invaluable, as it kept us informed every step of the way.
Ben proved to be honest. His transparency and openness about his motivations and opinions from the start built a foundation of trust. This allowed us to engage in sensible discussions later in the buying process, enabling us to make informed decisions.
In conclusion, my past frustrations with estate agents had led me to view them as a poor investment and a detriment to one's mental health. But with Ben from Carter and May, I am pleased to report that there is at least one estate agent who is truly worth their fee.

Following my above comment the owner/director contacted me requesting I edit this review "to state the facts"
This company placed their sold sign in my property when my house was still for sale with another agent, this did not only affect the sale of my house, it is also illegal.
I attempted to contact them multiple times but no reply.
We have now been threatened with legal action unless I remove my original review.
It makes me wonder how many other people have been threatened with legal action for submitting a review based on an interaction with this Owner/Director of the company.

We’ve sold and purchased a number of properties with different Estate Agents, and by far our best experience have been with Ben.
He really understood our position and went out of his way was to assist. He is always available, very responsive and always able to accommodate extra viewings, surveyor visits and allowing us to arrange access to the property when we needed it.
We’ve had issues with mortgage valuation and Ben did his absolute best to make sure the purchase goes through despite our sellers’ solicitors been extremely difficult. With Ben’s help we’ve managed to agree and exchange with a delayed completion to allow us time to put new funding in place.
Ben is not an average estate agent, he has a good understanding of lease option agreements, exchange with delayed completion and other creative strategies that can be applied if a property transaction is not quite straight forward.
Ben has exceptional work ethic, through his approach he makes sure he gets the best outcome for both the seller and the buyer. He is honest, hardworking, flexible, and extremely helpful. And he always comes back to you when he said he will.
From our experience in the past, once the sale is agreed, the sales progression process is the main pain point when dealing with various agents. Most of the time nothing happens unless you take matters in your own hands and start chasing. It was however very different this time, Ben has kept on top of everything providing us with regular updates. It as a first time during property transaction, I didn’t feel stressed having to progress my own sale/purchase. Ben did a smashing job!
Honestly, I can’t recommend Ben high enough. If you would like a 5 Star service when selling or buying your next home or an investment property, Ben will look after you and will make sure it all goes through. Without hesitation I would recommend Ben to all my family and friends.

He is very professional and kept a great relationship between the buyer and us and completely goes the extra mile which to be honest doesn't happen these days.

After being on the market with a local agent in Fordingbridge for 9 months and receiving a odd call from them and only 2 viewings i lost my faith in agents. I had received two letters from Carter and May i thought lets just give them ago. Ben came round, positve full of energy and explained what he would do and what he would change. Tim had previously sold our house, so when we came to putting the house on the market he was very familiar with the property. His actions were extremely pro-active and we had managed to sell our house within a week. During the process, we unfortunately came up against issues with our forward purchase but Tim had helped us by chasing our seller's solicitors and in the end was our key contact in helping us exchange. There was obviously an incentive for Tim to help us complete but at the same time, there were several others who could have offered this same sort of assistance and didn't.

I can't praise them highly enough. Charles Lee guided this sale from beginning to end, the epitome of what a real estate agent should be but rarely is.
Apart from selling the property within two weeks, he then kept in constant touch with the buyers and with myself. He phoned both solicitors regularly to move it all forward. The buyers' solicitor sent out repeated (already answered) questions three times to stall for time. Charles was very supportive and gave good advice. Having correctly assessed the situation he advised the buyers to take action. As a result we have now exchanged contracts well within the requested time period with completion in a week's time.
My emails were answered quickly and I had at least a weekly summary of progress by phone.
If that were not enough, this is the only local agent I could find who doesn't tie you in at all and you are free to leave at any time. They also only charged 0.75% (at the time I sold) which was refreshing. However it wasn't that which made me choose them.
I had visited a number of local estate agents and spoken with them to get a feel of their attitude towards the client. I wanted someone I could work with and who would really listen. I realised that as a firm, Carter May thought outside the box and were unique in their approach.
There are no questions to answer when you agree to them acting for you, they just get on and market it. Other agents sent out lists of questions (hard copy and not email so you would have to scan them to keep a copy). These were the questions you have to answer again for the solicitors, so they have no need to do that. I had a three page letter from two agents I had visited, with all the terms and conditions which really implied an 'us and them' attitude. The letters also told me how marvellous they were and tried to sell themselves. They seemed to feel the need to safeguard themselves rather than the client.
When I asked Carter May to sell the property, I got an email confirming they would and no paperwork - bliss!
I speak as a customer who has sold a number of properties over the years and experienced many different estate agents. Carter May is different. Tell them to sell your property and they will, it's as simple as that.
Carter May, and Charles Lee in particular, is with you all the way, what more can you ask?

Right from the first moment Jake came to view our property and discuss putting our house on the market I knew they were the agents for us. Carter & May Estate Agents are second to none.
Richard is extremely passionate at what he does and soon after meeting him, we knew that he was the right man for the job. We sold a week after going to market and at a great price.
When you go through an exceptionally difficult conveyancing period as we did, you realise that not all estate agents deserve the bad reputaion they so often get. Richard never gave up, kept us constantly updated and informed (in our case right down to the wire, due to buyer's solicitor's appaling communication skills). This gave us great confidence that we had the right people on board, in what was at times, very stressful.
Backed up by a fantastic support team with Naomi and Jake who were always kept in the loop. They never let us down at any point throughout the whole process.
Thoroughly professional. We highly recommend Richard and the team at Carter & May without any reservation whatsoever. No matter how many hurdles, they'll get the job done.

I wasn't sure whether to go for an online or conventional agent, but I am really pleased that we went with Charlie and the team at Carter and May. They achieved a really good price, which likely more than made up for their extra cost compared to an online agent, and notably at times were a voice of reason and support where others in the process were not. I'd heartily recommend them.

I switched over from Connells who seemed to make up viewings and were impossible to get hold of and the difference in service was amazing, I was constantly kept up to date on how things aware going and Charlie was all round really helpful with any questions I had.

Rented a property with this company for 7 months due to the landlord wanting his property back because they moved back to the country. Would *AVOID* renting with Carter & May, before moving in and putting our holding deposit down they wanted us to move in a month before we said we could (we told them the date we could move in before putting our holding deposit down) they threaten we could lose the property if we didnt move in sooner. But I refused due to already telling them the date we could move in and because we were moving from over 200miles away it wasn't achievable.
On getting the first initial bill of desposit/rent/referencing fees it was incorrect and the lady who we were communicating with about this was extremely rude and abrupt via email claiming they were right. But it turned out we were right they had missed out a day. No apology.
They never came to do the 3month checks on the property. It look them 4 months to fix the lock on the door which broke on first opening the door (they claimed we had shut the door too hard) eventually we got it fix and did not have to pay as it wasn't shut too hard, it was upon opening the door the little handle over the lock which you use to shut the door as their is no handle fell off. It had clearly been just an overuse issue and I was the unlucky one for it to fall off on. They never fixed the shower head which would only sit at one height.
On getting our 2months notice to move from the property, they said they would help us find somewhere within their letting agency to rent. Numerous properties within our budget came onto the market, however we never got to view them as they never told us. The communication of the lady who runs the letting agency side was poor and unprofessional. She never rang, would only email and sometimes her emails would not be sent even though she claimed they had been.
On moving out of the property they took 5working days to check the property over and tried to charge us for crums and grease in the oven and water marks on the shower. However, I took photos on leaving the property which proved otherwise resulting in them having to give us our full deposit back. Again no apology just an abrupt email.
I have been renting for 10years, never had any problems until using this company. They come across friendly and their reviews online which I checked were good, unfortunately they were all from sales but I thought it still reflected a good company. The experience I had was not that.
The property we rented was lovely just sad how the letting company has ruined our first experience at renting in Salisbury.

I almost never write a review on the internet for services rendered, but after being the recipient of the care and quality produced by Carter & May I feel thoroughly obliged.
My property was certainly on the modest side of the market (1 bed apartment), but this didn't detract from the time and effort spent by Charles (Sales) in finding me the right buyer at the right price. Timely communication, measured advice and regular updates were offered throughout (critically important with myself now living overseas) and all of my questions and requests were dealt with in a manner befitting of a genuinely caring and professional outfit.
I have absolute confidence in recommending Charles and his team, for a personal and honest service you can simply look no further.

I can't speak highly enough of Carter & May and Charlie and his team. They took over the marketing of my property from a previous agency and i had 3 times the number of viewings in the first 3 weeks of marketing with Carter & May than i did in the previous 3 months with first agent. Their proactive and friendly approach to marketing is excellent and their communication is superb and even take time to contact you even if there is nothing to say. I never had to chase them or indeed solicitors as Charlie carried out the whole process. I would not sell a house in Salisbury with anyone else.
