I had a viewing with Duncan from this location. He was extremely friendly and helpful. Throughout the viewing he was very chatty and relaxed, allowing us the time we wanted to explore the property in order for us to see if it would be right for us. Prior to the viewing, communication was good.
I did not proceed with the property as it wasn't the perfect fit, but would be happy to work with him again and view other properties.

- Irresponsible, deceptive and bipolar attitudes before and after signing the lease.
- Hastings also attempted to request additional disputes to deduce our deposit without prior notice but was rejected by the deposit protection scheme.
Better luck next time.
- Constantly ignores emails from tenants involving lease terms and landlords’ responsibilities, claiming that “they’re only responsible for letting the property and lease terms”

Poor experience renting with Hastings. Delays in receiving help with items that would have broken by wear-and-tear in rental, and despite leaving house in better condition than when arriving my former flatmate and I are having issues accessing the deposit. They’re 3 months delayed on reimbursing us our 2k+ deposit, and seem to have contractually broken the contract by seemingly not allocating the money in a deposit holding scheme. We reached out to the landlord individually (who they blamed for the delays) but alleged Hastings never reached out to them. Since then they’ve continued by not responding to shy email outreaches about receiving our email inquires - this with the London branch manager, Mark Porter, and the individual property manager in copy. Both my flatmate and I work long hours in finance and have flagged how much time it takes up on our end to conduct weekly follow ups about updates of where our lost deposit is, without any respect of our time. From the perspective of a tenant, I would not recommend to rent with Hastings.

I am not at all surprised that Tom has offered to mediate unfortunately that went no where when I escalated to him. As to check in and check out reports, this is legal loop hole. Most landlords are not in the local vicinity so how can we possibly be in attendance. After all that is why we pay for a managing agent. Given this property was on Hastings books for over 6 years his line about my duty of care is laughable as these were new issues that developed during the period they were taking money for management and not doing so.
Be aware that Tom while professional in his outlook is not in charge of the rental business so is full of empty words of empathy but has no teeth in the firm and no budget to put right the wrongs of the management team.
The service provided by this management agent is totally substandard. Check in and check out reports were factually incorrect. Large areas of damp and dripping plumbing were not noticed during mid term inspections. My new agents are more responsive and have a better marketing website and are proactively managing the maintenance of the property. Do not use these guys. In response to the owners post: This matter was put through internal escalation within Hastings with limited if any response, I never got one return phone call. As to stating I as the landlord should challenge the factual accuracy of check out and inspection reports that is impractical as a remote landlord. I engage a local property management agency to be my eyes and ears on the ground. The damp and dripping plumbing occurred during the period Hastings were meant to be managing the property and as the owner pointed out they were clearly there for some time without reporting. This is all the more reason why Hastings should have identified and managed this to resolution. While the local branch manager is a nice guy all the property management work is done by a separate team.

Tom Backlog, the branch manager of Hastings, London Bridge did a fantastic job of selling my flat which was not the easiest of sales. He knows the area backwards and was very reassuring all through, gave me very thoughtful advice, and as I was unable to come to the property at all due to shielding from the corona virus he stepped in to go way beyond his brief to help with necessary tasks when I was absent.
His colleague Lee McDermott was assiduous in following through the negotiations with huge energy and altogether I thought the process was handled brilliantly on my behalf.

Hastings were the estate agents appointed by the seller of a flat I purchased. Right from my initial phone call to express interest in the flat, I dealt almost exclusively with Lee McDermott. This provided welcome continuity throughout the multi-month process, and even when Lee was on holiday over Christmas he was covered by well-briefed colleagues, who kept things moving. Lee was warm and friendly from the moment I first spoke to him. He arrived at the property in good time for the viewing and was always fast at returning phone calls and replying to emails. Once I made an offer, Lee was excellent at keeping me informed as the price was negotiated with the seller and I never felt like he was trying to persuade me to overpay. After my offer was accepted, the solicitors largely took over but Lee would occasionally nudge people to ensure things kept moving. He was also happy to make a recommendation for a surveyor, who did a good job. By the time of completion, the coronavirus lockdown had started but Hastings made sensible arrangements for me to collect the keys and Lee was helpful at quickly resolving a query I had afterwards.

Lee McDermott found a buyer for my flat in just over a couple of weeks. Lee was the only agent who could see the potential for a good price. My zone 2, one bedroom flat was a former Council property and Lee saw beyond the common prejudices against local authority stock and made an excellent job of promoting the qualities it had to offer.
The buyer needed an unusually long completion period but Lee steered us smoothly and calmly to the finish line. He clearly has a great deal of experience and insight in this field and is a good communicator. Personally, I preferred minimal contact so Lee could just get on with the job and he certainly did get the job done.
Consequently, I got £385,000 for my 50m2, ground-floor flat. A very good price in straitened times. Well done, Lee.

From the first phone call to Lee McDermott to organise a viewing I was treated with a professional sales approach, most definitely not pushy but with expert knowledge combined with encouragement to provide me with the best option available within my budget.
Lee always took or returned my calls promptly and never showed signs of irritation with my constant back and forth. Unfortunately my journey was not simple but Lee stuck with me and in the end helped enormously to make my dream purchase happen.
Purchasing in London is a challenge but equipped with a great estate agent, coupled with extremely high customer service, sheer passion and excellent knowledge from its employees, I could not recommend Hastings International Borough high street London and the skills of Lee McDermott and the branch manager Thomas Backlog highly enough.

I recently attended a launch day @ New Pier Wharf in Rotherhite, SE London, which was being managed by Hastings. When I turned up at the show apartment, I was really impressed by the way the day was being managed by the agents, I found every one from Hasting was very professional and approachable. For my appointment, I was assisted by Lee who showed me around the show apartment and went through each and every detail at length, and answered all my queries. By the end of appointment, I was really impressed with the unit and booked a flat on the same day. I found the whole transaction very easy and was kept unto date by Lee until the contracts were exchanged. Based on my experience, I would recommend Lee and Hastings without any hesitation.

The worst possible agency anyone will come across. The manager Stephan is a disgrace. He is a horrible inhumane being. He will agree for you to have a pet and then he will lie to all parties and say that he never said those things. Ignore your phone calls when you can clearly hear him in the background and then when you arrive into the borough office to address him, you get shouted out of the door.
I will recommend this agency to no one. AVOID. This man is why estate agents have a bad name. Unprofessional.

Very mixed feelings here, but overall quite disappointed.
The standard job expected of an estate agency ( the undemanding one) was adequate - essentially giving access to the property and little else, as they knew very little about the property including the fact that it had been under contract by their own lettings division.
When we needed attention they were spectacularly lacking. The seller breached the fixtures and fittings agreements due to their inability to have the right furniture removed: essentially by not exercising any due care once the contract had been signed. To add insult to injury they then offered a derisory amount in compensation that was never actually paid anyway. Not professional and certainly not recommended.

I recently rented a flat from Hastings and would not recommend ever using them again. They are rude, threaten you with a withdrawal for asking questions with regards to the tenancy and their fees are astronomical. Almost £1000 in fees to take a flat and their breakdown is quite honestly a joke with no justification!
Sal in the London Bridge office is useless and lied to us on several things, the biggest being the fact that he had not even contacted the landlord to tell them we would be moving in or to ask them any of our requests. This was only discovered when we were forced to go into the office to find out what was going on. The manager Stephan then realised what had happened, although he was not suprised as apparently Sal had done this before.
On top of all this and the above average admin fees you would expect a quick and efficient process. This is far from what we received. Constantly having to chase the office on contracts and the move in date being pushed back by almost a week from what was originally agreed. The office is so unorganised and do not expect a call back if the receptionists say they will make sure it happens. After we moved in it took almost a month to finalise everything and get issues fixed that should have been completed before we moved in. For example a professional clean.
Avoid avoid avoid! Completely useless.

This is the worst property management company in history. As many of the reviews have mentioned, they really have zero customer service. Very flaky people and do not give you a direct answer even when you call them directly.
It is not worth having to deal with them. It is better to find some other renting companies.

EDIT: The 5 Stars review below from Colette Smith is FAKE! She works there, see photo attached. All those likes for the 5 stars are likely to come from employees, DO NOT TRUST THEM.
All the people who work in these agency are by far the most incompetent, rude, and careless professional that I have encountered in my life.
From messing up with your rent to rude emails, going through ignoring EVERY SINGLE REQUEST MADE until you show up in their face they will make you curse the day you phoned up. Our property manger, Ethel, simply ignored our request to get the deposit back for weeks until we showed up in the office. Salespeople do not know what they are doing, they asked us to scan passport 3 times and forces us to do a bankers draft rather than a normal order which costed us more fees. HUGE FEES (980 £ for 2 people!!) which will include stuff like inventory, referencing, non better specified "admin", on the top of the already large "agency" fees.
We wasted a month of our life dealing with Mark, the manager of the property branch, which was acting more like a child than a professional. He simply refused to talk with us when confronted with our disagreement for a retention.
I honestly do not understand how is it possible that such people are still in business. The Landlords clearly have no idea of how bad they are; when we were in the flat a salesperson simply "MISSED" a couple of viewings!!!
Nobody has ever a clue of who you are or what is going on.
The emails sent us by mistake, or just asking for something which did not relate to us (we received private details of other tenants and landlords by mistake) are simply countless.
Don't let mean, incompetent, clueless people handle your stay.
I know it is difficult when they have the flat that you want, but PLEASE do not rent with them!

he experience with Hasting has been terrible. After letting the flat, is like dealing with ghosts: no answer to any of the emails, excuses over excuses when called on the phone, and no real interest in their tenants except the rent.
Every query asked is always unanswered, seems like the emails go straight to the bin.
At the end of our tenancy, the check out company used was different. When we left, they first carried out cleaning of the flat and then provided with the check out report, which obviously stated that cleaning was required and was due on us.
They have the highest fees in the market, even more than Foxtons, and will try to get as much money as possible for you.
Please never rent or engage in any kind of commercial relationship with these people

Let me share my experience and what we had to go through! This is absolutely the worst agency ever! Denise McCabe performs her duties breaking the laws!
First of all once we moved in into our new property we received only 1 pair of keys! Agency advised us to make another pair of keys ourselves which took us 3 weeks to make it! We had to get the landlord permission and deal with key supplier companies.
The manages of our property was constantly being changed and we always had to wait for the response.
The worst part is the end of tenancy... a few weeks before our tenancy ending the Hastings international agency changed our deposit protection company to another company WITHOUT giving us any new documentation.
One day before our tenancy ending we had a cleaner to make sure everything is in a good condition. I took pictures for the reference. We paid £90 for a cleaner. After we left the property the agency sent us an email that the flat hasn't been cleaned and mentioned that they will deduct £170 from our deposit for the cleaning of the flat. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!
Just because they transferred my deposit to another company I had no control of it. It took us almost 2 months to get the deposit back, of course not in full.
They bridge so many laws of Section 213 of the Housing Act 2004. They failed to provide the details of my deposit protection scheme within 30 days of the payment of my deposit.
They also failed to return the deposit back within 10 working days after the tenancy agreement is over.
This is the worst experience ever, all I want is to sue this company for all stress and challenges created. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IM ABOUT TO DO.
So please be aware of it! This is completely not reliable agency, despite the amount of money they are charging for the agency fees! Ridiculous.

I have never left a review for any company on Google. Given my experience with Hastings, I feel I need to share my experience with potential clients.
It was, without a doubt, the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a property management company. Hastings confused our move in date with another client, continually threatened to relist a property we had a deposit on for no valid reason. We were reassigned to a new account manager. They were less than helpful and even hung up on us then pretended not to be in the office when we called back to ask why we were hung up on.
The only way we were able to secure the flat (it took 4 months) was when I contacted the current tenants to get the Lamdlords contact information. Once I spoke with him directly, I learned that very little of our communication had been correctly communicated. I resolved all questions and got the tenancy application moving.
Upon move in the flat was not professionally cleaned and quite filthy. It was still full of furnishings (we rented unfurnished). A list of maintenance items that would normally be tended to before a new tenant moves in remained unattended 3 weeks into the tenancy (and counting) with no confirmation on when they would be addressed.
Property Manager does not keep us updated and does not respond to emails in a timely fashion.
I highly recommend you let your property through another agency. This is without a doubt the worst experience I have ever had. I myself am a Landlord and would never treat potential tenants in such a fashion.

Absolutley the worst experience I have had in 10 years of renting! Our hunt for a property with them was good I must say, Christian at the Rotherhithe Street branch was charming, helpful and helped us find a property within quite literally a few hours of searching!
The problem was the property management itself, complaints were ignored. The property fell apart, everything was awful. I once sent a formal complaint address to the manager, it's been 18 months and I haven't received a response.
They skinned us alive for our deposit, we didn't fight because we just wanted to be shot of them! We didn't care enough about the money to deal with their rude behaviour.
DO NOT USE THEM!
I'm so upset by the rude service we recieved, it has however pushed me hard to get saving to buy a house. SO kudos on that respect.
Our new letting agents actually contacted them and then after one communication contacted me to say they didn't want to contact them again and would rather do things differently as they were so useless and overcharged for referencing services.

This was our local branch of the estate agent that was actually a very good branch and relatively friendly. Unfortunately as a tenant you should be aware that a lot of the time you will be dealing with their main office which is absolutely abysmal. My review that I have posted on that office address is below. If you see your dream property accompanied by one of the nice local branch teams, I'd strongly recommending going elsewhere as they are the most unprofessional team that will ignore you unless its about paying them a fee. our property was in Harper Road and we left recently for reference. I'm not interested in being contacted by Hastings about this review as we are now lodging a formal complaint with Property Ombudsman.
Without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had in 12 years of living in rental accommodation. This isn't my local branch but most of the problems we had were with the central office who processed our contract and still have not returned our deposit 3 months after vacating our property. I dealt with Mark who was rude but did answer some emails and Denise who was rarely available but polite when she was during my tenancy.
The main problem is that we have not been contacted since August 3rd by Hastings in relation to returning our deposit. They have also failed to respond to the DPS as well over the last two weeks. We have agreed to have our deposit returned in full, the simple problem is nobody at hastings has done anything or even responded to us.
Additional to this we have had the following problems.
Agreed a new fridge as part of a new contract which was never installed
Constant issues with our tenancy agreement when changing names that was time consuming.
Inflated fees for references at end of tenancy £60 each so £180 for 3 people.
Being asked to do the comparison of our original inventory to our exit inventory ourselves and highlight it for them after paying above average admin fees.
constantly having to ask again and again via email to get a response on multiple issues.
Rude emails from staff.
The landlady who used this agency changed the property over to someone else and called me to apologise for using them as they were so so bad.
We are now taking to the dps to be resolved and lodging a formal complaint.
Don't be suckered in by the local teams being nice and friendly for most part they were and they sorted out routine items, but the main management team that handles contracts and other items are so so bad you will have a terrible time renting from this agency.

I have been a tenant with them. They were really a poor managing agency. Very rude, prone to take money from you and blaming you for anything.
Unfortunately when I became a landlord, I had the weakness to let them rent my property because I was short of time.
They are absolutely incompetent. They have charged me for some safety work which has never been done and it took me 6 months for them to recognise their mistake and to give me the money back.
They are very poor responders to email or phone call.
The worst came when my tenants wanted to move out. They have lost the set of keys they were holding so no prospective tenant could visit the flat.
They don t organise the inventory check out for you which make it very stressful for a landlord living abroad.
Now they want to give me back my deposit 3 months after my tenants have moved out to make sure that they have sufficient fund !
Tenants and Landlords, don t use Hastings International in London.
They are completely incompetent and unethical.

The worst estate agent you can ever find. I wish I had found more reviews on them before actually renting a property through them.
They do not care about you, just your money; they make everything in their power to make you sound stupid and feel miserable. They do not answer emails and never available for calling. Not punctual and do viewings as if they are making you a favour.
during the first viewing they usually sound kind and super understanding; after that, however, it is a nightmare.
Moreover, there is nobody to contact when you face problems with flat, bills etc. They did not even send us the signed contract just to find out a couple of weeks after move-in date that the landlord did not actually see the contract yet.
