PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO BUY/RENT FROM THIS AGENCY: Do not.
Firstly, I have never been a person to write such a terrible review, I worked in customer service for the first 7 years of my career, but this is beyond anything I've ever experienced.
We have had the absolute worst experience with this agency and specifically Sarah Varley. From the beginning of the process to the very end it was littered with poor management, lack of communication and disrespect. The communication was as you would expect at the beginning, however as soon as we put our offer in and sent the money the service became increasingly worse.
To keep this short I will list the most difficult aspects of our process with them:
- Agreed to a move in date, we made arrangements with our landlords (we were all living separately), only to find out 2 weeks before move in date that it has been postponed 1 week. This ended up costing us upwards of 1k with last-minute accommodation costs and movers.
- Hardly any communication from agency once we had sent the money for the deposit and 1st month's rent (roughly £5k). Insisted on receiving the funds before we had even seen a draft of the tenancy agreement. Refused to sign the agreement before funds were transferred. Sent the agreement to sign 2 days before move in date, realistically no time to have it legally reviewed.
- Kept blaming the landlords for their shortcomings however upon personally meeting the landlords, we learned the landlords were facing the same issues with us - no clear communication from the agency and agency was actually blaming us for their mistakes and making us seem difficult to the landlords.
- Flat was filthy upon moving in: no professional clean, bug infestations, mould colonies behind furniture and between balcony doors. Agency had the cheek to request a professional clean upon moving out.
- No mention of the property going up for sale prior to us signing the tenancy agreement.
- Found the flat up for sale by the same agents 2 months after moving in, no communication about this from the agency for the next 2 months. Left us with a 2 month notice to find another flat.
- Continuously bombarded us with viewing appointments for potential buyers, so much so that we had to limit them to 1 weekend per month.
- Upon moving out we still cleaned the entire flat to a high standard, ensuring it was left cleaner than found. Agency then tried to charge us £120 for "dusty skirting boards and bathroom window sill".
- Were unable to get in touch with landlords for over 3 weeks, delaying the return of our deposit. We were ready to take legal action but thought "let's try to get in touch with them ourselves". Though we couldn't reach the landlord, we reached out to their son who was able to get the answers, approvals and our deposit back to us in not even 24 hours. How can the agency not have a second contact like a next of kin, is beyond me. Please note, we didn't even have the son's number, we literally found him on Facebook in 5 minutes.
- Any kind of chasing, enquiring or trying to push for an urgent response was always met with a defensive. When we had sent nearly 5k before we had signed the agreement, after a few weeks, I called and explained that if we don't receive at the least the draft to the tenancy agreement and a clear move in date, then I will be forced to seek legal help. Sarah Varley then accused me of being verbally abusive and cried to my partner about it when he called to enquire about the same thing the next day.
Other than this, you will find yourself lucky to find Sarah in the office as she is on holiday most of the time, and as she is also the PARTNER of the branch, there is no one of her seniority that can cover. Hunter's also lease their name out to all these unofficial branches, so you will have no luck trying to contact HQ or submit a complaint.
Even if the flat is super nice, is it worth getting gray hairs over it? Because you will.... Read more

Hunter’s were absolutely superb to deal with. We had a hugely complex sale and Sarah was incredible - she guided us and the entire chain through multiply hurdles and negotiations keeping things on track and getting us over the line. Most importantly, she was transparent at every stage, fair, professional and positive. I cannot thank her enough. I don’t think we would have ever got there if it weren’t for her. Thank you!
