As a new landlord I was so impressed with Jesse who held our hand from the valuation right through to the tenants moving in. He’s been so helpful and professional and it’s genuinely been by far the most positive experience we’ve had with an estate agent. He was very honest from the start with the valuation which we appreciated, and our property went off the market the first day of viewings as he’d told us to expect (but we didn’t quite believe!). Everything was good until my check out.
Upon check out my landlord which this agency was representing attempted to charge me £100 initially to replace lightbulbs which were not working in the first place. They said the claim is that high as call out charges for a contractor would cost that much. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they try to take advantage of tenants at check out and hold your deposit hostage. When I rejected the £100 charge they then dropped it down to £50. When I rejected that my deposit went to dispute where the independent adjudicator themselves said the tenant cannot be liable for replacing something I was not responsible.
If you go with this agency remember that the law does not allow the landlord or letting agent to claim ‘new for old’ from the tenant’s deposit. This would result in the landlord or letting agent receiving a better item or more money than the item would have been worth at the end of the tenancy.
This agency will take advantage of you if you don’t know your rights as a tenant.

When we decided to put an offer Daniel took over. There were a few false starts and some unexpected hiccups but he was really good as a liaison between us and the seller.

We have recently purchased a flat with Hunter's Camberwell, and have closely worked with Daniel who is 10 out of 10 for responsiveness and you'll get promt replies to any email from him. He takes pride in his work and will take out of his own time to kindly make things happen for his clients. There is 1 aspect, however, that made our experience less then perfect and that was the 1 month notice on a monthly rolling contract the tenant was on, we were told about from the beginning which ended up not to be the case , and we had to move at short notice in a 1 month temp accommodation because of that. Brett was exceptional, very professional, as well, he went out of his way to accommodate our needs at short notice. All in all Hunter's Camberwell is a strong team and sure to provide you with great service.

Hunters of Camberwell have been really great selling my flat in Brixton in a difficult marketplace. They never went overboard on promising the impossible in terms of time scales and pricing for the sale and were always available to help. For example I was not aware of the difficulties of selling a co op flat. Their experience and suggestions helped me over a couple of hurdles.
On another, every day level, when I needed services performed they knew who to go to and who was reasonably priced. I live at the other end of London and so they could help me by visiting the flat and problem solving.

Back in 2013 I bought my flat from hunters and had a very smooth transaction, they took family around the flat for extra visits and nothing was too much trouble.
5 years later I started renting my flat and Hunters took care of everything. They dealt with all the admin, maintenance and problems.
Last week I sold my flat with Hunters and they helped the transition from renting to sale. They project managed the sale to completion, with lots of energy and enthusiasm to get the deal done.

Darren Vicary was our main point of contact and did a great job of keeping us informed of progress, especially in the final weeks as exchange and completion got closer. When we had some delays towards the end of the process, Darren did his very best to move things forward as quickly as possible and pushed the solicitors when required. When we received the keys and the seller had left a lot of his belongings behind, Darren very swiftly arranged for a company to come in the next day to get rid of everything we hadn’t asked for. It’s often said that estate agents only look after the seller but we didn’t feel like this with Darren and Hunters during our house purchase.

There were lots of agents courting me but it was an easy decision once i met Brett and he explained his ideas for how we would market the flat and how his team prepare the photos and the online strategy. No other agent came with a strategy that felt bespoked to my flat and how they would go about selling. I had multiple offers from potential buyers and it sold in the first week! Brett handed over (as planned) to his colleague Alex who would be my sales agent. He was brilliant and very welcoming with potential buyers. He listened and took on board all the things i loved about my flat and he was great at liaising with the potential buyers and managing their interest. He worked around all the covid restrictions and made everyone (inc me) feel really welcome and safe (when they visited). I have never sold a property before but Alex walked me through the whole thing. Hunters worked as a team, and on the very rare occasion (once!) that Alex had a day off Brett or some else knowledgeably stepped in and was able to help. It really was a pleasure. It all happened much faster than i thought it would too (even with the mad stamp duty rush!) Alex kept in regular contact with the solicitors and always knew what was happening for either side of the sale. Yes, it was more than an online agent but having a local knowledgeable sales team that know my area and know the ins and outs of Lambeth made things run smoothly. Took days for us to find out if the property was ours or not. They were beginning a referencing process without confirmation. Asked us to supply information again and again and expected us to sign a tenancy that was re-sent one day before move in due to all the errors as it had not been done properly. Surely an indemnity would have made more sense. Would not rate them at all. Awful agents for tenants, will advise the landlord of this when it becomes relevant. Rema and the lettings manager were awful and quite patronising. We may be students that doesn't mean you get to treat us like idiots especially when we were so organised and had to re-supply again and again because no one was taking notice.

I also don't understand how I couldn't contact you, but that is an office issue, not a potential client issue. Yes you are correct, the appointment was in the middle of the day, the middle of a working day, mid-week, during working hours which we took time from to unsuccessfully visit the property.

When selling, the flat was marketed beautifully, and they got us an offer on the first day of viewings. Would avoid like the plague, took £300 cash from me as a holding deposit to let a property, only to tell me the next morning that they’ve opted for someone else. I had a bad feeling when a gentlemen came in to attempt to put a holding deposit down on the same property and they informed him to come back after I’d gone... never known anything like it, didn’t fancy replying to my email explaining my gripes either

I am John Adlam the lettings manager referred to in the review written by Ms V Carpenter on the 4th October.
I will begin by apologising if she felt I was rude to her in any way during the duration of her year long tenancy as Hunters always aim to deliver the highest levels of customer service which I have to say is born out by our 100% independent customer satisfaction survey across both sales and lettings.
That said I feel compelled to reply to her owing to a number of glaring inaccuracies and untruths.
Firstly a wardrobe was not 'promised'; they were told, as we were told that the previous tenants would be leaving their wardrobe.
At the final moment they chose not to do that. The landlady who was very ill at the the time elected not to provide a wardrobe, all of which was entirely beyond our control.
Once the landlady got well we persuaded her to provide a wardrobe which she did.
The tenants moved in on the 2nd Sept 2017 the new wardrobe was ordered on the 25th September 2017. I have documentary evidence to prove this, so to say they were left without a wardrobe 'for months' and 'had to keep our belongings in a suitcase for months' is entirely untrue.
With regards to the condition of the property and deposit deductions: an independent professional inventory company performed the check in and the check out.
The check in describes the property as professionally cleaned, carpet shampooed and walls freshly painted. .
The check out describes the property as in a very poor condition, in need of various repairs and a damn good clean. In their words not mine it was 'filthy'. I have documentary evidence to prove this.
Her deposit was registered and protected by the DPS .
Ms Carpenter also claims her deposit was halved. She agreed to the requested deductions and they totaled 17.7% of her deposit. Again her claim is entirely false. I have documentary evidence to prove this.
With regards to the damaged door lock and not receiving proof of the that I refer to an email sent to Ms Carpenter on the 13th September 2018 at 1236hrs where I directly refer to that proof as being on Page 4 of the check out report. Again her allegation entirely false.
I have to say it is so disappointing in this modern age of communication and the internet that someone can post such spurious untrue allegations that have the potential to detrimentally affect a business that someone has spent so much hard work and years building.

John was repeatedly rude to us throughout the year that we rented a flat through Hunters. His replies to our polite enquiries were either blunt or passive aggressive. As a property professional myself, I would never send the kind of emails that John did to paying tenants, ranging from offensive to downright patronising. I have never had to deal with someone being so rude to me when I am the one paying for their services. He obviously does not enjoy doing the job, or feels he is above lettings.
To give an example, we were promised a wardrobe, as stated specifically in our tenancy agreement. When this did not come with the property (bedroom two had no drawers or wardrobe), John demanded ‘buy one yourselves’ – telling us ‘I’ve told you the solution. Take it when you leave. Simple as that.’ This went on for months, during which we received gems such as “you can get a wardrobe for less than it costs for a meal for two”. As we intend on living in furnished flats for the foreseeable period buying our own wardrobe was not a good option for us. During these months we had to keep our belongings in suitcases. Not what you expect when you are paying £1350 per month.
When we left the property, we were wrongly accused of breaking the door handle. When we asked for proof, we never received it, and as a result our deposit was halved. We cleaned the property from top to bottom yet John emailed us saying “ I have been in the business a long time and in my view it was disgustingly filthy, but I do have high standards”. This sentence is not only immensely rude but implies that we were living in squalor and have “low standards” which is certainly not the case. If a professional clean was required that is all he needed to say, although I suspect Hunters order every flat to be professionally cleaned as they obviously have a contract with the cleaning company. He also accused us of stealing items from the property, then took over a month to get our deposit back to us.
We were incredibly surprised to discover John’s senior position at the agents given his unprofessional attitude and manner – he is undoubtedly giving Hunters a bad reputation. We dealt with several other employees at Hunters Camberwell who were all polite and a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, due to John’s shocking behaviour, we will definitely not be using Hunters again.

When we first met Darren, he was absolutely open and honest about the property he was showing us, and he was clear about the application process, and possible outcomes of our offer.

After pulling out of a house 3 days before we were due to move, leaving us effectively homeless and costing us in storage and transport costs, they couldn't even provide the smallest goodwill gesture of returning my holding deposit by bank transfer rather than me having to go out of my way to come back and collect it in cash. I would expect it possible to spare me this one small inconvenience in return for the huge inconvenience I've been put through. Our agent Jon was a nice guy, but manager's policy and lack of apology very disappointing.
