Matthew Stacy was the seller's agent in my recent purchase. Matthew's client is quite dis-organised (e.g. misplacing the keys for the flat on sale), but Matthew dealt with this with a sense of humor, eventually recovering the keys.
During the transaction stage, for a while, my solicitor was acting quite slowly. I was able to get hold of lender's inquiries, and saw that one of the items was an electricity certificate. I figured that rather than waiting for my solicitor to talk to the seller's solicitor, I should just ask Matthew. He got the certificate for me the next day, and my solicitor was shocked when receiving it from me.
The valuation turned out to be lower than my offer price, which meant that the bank would loan me less money. I was really out of cash by that time. and wanted a price reduction so that the sale would go through. Matthew was able to negotiate with the seller, and I got the price reduction I asked.
Overall, a positive experience... Except that Matthew's task is not over even though the sale has completed - a fob is missing - and hopefully, Matthew will help getting it for me!

The team at Matthew James managed my partner's and my tenancy in a flat in Tufnell Park over three years.
During that time they were always responsive to issues of maintenance and provided a helpful, friendly customer service.
I would recommend tenants to use Matthew James when renting in the Kentish Town area - much better experience than having used any of the larger estate agencies in the past.

I can highly recommend Matthew James & Co. I have been dealing with them for close to 25 years.
I first rented through them when I moved to London 20+ years ago, and the experience back then was great.
I then purchased a property in Tufnell Park, but let it out a few years later when I decided to move to another country. Matthew James & Co managed the letting, and continued to manage it for a total of 20 years, while I lived on the other side of the world. I was always very happy with their service, and the way in which they managed things. They were always great to deal with, and always offered quality and trustworthy advice.
I have just recently sold the apartment, again through Matthew James - Graham handled the sale. And the experience has again been fantastic.
Thank you very much to everyone at Matthew James & Co for all your help and support over the years. I really appreciate it.

Andrew was our main contact and his experience, calm approach and great communication was spot on. Matthew James is the antithesis of the pushy estate agent, they marketed the property well and brought round serious buyers and then dealt with the whole process in a very professional manner. Matthew James sold my flat in March and the service they provided was second to none. The online listing showed it in the best possible light; the photographer did a brilliant job, even repositioning furniture to achieve the best results.
The negotiators' level of experience and professionalism was apparent on several occasions and they took away the stress from what could have a been a stressful experience. Special thanks to Graham who was our main point of contact throughout.

I've recently exchanged on the sale of my house having marketed and sold it with Matthew James. I had 5 agents come to value the property. All bar Matthew James were local agents and on the face of it, it would have appeared to make sense to secure the services of one of those. However, I was very taken by a number of things about Matthew James that I couldn't ignore. 1. Their sell rate 2. Flexibility on fee and term of contract 3. Their use of a professional photographer (once the photos were done I wanted to buy my own house! ;) I also just really liked Matthews style. Professional but down to earth, open & honest, very straight talking and I felt confident he'd be best able to showcase my house to prospective buyers. Matthew was very supportive throughout the whole selling process, was always on hand to answer queries and provided updates promptly. I came to realise he is also unflappable. A great quality to have in an agent especially when the business of selling borders on emotional or stressful (invariably happens unless you're a zen master and / or a seasoned property investor or developer). I have nothing but praise for Matthew and his team and would highly recommend the agency. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

For lack of a better word, they are not w*nky like the rest of them, they add the human touch, professional, understanding, efficient and helpful. Matthew James Estate Agents est de loin, la meilleure agence que j'ai rencontré pour la location de mon appartement. We have been tenants in a Matthew James property in Tufnell Park for over six years and in all that time they have been exemplary in their service. They are thoroughly reliable (always on hand with any issues we had), really efficient (would always deal with things immediately and get back to you so you always knew where you stood), so kind (they helped me out on a few occasions when i'd locked myself out, going so far as to meet me with keys when i had a small child in tow), understanding, patient and always fair in their dealings between us and the landlord.
I have dealt with a few real estate agents in my time and they totally go against the grain of the stereotype - it has been such a pleasure to be under their management and we have felt nurtured and secure from the get go.
Ignore the bad reviews which seem to be personal vendettas, they're usually the weird ones who take offence at something and then have time on their hands to write fake reviews and then get their relations to also write fake reviews.
We couldn't recommend the Matthew James team more highly. They are a credit to themselves and to their industry. I even miss having them on hand to discuss our home now!

I was a tenant in a Matthew James managed property for seven years in the Tufnell Park area. During that whole time they were outstanding in their service. They were reliable and acted with integrity. They were very fair in how they conducted the relationship between us and the landlord. They went above and beyond in every respect. They were extremely flexible when we had changes of tenants within the group.
Matthew and his team completely smash any negative associations of estate agents. Matthew is very calm and was very transparent with us when the property went on the market to help us prepare for our next step. He gave us sound advice. They are fantastic relationship manager first and foremost. I'm sad to have moved out of the area as I absolutely would have wanted to use them exclusively to find a property to buy!
Ignore the bad reviews, they're clearly fake or weird personal stuff and I hope they get taken down. This is a small family business who have a warm ethos.
I couldn't recommend more highly renting with them, hiring them to manage your tenants or sell your property. I wish them all the best and believe that they are setting the standard for all other estate agents to follow.

Unfortunately my experience with this agent was far from pleasant or positive. I would never recommend him and I am surprised with these firve start reviews here... Matthew James has been neglectful, misleading and disloyal, to say the least. Arbitrary is a good way to describe my experience with this agency and the last tenants they found me which happened to be his friends. Matthew James promised he was going to send my neighbour a letter asking her to prune a huge overgrown Willow tree as it was covering my garden. Sadly, this did not happen as I found out from the property manager that only one letter was sent one to that purpose. It is important to say that not only the grass was affected adn disappeared, but the house was covered in cracks due to the subsidence caused by this tree. This was a combination of three factors, the size of the tree and roots, the tenants lack of care, and Matthew James' obvious neglect.

I have let my property with Mathew James for many years. They let and managed my property leaving me to focus on my main job. They are reliable, efficient and opperate both a professional and yet personal management style. Due to this appoach the tenants and myself the landlord were left very happy. This meant I was fortunate to have longer lets.
I was always provided with professional clients who were pleased with the way the flat was managed and therefore always paid the rent on time.I would recommend Mathew James services without reservation. A 5* star experience!

I have been meaning to give some feedback on the service received from Matthew James since moving to my flat a few weeks ago. It is by far the best experience of agency usage I have had. A colleague introduced me to Matthew James 6 years ago when I was looking for an estate agent in Kentish Town. They had just rented a flat through them and had a thoroughly positive experience so came highly recommended.
Matthew, Sue and Andrew are a lovely bunch of people who are a credit to the area and an industry that is often thought of negatively. They did an amazing job of looking after my flat when I was living abroad for some years. The flat never sat empty and the tenants they found were all great - they did a better job of looking after my flat than I did!
Amongst the many things that make Kentish Town so great are the independent businesses and Matthew James are no exception. They are slightly off the beaten track, being off the main high street and just a little further north of the tube station on Fortess Road but well worth the trek, I promise.
