I had a very, very disappointing experience with Star Lettings back in the summer of 2021 – I'd been served with a section 21”no fault eviction” due to an issue with mold in the bathroom floor (which it transpired was caused by a “long term leak under the bath”) I still owe money to southwest water because of this. I'd reported the issue with the moldy bathroom floor to Star Lettings some two years previously. This notice to vacate was on hold throughout lock down due to Government legislation but didn't do much for my peace of mind. In my experience it seemed that the landlord always came first and I lost half my deposit even when I'd cleaned the house as requested though it was difficult given the underlying mold issue that should have been addressed when I raised two years previously. I was also told that the flat would be completely renovated as the landlord planned to turn the place into an AirB&B (which I believe has happened) so I left the place completely empty with a clean up as best as I could (thinking I wouldn't overly invest too much time in it, given the renovation would be going ahead anyway) After moving I contacted Star Lettings about my deposit but Star Lettings tried to withhold my entire deposit, in the end I managed to get back half of this, but not without a struggle. I first met Brett a couple of years ago when looking into the student market. I didn't do anything at that time. It was a pleasure to meet Brett again in July 2021 when viewing another property, and subsequently other properties. Brett is generous with his time, doesn't rush you, and tells you the facts as he sees them. I feel he gives his views and advice in a very straightforward manner which is what you want as a buyer or a seller. I would have no hesitation in recommending Brett for his professionalism, friendliness and someone to go to for advice. I have started renting a property that is unfinished and Star Lettings is powerless to take any action against my landlord, they have left the finding compensation to us and us alone. Students need a letting agency that strives to protect them. They have by no means gone above and beyond to help us. As a taste of how unfinished the property is, there is only a small window for rear access so cannot dispose of rubbish to the main road. Star were very accessible in my time of crisis and were quick to provide me with a viewing and the paperwork that came after. Throughout the year, they were very approachable when needed, and the moving out process was well defined, making sure that we could do as much as possible to receive the majority of deposits back. Generally, I would not recommend Star Lettings. Most members of staff were difficult and unsympathetic to the difficulties of managing a household for the first time on your own. However, Josh Denning was a rare ray of sunshine. Throughout the two years that he oversaw our property, he continually went above and beyond to help us out. The slightest query and worry were not only answered quickly, but he would voluntarily come round to talk through any issues in person. I found student housing quite a stressful experience, but Josh was an absolute lifesaver. Could not recommend him enough. I would recommend going with Star Lettings if only to be able to have the opportunity to have Josh help you through the student housing journey.... Read more

Good communication, and tasks are followed through as promised. The directors have taken personal personal responsibility to ensure houses are presented well to new tenants. Quotes are obtained for improvement work, and Star have a reliable group of skilled tradespeople who work with them.
