Atrocious and unprofessional business. Any decent landlord would avoid like the plague, tenants beware.
To future tenants, we made the mistake that not every complaint or conversation was written or recorded at the beginning of the tenancy, if you have to use this company I urge you must only recieve email correspondence from them so you have your own back. The owner is extremely confrontational, rude and arrogant, you will regret not listening to this advice.
Our flat had debt (from previous tenants) of over £150 in the gas meter that we were not told about and had to pay ourselves. When my roommate was moving out, the owner phoned her and badmouthed me to warn her about who she chooses to live with for no reason. We found a large bag of needles and drug paraphernalia in the kitchen (they do not charge for finding a tenant, in other words for they put anyone in these flats!). Exposed pipes that sporadically froze throughout winter leaving us with no running water were not properly repaired until 3 months later. None of the walls were insulated and heating it was like throwing money down a hole, all of the windows were wrongly fitted and draughty. Our shower was left leaking into the business below for weeks. We complained multiple times in person about the mould problem and how freezing cold the house was but nothing would ever get fixed or it would get 'looked at' and then forgotten about. Anything wooden or leather turned green and mouldy in the flat, anything metal will rust and start to corrode and pit, we found out our mattress and countless of my clothes were ruined as well when moving and we hadn't even lived there for two years. If you were unlucky enough to catch the owner she would patronisingly tell you that there is no problems in the flat and that they fall on us as tenants, you will be told to leave windows open 24/7 in winter due to mould and heat the house 24/7 in a cost of of living crisis with no insulation.
In the end we decided to stop complaining about anything at all because we didn't have the time or energy to deal with the owner or constantly nag her agents. I am sure the only type of landlords who willingly use Countrylet are ones who are happy to sit and get their rent every month whilst doing nothing and hearing nothing about the property. We were advised to seek for damages from citizens advice but we would rather run a mile from this company as soon as possible to save our sanity.... Read more
