We cannot recommend Oakleys highly enough and are so pleased we chose them as our agents to sell our property in Lewes. They took great photos, marketed the house to the right people, got a number of second viewings and found us the perfect buyer. They were also really supportive when our ongoing house purchase (through a different estate agent in Lewes) fell through. Carolyn and David in particular were absolute stars – big thanks to them and the team. After dealing with most of the agents in town to buy our new property – we can say with absolute certainty that Oakleys are the best!
It cost over £500 in fees to rent a one bedroom flat with my wife through Oakley in Lewes. We were charged double as a couple but received one tenancy agreement and one set of keys. We spent about 6 months at the property and our total contact time with the agents was probably less than half an hour. They didn’t manage the property, so as soon as the contract was signed they were no longer interested. They used an external company for referencing and another company for the inventory. They charged a £50 “checking out fee” to leave the property, which pays for someone from another company to come and tick a few boxes. This really got me thinking about what the agents actually did for us, apart from a 5 minute viewing, then acting as a middleman and passing on the charges to the tenant. Shortly after leaving the property the government announced they would ban tenant fees outright. I’m not surprised as I think these fees really took the biscuit. We now rent privately.
UPDATE: Thanks for your response below, however my review was not questioning whether your fees are clear or not, it was pointing out that after using your service I do not feel I got good value for money at all. It’s no wonder the government are clamping down on this. I’m not sure when a checking out fee became “industry standard” as this was a first for me in 10 years of renting in the area. My previous agent was much cheaper, didn’t charge double for couples or a check out fee and provided a far better service. I'm sure the readers can decide whether approx £500 fees for 6 months in a flat sounds like a good deal. Personally, I think it's money for old rope.

We mainly dealt with Paul Sains from Lewes Estates. He was fantastic - very knowledgeable and patient. He gave good advice and was always quick to flag up new properties to us. Paul was also very generous with his time. Can't thank him enough for all his help.

I found Lewes Estates through searching for property in Lewes via Google and was expecting the usual dull English Estate Agent, although their varied selection of quality properties caught my eye .I met a number of local firms and my opinion continued to prove the Stigma to be the rule .
However , i found Lewes Estates to be a refreshing change in its approach to customer care and the needs of a potential buyer.
It is rare these days to find a company so driven yet approachable. I met various staff who were both knowledgable and friendly.
