We had a very positive experience selling our house in Harrogate with Alex from Carter Jonas over the summer and would strongly recommend him. Prior to going on the market, we had a lot of the agencies in Harrogate out to visit us for valuation and the ones that stood out were Matthew at Hunters and Alex at Carter Jonas. There were significant differences in valuations from all the agents that visited and we found only Alex and Matthew were able to really qualify and substantiate their valuations. We opted for Alex in the end on the basis we felt we were going to get more of a 1-1 service and because he had sold our house before. We were able to agree a very fair commission structure with Carter Jonas which satisfied all parties and provided an appropriate incentive structure. Finding the right buyer was important to us. We had young children and a timescale we wanted to work to for our move in order to tie in with school term dates. We had also done a lot of work to the house during our tenure and we felt it was important that our selling agent understood this and could convey the value to any prospective purchasers. Alex really got to grips with our brief and was able to explain to us his approach to finding us the right buyer. It was also important to us, because of our family situation and how we had improved the house, that viewings were organised at times which worked for us and carried out by a person who knew the detail of the property. Prior to our property hitting the market, Alex had three prospective purchasers lined up for an initial viewing all of whom were proceedable cash buyers, for whom our property was within their target criteria. Carter Jonas marketing was also highly effective and we had somewhere in the region of 14 viewings booked for the first three days of scheduled viewings within around 48 hours of hitting the market. Alex had reviewed the due diligence on each prospective purchaser and Carter Jonas generally had done a great job of this - so we knew the exact circumstances of the people viewing. Immediately after the first three pre-launch viewings Alex called and provided detailed feedback and thoughts. We very quickly had offers in hand and Alex's advice was extremely sound and considered, having regard to our original brief and we had full confidence he had our best interests and getting the right outcome for us at heart. We were able to collaboratively talk through different strategies and approaches and assess the pros and cons. We accepted an offer from some fantastic buyers and were able to cancel all further viewings, minimising disruption for our young family. Alex helped to progress our sale and was both extremely proactive and highly responsive in keeping our buyers and us up-to-date and helping chase up solicitors, not just on our transaction but across the entire length of the chain (and even while he was on a family holiday). The office team at Carter Jonas were great and we always knew our messages were being passed on and received prompt call backs (something which can't be said for the other agents involved in our chain). Despite some delays, mainly due to an extremely slow conveyancer at the top of the chain, we were able to complete our transaction to everyone's satisfaction just about within our target timescale completing early in the Autumn. Our buyers (the new residents of our old house) recently received a medical letter intended for our son and passed it to Alex. He went out of his way to let us know straight away that he had received this and made arrangements to get it to us really quickly. It's reminded me that we really should properly say thanks (and drop him in a bottle of wine). We are now in our forever home and hope not to have to move again, but if we do we wouldn't hesitate to use Alex and Carter Jonas again.... Read more

There's no shortage of choice when deciding who to list your property with, especially given the recent surge in online "agents" such as purple bricks and tepilo that seem to offer their services at a fraction of the usual cost associated with selling a house. But when selling your property, I believe you need to form a partnership with your agent(s) where a trusting, honest, professional and personal relationship prevails. You get all of this from Carter Jonas, Harrogate. They may charge more than their competitors but the local knowledge and level of expertise they possess, particularly Alistair and James, is second to none. We have been delighted with the service and delivery from Carter Jonas, and specifically James Spencer, who managed our property sale. From the moment we had our first conversation, we were pleased with the speed of response, practicality of the discussions and "does what it says on the tin" approach. We discussed options for the marketing process with James and the solution we worked to delivered a sale within 36 hours - no sign ever went up outside our house. James didn't delegate the small stuff - he rolled his sleeves up, always offered views and was spotlessly on time. Whenever he was out of the office, we were well covered with other team members who picked up the baton smoothly. When we hit a couple of challenges, James was proactive and pragmatic about what needed to be done, and he got on and did it. We have moved often, including around the world, and it is a rare thing to find an estate agent you really trust with their view and delivery - we found one this time, and would use Carter Jonas again and request to have James lead the process.
