RENTERS..... DO NOT TOUCH THEM EVEN WITH A BARGEPOLE !!!!
After renting with them for 4 years and a nightmare, I can tell that Chancellors are the most unprofessional, duplicitous and a nightmare to deal with. The only reason they get people to rent is because of the massive monopoly they have.
They are basically a bunch of unethical, immoral and disgusting piece of people who will ignore you, extract money from you without providing any service. Even if they provide any service, they are substandard.
Absolutely NO regard for Tenants and their wellbeing. If Google allowed, I would have given them ZERO star.
The only reason I had to rent with them for 4 years was some personal circumstances which made me moving to a different home extremely unlikely. If my circumstances were even slightly different, I would have left renting with them straightaway.
These guys just prey on your vulnerabilities.

As a tenant, Chancellors keeps disappointing me with their lack of urgency when related to property issues. Their Property Management team lacks organisation and care! I understand some landloards are trickier than others but every request is a battle! We lived with spreading mold on our W/C and a leak on our living room ceiling from the en-suite for months before they actioned anything. If you’re a tenant, think twice before signing a tenancy as you will be placed in situation where you are waiting for weeks/ months for repairs. If you’re a landlord, also consider how well they will maintain your property for you!

I believe they intentionally over value property in Botley to have a monopoly on the local market, when the property doesn’t sell they tell you ‘your home is overpriced’ the irony. I appointed Chancellors for the sale of my property, and have been really unhappy with the communication process with them, which was very good only at the beginning.
During the process, I was assigned to other people in Chancellors and the communication just became impossible.
Whenever you call them, each single time, they take your name, surname, address, email etc... after that, they say they'll call you back, which doesn't happen most of the time. I complained about this, and the answer was "we are very busy with other clients". What am I, a second-class client?
The sale of the property didn't go through at the end, and I decided to appoint another and smaller estate agent. The communication with the new estate agent was at a completely different level.

I met Mrs. Katy Campbell , the agent of the Chancellors Ltd Botley Branch in 2023 with the purpose of finding new tenants for my property at 41 West Way. However, this turned out to be the most challenging time for every landlord, as I found myself in a dire situation. Despite having a legally binding contract through Portfolio Property Ltd, the current tenant at that time failed to pay rents, did not return the keys when the contract ended, and ignored all communication attempts from Portfolio Property Ltd, even though the company exhausted all legal avenues to reach them. At the end of that tenancy, Mrs. Katy Campbell has already found a new tenant group for us but the tenant did not return the property to us and disappeared.
Our property was left abandoned with decomposed food and garbage inside. Furniture were damaged and burned, with the entire rooms reeking of cigarette smoke. It was horrifying to see our legally owned property destroyed, and we had to invest over £5000 in repairs. Just as the repairs were nearing completion after nearly two months of vacancy, the tenant reappeared with the assistance of Connection Support (CS), the entity belonging to the Oxford City Council, compelling us to accept their return by handing over the keys. The reason given by the CS was that the tenant had undergone psychiatric hospitalization.
The local authorities conveniently ignored the fact that the lease had expired, the tenant had destroyed the property and its contents, and they hadn't paid rent for four months. Our lawyer advised us to accept the tenant back, while simultaneously demanding the CS to pay the 5 months' rent owed by the tenant. Our lawyer had to restart the eviction process that we had compassionately halted, thinking the tenant had completely vacated, only to find out that they had not. Only then did the CS cease pressuring us to re-accept the tenant while refusing to pay the owed rent or the rent for the delaying time that we had to wait.
After causing us numerous damages, the CS returned, stating that they had advised the tenant not to return to our property. It can be said that this was a harrowing experience that a landlord had to go through in this country, and the indirect cause of these sufferings was the CS organization.
During that difficult time, Mrs. Katy Campbell, along with Portfolio Property Ltd, supported me through their precious advice, documents, introductions and contacts, enabling our lawyer to protect us from the aforementioned hardships. Katy Campbell, along with Portfolio Property Ltd, not only acts as agents seeking tenants for landlords but also becomes friends to landlords during extremely challenging times. I wouldn’t recommend Chancellor’s Real Estate Company to my worst enemy. Their agents are unprofessional and seem more interested in making a quick commission than actually helping clients. The communication is abysmal - I had to chase them down for updates on my property search, and even then, they often provided incorrect or outdated information. It’s like they have no clue what’s going on in the market or how to properly assist their clients.

Terrible experience, the worse team by far, the letting team office from the renewal all way up to managers, luck of communication, none of them are on the same page NEVER, sending wrong contract for the last 3 months, never respond emails, I've to keep chasing their team,always an excuse with them, paying management fees for them to handle a simple tenancy for more head aches than ever.

As a review of this branch, I cannot fault the service I have received from both Michael in sales and Ben on the lettings side. Whilst I would not endorse Chancellors as a company, I have realised that all the issues and incompetence I have experienced come from their 'back office' or central teams. Luckily my contacts at the Botley branch are now my 'go to'. Having bought my first house from Michael in 2009, I subsequently let it through Chancellors in Botley too. Being honest, at the beginning the service I received wasn't great, but since Ben Stevens has been my contact, things have improved considerably. Both Ben and Michael are friendly, professional and incredibly responsive, both on the phone and on email. I am now working with them on selling my rented out property, and they have made a potentially complex process quite simple.

Michael Trueman and the team were great throughout the sale of my house. During the time we dealt with Arabella at the Botley Lettings branch, we enjoyed very prompt and professional service - she is friendly and very good at her job, when there. HOWEVER, a failure to hand over to anyone competent when she went on holiday (without letting us know in advance) meant that we spent a couple of stressful weeks chasing up different arms of the centralised Chancellors machinery, over the phone from Australia. This was extremely frustrating, and when we finally managed to get a tenancy agreement produced, it ignored one or two minor terms that we had agreed upon in advance. Although the issues we encountered were mainly due to poor communication through the central system, it is true that, had Arabella personally ensured that there was someone who knew our file well with whom we could liaise, then we would not have had such difficulty. Not ideal when you've paid £480 in fees!

Dealing with Arabella is a pleasure. She calls you back (why don't people do that anymore???) when you leave a message for her. She gives honest advice and does what she says she will do. On the 3 or 4 time I have dealt with her she has been professional and a pleasure to deal with. A credit to her industry and company.

From the outset, we felt at ease dealing with both Michael and Charlie.
At the beginning of the process, we were accompanied by Charlie on a number of inspection visits to the property. He dealt with us patiently and was well informed on the issues we raised with him regarding the ownership and recent tenancy history of the property.
Following our surveyor’s visit and report, we were given further extended access to take measurements and carry out our own inspections. Concerns following this stage were conducted promptly via email so that there were no misunderstandings.
The price we settled on was the result of a proper ‘to-and-fro’ negotiation which was conducted by Michael. We are very satisfied with the agreed price.
Living locally to Chancellors, we were able to walk into their offices on occasions without appointment or invitation; we always felt welcome.
Finally, the information we received throughout the whole process was both accurate and relevant, and all in all, we are satisfied with the very professional service of Charlie and Michael.

We bought our first house through Chancellors Botley recently and were delighted with the excellent service we received from all members of the team. Jack Parker in particular was very helpful and kept us informed of progress at all stages. He was happy to guide us through the sales process and dealt with both sets of solicitors swiftly and professionally to make sure that we were able to move on the date we wanted to. It was very reassuring for us to know that we could call Jack whenever we had a question (no matter how big or small!), especially as the house-buying process was completely new to us! He always replied promptly to emails and although we were buyers rather than sellers, we felt that Jack was really working to help us too. My wife and I decided to buy our first house just over a year ago. We were finding it difficult to find a property which was right for us so we decided to approach Chancellors in Botley to assist us. Jack Parker was very friendly in showing us around many houses, until we found the one we wanted. He helped us through the negotiation process and was very helpful in giving regular updates. This made the process feel slightly less stressful, and it helped that Jack and his associates showed a genuine caring attitude to help us into our new home. When we eventually moved in, around a year later, my wife and I found ourselves in the difficult position of having to move again due to work commitments. Due to the great service we'd recieved from the Jack, we decided to sell through Chancellors. We were nervous that we would not get a good price, but had a helpful meeting with Jack that helped us come to a decision on a reasonable price. We went through a short process of people seeing the house, and Jack was extremely good at giving us plenty of time before visits to clean up and make ourselves scarce! We were so impressed with the customer service throughout, the genuiness of the staff to help us and the availability of Jack to talk to us to help ease any of our concerns. We have recently sold the property, and made a massive profit on a house we were in for barely a year. We thank Jack for his dedicated work in helping us buy and sell our house, making the process a relatively stress free and organised process. I am more than confident to say that if I were ever to move to the area again, I would happily phone Jack.
