The above fives words sums up the attitude of Parminder Mahay from Connells Estate Agent, Kings Heath, Branch in Birmingham. Here's why.....
Parminder Mahay was highly recommended to us but was on leave when we first contacted Connells. It was unfortunate as we had no alternatively but to make other arrangements as time was of the essence. One week later after her return from bereavement leave, Parminder called us, apologised for the delay and updated on her position. We were so impressed by her presentation that without a doubt, we wanted her to promote our property. Parminder appraised our property on 11.09.23 and from the photographs that she uploaded to rightmove within a few hours, it had so many views, it was amazing! The photographic images were far the best we have ever had over the ten years of renting properties. Parminder highlighted the key areas, such as the kerb appeal ie.,(front garden; double parking bay and full length image of the 3-storey house). The rear garden highlights were the views from the wasteland overlooking the garden, flower beds and patio. Internal images were sharp and strategically captured with attention to detail. Parminder's marketing strategies, negotiation skills and ethos won us over. Although Parminder did not ask for the keys to the property, she was given them. To give real service, you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money and that is sincerity and integrity! We wish Parminder every success; she is an asset to Connells.

We were introduced to a very courteous young man, Curt Alston. He was meticulous in his efforts to source a Mortgage for us, ensuring that there could be no reason from the banks to turn our request down. When the mortgage offer did come through, we were delighted. The property that we had our hearts set on earlier before the London and Country setback was still available. Ensured I was comfortable throughout the application and simplified the process. If I had any questions etc he would call me or book me in for an appointment to explain everything thoroughly. They are absolutely useless! Have been staying in a rented property over 4 years managed by them and have always paid rent on time. However, when it comes to referencing moving forward, they are completely incompetent! Drag out providing referencing by simply verifying the length of my stay and confirming if payments are made on time, which is a 5 mins job and dragged out over 2 weeks with various excuses! 2 words to describe them, unreliable and incompetent!!!

I want to state from the beginning that none of this is a reflection on Charlotte, who has been a dream to work with post rental. If this review was for Charlotte only it would be much higher.
We rented a house with Connells, originally Connells Bearwood however we were made aware it changed hands to Connells Kings Heath only upon leaving the properly.
Upon moving into the property, it was full of painting and decorating waste, the floors were so dusty that as we were moving in we were coated with dust whenever we moved. We had a month without gas as we were allowed to move in without a gas safe check being done, so the landlord told us not to use the gas until this had been done. This left us, including my 18 month old daughter, in freezing temps in February with no heating. Just as we thought we might be able to get the heating on we discovered the landlord had allowed nearly £400 in debt on the meter and we had to wait for him to send us the money to wipe that debt.
Both the front and back gardens were full of trade waste, we were reassured upon viewing the house by the letting agents that this would be removed before our move in, however it remained in the garden for the entire tenancy. The trade waste in the back garden included large amounts of broken glass and sharp broken mirrors, so we were unable to enjoy the garden for our entire tenancy as it was not safe for our young child. We understand this was an issue with the landlord, but connells should not be letting properties that are genuinely unsafe for tenants, without gas safe checks etc.
Still, we loved this house and treated it with respect and that was clear when we were granted our entire deposit back. We were relieved as we believed the battle would be over, they said we would have the deposit returned within 10 working days. 10 working days came and went and no deposit returned. We have emailed and called to chase and today been told that the accounts team for some reason did not receive the request even though everything was sent through as it was supposed to be. It was disclosed to us on a phonecall that this is not the first time this has happened but that we would receive our payment by end of working day tomorrow. However now they are saying the accounts team have too many payments to make and we will not receive until the end of day Friday. This will be 15 working days since we were granted our deposit back and is completely unacceptable when we have not done anything wrong.
Don't rent with Connells unless you as an excellent tenant want to be penalized over and over again. Because they will take advantage of you at every stage, even if you do everything right.

This is one of the worst letting companies you can deal with. They are frauds, liars and unprofessional. They lied to me when renting my property, kept the money paid by the tenants for a month in their accounts to gain profit on it and kept lying to me about releasing the money. I called them several times to cancel the management and they kept lying about it and manipulating to keep taking the management fees and not to return any penny. They have no manners and respond after days and days of emailing them. No cross communication and they asking same questions.

Worst service ever, i have seen there ad their move in date was 17 sept 2022 i submit my initial booking amount £161 on 15 september, when i came from abroad they said no its not ready yet someone is already living in that apartment and will move in 4 days, after that their estate agent Terri Ann and branch manager told me you have to submit guarantor's Employement contract, pay slips, source of income, financial statements, passport, and also they told me to fill homelet's forms, i did it on time, then they asked for guarantors employers details and we gave them, Now today on 30 Sept 2022 Terri and Branch Manager told me your referencing in not done so if you pay extra £800 to landlord then she can let you in otherwise they will move with another party and we will not able to return your initial deposit, but they didn't tell me this during whole process, and i'm living in Hotel from 12 days bcz i dont have anywhere to stay, they are very cheap and unprofessional,

We had a horrible experience trying to buy our first house from Cornells Kings Heath. The sale didn't go through at the end after numerous chases as the vendor were unable to clear the charges on the deed. We were ready to complete within 5 weeks but had to wait further on the vendor to clear the charades. During this we chased the matter with Connells and they were very slow in getting back to us, calls were never returned, for days no body answered the phone and emails were replied after 5 to 7 days. Was a complete waste of time and money and pure frustration. Went with their neighbour for the second attempt and completed within 7 weeks.

After renting privately for over two decades, when finally we wanted to buy a house, I found the overall process to be too complicated and confusing. That is, until I viewed the first property with Joanne at Connells. We were very lucky to kind-a-stumbled upon them but once I talked to their mortgage advisor Billy Knowles, I knew that I can rely upon him to make our purchase possible. I was not wrong at all and Billy literally took care of everything. He was always there for me, always sending me links to interesting properties and not just with Connells but even with other Estate Agents too.
Eventually we liked a property shown us so professionally by Joshua from Connells, giving us ideas about use of facilities, but we were a bit doubtful due to our lack of knowledge of the surroundings. i talked to Billy and he arranged for one of his evaluators to discuss pros and cons and we received terrific impartial advice from Aeron.
Billy collected our paperwork and helped in putting our mortgage application and once there were delays on the bank side when processing application. Billy worked tirelessly to get all paper work sorted and did everything so promptly that it was unbelievable.
It may seem like you are paying too much money for a lifetime membership but trust me, it's all pennies worth it. They are such a fantastic team and all of them I talked to on different occasions, from Joanne to Billy, are really professional and friendly and they have been so patient dealing with all my naïve queries and especially Billy with arranging everything from mortgage to insurances, etc.
Connells in Kings heath are really the best.

We were referred to Billy for a quote on our mortgage after a viewing with Connells. Despite not purchasing that property, we ended up getting our mortgage here.
From the initial phone call all the way to exchange and completion, Billy was always on hand checking in and offering advice and guidance on the mortgage as well as supporting us as first time buyers through the process.
We had a seller pull out of our first purchase and the way this was handled was a testament to Billy's knowledge of the system.
Additionally on multiple occasions when a better interest rate became available he reached out and moved us to that new deal.

Terrible Agent: My recent experience with Kori James lead me to believe in four things about Connells & Him - Dishonest, unprofessional, unable to communicate, and lacking the basic level of customer service.
I viewed a property and sent the application the same day, I was told that he will get in touch the next day. I didn't receive any communication from him, I chased him and I was told that landlord had questioned my request for a break clause. I amended my application increased my minimum stay to 18 months and 6 months advance payment of rent, he assured me that he will put my application forward in the next hour or so. I chased him the next day, he told me he hasn't done it but he is going to meet the landlord today and let me know. I chased him next and I was told that he met the landlord but couldn't discuss my application. I even told him why I have to chase, why can't you just let me know? From Saturday to Friday he kept promising that he will forward my application and let me know.
On Friday , I contacted the office and spoke with a different staff member who told me that let was agreed for that particular property a few days ago, which was really disappointing as he did not inform me. I didn't receive any communication from him he was being dishonest and deliberately ignored my application. Terrible behavior and service.

Personally, I'd suggest avoiding Connell's in Kings Heath if looking to purchase a property. I'm aware some reviews seem to highly favour them so maybe we just got unlucky / they were having a bad couple weeks. What I would like to say is positive is Billy Knowles appears genuine and helpful (mortgage consultant) and always sticks to his word with calls/agreed times.
Other than that, myself and my partner had to do all the chasing. They constantly agreed times to call us back and never did, meaning we had to ring them. Anyone would think they don't want to sell the houses! The property we were interested in was fairly overpriced for the area it was in & the state of repair. That being said, we made a few offers as we seen potential - each time ending up in an apparent bidding war (all of a sudden lots of interest even though the house had been on the market since Feb!) They were hinting at what price to go up to and there was plenty of false "we really want you guys to have it". On our last offer we were promised to find out if we had the house by midday on Tuesday. It's now Thursday and still not a word. Due to this we have decided to retract the offer and are having a much better experience with Shipways Shirley branch.
Even if we don't go with Shipways we won't be looking at any properties advertised by Connell's Kings Heath, and have warned a number of people to do the same who are currently seeking a property in Birmingham.
Massive amount of time wasted but the positive is we didn't buy through them and find out further down the line how incompetent they are. Lessons learned!

Wasted 2 weeks to hear that i was out bid lucky i already put in other offers after and got lucky. Am so pleased i didn't have to go through them would have been a nightmare. They are absolutely useless compared to the real professionals out there. Try to contact with them for a house viewing weeks ago, first being sold with their "mortgage advice service," then being asked to show them AIP and bank statement, after send them funds proof, no any further contact about viewing slot booked etc..
The service is very poor & the staff's attitude is very rude, unprofessional, the whole experience dealing with them is "dodgy" I soon decide to walk away with this terrible agent, no matter how brilliant the house they sell.

OMGoodness!! Each one of these guys in this office are Really good. They are always bubbly when answer the phone and super helpful. They always go out of their way to help and assist me, everytime I call. Due to their professionalism and great advice and support, I have learnt tons and have felt alot more confident, as I start my journey in building up my Property Portfolio. There is always someone who is willing to give me plenty of advice or at least will find out the info for me and get back to me.

Cannot speak highly enough of the staff at Connells Kings Heath, Aaron and his team-Billy, Max, Jason were always professional and friendly. Even though our sale was extremely difficult for many reasons the tram always communicated well via email and call. Aaron went above and beyond to communicate with other professionals & never minded our numerous calls and emails to help us on our way to selling our property.
Would definitely use Connells Kings Heath again, just not the solicitors recommended (which hopefully have been changed now).

Mega disappointed in Connells KH.
Do not even allow a viewing if you don't have an AIP/DEPOSIT over asking price? Your asking price may not be my offering price or the true house value?!!! Stupidly priced despite the clear fact that prices are inflated at present and houses similar to this are listed for substantially less with other agencies. What if the owner was happy to accept a little less? Dont care as its all about your personal commission. Shameful!
After many unanswered calls, a rude encounter with a bloke called Jason. As an EA u are not my mortgage advisor, you cannot rudely ask personal financial questions. Knowing I have an AIP and a good cash deposit is enough! His words "We don't take just anyone to house viewings" despite me having a good AIP and over 50k cash deposit.
Additionally, FYI IF I felt a house WAS actually worth asking price or more, I would be able to come up with more cash!
Definitely not going to bother enquiring with Connells again no matter how good a house may look, not worth dealing with such employees!!

Arron from connells came to value our house, we had already had two valuations however connells valuation was £10,000 more. He was very professional and new lots about the local area which impressed us. We then agreed a sale price £5,000 above our asking price meaning that we had gone with the original two agents we would have sold for £15,000 less. sale was very quick completed within 2 month and Billy was always there happy to help with any queries viewings ,negotiations and everything.

I cannot recommend Connells Kings Heath enough! The service provided by Billy in particular was incredible. Billy is extremely friendly, helpful, approachable and knowledgeable in his area and was always contactable whenever we needed him. He went above and beyond on a daily basis to push through the sale of our property quickly and efficiently whilst taking away as much of the stress away from us as possible. I cannot thank him enough for the service he provided along with all of the other lovely staff who put up with my daily phone calls.
Would definitely use Connells again in the future and highly recommend to anyone looking to sell their house!

When choosing an Estate Agent, I would thoroughly recommend having a chat with someone at Connells in Kings Heath.
We had already had other companies around to give us a valuation on our house, but Matt came round and was optimistic about selling it from the start. He even said we would get more than what the others said, and he was spot on.
Beth assisted us with viewings and we could call on either of them if needed.
There are online firms that have less fees, but we had the personal touch which for us, was priceless.

One star is too generous for this incompetent bunch of nitwits.
From the very beginning our experience with them was horrendous, when they or the equally terrible referencing service they use, TLC, repeatedly lost or forgot about paperwork that had been sent to them. Our guarantor spent a fortune sending items via Special Delivery more than once because Connells and TLC lost them or because they were too stupid to read what was in front of them in order to see that all the necessary details were covered in the first pieces of documentation sent. Every time they requested something, it was implied that it would complete the process and we could then move forward with renting our selected property, but then something else would be requested that they could and should have asked for in the first place.
Two days before we were set to sign the paperwork and pick up the keys, we were told we may not be able to move in when planned because the landlord had not yet signed his part of the agreement. It soon transpired that the reason the landlord had been unable to sign was that Connells had still not even sent the agreement through to him. They finally agreed that, under the circumstances, they would allow the landlord to sign in retrospect in order to allow us to move in as we had already booked removals, but there was no apology or remorse, and we were not told this for certain until about 3 hours before we were due to pick up the keys - and only then because we phoned them. There was a complete lack of urgency throughout the entire process.
On the day of the move, we received an email from Lauren at Kings Heath telling us our guarantor needed to visit his nearest branch with ID, and that this is usually done nearer the beginning of the process. This left us wondering why it hadn't been done when it should have been? Further to this, our guarantor's nearest branch was not just down the road, oh no, it was an hour and a half's drive in each direction! It is utterly ludicrous to expect someone of over 70 to drive that far with a couple of pieces of paper when they have already given you bank statements, pension statements and council tax bills to show who they are and what their income is.
The next several months were blissful as we had no contact with Connells. The landlord was lovely and it soon became clear that both he and we were happy to continue the tenancy privately in order to save paying Connells money for old rope. The landlord gave notice, and we received a letter to say that Connells would no longer be serving as management for the tenancy after a certain date. We should make no further rent payments to them, lest they be returned to us minus a £30 'processing' fee. Cue an email yesterday morning claiming we are in rental arrears. We are most assuredly *not* in arrears as the tenancy ended over a week ago, but once again Connells do not know what they are doing.
Upon phoning the Kings Heath branch to try and sort this out, my husband was told that Connells Kings Heath had been told by the landlord that he wished them to continue acting as managers until the end of the original tenancy agreement, which is due to finish at the end of this month. This is despite the many letters that have been sent to the branch by the landlord confirming that he understands the tenancy would end last month and he would be responsible for collecting rent from there on, and also despite the letter Connells themselves have sent to us saying the same thing.
I am at a complete loss with Connells. I have absolutely no faith in them whatsoever and I can't understand how they have stayed in business. They are rude, unprofessional, blasé about life-changing matters, and, frankly, completely useless. I would strongly advise anyone considering using them as letting agents or estate agents rethink and use someone else, as Connells seem to be the worst of the lot.
Edit: despite the comment from Connells below, no attempt was made to look into this matter and I never received a reply to the email they requested from me. All for show.

I recently arrived from South Africa for a year long fellowship and needed to find a house that was close to the hospital, fitted my budget and was suitable for dogs. Lauren was amazing. She was not perturbed by my numerous questions, nothing was ever too much trouble and she managed to get everything completed in record time so that I could move in before the Easter weekend. First time I used Connells Estate Agents and overall service was good. I dealt with Lauren, she was really helpful, she ensured we had everything we were looking for, process was quick and the service provided was great.
However, I have only given 4 stars as I am still waiting for the Let By sign to be taken from our front garden, having this sign it just shows that somebody has recently moved in. I have informed the agency and I am awaiting for the above mentioned to be removed.
I do recommend Connells and I will use them again in the future if I find myself in the situation where I am looking to purchase or rent a property.

Rented a house through this branch - worst rental experience my wife and I have ever had (and we've rented several times before).
The main person who was handling our application was in no rush to start the process, and then when it had been started we had so much hassle getting all of the checks done that it was looking like we'd have to put back the original date we'd been working to for moving in. This could have been made easier with some help and empathy from the staff at this branch, but that's not what happens here.
When we eventually got past the referencing stage we had around 3 weeks left to get everything sorted. We were told we'd have contracts emailed to us within days - didn't happen. We ended up having to get our new landlord to agree to let us move in as planned, and were still waiting for the contracts until the day after we moved in. And because an email address was entered wrong, one of the people who needed to sign something had to wait even longer. We were told that
this part of our sorry saga wasn't down to the staff in the branch, this one was the Connells admin team - but at least it shows it's not just the people you're speaking to in the office, oh no. It's the whole company who are totally incompetent.
I know it looks like I'm being harsh on the people in the office, as they were trying to help us move in on the date we'd planned, but that is countered by the fact that I asked for and was promised answers to questions I'd raised along the way, and I got absolutely nothing back. Plus, the amount of money you're expected to shell out means that I expect people to do what needs to be done, and to show me why they think their time is so valuable.
On the day we moved in, we had another email asking for more information to complete the records. Something that could have been asked for several weeks before, and that they expected someone to make a 100+ mile round-trip to provide. Again, no consideration given to what their thoughtlessness had resulted in, just an expectation that we do what they're asking as quickly as we possibly can.
So if you're considering going into a Connells - be it Kings Heath or somewhere else - do yourself a big favour and look elsewhere. Or at least go into an application knowing that the people you'll be paying an awful lot of money to, won't really care what happens along the way, until it comes to the money part. They're very well prepared when it comes to that.
Oh, and the inventory check that you pay over £100 for - make sure you check it very carefully - with ours they missed the water meter and had no reading from the end of the last tenancy.

After attempting this company 3 times and receiving extremely poor service everytime, from rearranging 20 minutes before a house viewing to getting booked onto the wrong house viewing. I have decided I won’t be going ahead with this company even if I find a house as if their service is unreliable now I wouldn’t be able to trust it in the future. It may well just have been me who has received this kind of service but unfortunately it has left me with a negative image of the company.

This company is an absolute joke! Claimed we was in rent arrears and when I went into the branch it turns out the payment was made on the correct dates using a different reference number. It turns out they have thousands of pounds they can't account for if people use a different reference number rather, than follow it up they keep it all mounting up in a pot for themselves! Basically criminal and their attitudes are disgusting and unprofessional! I suppose if u pay peanuts u get monkeys but they don't even deserve peanuts the jobs worth! Should change their name to conning because that's all they do to people!

Advertise dilapidated properties without even highlighting potential issues to tenants (current property on Millbrook roads roof has more tiles missing than present on the roof meaning it's going to leak like a sieve) also their fees are ridiculous.
Over 200 pounds for an agreement to be "prepared" and by prepared they mean inserting the date, names of Tennant and landlord and the property address.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. You'd be better off taking your chances of being scammed on Gumtree- at least you know you're going to get robbed on there.
