I can’t help but laugh at the reviews I’m reading. I have honestly thought I’d been suffering alone as a result of poor service received from this agency but alas I am not alone! My toilet flush button has been broken since January and it’s yet to be fixed we are now in September! Now my bathroom has a leak in it and I’ve been told not to shower in it so I’ve been using a friends bathroom or I shower at the gym or work. How ridiculous is it that I pay rent but I can’t use the facilities that come with the house. The appliances in the house have not been PAT tested since 2019! How is that even safe?!!! Property management is rubbish! Within one year of tenancy, we have had 3 property managers! From Thomas Hunter to Sully Tuft to Danny Pope none of them have been helpful. Leaders have made renting a nightmare and it’s so frustrating because i haven’t received any value for the money I pay. If I could give negative star I would! You need to do better.
I would appreciate if you do not reply to this with the same generic response you’ve been giving, I would prefer no response at all even. Just fix the issues at my house!

AVOID RENTING WITH LEADERS
We've been renting for over a decade, and Leaders Chester is by far the worst letting agency we've ever encountered. They have shown a complete disregard for tenants' well-being and concerns.
When we moved into our property (£1,500/month), it was in a disgraceful state, despite promises that it would be cleaned and prepared beforehand. From the very beginning, communication with the agency has been awful — emails go unanswered, and they're always "in a meeting." Deadlines are repeatedly missed, and issues are left unresolved.
After 7 months, we're still dealing with a leaky roof, severe damp, and a broken bathtub (among many others). Despite numerous complaints, nothing has been done, only empty apologies.
Please, save yourself the stress and rent elsewhere.

Would've awarded a minus one star if possible. We asked for a viewing on 4 September 2024, submitted tons of positive information. We called again today, 30 September 2024, to ask when we can expect
a viewing date. The lettings agent informed us that no viewing dates areavailable as yet and he will most definitely let us know when viewings open. Ten minutes later we received a phone call from a different
lettings agent informing us that viewings had taken place a week ago and the property been rented. What a terrible disappointment and an awful let down by the letting agent.

How they have a 4.2 star rating is beyond belief. If I could give negative stars I would. I do not even know where to begin with this estate agent. We have had nothing but issue after issue with them, they are practically unresponsive, they do not respond to issues reported through their repairs portal, they do not respond to emails relating to issues reported through their repair portal and every time we speak to them it's like brand new information to them even though we have records and paper trails proving we have discussed these issues over and over. We had a full blown leak through the kitchen from the apartment upstairs and Leaders could not have cared less in the slightest. Water was dripping through our electrics and was reported through their correct channels and we didn't even get so much as a phone call. I went upstairs and spoke to the tenants upstairs to stop the leak and they got it repaired on their end but we were left with a damp stained kitchen which never got resolved. Upon other minor repairs which weren't addressed they have just been tedious to communicate with and sometimes it felt like we were talking to a brick wall. The best day of our lives came when our tenancy ended a couple of weeks ago and we were finally free from Leaders but somehow the nightmare didn't end there as now we are being chased by their credit company for rent payment when we aren't even tenants anymore. How can we owe rent when we literally handed the keys back to the Chester branch in person? It now looks like we are in rent arrears which is absurd and we don't know if it will affect our credit score when it isn't even our fault in the first place. Been told it's an error as it's been put through the system wrong (a Leaders classic) I doubt it was ever put through in the first place as I don't think anyone knows what they are doing or how to do their job. Will continue to chase until they sort this out as I do not trust them to be left to their own devices as nothing else was ever sorted. Do not touch this estate agents with a barge pole. Incompetent is not a strong enough word.

Do not go to this agency. They would not care to fix the problems within the property even if it would lead to health and safety issue. They would only treat nice to get a room with them. After that, I was left with an absolute negligence no matter how serious the maintenance issue is, even if it becomes a threat to your safety.

I would not recommend this estate agency to any tenants who are looking to be treated respectfully.
We have had no contact with our landlord which is OK but the attention to the problems we've had since moving in has been ludicrous. We are tenants and Leaders have a right to acknowledge this and to see to problems in a timely manner. They have not.
The commitment to property management is horrific. We reached out to let our Property Manager know (and the regional director/manager too, in cc) and they took over 23 days to actually get a contractor out to even come and look let alone fix it. We reported this to customer care and they promised they would get back by July 16 and we are now at July 30th with no response. If you are looking to be treated as an actual human with the right to be treated with ethics and decency - do not go with any rented home that is with Leaders.
We asked if we could simply move our rental payment date to the end of the month because that's when anyone in the UK are paid. They have charged us an additional £400 fee out of nowhere to be able to move this date.
Since we have been in here we have also had the following infrastructure problems:
* A hole in our toddlers daughters bedroom floor the moment we moved in that still to this day has not been fixed. This could worsen if she dropped something on it.
* A leak from the bathroom to the kitchen that was reported a year prior and never noted to us. This was fixed by contractors (after 23 days of waiting) who made a hole in our kitchen ceiling. This hole has still not been filled by a new contractor and put back correct! The ceiling could fall in at any moment.
* As a result of the overdue contractor visit to fix the leak we had all of our kitchen electric appliances damaged (this was confirmed by the contractor who came out) including our dishwasher and our washing machine. We are still awaiting the contractor to return with the missing part for the dishwasher for it to actually work. It's been over 2 weeks.
Please - if you want your sanity don't go with Leaders. Especially not Leaders Chester. The Property Manager has been shameless unapologetic about this experience. The lack of humility for this experience especially when we have a toddler is honestly so unfair.

I would not recommend using this estate agent. They have consistently not performed maintenance including taking over three weeks to get anyone to fix the heating in winter. They have also failed to provide an accurate checkout report or meter readings at the end of tenancy for over a month now. I would never rent with them again.
They also take months to return any undisputed deposit and repeatedly fail to do their jobs

My partner rented a flat in Chester city centre after relocating whilst I stayed in our home elsewhere visiting from time to time. The oven door was hanging off and eventually broke, the fridge was a health risk, this was brought to your attention in September yet nothing was done by the time he moved in February, the main door doesn’t close properly and is frequently left open whilst the second door which is a fire door remained unfixed as of when he moved. 6 weeks later and despite calls and visits to the office his deposit has not been repaid despite an apology and assurance that this would be rectified within 3 days

I would not reccomend letting a property through this agency under any circumstances. We've rented a property via leaders for 4 years, and they have been nothing but troublesome and nothing has ever been sorted without constant chasing on our part. We reported maintenence issues over 15 times at one point before anything was dealt with, despite it being very dangerous. Even then, that was only due to constant pestering by us. You get told to report on the app which is never actioned. Our "property manager" would change every few months, each one just as bad as the last. At one point, Leaders had told our landlord that they had been "chasing us for arrears" when we had infact been overpaying our rental ammount. Now that we are at the end of our tenancy Leaders "lost all documentation" of our pet deposit, which after researching they should have actually returned to us 3 years ago when the new law came in but they "forgot"
They also lost our original check in report. We asked them to look into the "lost" dog deposit over 3 weeks ago, along with sending proof of payment and dates via bank statements. We still haven't got any of our deposit back despite the landlord (who luckily we have contact with) stating he is happy for it to be released. Every time you call you get the same "its being dealt with" when in fact its not. No updates on depositary, no contact from the branch. Truly awful experience from the day we started renting with this branch. I would not reccomend as a tenant or a landlord. The praise I will give is that head office are very helpful in trying to assist you with resolving issues with the Chester branch.

We were sent an e-mail stating our deposit was no longer protected under the TDS scheme which was a little confusing, as we were still renting the property. Spoke to Sully who was our Property Manager who quickly & efficiently looked into it. He called me back within 5 minutes with an answer and followed it up with a further email that explained what was happening. Brilliant Service.

When I did get through to request a viewing they would not offer this and directed me to a 'virtual' viewing instead. Slightly better than photos but still not enough to decide to go ahead and take the letting.

I rent a property and had a pest issue. I spoke to a member of staff called Sully at the Chester branch who was extremely friendly, diligent and professional and went over and above. He did a number of things which I really appreciate from a customer service perspective - he wasn't actually assigned to my property and the other person was off, but instead of just passing the issue on for when they came back he dealt with it himself, and while he made the various arrangements he kept contacting me directy and updated me as we went along . He also escalated the issue due to me having small children in the house. I felt like our welfare was important to him and I was looked after and in safe hands. Just wanted to let Sully know that his hard work is greatly appreciated.

Edit: leaders are cons... so is the landlady I got, thw living room ceiling collapsed and i was left in a dirty stinking flat for weeks without anything been sorted, I gave video documentation of me saying I'm leaving there also multiple phone calls, and I am now being charged almost £1000 to leave there.. I have mental disabilities and they have taken FULL advantage of me........ as soon as they get your money your nothing to them. Just regular payment Saskia deserves a medal for all the help she has given me.. everytime I have called up all the staff members have been so pleasant to talk too.. everyone's been amazing.. especially saskia.. really amazing as to how much she helped me, chasing up every step of the way you make sure I had a lovely home to move into even though I didn't give her much time to get me moved in.. she made it possible... definitely deserves a Christmas bonus ????????

Absolutely shocking. After checking on the website for Chester I rang the telephone number provided. The gentleman took all the information and then stated this was the Manchester office therefore I have been misled I will need to go through all this again when the Chester office contact me
He said he would email the information to Chester and copy it to me.
That was on Monday no email no phone call heard nothing since.
I wish to rent an executive two bedroomed apartment with parking within the city walls and they cannot be bothered to reply. It will let immediately however it will not be with them. If they treat you like this before engaging them what sort of service is the tenants and myself as the landlord going to get afterwards my advice is go somewhere else I have.

Worst estate agent I’ve ever dealt with. Don’t seem to know what they’re doing, don’t check the facts or terms in their own tenancy agreements. Always side with landlords and have no common courtesy or understanding of the tenants.
Forever having to chase them or get in touch with them for information. Yet they’re the first to get in touch with you if it involves more money for them - avoid Leaders.

What a great experience. Unfortunately, the agent, we were with sold the business to them. From the beginning, there was always no one answered the phone. Now, it's often missing out on emails even they reply but they miss the questions. Wish my previous agent didn't sold the company to them!
PS: I am not complaining about the fireplace. Not sure where in my comments makes you think that it's about the fireplace. The inspection dates always changed or arrived too early. The communication was bad. If you really want to know what to improve then should listen not assume.

I have been a loyal customer of Leaders and their forerunner Temples for over twenty years, with multiple properties as a Landlord.
Their Lettings department are good and I exclude them from this review.
Their sales operation is another matter; and how the chap I dealt with got Senior in his job title is beyond me. It has always been the same with him, over a number of years, calls not returned, then just a cursory email - and that is after multiple efforts to chase a response. I didn't get the response I wanted, in the way I wanted, but how it took a week for him to even bother to respond is beyond me.
If they take that time, it begs the question how long it will take for them to respond to real buyer enquiries. I use two other agents in Chester for my sales; and had hoped to give Leaders a go - but never again in respect of sales. Chronic response, from a similarly chronic organisation.
My recommendation, avoid their Sales office, Lettings are just fine. But if you are selling a property look elsewhere and save the mither.
Wright Marshall, Ricketts and Cavendish are the best for sales; and the latter Cavendish handle lettings too, but no personal experience of their lettings just yet.

Not all estate agents are the same. Most that we have dealt with have been old fashioned in their approach to selling houses. We would ring and asked to be added to a mailing list to be the first to hear about new properties, but to be told by the estate agents, that theres not really much point, best to just register with rightmove. We have viewed houses with some companies who turn up late, are very unprofessional, know absolutely nothing about the house, as they are just there to show us round, leaving us wondering why people pay them thousands for their services. Then we met Alun at Leaders, Chester. He is a breath of fresh air and is by far the best estate agent we have come across. He is honest, friendly, professional and trustworthy. He is everything that you would want when undertaking such a life changing decision. He goes above and beyond. He proactively contacted everyone from their mailing list that was looking for a property like ours before it had been listed on rightmove. He booked an open house and our house was sold with days. Alun kept us updated at every point throughout the process. We would highly recommend him. He has years of experience and cannot be compared to any of the other estate agents we have dealt with. He's not like other estate agents, he's amazing.

It was a pleasure to deal with Helen - very friendly, professional and customer orientated.
We initially show interest in one property but she went above and beyond showing more than the tin suggested. Despite even our circumstances changing, she didn't give up and contacted the landlords to eventually find something suitable which we were happy with. The whole process was very straightforward with the customer orientation being present from the first moment.
Finding the properties and dealing with every bit and bob could be a headache, but as proven in this case, it could be very straightforward and painless.
Unlike other agencies( I unfortunately had to deal with)Helen(Perhaps the whole team in Laders) actually tried to find a middle ground for their clients and for the tenants. My experience dealing with other agencies, well at least a few, is that they are happy to pit you against others fighting over bloody house and eventually don't give a d or even the basic approach is lacking. I would recommend the Chester branch most definitely.

Beware zero deposit scheme. This charges you over £40 monthly and this amount is not refundable. You are still liable for damages. I was effectively barred from renting if I didn’t sign up to their scheme. Unethical or illegal? I don’t know. Check out other review platforms. I have delayed writing this review for a while now, but it has got to the point where I have no other choice in order for something to be done. We have only rented with Leaders Chester for a couple of months now, and it has been the most stressful 2 months of our lives. We were firstly put on a No Deposit Scheme, where you pay a direct debit every month, only to find out you don't get any of this back, and they can send you a invoice at the end of the tenancy for anything they like, as you haven't paid a deposit so you're not actually protected by anything. We then decided we didn't want to do this, and they told us to wait until we moved in to request moving onto the normal deposit and paying this in full as 'its easier to do that way' APPARENTLY. We also got this in writing so they couldn't go back on it.
So we sent at least 10 emails once we had moved in, with no response, requesting to pay the full deposit as promised. When we spoke to property management, someone from their team actually said "we have never moved anyone from the no deposit option to a normal deposit, who said you could do this", we were lost for words at this point, eventually after about 5 phone calls we were sent the invoice to pay the deposit which we did straight away, it has now been 27 days since we paid the deposit, and we haven't received any sort of confirmation our deposit has been protected, and they are only allowed 30 days by law to pay this into the Deposit Protection Scheme, so if this isn't paid in by this weekend, we are taking this to court. We have spoken to Leaders about 15 times this week, oh and guess what, nothing has been done, we are still waiting. Not to mention the 5 emails we sent 2 weeks ago which no one even bothered to acknowledge. IT GETS BETTER, we were told yesterday to send proof of the payment (which we did a month ago) as they cant locate the money...wow. Even though 3 people from Leaders acknowledged receiving it. I will update this review after the end of this weekend if our deposit hasn't been sorted out, as we will be seeking legal action on Monday if this is not resolved. If you don't want to go grey extremely quickly, and feel like you have aged 50 years in the space of 8 weeks, not to mention the permanent migraines as speaking to their staff is enough to send you round the bend, I would avoid going anywhere near this company, honestly, don't waste your time and rent with somebody else. If I could turn back time I wouldn't make the same mistake.

I have recently purchased a property which I am converting to a HMO in Chester. I called into the branch on Thursday and I was greeted by Francesca. She was extremely knowledgable about multiple occupancy letting, and spent time with me explaining what changes I need to make to the property so that I am compliant. She also made me aware of something called an Article 4 directive and thankfully having researched this today my property does not fall within this area . Her advice has been invaluable as this is my first larger buy-to-let property, and thanks to her I now don't feel like so much of a novice. I will look forward to contacting Leaders when my property is ready to come to the market in the Autumn.

The team at the Chester Lower Bridge St. office are brilliant. Whilst trying to find a place to rent for the first time in Chester they were engaged straight away, found us plenty of options to look at, and worked us quickly through the whole process to enable us to move into our chosen property as quickly as possible. Since then, we have had a couple of issues with a big leak in the bathroom. As soon as we reported it they reacted straight away, getting an excellent plumber out on the same day, and worked with us and the landlord to get repairs to the plumbing, shower and flooring done as quickly as possible. When you don't own the property you're living in, it complicates things when inevitably something goes wrong, but the team at Leaders have been a great help throughout. Many thanks to Emily, Emma, Fran, Karen, Mel, Simon and Helen. Can't recommend them enough.

I would not recommend using leaders in Chester, there staff where unprofessional throughout and got annoyed if you chased them for an update which you had to do as they wouldn't give you one otherwise. They managed to even mess up the chain by not realising there was an additional house which they didn't informed of the moving date. Leading to extra costs for everyone. Initially I contacted the Lettings business on a recommendation regarding letting my property as a professional let. Fran gave me really good advice on what tenants are looking for and what not to spend money on in preparation. She also gave me evidence of similar rental rates in the area and offered a competitive rate for a full managed service.
In the end I decided to sell the property and the team in the sales office were equally professional and provided a realistic sale price. I had 4 viewings and 2 offers within the week of going on the market. They vetted and checked their funds and credentials so I could decide who was the most proceedable.
All my communications with them were friendly and professional and very helpful in liasing with the buyer.
I completed last week 4 weeks and 4 days from going on the market.
I'd happily recommend them for lettings or sales.

I've rented with several agents (Reeds Rains, Thornton's) and have not been as disappointed as then with Leaders Chester. They're fine when trying to get you to rent but once you're in the property, the maintenance and tenant services are very poor. I reported a problem with my shower door being broken - a plumber came to have a look at it and recommended it be replaced; however this was several weeks ago and nothing has been done and have not heard back. My oven and my fridge both broke on separate occasions. I was informed that these were non-emergency issues so when my food went off and I could not cook for a few days -they would not reimburse the costs. My toilet also had a leak and flood whilst I was on holiday - I immediately got an emergency plumber in as I did not know of their emergency services at that time. I paid for the plumber myself but did not get a reimbursement from them - even when I tried to keep the flat from being flooded. Overall POOR SERVICES. Please rent from another agent.

This was so nice for me to meet the people of Leaders. I didn't know how everything worked for me to rent as staying here for business. I called in to the office to ask a few questions and was greeted by a very friendly and extremely busy team. They advised me of what i need to do, what documents i would need and i was introduced to members of the property management team who advised me they were also there to help once i had moved in if i had any issues.
The phones never stopped ringing while i was there so i do thank them for giving me time.

Do NOT rent or buy from Leaders Chester. Absolute chaos throughout the entire experience. Take pictures of EVERYTHING when you move in and make sure the dates are on everything. They did not have an inventory for our property (unbelievable) and thought it best to blame us for all the flaws that were there when we moved in. So unprofessional. I suggest Leaders Chester hire a branch manager, start fresh with staff and get everybody trained properly so that they can answer simple questions without the response of “uuuuurrrrm”. Will be telling everyone we know about this experience.

Being relatively new to buying a property I was optimistic and a bit apprehensive at the same time. When we had an offer accepted through Leaders,and received a memorandum of sale - myself and my family were really excited. I explained I was newish to the 'scene' and often asked what the next process was. Firstly we were encouraged to have leaders 'in house' solicitors which I originally agreed to however ,was to learn that the quotes were incorrect and then inflated on agreement. Also classed as 'in house' is based in Leicester so I would not recommend this service to anyone. However contacts were made and property valuations arranged. With Chester being a small community , we got wind that viewings were still commencing on the property. I spoke to leaders to challenge this and was updated that the vendor was still happy to have the property 'available' and would do so unitll contracts were exchanged. Call it naive or ethical , I was under the impression once a sale was accepted this was just that. Being new to the process it would have been amazing to have this communicated to us , sadly this was not.Only three weeks later from having a memorandum of sale - we were informed of another offer on the property and advised to postpone our booked evaluation, that was subsequently happening the day after. To my disbelief I challenged this and felt that feeding back to other inerested parties could have been met with a 'sorry a sale is agreed on that' sadly- customer service and decency are not evident at Leaders. We invested time , money and faith in Leaders and sadly let down. My belief is it all happens for a reason and I would not reccomend Leaders or use them again.

They say you can’t choose your family. That’s also true with landlords. These guys are real see you next Tuesdays. Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. I wasn’t going to qualify my statement but I figured I should.
1) A large piece of pine furniture was left in one of the bedrooms despite the house being described as unfurnished on website. When challenged and asked to remove, Leaders declined and explained that it came with the house. Description of the house was conveniently changed on inventory which was sent to me a few weeks after moving in.
2) It took an age for the garden gate to be repaired after the storms in January and even longer for a garden fence panel to be replaced.
3) They’re extremely strict during check out inspection and attribute every little defect to the last people living there. My very very strong advice is to photograph everything. Make very detailed lists of everything because expect a lot of issues to be identified when you leave.

I'm very happy with the service I recive from Leaders in Chester. I have just had tenants renewing there tenancy and Simon Jones made sure it went well even getting me more money per month on the rent. I'm always keeped well imformed by the new property managment team in the office who are looking after 4 of my properties. On the rare occation I have to call the office I know I can talk to Simon or one of the team to sort things out in a timely manner.

I wouldn’t usually write reviews, however I was extremly pleased with the customer service I recieved throughout my experience with Leaders. I viewed a property on behalf of my son a month or so ago, who was looking to buy his first house. A young gentlemen named Tom who showed me round was extremely helpful and charismatic. For someone who said he had only been in the job for a few months, he oozed with experience. I am sure Leaders will have a fight on their hands trying to keep him as he has a bright future ahead of him. My Girlfriend and I have rented a property that was managed by a company that lenders acquired.
At first we were very nervous regarding the merger and how it would affect us.
To our delight Kevin Swire and Simon Jones from the acquired company moved with the company to leaders. We have now been dealing with Simon and Kevin for two years and they have been fantastic.
They have always attended the property when requested. Any issues with the property have been addressed quickly and effectively. We have made various requests in terms of upgrades to furniture and fittings these have also been relayed to the landlord and they have always supported our claims in a way that has benefited both parties.
When ever we have been in contact they have also responded and been extremely helpful.
It has been a real pleasure to work with two true professionals that clearly care about their work, tenants and properties.
I would recommend any body that has the opportunity to work with Kevin and Simon do so.

We have just exchanged on a house purchased through Leaders. We liaised with Alan and Lee and found them to be helpful, honest and extremely resilient at handling complexities involved in our long chain. I have found buying a house in a long chain to be very stressful but Lee and Alan have always been ready to take on lots of challenges and it did give us a lot of comfort knowing that they have been doing everything that they can to help us. Lee has been consistently reassuring. On another note, I would recommend using any solicitors that they recommend - it is in their interests for exchanges and completions to go through as quickly as possible and a big part of this comes down to using competent solicitors. Overall, Lee and Alan were knowledgable, personable, resilient and very good at what they do. More importantly, in our process they worked with a high level of integrity at all times. We have trusted them all through this process.

I had occasion to contact Leaders recently about a problem I had and to be honest I was not very confident it would be sorted easily. OMG was I wrong. I was lucky that Mel (property manager) answered my call, listened to exactly what the problem was and took action straight away. I got a call every day updating me on the situation and it made me feel so relieved knowing someone was on my case. Mel sorted everything out promptly, efficiently and in an extremely friendly way. She is a major asset to that business and they are very lucky to have her working there. Thank you Mel :)

This is my first experience of rented property. The process has been stressful, and difficult. Getting through to the lettings team is challenging, call back requests have been ignored. Once let agreed, I couldn't gain access to the property for a second viewing because of 'lack of resource' ?? - no TV ariel, no cooker, front door won't lock, electricity and gas meters in arrears - Not a great start

Terrible experience. At one point during the tenancy my flat flooded, they took days to respond. Thankfully, the Landlord was responsive. They often didn't turn up to scheduled flat inspections (which I had taken the time off work to attend). Further, on ending the tenancy, they tried to change the tenancy end date (without agreement) and make me liable for additional council tax, utility bills and rent. The staff were rude and unfriendly. It was only after threatening to raise a complaint with the tenancy protection scheme, raising multiple complaints with the Branch Manager and, eventually, HQ that they relented. When they did, it was positioned as if they were doing a favor for me. The reality is, I believe they realized that they would have lost the case at arbitration due to their own unethical practices and the fact that I had built up and documented all of the relevant evidence. I don't believe Leaders can be trusted and was very close to initiating legal action against them.
They were absolutely incompetent at all stages. I also had a discussion with the Landlord who felt similarly about their service prior even to the issues I had experienced.
It's also interesting that most of the '5 Star Reviews' are from reviewers who have never given anything else a review before. I can only echo the other negative complaints about the organisation.
What I would say is that some of the ladies working in the branch were very friendly when I was in there but I think they worked on the sales side of the business as opposed to lettings.

Chaos and incompetence from start to finish. We were unfortunate enough to rent through Leaders for 2 years and from the start they were absolutely useless. The peak of this was when they made a mistake in our contract and tried to charge us for the new one. It took a number of calls and escalating this to their lettings manager before it was resolved, after which I still received a call from their London HQ trying to charge me! They seem incapable of communicating with each other which means you end up having the same conversation with several members of their staff before anything happens. They just ended up being a very irritating middle man between us and our lovely landlords and both parties are very happy to be shot of them! I would recommend keeping a record of all communications with them, ideally in writing because you can't rely on or trust these guys one bit. Hopeless.

Possibly the worst letting agent I have come across so far (and moving around the country, I have had to deal with quite a few).
The lack of communication is simply appalling. On phone calls they will not provide and answer/information, asking to email them just so they can ignore all the emails!
We received all kind of wrong information when moved in and unfortunately have never received a straightforward answer.

An absolutely pathetic showcase of disorganisation, inefficiency... and even stroppy attitude! I'm not going to name and shame anyone, simply out of my own decency, so I will call them X, Y, and Z.
I contacted Leaders when I was still living in London a few weeks ago, keen on viewing a property in Chester that they had listed on Rightmove. They then rang a day or 2 afterwards, to confirm that I wanted to go ahead with the viewing (obviously I did, else I would not have bothered to book it!). I also explained to them that I was short on time, because I HAD to move by a specific date: I'd started working in Chester, and my company was paying a hotel room for me only for 2 weeks.
I received an email from them, not long after that phone call, advising me that the viewing was confirmed, and "X" would be the agent showing us the property. My wife shows up at the property (I was working), but "Y" turns up to do the viewing. This agent fumbles 30 minutes with the keys, before ultimately giving up, as she is unable to unlock the door. Naturally, my wife has other viewings, so she has to now factor in returning to this property again, once they sort the keys.
This was at around midday. We didn't hear anything back for the rest of the day. At around lunchtime the next day, I rang Leaders to find out if "X" or "Y" had sorted the keys, and if the viewing was going ahead. I was told that they were out to lunch, and that I would be rung back as soon as they were back in the office. At about 4:30pm, not having heard anything, I rung Leaders AGAIN.
This time, I got some stroppy cow "Z" who, almost indignantly, patronised me for calling again, saying, "We'd have rung you if we'd sorted anything. We'll call you when we do." Mind you, I'd told them repeatedly I was in a hurry. I'd now lost 2 days with this useless, disorganised estate agent. I just answered, "Fine," and decided I was done with them.
I was seriously running out of time now, so I had to pass this property up, and take another one which wasn't really what we wanted, but was ready to go. However, my wife, being the amazing woman that she is, was able to scout that ANOTHER estate agent was also handling the property. It was late now, but first thing in the morning, she rang them... two hours later, she'd done the viewing and was back in their office, and we were getting all the documentation in to them for the vetting.
It was Friday, at the 11th hour, that we now had a new glimmer of hope for this house we wanted. Weekend went by, and... long story short, by Wednesday we were vetted, Thursday I paid the rent and the deposit, and Friday (my last day!!) we moved in... at £45 a month LESS rent than Leaders had the property on the market for.
Oh, and did I mention that we were able to open the door just fine? Go figure what in God's name "Y" was doing... (by the way, they never did ring us back about having sorted keys... not even a week later).
I wouldn't recommend this agency even if someone were homeless. They're disorganised, inefficient, and someone in there (at least one) is downright rude.

I was originally a landlord with Prescott hall in Chester where the service was out standing. Over the last 6 months since Leaders have taken over the customer service and support from the team has gone down. I would phone the office and some one would have to call me back 'that never happen'. I was in the stage of taking my properties to another agent in Chester until early this week i have a very polite gentleman (did not get his name but only been with the company for 2 weeks) call me to apologize for the time its taken to react to my problems and work that was out standing at my property i rent out. This member of staff has reassured me that my property will be well looked after and that he will make sure all queries are answered with in 24hr where possible.
This member of staff was very polite and efficient and has sorted my queries out today.

By far the worst property rental company I have ever dealt with. A number of issues were encountered during our 1 year and 6 month tenancy:
Issue 1: Leader's didn't tell us that the previous tennants had not paid their last two months rent when showing us around the property. If we knew this was the case we would have never looked at the propery. Three days before we were meant to move in the previous tennants still had not vacated the premises. It appeared that the issue had only been recognised in the final week before we were meant to move in. If the tennant didn't leave then we would be homeless. Leader's had already taken part of our fees and informed us we wouldn't get these back if we went elsewhere. Tennant in the end did leave 2 days before we moved in. When we moved in the property had not been properly cleaned with sticky kitchen cupboards etc.
Issue 2: Sending letters to the wrong address.
Issue 3: Fuse box issue caused the burglar alarm to be set off. We had not been told the code so we rung Leader's who also didn't know the code. They said they would contact the landlord and in the meantime we had to turn all power off to front of the house. This lasted a day or two while Leader's claimed they were waiting for landlord confirmation to send out contractor to fix. We got bored of waiting and text the landlord who told us she hadn't been contacted by Leader's.
Issue 4: At the beginning of our tenancy the pipe underneath the sink was leaking. We let Leader's know however it took a month or two before plumber was sent to fix the problem.
Issue 5: Toilet cistern broke on a Wednesday night with water constantly pouring through an overflow pipe in to the back-garden. Couldn't find the stop-tap (found later behind a pannel that had been nailed shut next to the front door). Rang Leader's on the Thursday morning to ask for a plumber to be sent out. Plumber didn't end up coming till the Saturday morning when I rang Leader's and said we were scared the kitchen was going to flood.
On top of the 5 issues I have identified above there were a number of others.

Very poor communication and customer service. Jayne the assistant manager unable to provide clear details on why Leaders has provided property to persons not named on the tenancy agreement. Paid for fully managed service and Leaders did not even notify council and energy providers of new tenant. Keep away, there are plenty of estate agents offering a much better service in the area.

Oh yeh so for a month now ive been trying to get a fridge freezer and kept begging the agency at chester to get me a fridge befor christmas because some of my family will come round who celebrate christmas and this person goes ok landlord will give you 150 quid go and pick it up,like im some kind of a dog...i have never missed a single payment in 9months being with leaders and today they send me a letter the rent is overdue by 160quid!HELLO! YOU GUYS GAVE ME THAT FOR A FRIDGE DINGDONG!REMEMBER.....on top of that i rang them today and asked for a manager,the lady replies oh the manager doesent work here anymore so i said can i speak to someone in charge she said there is no one here...so when i said THIS is taking the Piss she rudely started shouting and saying dont swear at me blah blah blah.....did i swear at her,she dont even understand english properly......Luckily i rang the HEADOFFICE IN WORTHING FOR LEADERS and they said they will take action.....when i explained i had to chuck 100quid worth of food and everyday im throwing food away they were shocked.....
This lady is called Laura be careful of her she is bad for buisness,rude,arrogant...i phoned last time for a bee hive problem she said do it urself when the bloody contract says dont touch any of the building stuff.....
Reccommended so many people for this place now im actually regretting it...not everyone is bad the lady who got me the house was so friendly so i chose leaders,all the good staff have left i wonder why....
Honestly speaking Leaders@chester is like an everlasting nightmare that never goes away...honestly Leaders is a great company from how i knew it but these staff these days giving the company a really bad name,its a shame really...

The most incompetent and disinterested lettings team I have ever dealt with. From prior to move in date, during the 6 month tenancy, and until over a month after moving out when I finally received my deposit back, I experienced nothing but poor customer service, terrible communication, and absolutely no action taken on property maintenance issues raised. Will not be renting with them again, and would discourage others from doing so.

Worst agency i've ever encountered- it is the type you hear horror stories about. Was going to write a long story of it all but all i'll say it is took them 2 months to fix my shower so i could get hot water because cowboy builders did my flat up in a rush. As an agency they should have not accepted my flat. I pay 715 a month. Along with forcing me into a 12 month contract instead of a 6 [They waited till the day i actually sent the deposit over to tell me that it was a 12 month tenancy so no choice, and by this time i had travelled 5 hours from Devon with all my belongings to move in that week, was staying with a friend, and signed all the documents]
And i have never met a company that is so disorganized. You'll have to keep phoning everyday straight for two weeks and tell 6 people the same thing to find that the previous 5 never jotted your major issue down. All the documents they send you to sign are all fault and incorrect, they tried to write one that said i was to pay the next 6 months in full which was not the agreement. Every document you get WILL be faulty and have to be corrected and resent so please read them or risk getting conned. I've had a maintenence person randomly use leaders keys to not even KNOCK but to burst into my flat [a 21 year old terrified girl ready to call the police] whilst i am naked in the bath. The flat fittings having been an absolute wreck even lights just hanging off walls wardrobes falling apart my shower screwed because cowboy builders did the work in a day or so before i moved in- i saw it before and it was a mess. I SHOULD BE REFUNDED RENT FOR NOT HAVING A SHOWER THAT WORKED FOR 2 BLOODY MONTHS AS IT WAS BOTH LEADERS AND THE LANDLORDS FAULT AND THE MASSIVE WATER DAMAGE IN MY BATHROOM IS ALSO YOUR FAULT LEADERS!!! Leaders said it is the landlords fault which is true but they should also not accept or let a tenant live there if it is in such a bad condition they can't take a warm shower. Leaders are entirely to blame. I'm self employed, I wouldn't sell something that was completely messed up on just because the messing up was done by someone else and sell it onto someone. And also saying they could take some of my 1.5k deposit if anything is wrong with the flat at the end of the tenancy when it was turned from squalor overnight into a beautiful looking place and they messed up on every single thing because of it. Luckily i love my flat and it has become my home despite all the things i've had to get sorted and have no plans to move soon, but unluckily that means I am stuck with my letting agents, being Leaders. I am not dissing the personality of the team as they are all lovely and polite, but do not be bought by the nice personalities. PLEASE. Avoid this place like the plague. All you have to do is look them up to see a 1/5 on two different very popular rating sites. I will be adding my own soon sadly.
I'm very sorry Leaders but your branch has been absolutely shocking and has shocked both my friends and family who've witnessed all of this as well. I'm genuinely shocked how incompetent and unprofessional this has been. And you will definitely not be getting a penny of my hard earned deposit when i do move on.

This letting agent is completely incompetent, terrible service, they haven't got a clue what they are doing. They do not return deposits in a timely fashion and make no apologies for this. Every agreement they send to be signed is incorrect. I have never actually dealt with such an incapable firm before.... stay clear and don't waste your money on such terrible service.

Can't recommend the team enough. Several years with the rental team looking after us. They were always friendly and easy to deal with.
More recently dealing with the sales team, the staff were always on top of their game, chasing information and following up details, when we couldn't. Renting and then selling a house from abroad was made easy by the Leaders team. I wouldn't hesitate in sharing my experiences with others looking for a friendly local agent.

Could it get any worse? From lack of communication, problems with contracts, even being outright lied to by the lettings manager; it has consistently been one poor experience after another. I can only hope any future properties I am interested in are listing with other agents; as I'll never use Leaders again.
