We recently sold our property with Ashtons Harpenden, and they turned a very stressful process into a much easier one! From the initial valuation to the day we handed over the keys, the team were brilliant, particularly Greg, Jonny and Ryan. But that said, no matter which member of the team we were dealing with, the service was excellent. Viewing feedback and progress updates were given frequently, and it was always easy to get hold of someone if needed. Would highly recommend Ashtons for any future property services.

Colin and the team managed our property extremely well while we went away for 12 months. As it’s our family home and not a buy-to-let business for us, they understood the importance of our needs during our time away and for return.
Unfortunately the tenant didn’t quite keep up to their end of the bargain so there was a lot of remedial work once we got back - but Colin and Ashtons went above and beyond to get everything ready for our arrival.

We found our dream home through Ashtons Hitchin but for most of the purchase process we dealt with Rebecca at Ashtons Harpenden, who could not have been more helpful, proactive and genuinely just lovely.
Because of a long chain that included one frankly very rude estate agent who tried to harass us and others, our purchase could have been an absolute nightmare. Instead, we stayed patient while Rebecca chased for updates all the way up the chain and kept things moving along wherever humanly possible. She would contact us about the latest news without being prompted, which seems like such a small thing but really mattered when you felt like you might be stuck in a chain forever and maybe no one will ever tell you if it'll ever end because you're just the buyers at the bottom of the chain, not anyone's paying clients. Instead, we definitely felt supported throughout; Rebecca was proof you can be professional and focused, but still warm and empathetic.

It's a highly competitive local market and as it was the first time we were both selling and buying a property, entering the process was extremely stressful for our family. Having now completed, I can only say that we feel extremely fortunate to have put our transaction together with Ashtons. Everyone we dealt with at Ashtons were extremely professional but it was the personal approach from Greg and Joe that really made the difference. Initially, I was very impressed with Joe’s knowledge of the market, and the long term relationship built with my mother over the years. Joe had lined-up potential buyers for this unusual property, and when the time was right it was a very quick process through viewings and offers, in fact, the property didn’t even make it to market.

Ashtons in Harpenden are a fantastic agency who helped us to buy our dream home. From the moment we first viewed the property with a very friendly, personal and professional agent we knew it was the one!
As we still needed to put our own flat in London on the market Ashtons helped to keep us proactively informed throughout as to other possible interest in the property. We were fortunate to receive an offer ourselves whilst abroad and Greg was amazing throughout, making himself always available to discuss and advise to the point where we had an offer accepted!
Through no fault of Ashtons we unfortunately lost our first buyer due to a change in circumstances which put us into a stressful situation. Fortunately we managed to secure a new buyer within a few days and Rebecca subsequently helped to contact all of our chain and reassure me same day that all was fine, a huge relief!
Finally we had a few teething issues in the run up to exchange - throughout this period the Ashtons team and again Rebecca helped to communicate and resolve things through to a successful exchange - to say we were over the moon would be an understatement!
A huge thank you to the whole team at Ashtons who we cannot recommend highly enough.

So, I am a Tennent at a property Ashtons are selling. I overheard the Viewing guide tell the buyer in not so many words that the neighbour will be happy when I move out.
His reply was that it was the buyer who said this, even though you can hear the viewing guide saying it.
I complained to the Branch Manager Joe Wilkes, this is the reply I received.
" I am sorry for any distress caused but as my mother used to say, ‘sticks and stones may break our bones but words can never hurt me.’ I hope that you are able to get over this quickly."
If Mr. Wilkes watched or even listened to the news, he should realise that name calling does more than break bones.

My experience with Ashtons was far from positive, and unless significant changes are made, I won't be using their services again.
The agents I dealt with were unprofessional and disinterested during both the move-in and move-out processes. Even simple tasks, like getting my name correct in emails, proved to be a challenge.
The move-in process was needlessly stressful. Communication during the application process was consistently poor, with long delays before receiving updates or actions from Ashtons. I often had to follow up via email. Documents were frequently not sent or sent to the wrong email, causing confusion and further delays.
On move-in day, things didn't improve. Ashtons failed to provide the keypad combination for the front door when handing over the keys. The apartment was still being cleaned during the move-in, forcing the removals team to work around it. The check-in inventory was taken at the same time, rendering many photos useless as surfaces were covered in cleaning products. I never received a copy of this inventory.
Communication issues extended to interactions between Ashtons and the landlord, leading to conflicting information on initial payments. This created a rocky start between myself and the landlord over 'missing' payments.
The lack of communication persisted, resulting in my deposit not being properly protected during my tenancy. Ashtons showed a shocking level of disregard for this issue, placing full responsibility on the landlord and refusing to address it. I was stunned that a professional lettings company had no checks in place for the legal requirements of their landlords. As a tenant of Ashtons, it's unsettling to know that you're not guaranteed protection by them.
When I raised the deposit issue with Ashtons, their stance was clear – they prioritize landlords over tenants. They downplayed the significance of the unprotected deposit and the landlord's threats of unlawful deductions. They continued working with the landlord despite this. Seeking advice from Ashtons proved futile; they discouraged pursuing legal action for compensation, falsely claiming tenants don't win against landlords. Their attempts to manipulate me into feeling wrong for challenging the landlord were particularly disheartening.
The move-out process lacked proper communication from the team. However, I appreciated Ashtons' effort to minimize disruption during viewings for the next tenant by organizing them all on one day.
Ashtons must reevaluate their approach to tenants and acknowledge the serious matters they need to take responsibility for. At the very least, improved communication is essential. Tenants should be kept informed about Ashtons' role in the tenancy, rather than having their name in all communications and contracts, only to disappear when issues arise.

We were shown around a rental property and put an offer in the next day. Then was told that we probably wouldn’t be suitable for the landlord due to length of time before we can move in and because we have a cat although they had our details. The most disappointing thing is that we were told we would get a call back in 5 minutes after putting our offer to the landlord but never had a call back and now the property has the let agreed. Good customer service should be to all who deal with the estate agents not just successful applicants.
I’m response to your comments below. You did not inform us of preferences before hand and calling back Monday was not good enough as you said you would call back in 5 minutes on the Thursday. It would be more respected if just acknowledge when you have made a mistake rather than wording a reply to make it look good on this review page. Please don’t call us.

Most inaccurate company moto out there - ‘changing the perception of estate agency’ - you are the polar opposite, you are the epitome of why people don’t trust estate agents from my very own experience. Constant lies to try and pressure well - why not just allow for an honest transaction to take a place without spoiling it with lying ladies in the office (who are really poor liars too).... They felt different to start, but by the end I felt they were taking us over the coals for more money without any evidence of changes to the other offers. Have since heard some very rough reviews about them from other buyers.

We cannot praise and rate Ashtons highly enough having used this Agent to sell our apartment in Harpenden in November 2018. We also give the five stars to John-Paul Brampton. We have moved five time in Harpenden in the 54 years we have lived there having used different Estate Agents each time other than Ashtons.
For the last move in November 2018 a friend recommended Ashtons so we went with Ashtons and we can honestly say we found them the best of any we have used in the past. The work that John-Paul has done and the brochure he worked on was first class and sold our apartment quickly in a difficult market.

I highly recommend Ashton’s. Having rented with them for a few years, I found their service impeccable, always very quick to respond to queries and any issues with the property were never disputed and help was always close at hand.
When I came to purchase my own house, I viewed a few properties on their books, and the agents were never pushy and respected feedback. Sadly, I did not buy through Ashtons. When I considered selling my house recently, I was put in touch with Taylor, whose advice has been invaluable, he has not pushed me to put my house on the market, rather he has supported and assisted me in looking at other avenues. When I decided to stay put, Taylor has helped me with any query I have had, been happy to share his insight and extensive knowledge of the local property market, despite knowing I’m not selling any time soon. When I do come to sell my property, I will without a doubt go straight to Ashtons. They clearly pride themselves on building relationships with clients and local residents.

I worked with Neil Facer in the Harpenden office to sell a 2-bed apartment during 2006-2007. It took about a year from start to finish - not because of Neil but the post-Brexit lull and the glut of apartments on the market. We had several viewings but didn't always get feedback on each one, which would have been helpful.
Neil did have a couple of tough and candid conversations with me concerning the real property picture and realistic property valuations. Tough to hear, but acting on the advice and reducing the price did lead to a sale.
If you want an estate agent to show you the facts and tell you the truth, then Neil is your man. He didn't give up.
