Despite the inevitable stress involved in buying and selling houses (in our case, we were selling), we really enjoyed working with the staff at Homes of Bath Fine & Country. As it's an intimate office-based team, we got to meet and work with each staff member in time. We weathered nail-biting tension and had some belly laughs too throughout the process.
We were initially impressed by their quiet confidence in the ballpark guide price they'd placed on our unique miniature Georgian cottage. Having ended up feeling we needed to get six market appraisals, rather than the customary three - as the first three diverged by a margin of more than £50,000! - we came to understand that it's much harder to determine the worth of an unusual property than somewhere where similar homes can clearly be compared. The additional agents we asked along, having been confused by the differing opinions of the first three, suggested an asking price £50,000 higher again!
Of these, we chose Homes of Bath Fine & Country because of their young, can-do attitude, their friendly service and beautifully presented brochures. These are distinctive not only because of the tasteful, excellent professional photographs which somehow bring out the soul of the home, but also because of the editorials which put across the more personal perspective of the current home owner - a 'local' in the area - which conveys a sense of what it's like to live there. This strikes us as a smart approach, in line with developments in a culture which increasingly prioritizes personalized experience over the impersonal and mass produced. In an era in which you can look at and compare hundreds of places in one session on the internet, a post needs to stand out for the best reasons, not because it's written in capitals punctuated with a host of stars and exclamation marks. This company's listings have a Homes and Gardens feel. For the type of property we were marketing, that was the perfect look.
In the end we achieved a price midway between all six agents' suggestions; something we definitely would not have achieved if we'd gone with the first three who quoted, as this was the starting point of the highest.
The service we experienced at Homes of Bath Fine and Country was tireless, good humoured, detailed, painstaking, uncomplaining when the inevitable challenges threatened to derail the process, and excellent value for money. We would definitely use this company again and recommend them highly to others.
