There is no need to look elsewhere - since the team is very stable and a pleasure to deal with, they have become more like trusted advisers. When there is an issue, Daphne does thorough research, presents a recommendation and explains why. I use this as an example of how to treat all clients!

We bought our house in Honeywell Road through John Thorogood in 1994 and had little hesitation in entrusting them with its sale nearly 30 years later. What sets them apart is their unique local knowledge and experience, their reliability and professionalism, and their exceptional level of client service and care (always with a personal touch). Daphne, Austin and Nina are fantastic people to deal with and were unfailingly supportive and responsive through what turned out to be a protracted and difficult transaction. Daphne in particular, who had main responsibility for handling the sale, was proactive, reassuring, pragmatic and good-humoured throughout the whole process. We would warmly recommend John Thorogood to both prospective sellers and buyers.

Having sold our previous house with John Thorogood back in 1999 we went back to Austin and his team in 2023 to sell our current house after 24 years. We knew we would be in safe hands again.
This estate agency is run in an honest , professional way. Austin, Daphne and Nina are super efficient, helpful, genuine and their excellent communication keeps everyone updated at each step of the process.
I whole heartedly recommend John Thorogood and just hope they are still going strong in another 20 years in case we want to sell our new house !

Even though we didn't actually sell our house through Austin ( in fact we haven't sold it yet ) I can confidently say that when we ( finally ) get it on the market, we will only be using John Thorogood.

I cannot recommend John Thorogood, and Daphne there in particular, highly enough. We chose them to sell my late sister’s house because the photos and descriptions were so much better than the usual agent guff. Their words about a house are warm and engaging, and bring it to life as a home, not a property.
Austin’s valuation we felt was spot on. At no point did he try to wow us with an overblown figure - just offered straight, clear advice backed up with evidence.
The details and marketing were put together in good time and they found a buyer at the right figure in a fair amount of time.
Through no fault of their own, the sale there after was nothing but troublesome. Yet Daphne persevered and navigated us through the minefield with a calm, clear head.
She remained incredibly patient and good-humoured throughout, despite the troubles we encountered . Daphne went above and beyond on many occasions, and her gentle but firm nudging of us to keep the pressure on the solicitors was exemplary.
I’ve never been moved to write a review for an estate agent before, and having provided marketing services to estate agents over 20 years, I can honestly say John Thorogood are both thorough, good and thoroughly good!

The surest sign of confidence in an estate agent must be finding him dependable and transparent when he represents another vendor selling to you! Having bought our Clapham home via John Thorogood in 2012, we found Austin to be informed and easygoing in addition to the admirable traits above, so we turned to him when we wanted to sell the same property in 2021. Austin and his team know the market extremely well and quickly identified a purchaser, were efficient in execution, highly communicative and achieved a great result in line with his initial estimate. We were really impressed with Austin from the start. He was the only person we met who we felt really understood our house and how best to sell it at a realistic but ambitious price (given the area and its condition). He was also really on top of the overall market conditions BTC, given we were in Lockdown 3 and had missed the original March stamp duty holiday, with a house at the top end price bracket of our street/the area. Factors we all thought might make it difficult / stressful. But after one meeting with Austin and a few calls, we felt like we’d be in very safe hands. And we were.
The whole team was brilliant and prompt; the marketing of the property was first class and turned around very quickly so we could get onto the market (we’d found our dream home so keen to secure that too!). After only 3 days of viewings, we had multiple bids which Austin and Daphne negotiated well for us and Austin again advised us on selecting the best buyer, as there are more factors to consider than just price offered.
Experienced and integrity are two words I’d use to describe Austin and his company. All in all, 100 times more straight forward than we ever thought it would be and changed my views on estate agents!

Austin and his team were extremely professional. They know their market exceptionally well and are able to pitch a price right, so it is a fair deal for both Buyers and Sellers. Be wary about using some estate agents who are too greedy - your house will hang around and then may need to be reduced by more than if it was pitched right in the first place.

John Thorogood were a breath of fresh air for us during what was a frankly frustrating search for a rental property. Other estate agents had many times tried to push us into longer and less flexible contracts that weren't at all what we were asking for, nor what we were happy with. I have my doubts that some of the landlords would have been pushing for them too. So when Daphne came along it was chalk and cheese! It was a fantastic, quick and easy process and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend John Thorogood to anyone.

An excellent service from start to finish. We received sensible and honest advice throughout the process, starting with value of the house and the odd jobs that needed doing prior to selling. But the team went well beyond what we would have expected, and in our absence they found and managed some local companies for garden clearance and the minor repairs. This was followed by an efficient listing of the property which led to a lot of viewings and successful sale. We bought through them in the summer. He was very helpful before and after the sale. Austin is obviously an experienced broker. It is a well organized business - for example, they took down the signs exactly on time which is in stark contrast to so many companies that litter the street with their abandoned signs. I would use this company when I sell which sums up my experience as a buyer.

Austin had done his homework before he came round and as such he showed me excellent local comps that they had worked on and sold and as such his valuation was on the money. Other agents either low balled me to get and easy sell for them or gave me stupidly high numbers to try and dupe me into going with them. After I awarded them with the mandate they then provided all the necessary 2nd and 3rd stages with professionalism and politeness. Excellent experience all round and I would highly recommend them locally.

I would highly recommend using John Thorogood as an estate agent. I dealt with Austin Thorogood throughout the whole process of selling my house on Clapham Common. From the the start he was honest and gave me a realistic valuation of my property. Unlike many of the other agents who over value, just to get you on their books. They then tell you 2 weeks later, that you need to lower the price. And that’s why no one has come to view it! He wasn’t pushy ,but was considerate and reliable during what was a very stressful time.
I felt that Austin went the extra mile. He knows the Battersea area very well, and he was very knowledgeable about who would be interested in my house. The larger agents seen to treat all areas and properties the same way, with out much local knowledge.

They treated us with honesty and respect and we trusted their view and judgement and did not feel like they were just saying things because we wanted to here them, unlike our experience with certain other estate agents in the area!
As result we successfully bought and sold three times with John Thorogood and even used their rental service. We would not hesitate to use them again and fully recommend them to anyone looking to move in the area (in fact in our opinion you would be mad to go anywhere else).

I would just like to say that I found the whole team at John Thorogoods extremely professional. They recently handled a very tricky sale for me and their patience and understanding to all parties was exceptional and really kept things ticking along so that the sale eventually completed and all parties went away happy. The very personal service that you can only get from an owner managed business that has been in the are for that long, contrasts starkly with that from the bigger chains. I would not hesitate to use them again and would highly recommend them to others.

There are much better agents to sell and buy from. They think they are king makers trying to control the property prices, craftily controlling offers they don't like if they think it will upset the market.
We met a seller who would have accepted our offer but the agent told us they would never have accepted it so it was not worth making it. Not a happy seller or buyer.
Don't trust the cheesy smiles.
