Update 2023: We recently used Maslen financial services again when we moved home and were once again extremely happy with the service. Joseph worked with us throughout the entire process to get all of the financials in place as and when we needed at every stage. Both Joseph and Louise were excellent to deal with and communicated everything clearly and promptly throughout!

Maslen provided a fantastic service and I can't recommend them highly enough! As first time home buyers my partner and I were slightly bewildered by all that was involved but Graham explained everything step by step and found us the deal most suitable for us. As well as that he adapted to changes last minute as things were thrown up during negotiations to make sure everything stayed on track to hit our completion date. Communication was great throughout with both Graham and his Financial Services Administrator Louise being on hand to answer all and any quires we had.

I phoned this estate agency for a viewing and was talking to Lisa, no legislation suggests you need to give a home address to book a viewing. They want all your data so they can send marketing, Lisa spoke to me, and then when I gave an office address to contact me, she just put the phone down and said "no thanks". Who do these estate agents think they are. They are merely uneducated cowboys and cowgirls who have no idea what they are doing. Avoid this estate agency like the plague. Don't know anything about customer service.

I cannot recommend this estate agents enough. They showed us our first and last house while viewing. They were helpful and knowledgeable and really listened not to mention friendly and professional. They didn’t pester us for viewings and they knew what we were after, after seeing us only for the first viewing. I cannot thank lisa and Tina enough, They found us our forever home. After this we thought that would be the last time we spoke with Maslen but Donna who was our sales progressor was absolutely a life saver. We used really difficult solicitors and she help us understand the complicated stages for our first buy. She calmed us when our solicitors were rude and unhelpful. She basically was the reason we exchanged and completed on the day we needed or we would have been homeless. I can honestly say without Maslen especially Donna we wouldn’t be in our beautiful home in time.I will 100% be recommending them to our friends and family and anyone who needs an estate agent. When me and my partner started looking for a flat to buy, the whole process quickly started feeling extremely dehumanizing. running from Brighton flat to Brighton flat, having to deal with estate agents that simply didn't care, under the pressure of selling for the highest price. We made offer, time and time again, being all the times, asked to put in a higher offer to even be considered. We quickly started getting extremely frustrated and almost gave up. But then I walked into Maslen, on Lewes road, looked at the first flat they had on display on the wall, had a viewing the day after, and just like, finally human treatment. Maslen have been amazing, from Marc who showed us around the flat to Donna who went above and beyond in dealing with not only the seller's solicitors, but also our own. Now we are finally in our flat, and we are beyond happy. Also, was not expecting the box of goodies we got upon recieving the keys!
Thank you all so much, I will never be able to thank you enough, and I hope you understand how grateful we are to you and all your hard work! If we are ever buying again, it will 100% done via Maslen! (We have already recommended a friend who is booking a viewing on flat on the same road as us!)

It really was a lovely experience, they were all so very helpful and friendly all the way through my house purchase. Their communication is faultless - which is so important when selling as it can be stressful. If the person who was dealing with a particular stage of my sale wouldn't be available I always knew this in advance and would be informed of another appropriate member of the team that I could contact.
Timescales and expectations were always dealt with realistically and respectfully.

We would like to thank all at Maslen's for helping with our purchase. They acted as some calmness in the middle of what became quite a protracted and stressful process, as we had already had one purchase fall through. I would just like to share our appreciation to the whole team at Maslen’s from our initial introduction to Ben who took us through the whole process from photos to marketing and towards completion, then a follow on visit from Nick- to the appointment settings from Mark and Stephanie who was always a delight to speak to keeping us up to date on the sale of our house.

I've just gone through the unpleasant stress of buying buying for the first time, after years of renting in Brighton. The whole process is invariably stressful, but the biggest compliment I can pay Maslen, is that they were never the cause of it and were constantly seeking to make the process itself, less painful.
They were reliable, quick to get back to me and I always felt that they were protecting my interests, as well as the sellers'. The mortgage broker who is connect to Maslen (Stuart), was also fantastic and really helpful, but the biggest shout out, I must give, is to the wonderful Donna. She was so amazing that it's hard to put into words how incredibly helpful she was, for both me and my partner.
Overall, big up Maslen they won't let you down!

Donna helped me to purchase my first flat and she was so helpful and reassuring throughout the process. Communications by phone and email were always quick and efficient, she was easy to reach and she would always get in touch with information and updates whenever progress was made with the sale.
There were some issues we encountered along the way, but Donna was understanding and empathetic throughout and she always did her best to help me solve any issues that arose to ensure the smooth progression of the sale. Because she had cultivated good working relationships with the other sellers in the chain some of the issues were quickly resolved by Donna herself, and I couldn't commend her enough for taking the initiative and helping solve issues quickly and efficiently.
Donna was very patient with me, explaining the process to me in ways that I could understand and was personable and kind throughout. I couldn't fault her customer service and I had complete confidence in her ability to coordinate the sale. She even negotiated better exchange and completion dates that more closely matched my own timescales for giving notice and moving, which saved me from having too much of an overlap between my old home and my new flat.
Overall I would highly recommend Donna and Maslens Estates Agents, as well as Stuart Gulvin who is the in-house Independent Mortgage Advisor that helped me to secure my first mortgage. Stuart really works in the interests of the buyers, is professional, unbiased, transparent, and will always advocate on your behalf. He's also just an all round nice guy, and I absolutely loved his chatty nature, and trusted his advice and recommendations. He has an extensive knowledge of mortgage products and financial services and standards and he expects financial institutions to uphold certain standards and values. Where these fell short Stuart was the first to complain and flag processes or products that were not transparent to the institutions that marketed them.
We encountered some issues during the process of securing a mortgage relating to changing mortgage rates during the pandemic, mortgage products being withdrawn from the market, my own financial circumstances and mortgage terms and conditions that were not favourable. Despite all these issues Stuart worked tirelessly to secure me the best mortgage deal he could, and when my own bank refused to sign original I.D. copies he stepped in and offered to do this for me too. Overall I cannot fault him or Donna for the service they have provided me and I am so pleased that we all got through this together.
Buying your first home is definitely a stressful endeavour, but with the right people behind you you will get through it all ok :)

From start to finish, the service was outstanding. They set a realistic value (none of this “we’ll get you an extra £7k” madness) based on their decades of knowledge of the local area and the demand from buyers. They were extremely respectful to our working schedules and made sure viewings were carried out exactly in the timeframes we stated. They fought hard for a good offer on our house and were relentless in getting those offers closed.
Speaking of relentless... Donna, their sales progressor, was the undisputed champion of our entire chain. She never gave up and ended up working with everyone in the chain, including new-build developers at the top, to get things moving. Our experience of agents above us in the chain was horrendous but Donna would not let go and got the entire chain to pull their fingers out and get the move done! I don’t doubt that we’d still be waiting for information and not moving until January if it wasn’t for Donna.
So, if you’re looking to sell your house in Brighton, you shouldn’t be looking anywhere else. Maslen will get it done ????????

Our experience with Maslen Estate Agents was excellent from start to finish and this was because of our agent, Nick.
We had been looking at properties in the Brighton/Hove area for around a month before the right one came up. When I called Nick I was immediately put at ease by his professionalism, attention to detail and a genuine concern to keep all parties happy. Took note of our budget and general requirements and didn't waste any of our time - we booked the viewing for an hour after the initial call and put an offer in later that afternoon!

I was recommended to use Ben at Maslen by my neighbours who they sold through 5yrs ago. I am so glad I decided to use them too. Ben has been very helpful but also in particular Nick who has been the main agent involved, being fast acting, insightful, very straight/honest, completely on it with absolutely everything, and I have achieved a sensible amount for the sale I am really happy with, in a short space of time. The team was very keen to meet our needs for viewings and let us view the same property a second time without question, even offering a third if there was anything we were unsure about.
Once we got the ball rolling, things were handed over to Paula, which is when the service really stood out. Paula was the person who held the whole process together - not just in the way that you might expect an estate agent to, but really digging in to solve any issues and remove the stress from involved parties.
Paula also went the extra mile and did a number of things that our questionably competent solicitor should have done.

We have had a fantastic experience with Maslan (Paula, Ben & Nick). We chose Maslan as when we were first time buyers they were the only ones who we felt were genuinely interested in helping us secure a property (Sam in particular). Unfortunately we didn’t buy our property through them - it was listed with another agent and it was terrible (Fox & Sons - on completion day they’d lost the keys so we couldn’t get into the property until the following day when the vendor could come and let us in!). Anyway, we knew that when we sold we would use Maslan as they would treat our buyers with respect and were well placed for our area. We have not been disappointed and today have completed on selling that first property almost four years later. It wouldn’t have happened without the guys in the office, but in particular Paula - whose focus is the do the real heavy lifting - the after-sale process. One in a million. She managed the whole process with us (living now in Australia), our solicitor, the buyer, their solicitor, with such dedication and organisation that it felt like we were the only property she was dealing with.
We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Maslan’s, especially the Lewes Rd group who we dealt with.

I've just recently purchased my first flat through Maslens Lewes Road and absolutely can't fault them! I viewed lots of flats with a other agents and it didn't take long for me to be certain that Maslens was the office I wanted to work with.
My purchase did have a few bumps with a complicated chain but Paula was amazing! Most days I would turn up in the doorway in a panic and she would help talk me round, updating me at every turn and calming me down!! We were searching for a property in Brighton and the surrounding areas for about 2 years in total. In that time, we spoke and dealt with many agents. Although, we didn't buy through David Maslen, I wish we had.
They, Harvey Gee in particular, were extremely attentive and very good at keeping us up to date on new properties to market. When we choose to sell, we will definitely instruct them to act on our behalf.
We would also recommend their financial advisor, Graham Griffin. He helped us with our mortgage, which was somewhat specialist, and we couldn't asked for anything more and it is a free service.
I could not speak any more highly of their staff and service and would highly recommend them.

Maslen sold a house for us last year and everything went through very quickly and smoothly thanks to all the staff at the Lewes road office. We have sold another house this year and at the beginning of July we were very happy to ask Maslen to handle this sale for us again. We were very impressed when the house sold after just 2 days. 5 stars out of 5 doesn't reflect the service Ben and his team provided throughout the sale of our flat. It's been a long and drawn out process for reasons outside of our teams control but at no point did anyone take their eye off the ball. Professional throughout with constant updates and first rate communications. I have bought two flats through Maslen's Lewes Road Office in two years, and have been totally delighted with their service. One I bought for myself at the end of 2014 and the other now, in June 2016, for my son, after months of searching through all agencies in Brighton. In both cases, the experience for me with Maslen was flawless and all I could ask for: straightforward, honest descriptions, reasonable market asking prices, pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and patient staff who never tired of my repeat visits and questions, and a clear, fair process for dealing with multiple offers - fair to the sellers and fair to the buyers.
But there is more: the excellent service after the offers had been accepted. The careful, attentive way they monitor the process and help it along to completion, smoothing out problems, keeping buyer and seller in close touch. This was a big surprise to me in my first purchase, and an enormous help in both purchases. I wholeheartedly and thoroughly recommend Maslen if you are buying or selling a property.

I'm very pleased with the service I received from Maslen Estate agents when selling my property. I always felt that I was kept fully up-to-date with the developments of the sale and it was never a difficulty to get in touch with them. Friendly staff that came across diligent and professional at all times.
I was impressed with the organisation of the viewing bookings and found it easy to keep track of it all as I received an e-mail for each viewing which I was able to keep organised.
Another note was that I used their suggested conveyancing solicitor Lauren Fitzgerald who I would also wholeheartedly recommend. There was never a communication breakdown between the solicitor and Estate agent and I was always kept abreast.

I found David Maslen estate agents to really good in my experience as a buyer, they were always super flexible when it came to organizing viewings. In particular I found that once we had agreed a price they did a very good job of ensuing any issues or communications between buyer and seller were managed which meant that any issues we did come across were resolved quickly up until completion. I’m really glad I chose Maslen Estate agents – I always prefer to choose a local independent agent over a corporate / chain agent and they did not disappoint! They came across as genuine people and not smarmy. I particularly liked the fact that they always answered the phone, were always friendly and helpful and always knew who I was when I called. Maslens got a good price for the flat I was selling in Brighton – slightly over the asking price, but did not try to sell me the promise of a sky high price, just to get my business. I also liked the way they were always courteous about the way they dealt with my buyer – I got the feeling they were treating us all like adults trying to get through the transaction of buying and selling properties, without playing games that some agents do. One of the best things I noted was that Maslens have a designated Sales Co-ordinator (otherwise known as Paula!). Her role and relentless effort into chasing both parties’ solicitors and other involved persons was invaluable. Paula was very good at keeping me informed and I hardy had to contact my solicitor as she did it all for me which made the whole process a lot less stressful than it could have been. I strongly advise anyone not to choose an agent that doesn’t provide this service! I also used the independent Mortgage Advisor Graham Griffin who is attached to Maslens. I found him to be very straight forward and after visiting a couple of other advisors – I determined he was able to provide the best rate. The only negative is that Premier Property Lawyers were one of the Solicitors that Maslens recommended. I ended up using them for my sale and onwards purchase. This is the second time I have used a ‘call centre’ type conveyancing service – mainly due to price. Both experiences have been pretty awful. As long as you avoid Premier Property Lawyers – I cannot recommend Maslens enough and they deserve 5 stars.

It is now September 2015 ... and having put in numerous offers and "lost" four homes in Brighton we have now exchanged on our new home sold to us by Maslens and we will be moving in October. I have learnt a lot in the six months that we have been involved in the house buying process about estate agents in Brighton. Regrettably it has been in the main a very poor and disappointing experience. We have even met one Brighton estate agent who misrepresented key information which is probably going to result in us taking them to court to reclaim our costs as at the last minute we had to withdraw from the purchase. However that is enough of the bad news ...
On the very positive front Ben Hawley and his team at Maslens in the Lewes Road office have been like a ray of sunshine for us. Always positive, good communicators, knowledgeable and genuinely making me believe that I mattered as a client. They stand head and shoulders above all the other agents we have dealt with in Brighton over the last six months and it was truly a special day when we saw their advert on the internet for our new home. The whole team at David Maslen estate agents provided an excellent service. Martin provided an excellent sales tactic and priced my 3 bed house at a good but competitive price. Maslen's tactic of a Saturday open day provided about 9 viewings which converted into 2 offers. After a number of phone calls these 2 offers were above the asking price so we had accepted an offer within the week.
Fortunately, the buyer was also selling with Maslen meaning the sale went smoothly. And when it came to buying another house Martin at Maslen was able to provide some sage advice.

The conveyancing process and chain was fairly stressful towards the end yet Ben, Martin and the team managed to keep us calm and provided advice at every stage.
We have also used their independent Mortgage advisor for our past two purchases and would again recommend the service provided.
Although we have no intention of moving from our lovely new home we will use David Maslen Lewes Road if we do!
