Duncan, Daisy and the rest of the team were super supportive.
Right from viewings, to second viewings - Duncan ensured we had enough time and space to make a decision. No sales or pressure tactics, just professional behaviour and clear communications throughout. While we chose to go with our own mortgage advisor, Duncan totally respected this and did his best to keep all parties going throughout the conveyancing until completion.

Horrable rent agantes. They lied to us over a month.. we was trapt in the mold property whit no cold water because of these lies, we having a baby.. On the day we took the keys, we went straight away back to them they said that there is nothing that they can do, and they will contact landlord. Property looks different from what we see in the beginig. Make sure you read you contact!! We are suffer to deal whit them from long time.... They told us something and they do absolutly different thing! Please gays make sure you read all over everything.

Well, where do we begin? Over 6 months ago we made an offer to Mather Marshall on a property they were selling. It got accepted! Brilliant news. In hindsight, we’ve still not received confirmation (6 months later) of the offer being accepted. We were told it would be a fast sale, as the sellers already had an offer accepted on a property that they wanted to buy. Even better news!
One week later, the top of the chain falls through. These things happen. Mather Marshall did not want to release the memorandum of sale until the sellers found a property to buy. They knew that we were going to move forward and start to have surveys on the property done. They did not in anyway discourage this, therefore we proceeded, in such a way to get the ball rolling quickly. When the survey report came back, there was something that showed up. Duncan told me that what the survey was saying was not a true reflection, and didn’t need the work being suggested. This was the last time we heard from anyone at Mather Marshall.
We had phoned fortnightly (approximately) checking to see how they are getting on with finding a new property. I have to say, I feel like we were an inconvenience to Duncan and his team. Each time we phoned they told us that they would contact us when the sellers had found a property, but assured us that they knew people who were about to sell their house, and that there were plenty coming on the market. After 2/3 months of chasing, we decided to await the good news from Mather Marshall that the sellers were ready to proceed. 6 months down the line, we have had ZERO phone calls from Mather Marshall to check in with us, update us or generally contact us. Everything you would expect an estate agent to do.
6 months have now passed. We are nearing 7 months and we have noticed that the property is “no longer on the market”. We have not bought it. But we have not been informed by the estate agents that this is the case. What is going on here??

My partner and I were first-time buyers, Mather Marshall and especially Sam Cox had been extremely helpful throughout the whole process. Sam had been very hands-on from the first time we saw the house we bought until the exchange of contracts. We were always able to reach him and through the process was there to assist both sides. Furthermore, there are a lot of agents that will pressure you to meet their brokers before you even view a property, thankfully with Mather Marshall we didn't have these pressing techniques, we got a recommendation of an amazing broker from them (that we ended up using!), but never felt the pressure to proceed with their people. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience with Sam, he went the extra mile to accommodate our needs and kept a very good balance between the sellers and us. We had our late parents property on the market for over a year when someone recommended using Mather Marshall . Duncan was honest and straight forward. Their fee is not the cheapest in the area but also not the most expensive but I must stress that it is worth every penny and they do go the extra mile. They got viewings, set up a family "Whatsapp " group with updates, which was fantastic for my Brother who lives in New York and they sold the property within a month.
When we had some unusual issues with the land registry and rather than loose the sale, they suggested renting the property to our buyer until completion, which was a fantastic idea, rather than loose the sale.
A massive thanks to all the team, especially Sam & Duncan.

Not one update and when I politely called to get an update got verbally abused by Duncan. Then complained to company owner Paul who was even worse! Complete Micky Mouse/unprofessional company. AVOID.

As someone who speaks up when service is poor, I could not let the chance pass by to praise all at Mather Marshall.
We recently sold our flat with MM, having bought it through them 5 years earlier. Sam and Duncan were superb for us throughout.
I would point out that we first listed our flat on the market with Wrights. We chose them over MM in order to gain favour given we wanted to buy a property they listed. MM understood our decision but did not let it lie, they contacted us on a couple of ocassions to remind us they were confident of selling our flat. They also sent us a Christmas card, which was a lovely touch given we were not a client. By that time Wrights had not only let our purchase slip to a rival, but made a poor job of selling our flat and we removed it, disillusioned.
We knew there was only one place to go when we wanted to re-list months later. Sam Cox sold our flat within a week, having been on the market much longer unsuccessfully with Wrights. Unfortunately the buyers pulled out after a couple of weeks of us not finding a suitable property but Sam sold it again only a week later.
Other local based agents we experienced pushed incorrect info on us, didn't understand or listen to our needs or didn't understand the market. I'd not accuse them of being liars, but certain other agents staff are so inexperienced, their misinformation is dangerous in such a huge decision making process like buying and/or selling property.
With MM, there isn't a scenario Duncan Duffy hasn't experienced or a square inch of Hatfield he doesn't know inside out. Sam is open, honest and not pushy. We viewed properties Sam was selling as well and we felt more able to talk to him openly and trust what he was saying than other negotiators.
These guys have a much more personal approach and service compared to the larger agents.
Even after the sale was agreed, I leant on Duncan more than I did my solicitor to ensure different stages of the sale were solved smoothly. His advice was invaluable. He helped at every step and managed the whole chain perfectly and professionally.
We experienced, through our buy and sell, 6 or 7 different agents and I have complaints about each one of them, either back office or the negotiators, or both.
The only agent I would recommend in this area is MM, don't make the mistake of going for who you want to buy with or who tells you your property is worth the most. Just give it to MM.

We were pleased with the service from Mather Marshall. Finding the ideal home can be very difficult and exhausting task, however, Mather Marshall made the process much easier, accommodating our needs instantly and finding us our perfect place in no time at all.
The negotiators Sam Cox and Duncan Duffy kept us informed all the way. As first-time buyers, we were not familiar with the process, however, they explained all very well and answered all our questions patiently. As well as, they liaised with our solicitors and relevant people and speed up the process.
We found their services to be of outstanding quality. Calls were returned promptly and matters dealt with efficiently.

If you scraped the bottom of the barrel you would come out with a more competent and capable set of workers than this estate agent. Personal experience as well as countless friends have led me to the conclusion that this is an estate agent to avoid at all costs. Unless of course you are prepared to lose at least 50% of your deposit; the majority of which is over damages prior to your tenancy. Surely an inventory would prove otherwise you may ask? Wrong. Inventories are down to the landlord, and from my experience no inventory was done, despite contrary claims. To save myself and the reader some time, bullet-pointed are just some of the key issues i found with Mather Marshall.
- Landlord (Joint owner of the estate agent) squares up to me in office and threatens me when confronted upon the issue of why the return of my deposit was 2 months late.
- During tenancy landlord/agent was called numerous times concerning various issues with the house such as faulty boiler. Nothing was done.
- Mold was growing in one of the rooms. The proposed solution? Keep window open all day (during winter!).
- Charge for wear and tear.
- Charge £66 for extremely cheap door handle.
- Charge over £1000 all together for redecoration due to a couple of blu-tack stains which were there prior to tenancy.
- Charge for "hole in wall". Once it was proved with pictures that the hole existed prior to the tenancy, charge was removed and another charge for scraped banister was added to compensate.
- General rudeness and inefficiency of staff prior to, during and after tenancy.
From the first day it was obvious that I would eventually have to settle matters through court which is exactly what happened. They charge students for the same things year in year out, putting deposits into their pocket and leaving the house in the same condition. Condition of the houses are shocking, landlords are nowhere to be seen during the tenancy and everywhere to be seen when the time comes to pocket deposits, and the staff couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery.
I feel like this is one of those estate agents that one picks out of naivety and thus only has the unfortunate experience of renting for a year. Never again. Underestimate their surreal incompetence at your peril.

Unfortunately there isn't really an appropriate word I can use to describe all of the shortcomings of this letting agency.
Firstly, it took them a week just to do a simple inventory, their excuse? No one was at home. Clearly a lie as I know for a fact someone was home, and secondly, which agent doesn't have keys to the property they are renting out? Secondly, I wasn't actually able to move in on the right day as they said the keys were still with the previous tenants, a situation which they would have had a month to sort out (given that the contracts are only 11 months long).
It also seems that they are always looking for sympathy from customers, saying that their job is very difficult, cry us a river, you think it's so easy being a student living on a very tight budget, while being taken for a ride by an incompetent agent who is only concerned with lining their pockets with fees? The incompetence and unprofessionalism I experienced was summed up on the day I went to sign the contract. Another tenant was complaining that they were stealing his deposit as they couldn't prove they had actually spent the money on repairs, when the joint owner, Paul Mather, had to be calmed down by his wife in front of all of the customers after he shouted "I'll rip your head off". The man was completely unprofessional and frankly out of control, this is not acceptable in any business.
I do not wish this experience on any person, and would beg that you stay away, if you're feeling brave, make sure you have some world class lawyers.
