As a university student, the renting process can be a daunting experience. Before renting with Portland Estate Agents, I initially tried to go through a certain feline competitor. They allowed us to pay deposits right up until our move-in date, only to inform us on the day of that they didn’t have the correct license to rent to us. This, of course, became a major issue, especially with university starting the next day. After this experience, a friend recommended Portland Estate Agents, as they’d had a smooth, stress-free process with them—which, for students, is almost unheard of.
Once we were in the hands of Portland Estate Agents, the care and attention the staff provided were exceptional. They were more than happy to help with any questions or concerns, and they made the entire process seamless. I would highly recommend them to any student looking for a reliable and supportive renting experience.
Their team was proactive in addressing our needs, ensuring we had everything required before our move-in date. They genuinely understand the challenges students face when moving, which made us feel valued as clients. Portland went above and beyond to make our move as easy as possible, even checking in with us afterward to ensure we had settled in well. Henry, Paul & Leha were fantastic throughout the whole process. We had previous experiencing in selling through Hamptons where expectations were set too high, we felt fobbed off once signed up and communication was poor. Portland were quite the opposite, they managed our expectations well and kept lines of communication open with frequent updates. Crucially - they got the property sold!

I tried a few estate agents before using Portland, who were more expensive, however I did notice a big difference when working with them. We had a significant increase in the number of viewings and the agent we dealt with was very proactive. It was not an easy property to sell in the current market (required considerable modernisation) but Portland worked tirelessly to make the sale.

My entire experience from day 1 with Portland has been very positive. I have been a landlord for a while but have just completed my first year as a landlord with Portland.

I have not been let down. Everything aspect of managing my property has been so well done and they have given me unbiased advice which has been very informative, especially now that I am based abroad. I have recently sold two properties through Portland and, after many bad experiences with estate agents in the past, have genuinely been very impressed with their approach and conduct.
They build strong channels of communication with all relevant parties and go above and beyond to keep everyone connected and updated. The small sales team is effective and proactive in moving things along and fighting for the best outcome, and they manage to remain optimistic and upbeat without lying or devaluing the frustration and stress that comes with selling and buying property. They are also all very friendly and always made time for us when we needed help.
I am grateful to Henry, Leha and Paul for their part in making sure we were able to move into a house before our second baby was born, which was our goal.

What’s the most important thing about having property managers? Is it a company that has its ducks in a row regarding paperwork, gas and electricity certificates, regular inspections, tenant vetting and countless other dreary necessities of running a rental? Yes, of course, and Portland does this without me even noticing, as it should be. Much more tangible for me however is having someone that picks up the phone every time I call and deals with whatever issue I might have, quickly and competently. There was some incredibly tedious issues to overcome with the sale of my flat. However, Henry and Paul remained calm throughout and things were always sorted efficiently.

I have showed my interest in one of their letting property and showed that I am welling to view it any day including last Wed, I have been told to view it on Fri 5.30pm where I made my arrangement accordingly, I even called their office noon time to show I can come earlier, but in return and an hour before my time to view it, I got a call from Mr. Mohan to cancel my viewing as the owner accepted an offer, I have been treated as an interest number for the flat, also I have been offered the worst option to show that we tried to serve you.. let a lone using the useless customer phrases of; I understand your frustration (but I will not do any thing for you as usual).. it is a general trend now a days of creating a housing problem by collecting as much interest to increase the rent although inflation went down by half but it is still a practice by real-estate agents as I personally experienced with Portland Estate Agent. If you are such an open client trying to show an interest and discuss who will live with openly (in my case I showed one of my family members is disable), I would not recommend dealing with them.. Thank you.

I am a first time landlord; and I have to say it was difficult to know who to trust managing our flat, as we live overseas with an 8 hour time difference. After several agents quoting, we decided to try Portland and hoped for the best, and thankfully they have not disappointed us.
The team are all polite, efficient and great communicators. They explain any issues and resolve them quickly for us, whilst letting us know the costs involved along the way.

To begin with, they recommended the same solicitor to both me (the seller) and the buyer. A solicitor that, after being chosen by the buyer, didn't bother inform me and kept exchanging emails as if he was working for both... As far as PE is concerned, the agents will seldom give you the impression to be working for you. I asked them to help me remove some (small) items from my property (I live overseas) and I got no answer. In fact, after exchanging contracts, they didn't even bother reply to my emails or even whatsapp messages by which I was asking for some advice about closing utility bills and other minor businesses. I don't recommend them. In London, you'll find better professionals elsewhere...

This is my first time using Portland Estates as agents for renting a property and I’ve held off on writing this review - I’ve now been in the property for almost 3 months and feel better equipped to make an honest review.
I’d firstly like to thank Andrew C. who went above and beyond in getting me this property. And Rebecca A. who was my prev. named agent for being so kind and patient answering my million and one questions pre and during the move in period. She helped me complete all the documents step by step where needed. She was very responsive and easily contacted either via telephone or e-mail. Also to Dani D. the agent currently managing my property who is a delight to talk to and who I have emailed often. Dani and Rebecca have taken good care of any and all issues and repairs I needed sorting and always give me reassurance and good advice, frequently chase up contractors on my behalf and update me without me following up either.
The reason I am giving 4/5 is that I think there is still room for improvement in how hands on they could be during the actual move in. There was someone who did the inventory with me but because the viewing was done using an external company, there were some questions about the property left unanswered. There wasn’t anyone who orientated me to the property like which of the three switches operated the hot water, which bins are recycling (no labels lol), info about the gardeners and cleaners for communal areas etc.
To add, I think as someone who has not had a lot of experience renting in this country, I felt that some information should be volunteered by the agent as acting advocates for renters e.g. I was not aware that I should have asked for a professional cleaning before move in or that I should have explicitly asked for a repair to be done before making my offer etc. Very small issues in the grand scheme of things!
That being said, I absolutely love my property. There have been some issues outside of the agents control with things to repair but they have been so good and responsive, I can’t fault them as repair times and contractor schedules are outside their control. They have, as agents, done their part. All in all, I will recommend them to anyone looking to rent a property. The team I have worked with are all professional and friendly and I’ve not had any directly negative experiences from them. I feel like I am in good hands. Thank you again Andrew, Rebecca and Dani!

I have to be honest, I have been very against dealing with agent managed properties because of bad experiences in the past but everyone we've dealt with here has been great. From the agents who showed us the flat to those who are managing the flat - it's been great. Dani has been our main point of contact and she's been extremely helpful in all matters, making sure we're comfortable as well as the landlord. We don't have the need to contact landlord and she's been dealing with our issues quite quickly. In the past, we've faced issues with agencies not caring after contracts are signed but I have not seen that here at all. I would 100% recommend this agency.

We booked a viewing for last week to which the agent didn't show up. When we called, they said there was a problem with their booking system and the booking didn't go through. We asked if we could view the property later that day to which they responded, unfortunately not as they had to give 48 hrs notice to the tenants living in the property. We rescheduled for Saturday (and scheduled another viewing with another agency, who wanted to show us a property around the same time, for next Tuesday). 2 minutes before the agreed time, and 2 minutes before we arrived at the property today (on Saturday), we received a phone call. Since we found noone waiting for us at the flat, we called the agency and they said they couldn't get hold of the tenant, and that they couldn't show us the flat. They wanted to reschedule for the third time, to which we said no, as at this stage we consider the agency untrustworthy and unprofessional.

GDPR risk. I saw a room on spare room, the person that answered said get in touch with Portland Estate Agents. I called. On my fist phone call I mentioned the reason for calling, I first got a sigh and then the person hanged up. On the second phone call they asked for personal details, my personal address, my full name and all my contact details without even knowing if I can be helped or not. Do not ask for personal details unless you are ready to enter a contractual private data and demonstrate your ability for ethical privacy and security. I bet you guys been lucky to get away with this because not a lot of people are aware of the full extent of GDPR law. POOR SERVICE!

One time, I got lost. Middle of the London. I couldn't find my accommodation. my phone died, freezing weather I was totally panic. But I saw them and asked them about charge my phone a bit. My wife and I have moved a few times in London and for reasons totally out of Darren’s control (one of them Covid) this one was a very protracted and complicated deal. I did not have a positive experience with this company and during a stressful period of moving back to London I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I would not use them again.
Darren, the below is incorrect and it is rather concerning that you believe this to be an account of my experience. My experience was this: I had a short period of time to relocate - I explained my situation and was told that you could help me find a place to my specifications in that timeframe. I was heavily pushed to view and make an offer on a property that was owned by one of your directors (this can be confirmed by my PA who arranged the initial viewings) and then I had to phone everyday for a week to find out the outcome. I completely accept that landlords have multiple offers - what I do not accept is that I have to chase the agent for updates, poor communication and inability to manage client expectations.
I was told a week later with only a few days left to move… and no, I was not offered other properties that fitted my brief. I then went to another agency who did not treat me like an inconvenience and found me multiple properties within days. After going with another agent I received an aggressive call from your agent - I tried to explain how the other agency was more proactive and gave better customer service (please see the review I wrote for them to get a better understanding).
I work for FTSE 100 companies helping deliver and define their customer service workflows - so the concept of good and bad customer service is not lost on me. I feel your response comes from a place that is more concerned about your rating than it is about my experience - otherwise you would actually take ownership of that breakdown.
Also you took what I wrote out of context which is disappointing and what is more concerning you took interactions from professional emails and printed them in a public arena without my consent or authorisation - which is extremely bad practice. As governed by GDPR I request that you delete all my personal records and contact details as I found your constant phone calls about reviews boarding on harassment.

I had a really negative experience with Portland they were very unprofessional and didn't make me feel like a valued customer. They should not be trusted and I'm starting to think that the positive comments have probably been written by family and friends.
They openly bad mouth their competitors and can be very passive aggressive. Please avoid at all costs.

Darren is helpful, friendly, extremely professional and knowledgeable. He is unique!
A few days after the initial meeting first class marketing material including photos to sell our family home was uploaded with prospective buyers enquiring almost immediately. Darren met with them independently at the property to input his knowledge of the neighbourhood, wider area and property types sending updates and email alerts every few days. Less than two weeks later we had TWO cash offers!

I have owned a property in Willesden Green for some years, and used a number of the well known estate agents in the area in that time. I only recently discovered Portland (2018) and can honestly say they are in a different league to the rest. Andrew and his team are friendly, efficient and most importantly knowledgeable about the local market. We can all be cynical about estate agents but Portland changed my view and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. If you are looking for a honest and professional service, look no further!

Even after notifying the agency that I am no longer looking for a property I kept receiving SMS messages. The messages were being sent with a sender ID "PortlandEA" saying at the end reply STOP to opt out - which doesn't work. I actually called the agency just now to ask again to be taken off the list and using the opportunity that I have someone on the phone I wanted to be helpful and explain to the rather unpleasant man that the way they are sending messages is not GDPR compliant (I work in communications industry) he just cut the conversation in the middle of my sentence. I will most certainly not be using the agency as they are clearly only nice to people that they can profit of in the short term run.
To the man from the phone: No, the "STOP" message will not magically arrive on your computer if you are using alphanumeric sender ID. You either use an actual phone number where people can respond directly or ad STOP + short code to where people can reply. You are welcome.

Probably one of the best Estate Agents I have come across. Normally I do not like the third parties or the middle man because they make too mush friction between the real customer . I have worked with Park Heath, Bairstow Eves, and endless number of different estate agents, but the more I become know them further I want to go away from them because most of them are parasitic. Portland Estate is no ordinary middle man, I found them genuinely do care about giving a good product to their customers and the google reviews are clearly showing this.

The service we received Portland was great. Despite 2 out of 3 of us being on holiday, It was straight forward and painless to get all the paperwork sorted and the checks complete. Even though it was the Landlords preference to meet us, it was organised well by Portland. I felt like our expectations were managed appropriately and the Landlords concerns, with 2 of us not having viewed the property, were eased.
We want to move in on a Sunday as this fitted in with our weekend plans. Despite the office being closed, Andrew came into the office so we could get the keys and sign the paperwork.
If anyone is looking to let in the area, I recommend Portland to manage this on your behalf.

My property finally completed this month after almost a year of issues. Mainly there were problems unknown to me with my lease, I hardly had to do anything as the team chased everything for me.
The main man was 'lee', He is easy to talk to and has so much knowledge about everything. You receive regular emails, phone calls keeping you up to date every step of the way.
They work well with your solicitors and the buyers solicitors and take a lot of pressure off you in what can be a very stressful process.

Very good service. Had previously had our flat on the market for three weeks with another estate agent, and while people came to view it, no-one rented. Gave it over to Portland and they found a tenant on the same day, fully vetted.
It wasn't just a fluke, the second flat we tried renting with Portland also had a tenant within two days who put down a deposit and is moving in soon. Would definitely use their services in future.

Probably the most proactive estate agents in the Willesden Green Area.
We recently sold our flat with Portland Estate Agents on a multi-agency agreement. They were able to bring in lots of potential buyers almost straight away whereas the other agent only managed to book in a couple of viewings.
They were able to agree the best price and they liaised with our solicitor directly throughout the sale process to help push the sale along faster as well as keeping us updated at every stage.

As a landlord I rely on my agent to get reliable tenants in the shortest time possible. In the last 2 months I have given Portland Estates two of my properties to market. They have been quick and reliable in every aspect of their service, Andrew arrived promptly, took the details and had it on the website that day, prospective tenants were shown around and in each case within a week suitable tenants had been lined up. The referencing and back up documents were processed very rapidly and everything went very smoothly.
