If only I could give no stars..
We've had what can only be described as a nightmare experience with Sharman Quinney at Thrapston. Firstly, we didn't come to them - they came to us. Mariella knocked on our front door one afternoon in May after we'd previously had them through for a valuation but decided against using them. We were impressed with her ingenuity and accepted her offer to discuss how they might still help us as we hadn't had any success to that point in selling our property. We were looking to move overseas and had a lot riding on the move as we are also taking our beloved dogs with us.
She came across really well to us and said that given the circumstances of her visit they would waive the usual terms of engagement on the basis that they'd really just like to help us sell our property. So, we agreed to let them market it for us - what did we have to lose?
We got viewings almost immediately - it's very much a buyer's market in 2023 so some were timewasters and others appeared to be more genuine. Then we had an offer on the same day as the viewing - we accepted it and then had a call the next day to say they'd changed their mind.
A short while later we reduced our price and had interest almost immediately from another buyer who'd seen it at the higher price but couldn't afford it. The agent wasn't available to do the viewing so we did it ourselves. They offered the next day and had a relatively attractive chain by UK standards. She was selling to a renter and was cash on completion. It sounded ideal. They offered low and Sharman Quinney were of little use in raising the asking price but we accepted it because we just wanted to get the deal done and move overseas. We even showed her family around a couple of days later so other than taking the initial phone call, they had very little to do with the deal.
James Best, the Thrapston branch manager, handles things after the sale is agreed through to completion. I was also told that they had a specialist resource that followed up with the involved parties weekly but, in time pressured sales such as ours, twice weekly. It didn't quite happen like that though.
There were just two other parties to follow up. Both of them were supposedly ultra keen to get the deal done. Searches were done, enquiries were raised and answered. We were dusting off our passports and pet quarantine permits and getting ready for the off!
But we had a constant struggle to get him to reply to emails or return phone calls. I even visited their office three times just to pin him down and get him to understand the importance of getting this done in the time-scales we were working towards. I had 2 updates in 8 weeks (and I had to ask for those) and when things were getting really tight I pressed him for an update. At this point, he made some calls and then called me back to let me know our buyer's buyer had backed out and the deal was dead.
Of course at this point our confidence with James and the rest of his team was lost. But then we also had the 28 day notice period enforced upon us which basically means we have to stay off the market for a month to satisfy this condition.
Overall, despite getting plenty of viewings and an offer that we were prepared to accept, we were left very disappointed that our plans had to be shelved. Whilst sales fall through for a variety of reasons, the lack of comms from James and his team at the critical stages certainly contributed greatly to it in our opinion.

James was amazing in getting everything completed on such a tight time frame allowing us to move in before we loose our rented property which would have left us homeless for a while.

Although it took over 5 months from selling to completion it was a very long chain and it all went relatively smoothly. Mariella was always polite and helpful even when things were getting a bit fraught and we were phoning constantly. Katie the Sales Progressor did a great job particularly in the last 2 months when people at the top of the chain were getting really difficult. She rang to keep them updated every day which kept them on board and kept the chain going to exchange. Although it was a stressful experience, to say the least ,I believe Sharman Quinney did all they could to bring the whole thing to a successful conclusion. Many thanks.

Living a distance from the property presented a number of issues when selling, but the staff at Sharman Quinney Thrapston, were all very helpful particularly James Best and Kerry Radforth. They managed the viewings and kept in regular contact throughout the process. We also utilised their own conveyancing team based at Peterborough, unfortunately, this was a mistake as there was very poor communication and their tracking sheet was rarely updated. The sale fell through and we were advised by James to change to the modern auction method. This was very efficient and concluded the sale inside the timescales when a new conveyancing team was utilised (Iamsold). If you require a quick sale I can full recommend this process.

From valuation to sale, viewing to purchase they expertly handled the whole process.
As a bonus, they introduced us to Leanne who somehow actually managed to make the arranging of a mortgage fun!

I'm a first time buyer and was looking to buy a house in a year when I could afford my ideal home. I had spoken to several mortgage advisors and wasn't eligible to borrow what I needed. However, when I started my job at Sharman Quinney earlier this year, Leanne gave me the confidence to try again.
Not only did she help me find the right mortgage, she also helped me find the right house. She also provided me with the cost of moving and helped me manage my monthly costs, which I have never had offered to me before with previous mortgage brokers.

We put our house up for sale with Sharman Quinney in Thrapston and Johnson Roy and his team did a great job of of selling our house for us.
Really easy to deal and staff are great and there customer service is fantastic and nothing was ever to much of a problem.
We was with another estate agents before who did a really bad job with our house so moved or to Sharman Quinney and never looked back as they sold our house really quick due to there great selling team and Johnson Roy.
I would use Sharman Quinney again if we ever move again.

Send three enquiries about a cottage I absolutely loved, never got a response from the Thrapston branch. I also emailed the main Sharman Quinney office to ask and they told me they had forwarded my email to the Thrapston branch, but I still never got a response. I don't know if they actually want to sell houses but I have a house to sell and I will not be putting it on the market with Sharman Quinney!

Transparent re service provided and costs.
I live some distance from the property which was being sold and from the very beginning they kept me updated re viewings and prospective buyers.
All members of the team played their part, conducting viewings on my behalf and at all times keeping me informed of progress.
If they were unable to answer the phone, they always phoned back the same day and sorted any queries promptly.

Rhianna Larner has been assisting us with our property search. Her local knowledge is terrific and she has an excellent, professional rapport with her clients. Due to a cognitive disability I absolutely stuffed up our viewing schedule that Rhianna had set up for us. We live away from the house we were selling but had peace of mind knowing that the SQ crew were close by.
Selling a house due to bereavement is tough at times but Johnson and Riannah were quietly reassuring and eased the whole process. Lucy even popped round on Sunday in her own time to collect keys from me. And put a Hoover round when I couldn't.
Marketing for the house seemed spot on, with plenty of viewings - even post Lockdown. Selling by virtual auction was fantastic! I would definately turn to SQ again.

I have used Sharman Quinney multiple times and always found them to be helpful, they always go the extra mile... particularly Tuesday Moroney who is the queen of vendor care! Even bringing me the office hoover round when mine blew up the morning of my open house. Rhianna Larner has been an exemplary agent and very efficient in getting post viewing feedback to me. Lucy Reed has gone above and beyond by finding me a house that want even on the market yet, and ultimately getting me in my new home! Kerry Radforth is excellent at keeping the paperwork moving and ensuring things run smoothly.

Totally un-ethical and in my opinion highly unprofessional Agent. I would not have given any stars but can't post without!! In my opinion steer well clear - do not even ask them to provide a market appraisal - if you do invite them in and then you decide not to use them but market through another agent they will bad mouth your property to anyone calling in to see what they have available if they mention that they are viewing/interested in your property.
I looked to engage the Thrapston office to sell my house - didn't proceed with them despite them saying I could still market through them whilst I was in my cooling off period with the Agent I had selected, whilst this is true, it seems highly unethical/underhand!
Now I find that anyone who goes into their office who mentions my house SQ are telling them my house is not worth the asking price - however this opinion of theirs seems to keep reducing - so far by more than 25K over the last few months. None of the other agents I have received a Market Appraisal from seems to share their opinion re the value funnily enough!
They don't in my opinion act for the Vendor, just want a sale so they can get their fee at any cost. When we complained about their tactics to the office, they basically said it is a tough market and they will say whatever is required - the last person they bad mouthed my house to actually wants to buy my house - SQ have nothing in the same price range and therefore why would they even need to comment - this must be pure spite/sour grapes - very unprofessional.

Re the response - No formal valuation was provided - although one client viewed having not been told what we wanted to market it for, they were asked what they would pay for it! We have never been issued with any offers from Sharman Quinney and I will therefore be contacting the local office for evidence to support this comment. Not sure who is writing the response but they clearly have not received correct factual details. If you want to provide me your contact details I will be happy to call you - as an ex agent myself I am aware that all offers have to be put forward this was not the case!.

The only problem we had was with our first mortgage advisor, but we moved to Rachel and she was very helpful. Do not waste your time on this agency!
They are one of the most lazy, unprofessional and uninformed agencies in the area. We leased a house through them, and gave them more than one opportunity to improve their service, but eventually got absolutely fed up and moved to another agency. The best decision we made, because after 4 months of no tenants with Sharman, the new agency found numerous interested parties and agreed a let within a week.
Some of the issues we came across:
They never call back, if you have a query.
They coax you into management fees and refuse to accept solicitor drafted amendments.
They are not proactively engaged in finding tenants, only sit back and wait, costing landlords months of no rent.
They approve check out/deposit-release paperwork on a property when there is obvious damage. Thus, costing the landlord repair fees out of own pocket.
The list goes on
Honestly, I am not quite sure what they actually do apart from posting the house on Rightmove.

*if you dont use their convancing or broker dont expect them to even entertain an offer
* When they say the house if off the market dont belive them as it wont be
*ignore the written letter saying an offer will be excepted because its a load of lies.
*dont trust lauren or johnson
*dont expect a call back or for them to ring you they wont.
So brief insite to how these fraudsters have shafted up offer excepted on a 4 bed detached two weeks ago handed paper work in on proof of my morgate etc imformed my astate agents who i must say are fab and im going to name them as they are far better than these so called company (RICHARD JAMES their a highly reccomended estate aagents far better than sharman quinney)
Imformed solistor organised convancing only to have an extremly rude johnson to call my husband and say another offer better has been put in and would we like to put a higher offer in!! So they guzumpted us!!! Apauling practice and i have now imformed the law sosiorty and they are now looking to shut this company down due to the high volume of complants they get from this company!!! I will never use them in my intire life and will make sure they shut down as they are a bunch of crooks!!! I hope they see this and feel utterly ashamed this will be copied and posted on social media.
