Disgusted and betrayed by a company
I rented a 4 bed house in Frinton Through Boydens
Firstly they are more expensive the others for contracts etc ,but I didn't mind as I thought peace of mind if I have problems ( little did I know )
Half the lights didn't work ( blown light bulbs )
I fitted new bulbs throughout the house .in the kitchen I found the bulbs kept blowing so i informed Boydens they said they would speak to the landlord and get back to me
Nothing happened so i kept phoning
It took 6 weeks to get light in my kitchen not good in the winter evenings cooking for a family by torch and phone light .
I was also kept awake most nights by a constant sound coming from the boiler pump .so I of course phoned Boydens
5 different workman came and if was agreed that the whole system had been wired up incorrectly and that it needed all changing ( by this time my gas bills were through the roof )
As I was told that the boiler was constantly coming on . 7 weeks later it was fixed .
I also noticed when I moved in that we ( family ) couldn't use the bathroom upstairs as no water would come from the taps ,ok there was some water but it would of taken 1 year to fill a bath that's how much came from the taps . So I phoned Boydens ( of course )
3-4 months to get it fixed lucky there was a downstairs shower and sink .
Onto the outside security lights none worked and were rusty no problem I thought I will fit new ones the problem that on inspection the whole wire system was AGAIN done by an idiot
Nutural and Nutural ( black to black )go together
Live and live ( red to red ) go together not in this house someone have put black to red
Once I'd fixed myself and fitted new lights everything worked correctly .
I decided to end the contract of the lease
Gave Boydens 2 months notice
I cleaned the house thoughout bleaching floors ,wood oil for kitchen worktops etc . The place was shining
Better looking than when I moved into it
Plus electric was 100% safe ,with a new pump and boiler and a bathroom that was fit for a king ( well a family )
I'm a working person and couldn't meet Boydens when they came to check the place to move out they would only give me a daytime slot not even early eve when their shop was still open .
But I didn't mind as I knew there was nothing wrong .
I THEN AM told that they wouldn't give my deposit back
"Why I asked "?,?
The cleaning wasnt done by a professional cleaning company
They started picking up on silly things like marks on sockets ( small marks )
That could just rub off
Oh and the grass was 1 inch higher than it should be so they would have to get a gardener
I demanded my deposit back telling them what I'd done and what I'd been theough since moving in , all I was told was they would speak to the landlord
After nearly 2 months fighting my case they charged me £320
To clean AGAIN AND CUT THE GRASS ( THE 1 INCH TO HIGH GRASS )
I was told £320 or they would hold onto my money and keep fighting
What choice did I have
NEVER GET THIS COMPANY TO HANDLE ANYTHING
Excellent experience - hightly recommend them! Before moving to Colchester, I was based in London and found it difficult to get time off to come and view properties. Richard kindly agreed to do the viewing using FaceTime and this saved me both time and money.
He was also very efficient and responsive during the application process. I moved in without a hitch!
If you are looking for a professional agency to rent a property from then I can't recommend Connells enough.
The worst agents I have ever come into contact with. Please do not waste your time with these people. They are very unprofessional, rude (especially the manager) and disappointing.
I’m not going to talk about everything that happened whilst I was using them as frankly I could be here all day. But if they claim they will call you back, give up as they never will. If they promise you a house viewing saying you will be the first to look at the property, also give up as that is not true and they only say that to keep you on their tail. If you do not do this they will leave you extremely disappointed.
Please do not waste your time with them.
Excellent and flexible conditions of sale. Staff friendly and quick to respond to requests. Would highly recommend this experienced agent with a good knowledge of properties and infrastructure in their area.

Had the misfortune of dealing with this terribly poorly run company when they managed my block. The staff were rude and had little clue about what they were doing, they constantly got things wrong and were completely inefficient. It was a god send when they were removed. I sincerely hope we never have to deal with them ever again as lots of tenants were left severely out of pocket, by there inept block management. Avoid at all costs...!
Rented through these guys before and wish I had been able to with my current property - not all letting agents are created equal!? A first class, friendly team who kept me well informed and dealt with any query swiftly and professionally - having such a full team of ARLA members clearly makes all the difference. Highly recommended.
I would not use this company again if it was for free, rude, unprofessional and simply not nice. I was told by several people (and estate agents) afterwards that they are ''old school'' and ''stuck up''..... I now concur.
