As a first time buyer with an open mind and with a mortgage in principal, I naively thought that we would be treated with respect and professionalism. I had heard lots of negative comments about estate agents, but as this was my first encounter. I gave them a equal chance. We viewed a house, and loved it. 15 minutes later, Shipways Redditch received our offer on the house, and told us they would get back to us the next working day. This did not happen. We continued to wait for a phone call until eventually, we ended up phoning them, to be told they had no further information.
This continued for another three days, once a day before finally, we phoned up to finally be told that a higher offer had been placed, and that the seller had accepted it.
Now I have no problem with being outbid on a house, as the market is very competitive. Instead it was the fact that I was made to feel more like an inconvenience, than a client/customer every time I called up. Genuine questions were granted sarcastic responses and smarmy comments, deflective answers and useless timewasting snippets. To be kind, they had the general level of reliability that one might expect from an old French car.
Whilst we have not been put off our house hunt, I hope Shipways sort their act out, as in years to come, when I come to sell my first house, I will not be using Shipways Redditch.
