BEWARE!!!! This company will string you along tel you what you want to here and never follow threw with a thing. Very unprofessional communication is terrible. Also getting any issues with your property is a nightmare and finally once you’ve come to the end of your tenancy you don’t get your bond back under any circumstances. 0 star rating an absolute don’t not go with this letting agents!!!!!

An absolutely shocking experience selling our home using Bridgfords Durham! Communication was shocking and we had 3 viewings not show up. We got an offer the first weekend of having our house on the Market but rejected it, expecting to get a counter offer but instead had no further communication from the team regarding that buyer.
Once we had accepted an offer, the forms that we had filled in to get the ball rolling with our solicitors turned out to be absolutely pointless as we got assigned new Solicitors and had to complete them all again.
I'm not kidding you, we were assigned Conveyancing Direct as our solicitors, started the process with them and then were assigned another Conveyancing company due to work load, then they were too busy so we got reassigned to another solicitor before being resigned back to Conveyancing Direct but with a different solicitor (who turned out to be very helpful). When trying to get to the bottom of this with Bridgfords no one there had even heard of the companies THEY had assigned us.
Despite numerous promises to have calls back from Jonathan to resolve this, it was always myself who had to call him. There is no point in selecting the selling your property option when doing so- it seems they only ever pick up when you cheat the system and pretend to be a buyer.
He even failed to send over the official complaint procedure documents without being prompted twice. An official complaint was never made as I believe he is no longer working for the branch as manager.
Once we'd sold our property, communication was non existent for around 6 weeks, until we were notified our Buyer had pulled out from our solicitor. When trying to get in touch with Bridgfords to find out if they had any information we constantly got passed around and no one seemed to have any answers. I believe 3 different staff tried to contact our buyer to get details but none of these were passed on to ourselves in full. Apparently an email was sent to one member of staff but no one else could access this email account. On one occasion when trying to call, we ended up getting passed through to a different branch (due to the whole team being in training/staff sickness) Luckily this branch was 10x more helpful than the Durham branch and we got a slightly less muddier understanding of why we lost our buyer.
We were sold a higher priced package based on absolute lies!! The higher level of service that was promised compared to other Estate agents disappeared as soon as we agreed to sell our property! I think they are deliberately over-estimating to make you more likely to choose them over more realistic estate agents. 100% would not recommend!! Stay well clear of using this estate agent if you can avoid it.
Luckily we were recommended another local estate agent who were absolutely brilliant! They had our house back on the market in a day with new photos and listing and were incredibly helpful throughout the process with great communication with ourselves and our buyer to complete the sale.

Contacted them twice asking for a specific (not difficult!) piece of information on a property they were advertising for sale. I spoke to a different person on each occasion but neither of them bothered getting back to me. Meanwhile the property remains for sale. Wonder why? I wouldn't use Bridgfords to sell my property - lazy and indifferent.

Worse experience happend. Not helpful when my washing machine broken. When i s0oke with the contractor he told me its stop working because its aged more than 10 yr. They haven't given any response for 3 month and after tennancy ends took all deposit and telling they need to do work. Terrible experience i had. Never recommend for my friends.

Terrible estate agents. Property was disgustingly filthy when I moved in, bin bags of food waste left rotting in the wardrobes, dust coating everything, the bathroom was black with grime. Was informed by Bridgfords it would take 5 days to arrange a cleaner, so I arranged my own the same day.
After 4 months of being in the property my boiler has still not been fixed - I have had a contractor out over 6 times. The boiler now needs replaced and my contractor needs to discuss with the landlords as obviously not cheap. Bridgfords however have asked the contractor to try further repairs despite him saying we’re running out of options to fix it. So likely will be further delay in getting adequate hot water in the property.
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this estate agents especially students who may be taken advantage of.

I was persuaded to give management of my property to Bridgfords. As Landlord, I would expect from an agent to care for my property as much as I do. However, I did not receive this level of service from Bridgfords.
Very poor customer service. One mistake after the other, to start, I was introduced tenants which one of them had a CCJ registered. However, the branch manager persuaded me to accept as they had a solid guarantor.
Only 3 months after the tenancy started, rent seized. At first, I was sent an email with updates every week. Rent arrears continued to accumulate, however strangely the more rent was in arrears, the less I was updated with the situation.
Due to Bridgfords not chasing the rent anymore, I had no other alternative but to outsource a debt collector, of course at my own cost. Shockingly, debt collection later found that the "solid guarantor" was an 85 year old pensioner which was not in a financial position to pay for the outstanding rent.
Also, during our 12 months, Bridgfords was unable to gain access to perform a property inspection, despite myself contacting the tenants and agreeing on a date - however Bridgfords had an excuse for everything.
Also, I requested some repairs to be done and they did not bother to find a contractor to do the work. Again giving me excuses that "the tenants are not responsive etc..." which is not true.
I am now left alone dealing with disrepairs, a possession hearing, thousands of pounds in rent arrears and an estate agency that had decided to quit management rather than find solutions.
I can not express my frustration, stress and a feeling that they simply did not care are the minimum about my property.
This to me was unacceptable, if I were you I would think twice before giving your property to them.

Bridgeford Durham office is the worst Estate agents we dealt with! Please stay clear of them if you want to buy or sell your house. Poor service, really shocking! We tried making an appointment to view a house on Laburnum Avenue in Durham, the moment it appeared on Rightmove. We called about 50 times and left many voicemail messages, they don’t answer their line at all. Emailed several times without any response. Eventually managed to get hold of Jonathan, who said he will get back to us to confirm the viewing by the end of the day. We didn’t hear anything for several days, called many times again without any response. We eventually spoke to a very helpful lady in Washington office, who promised to email Durham. No response from Durham office. We continued calling for several days without any response, until we were eventually told that the owners on holiday and they will call back to arrange a viewing. Several days later they called to say that the house is sold. We found it hard to believe that it wasn’t sold to some of their friends as clearly they were disinterested in showing the property to anyone else. They were not interested in higher offers either. Please avoid Durham Bridgefords if you want to sell or buy a property through them. Very poor and unprofessional service!

I have recently used Bridgfords for the tenant finding service. I have dealt with Adam Catterson during the process. He is very responsive and professional. When they first took pictures of my flat, the flat was not fully furnished as it took time to get everything delivered. They came to check the flat, took updated photos then updated the ads online as well. I used two agents to market the property at the same time and the other agent did not bother to do so. I also needed somebody to install bathroom mirrors, toilet roll holders and lightings. I asked Adam whether he had some contacts who would be happy to do the work. Adam was very responsive and helpful. He provided me with a quote from their contractors very quickly. In the end I did not use the contractor for lighting installation as I got a cheaper quote elsewhere. I did use the contractor for the bathroom work. Adam helped to arrange it and the work was done in a couple of days and well before the tenant moving in date. I am happy about the services I have received and would recommend Bridgfords to families and friends.

My dad has rented through Bridgfords for almost 3 years and has only had issues. The property he rented was full of mold that they did not do anything about, he lived without hot water in the bathroom for 2 years and with a boiler that was not working properly. Considering how much he paid monthly for the property you would expect much more and from such a reputable company.
This year my dad suddenly died and when notifying Bridgfords of his death they seemed to be compassionate and caring and within conversation it was agreed that if I cleaned and tidied the flat then the security deposit would be returned to help with the funeral costs. As you can probably expect, that wasn't the case. They are now trying to play the card that because it wasn't agreed in writing they can't keep to their word and they have done nothing to follow up on the compassionate or caring that they initially pretended.
Its safe to say I would never use Bridgfords and I would strongly tell everyone not to go anywhere near them, they are an utterly useless, money hungry set of fake estate agents. AVOID.

I was renting a flat with them, over two years I always had troubles getting answers from them, many emails went unanswered or you have to follow-up on your request many times. Maybe it does not help that it is always a different person answering your messages. But in the end my main questions have been answered, just avoid them if you look for a stress free experience.

Extremely poor management of a property in which an elderly tenant lives. The tenant has to arrange repairs with the management company himself but they take weeks and months to sort out the frequent issues, resulting in increased stress and distress for a vulnerable person who is expected to chase these issues up. In my view this is completely unacceptable.

this estate agency is a joke.
Less than 24 hours before a viewing, which was arranged a previous week, I visited the office personally and confirmed my attendance. they still emailed me an hour before the viewing and wanted me confirm, and I did confirmed it via email too. they again called a friend of mine just before the viewing, who was helping me to get into contact with the agency while I was abroad, he confirmed the viewing as well. but 3 confirmations were not enough so they did not show up. when I managed to call them and let them know that I had been waiting for about half an hour in front of the property on a stormy weather, they decided to come to the property. yet the property was under a heavy construction, so much so that we could not even enter the rooms and there was no bathroom. this is the property whose advertisement still says “This tidy little house comes exactly as seen in the photographs”. no one bothered to tell me about this little detail (!) of renovation thing for about a week.
as I said, this estate agency is a total joke, but Sarah. She was so nice and helpful.

I was left sitting outside a property not once but twice in the same day waiting for a viewing.
I was told I would meet staff at the agreed time and when no one turned up I called to be told they tried to call me 3 times and sent me a text to confirm the viewing.
They had not.
They then agreed to reschedule the viewing a second time later that day.
Once again, no one turned up.
I’ve sent my complaint to head office. I could only get the details to do this by calling a different branch in Washington and having them email the details to me.
A day wasted after arranging time off work.
Based on the other reviews of this company it’s safe to say I will never be using them again.
I feel sorry for the landlord wishing to rent their property and wish I could contact them to tell them my experience. Sadly they will probably never find anyone to rent out to through this company as they can’t even arrange viewings for prospective tenants.

Great letting and property management service from Bridgfords for our two apartments in Durham over the last 12 months. All of the administration of finding tenants and setting up ASTs was handled efficiently with a quick, friendly response response from Stacy, Amy, Emma and the team in Durham. Absolutely abysmal customer service or should I say non-existant customer service, was told to pay numerous admin fees upfront and I would be sent a receipt immediately, so I did so and have yet to receive any receipt after over 3 weeks from the payment date. I have made daily phone calls sometimes 2 or 3 a day have waited over 3 weeks for a call back, whenever I call the advisor is either 'in a meeting' or 'busy' and told they will call back when they are available. Full of time wasters and money grabbers who are not bothered about their customers at all once they have your money!

My experience is that generally as a landlord you're not listened to and expected still to pay the price when it all goes wrong. The maintenance department never responds to your queries. Its not worth the premium price tag.

I've been waiting for a call from an employee of theirs (not going to use names) 3 times now. Each day I'd ring up and be told the exact same thing, wait around for a call and not receive it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a young professional and they're not taking me seriously, or this certain employee is simply not capable of doing day to day tasks correctly. Either way I am upset, and like I say, this is the THIRD time it has happened.

I rented from Bridgfords for approximately a year and a half. They were always quick to respond to any queries or questions I had. Customer service is great and their offices are right in town if you need to pop in and speak to someone. They are always friendly and try to help. The department who deals with and faults with your property usually get back to you quickly but can sometimes be difficult to reach or forget to contact you/follow up your query

Our experience with Bridgford has been the worse in ten years of renting properties in the UK.
As soon as we took off the property from the rental market, Bridgford has been extremely slow in administration (e.g. confirming that our references and documentations were alright and confirming acceptance of the offer of rent). Afterwards, despite the property was managed by Bridgford we dealt directly with the landlord who was fortunately very helpful throughout.
At the end of a two years tenancy, we left the house and had it cleaned professionally. Few minor issues were pointed out in the check-out report (few light bulbs to be changed, oven and hob to be cleaned, 'some' dust remaining on 'one' shelf in one bathroom...). We said we'd send our cleaner and the communication started being very scattered. Three months afterwards we received a letter detailing the deductions to be made on our deposit including a full new end of tenancy cleaning (£180), plus £60 of agency fees. We have now raised the issue of an unjust solution, and made a proposition to pay one third of the cleaning fees, but we haven't receive any answer yet...
And after three months we haven't received our deposit back yet!

The letting team were absolutely fantastic. No matter who answered the phone whenever I rang, every person was totally up to date with the house they were letting for me. It's one of the rare estate agents where the staff come across as really experienced and actually listen to what you're telling them. They did everything they said they would, at the agreed date/time. The whole process was so easy.

i have stayed in one of Bridgfords letting house for a yr. These are responsive persons. whatever you need, like broken stuff, they will get back to you within 3 days. don't have to call. most of the time an email will do. the only thing i don't quite like is their service charge is a bit high, compared to other letting agents. But i have to say, it worth the money.

I rent my apartment from Bridgfords Lettings in Durham and have done so for a number of years. They are very professional and friendly to deal with and I have never had any complaints. Any issues, for example when my hot water went off, are always dealt with promptly and communication is always excellent. The staff at Bridgfords are always very helpful.. I would recommend them to anyone looking to rent from a reliable and professional company.

Appalling.
Accumulated charges to move in (read bribes to get the property) were £450 against a monthly rent of £670. After my landlord gave notice I am in the process of moving to another rented home. The new lettings agent (Robinsons) charges 'just' £200. Now before my Bridgfords / Countrywide experience I would have classed that as a rip off.
Final insult (hopefully final, I have yet to get my deposit back). When the new agent rang for references they were told Bridgfords only provide written references and that I have to pay £25 to Bridgfords for this.
Avoid at all costs. Also you should take the positive reviews here with a pinch of salt. Cant imagine anyone being happy with Brigfords demands for money for references, contracts, credit checks, and so on.

Save yourself and your tenants a whole load of problems and use another agent.
Terribly unorganised. Breaching contract isn't unusual for this letting agent, not giving notice prior to entering a property for example. Not carrying out exit inspections. Not being truthful about the state of a property. Which is especially problematic if you’re not living in the area. The list goes on.........
I think the main issues are caused by so many people being involved in one property while not communicating very well at all. The amount of times I hear the response "sorry I don’t know why *name* said that because it isn’t the case" is astonishing.
If you have decided to use the Durham (or Newcastle) branch then I would certainly suggest you handle everything by email and avoid telephone conversations. Best of luck.

Having read the review below I was extremely cautious when I arranged my first viewing with Bridgfords. Nevertheless from the first enquiry I made, the process seemed seamless and the member of staff that I dealt with was extremely helpful; I had seen a property on their website which is when I decided to call and arrange a viewing, the professional approach that the staff handled my call impressed me as I was ideally wanting a property with a large garden and un-carpeted throughout, however she advised me that the property I enquired about didn't match this criteria as there was a small garden and the house was carpeted on the first floor. Nevertheless she did reccommend another property to me which we arranged a viewing for and it was perfect, she certainly listened to what it was that I was looking for! First impressions of the company and the property were very impressive and I decided to put an offer forward as I was keen to move quickly. The lady that accompanied me at the viewing explained the entire process, as well as providing me with the relevant application forms to speed the move up. I'm astonished at the review I read below, as the lady that conducted my check-in could not have been more helpful and professional. I have had no issues with Bridgfords what so ever and the quick, yet extremely professional service that they have provided has been excellent; every member of staff that I have dealt with has been friendly and very professional!

Moved into a house from an apartment in the same postcode. Unfortunately had a terrible experience with Bridgford’s lettings. It all began from house search. They would try and put our request down over the telephone saying that the house doesn’t fit our criteria. We viewed it eventually and the previous tenants mentioned some issues which needed to be sorted in the house like a broken banister and paint falling off the bathroom. We had mentioned this to Bridgfords and they assured us that they will have a week between tenancies so that they could sort this out. We clearly stated that we are moving in with a young family, two kids one 4 year old and other 7 months. They did indeed have a week in between tenancies and gave us the keys as promised on the date. The person who moved us in was not bothered about the inventory when asked about the broken banister she lied saying that it wasn’t there when she did the inventory! It was such a shame on an established letting agent in the region. We couldn’t move in that day but had to sign the inventory as we were pressurised saying that unless we sign the inventory she would not handover the keys and we had already booked in movers for that day! The carpets were in a horrible shape scruffy all over the house especially in the bathroomsl She behaved as though “I am not bothered types” I have got your money and thats what I want. When you leave this house I will make sure I take more money from you....She left saying she would organise the broken bits to be sorted immediately and made the contractor ring us who couldn’t come in until the day after. The Banister got finally fixed the next day and we then moved in. Since we have moved in there have been so many plumbing issues leaks, dishwasher leaving water in etc etc which might damage the furniture and we have put this in an email and requested them to sort it out. 15 days since move in nobody has ever been bothered to look at it all they say is that we are trying to get in touch with Landlords! What more I realised yesterday when I went to obtain a parking permit for my second car that I have been given an illegal document as tenancy agreement by them...I was literally broken down no more faith in Bridgford lettings, there are numerous letting agents in the region who are far better and I have had first hand experience with people who have dealt with them. The tenancy agreement wasn’t signed by Landlord only signed by tenant everywhere possible... I have complained that £70 parking fine a day is what they owe me from today in spite of which they haven’t got back, apparently they are trying to get in touch with the area manager who will contact me!! There is no end to complaints I am now being pushed to see my solicitor. Which I think is working out and shall up date when I have been successful! I have taken pictures of the property on move in date and have all the records just in case the same person moves me out! I am surprised seeing excellent reviews..maybe they are selective in looking after people!

It was a very stressful time having to find somewhere to live whilst still dealing with the emotional turmoil of losing our home. Bridgefords found us a number of properties to view close to our original home and gave us good advice on options. They also helped us with speeding up the moving in process with the insurance company. Good support in a bad time.

I had a property with a rival agent in Durham and was recommended Bridgfords lettings through a friend. I called and spoke to Lauren who arranged for Faye to visit my property, Faye was extremely professional answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable switching agents for my property. Faye got me on the market with in a 24 hours and then 2 days later Lauren Called me and had a dozen viewings arranged. a day later lauren called me and gave me full and honest feedback, I have never had had such excellent service, Lauren found me a tennant and they signed up for 12 months which was more than I expected. They found him through the University relocation team who they seem to work closely with. I have several other properties in other areas Ill be putting them all through Bridgfords I cannot speak highly enough of the Faye and Lauren in Durham.
