First ever Google review but feel it’s important to share our experience.
Never again. A rent increase of 45% in 3 years forcing us to end our tenancy agreement early.
(Absolutely mortgage rates have increased, but to not have the decency to give some insight or reply to an email questioning a 22% annual increase shows they really don’t care)
Arranging visits to the property and not attending, then when challenged making false claims they had but no one was in (I work full time remotely and they forget ring door bells exist..)
£600.00 “advertisement fee” to be released from our contract. 4 days to move a house we’ve lived in for 3 years. A further week’s rent whilst not occupying the house so their external inventory company can create a pernickety snag list (disregarding general wear and tear).
A further £7 charge because the above mentioned external company loses the back door key (laughable).
Any prospective tenants PLEASE do not be as naive as ourselves, we never missed a payment in 3 years and returned the home in very good condition (more than comparable to when we moved in). I can assure you the only time they will work tirelessly is when trying to retain ALL of your deposit. It even took them a month to break the news after repeatedly chasing for updates.
Recent positive reviews are quite clearly a result of a smoke and mirrors exercise with their landlords or unwitting tenants who are yet to try move away from Northwood.
Despite the wasted money, never having to interact with Northwood Southampton again feels liberating. They are void of any empathy or reasoning and exist to rip off hardworking tenants. Detestable business run by vacuous people.

Throughout a difficult process during an upsetting time due to a bereavement Northwood has been so helpful. This is especially true of Amanda. She is so practical, patient, caring and calm - all of these qualities have made the period we are experiencing at the moment easier to cope with. We're so glad our son chose a property on Northwood's books. We would recommend the company to tenants and new landlords.

I have been with Northwood 8 years they saw me through Covid when my landlord ended my tenancy and had to move in the middle of lockdown Amanda was lovely helped me Emma has always been lovely too although I have very little reason to call them. Recently my health has got worse and I am moving to sheltered housing Amanda let me pay 600.00 to release me early from my 12 month tenancy and helping me find a new tenant so I can stop paying the rent. They literally done everything in their power to help me, we jumped through hoop after hoop to ensure Id fit the criteria's. A very stressful time in my life and they offered that hope I needed. I've been a tenant of Northwood's since November 2015, and I can honestly say it's been the easiest - nearly 9 years - of renting. I've never had any issues. Any maintenance situations were promptly seen to by their own contractors, and staff were always warm and friendly. Amanda, Emma, and Aaron were always quick to respond either over the phone or by e-mail if on the rare occasion I had issues or requests - and as points of contact, I cannot fault them.
As a tenant (and a single parent), I've always felt a sense of security renting from Northwood, more importantly, I felt as though my best interests were considered just as much as the landlords they let on behalf of. A rare find! 10/10 would recommend.

Do not use this company to rent with... quite happy to leave you weeks without an oven with small children... will happily rent a house out that has dodgy electrical repairs and sockets... will take half your deposit at the end of the tenancy - just because they can and give you ridiculous figures to cover it. Very bad customer service and attitudes within the office. Manager will never speak to you no matter what time of day you call they are always "too busy" or "not at their desk"... lots of other issues too but I can't write them all down individually... just avoid at all costs.

Definitely would not recommend. Terrible communication throughout a 3 year tenancy with them. From moving in, we asked for renovations to be looked at and sorted, such as mould, peeling paint and rust in the bathroom etc. We were told no to each request and meant we could not use the second bathroom. Furthermore our rent was increased despite us asking for and justifying updates in the flat and being told this was not possible.
Upon moving out, we were given a bill for cleaning after we had paid for a clean. This was extortionately higher than other local services. We were also given an electric key bill 4 months after moving out due to a debt on the key which we did not see upon moving in, never went in to debt during the tenancy or as we left, The estate agents failed to provide evidence as to how this was not our charge, so we had to pay a further £60 for electricity that we had never used. This company have failed at every point during a 3 year tenancy and would not recommend them to anyone - it was a constant hassle and our rights were not taken into account at any point.

One of the worst experiences of my adult life has been renting through these guys.
Lied about fireplaces being operational to get us to sign, then revealed they were not. We complained, we moved in, one was replaced the other was extremely dangerous an we had to contact safety experts privately.
Nearly killed our family with a lack of diligence, fireplace revealed had actually caught fire previously and was not safe. Proper alarms were installed. Managers said they were aware staff kept lying to customers. No action taken
At every turn the service was lower than acceptable. Reported to trading standards.

The agent who showed us the place doesn't know what she was trying to sell at all and the customer service over the phone is always appalling! Northwood are an absolutely appalling letting agents. They looked after two of my properties in Southampton which were transferred from a previous estate agents and it was a nightmare from day one. They never paid my rent on time and I had to constantly chase and was always lied to and excuses all the time - I think this was to cover up cash flow problems. I am now thankfully with another letting agents who pay my rent on time every month and are pleasant to deal with. Do not use Northwood if you dont have to!

Awful service. They seemed really good at first with the viewings, however they could learn a thing or to about customers service.
We had to chase them to get addresses for viewings and they never seemed to talk to each other in the office, giving us different information.
When we put an offer in we didn't have any confirmation or update about it. When we called to enquire we were then lied to about it being let as we were told the property was not going to be ready until the end of October but if we wanted to up the offer they would happily send the paperwork ove. After two weeks we were told it was let but only after again we has to chase. There was no offer to show us anything else. If I'm honest I think we dodged a bullet as if this is the service they provide before you rent from them I can't imagine what it is like when they manage a property and you have problems.

I have been using Northwoods for letting my flat for a number of years now. As soon as the flat is marketed for new tenants it’s snapped up immediately and I only ever have a couple of empty days between tenants. A special mention to Nicki Burgess and her team, who are always happy to help with any issues throughout the tenancy. Nothing is ever too much trouble. They are always quick to respond to my emails / phone messages. If you are looking for an agency to let your property for you, I would highly recommend Northwoods.

I agree with others that staff seem friendly biggest let down is the fact that they are renting out property's that are filled with damp and other issues that have been going on for years that landlord and northwoods are aware of but do not tell possible tenants about then when tenant finds out refuse to help in any way causing tenant to have to end tenancy early due to property being in no fit state to live in but nortwoods 're post to 're rent as soon as tenant moves out with out any work being completed to amend rising damp and all other major issues will not be recommended northwoods to any friend or family member looking for somewhere new to live

With personal experience of dealing with poor letting agents in the past, it was refreshing to find an agent that manages to maintain a fair and objective balance between the interests of tenants and those of landlords. In spite of some initial minor 'teething difficulties' at the outset, Northwood Southampton invariably work hard to resolve issues and keep things running smoothly, for tenants and landlords alike. Lied to us (tenants) way too many times "your carpets will be changed before you move in" "walls will be painted over before you move in" "bathroom will be fixed soon" etc. etc.

Absolutly awful ! First they informed us we won the rent and demanded us to pay the deposit with credit card straight away while still on the phone (!). That was not a problem of course if it had not been that at 16:30 pm we were at work and we could not deal with that. They agreed to keep the rent on hold for us till the next morning when we could meet, pay and sign the contract. When we called them back at 9am they told us the apartment was gone. No further comment necessary. Absolute scam, avoid at all costs !

My husband and I have been renting with Northwood for the past year and we have been really impressed by the high level of customer service and efficiency from all of the staff at the Bellevue Road, Southampton branch.
Kieran and the team are so friendly, completely approachable and easy to get hold of via email or phone if any problems. We have rented with various agents over the last 10 years and we can confidently say that Northwood have been our favourite agents. Their fees are extremely reasonable and they are completely transparent from the beginning, so no surprises along the way. The cost of renewal of tenancy is by far the cheapest we have come across in our 10 years of letting properties!! They take the stress out of renting with easy to understand paperwork, give you a helpful informative rental pack that lets you know emergency contacts etc and things to help you settle in your new home. They also make it easy to renew by sending a straight forward pre-written letter to you with the option to renew (or not) that you tick and sign and send back in the prepaid addressed envelope. It may sound minor but little things like that just make it easier/cheaper/save time! We would highly recommend Northwood due to the genuine kind nature of the staff, their efficiency and reasonable fees and hope to continue renting through them for the foreseeable future.

Very good experience, phoned up to enquire about a property they had listed. Bradley was very helpful and professional answering all my queries on the property, however it just wasn't the house for me. Very polite staff all round and i would definitely use them in the future!

I have been with Northwood in Southampton for over 2 years and I have NEVER had an issue with them. Staff are always a good laugh and have always dealt with any issues I have immediately. Nothing is a problem for them and I can hand on heart say it has been a pleasure being with them. They are all great and lovely people who have always been superb and prompt in all situations.
I don't understand all the negative reviews they have received because they have been absolutely brilliant to me and its been so easy to be with them! Thank you all!!!!

Unprofessional service for both tenant and landlord alike, use these letting agents at your own risk.
It would seem Northwood lean more towards staff with no morals, and Southampton is one of the cities to come of out worse for wear.

Expect multiple problems on a regular basis, gross staff misconduct, and a general lack of skills regarding, well pretty much anything they touch. Be prepared for a nice phone bill each month too.
NorthwoodUK are con artists, who prey on the disabled and elderly with no remorse for their actions. They are a literal cancer of the lettings industry.
For Southampton I recommend people use either Tenant Direct or Beals, they are polite and perform a professional service, thank you.

Absolute thick as S#@* dumb asses, thieving scum. Glad to be rid of them. They prey on vunerable people. Everything is your fault, they wack fees right left and centre after renting from multiple agency's and private landlords iv not known nothing like it. You should be ashamed to have a business such as this! same goes to the bimbos working here. I highly recommend you do not rent from these scum

Its all about the landlords with these guys. They don't care about the customer.
We lived in a converted house into 2 flats, and i lived in on the bottom floor with my partner and our 2 children. Had a hugh problem with mould in the property, but because upstairs was ok, we were to blame. I explained that water was also coming through the tops of the windows, and they sent someone to come have alook after months of moaning. It was the same excuses every time i went in "we can't get hold of the landlord to approve the repairs". When they have it in there power to make the repairs after a certain period of time and deduct it from the landlords rents.
We moved out a month ago, and have just received a email saying that they have been trying to contact us regarding our deposit, and with no such luck of trying to reach us. Well they have not. Our phones are always on
It also stated that they had to repaint the entire place due to the mould and marks on the walls. They took over 50% of our deposit to make the place new.
I walked in and asked why they took so much. And it was back to the same old tricks of pinning the blame on us. I understand if need to pay for certain things, but the whole place. Absolute rip offs.
They even said that they have had no problems with the windows leaking. (That might be because there has been no heavy rain!) And the new tenants have not reported anything since they moved in 2 weeks ago. Wait until winter, and they will find out. The cycle of BS starts again.
Stay away from these con artists!
