Never leave bad google reviews but I feel very let down by Portico as a tenant. It’s taken over 2 months to get our 2.5k deposit back after moving out in August. Portico tried to pressure us to use a deposit subscription scheme instead of a normal government protected deposit despite stating several times we didn’t want to. In a highly competitive market, we were told the landlord would favour the former and it may jeopardise our chances of being accepted, even though it would mean we don’t get our money back back.... Avoid this agency if you are a first-time renter. Back when my partner and I tried to rent through this branch, they took a £500 holding deposit. My partner unexpectedly failed a credit check due to hidden history. Instead of returning our deposit, they kept the entire £500, falsely claiming the application was 'abandoned' to justify swallowing it. They then used a breakdown claiming a £365 'admin fee' and a £312 'referencing fee' for a tenancy that never even started. Taking advantage of young, inexperienced renters like this is completely illegal under today's Tenant Fees Act, but it was highly predatory and unethical even then. WARNING to all rental tenants. Beware! This company dig-in to vet tenants but do not vet their landlords. They lumbered me with a psychotic landlord, and Instead of dealing with their own dispute with her, left me to deal with untold harassment. I had to move out just to get away from the unhinged landlord. Portico did not step-in to help with any of it. The episode caused me and my family untold distress, affected my mental wellbeing and cost me a fortune. All the manager cared about was grabbing a tidy profit from the situation. Don't listen to the positive reviews, they do not care for tenants welfare, if things go wrong they will leave you high n dry. Bad people, bad company, don't grace them with your custom, save yourself and go elsewhere.... Read more
