Avoid at all costs. Rented us a propeety with a broken boiler then failed to resolve for 3 months during the winter with a newborn in the house. Then had an illegal installation of a boiler by an unqualified person and denied any liability when i queried them on it. Then failed to carry out any pre tenancy works. When we pushed back they ignored all claims of liability and the landlord had to step in to clear up the mess. Acted without morals or professionalism throughout. Never encountered such a poor operation. Do not rent via this business.... Read more

Great experience working with Scott Abrahams and Kevin Green! Scott has a great understanding of the market and did a good job at guiding us on sale price and process, and Kevin was a great thought partner in navigating the buy and sale process and ensuring buyer and seller expectations and understanding of things were very aligned. Kevin in particular was outstanding! With that said, not all Chestertons agents are this good. We appointed Chestertons after a personal recommendation from friends with whom they sold their property. We had already had a very negative experience with one of Islington's most famous Estate Agents (they know who they are!) and so terminated that contract and went to Scott and his team at Chestertons instead. It was a breath of fresh air with a totally managed service, excellent sales team and regular feedback and communication. It was the opposite approach to the previous agency and one which was successful at selling our house at asking- price. Guy found the perfect Buyer after many client viewings and their persistence and self-assurance maintained our confidence throughout the process (which is stressful enough anyway). Not once did Scott even consider reducing the price of our house as it had been priced properly in the first place, whereas the previous lot simply wanted to keep dropping the valuation until someone offered! We are grateful to Scott, Guy and the other members of the team at Chestertons; they got the job done!... Read more

They were brilliant from start to finish and very professional and more positive than many other agents we met before deciding who to go with. They also priced the flat much more accurately and achieved the asking price, whereas other agents were more bearish and seemingly less enthusiastic. terrible experience trying to buy a house with Chestertons. despite being registered with them for over two years we have missed out on off market properties that go to preferred clients. this impacts the vendor too who potentially misses out on a higher price by not offering to all the registered buyers. despite a frank discussion with the manager about this, it continues. on one occasion we were left waiting outside a property for an hour when the estate agent didn't turn up even though my partner had made a special trip back from working abroad to view. there was no apology or consideration for our time. rude and patronising.... After a good start and as the market conditions deteriorated they seemed to give up. A man of his word, a few months later his team did sell our house with a very marginal discount. Guy Harden was the lead agent and he would simply not give up. Unfortunately, there’s no option to award zero stars, so one will have to do. Myself and three fellow students renting a house in Islington have had the worst experience of our lives because of Chestertons. As mentioned in many other reviews, the communication is absolutely atrocious, for example, when they took over another agency that was handling our property, we got nothing from them about their takeover and so we were emailing an outdated email and wondering why we couldn’t get ahold of them. The communication we do get from Chestertons is rude and poorly lacking customer service and often threatening. Because we are students we are overlooked and not taken seriously and therefore we have suffered with many problems that frankly go against basic standards of living. Communication between landlord and tenant couldn’t be slower and couldn’t be more misunderstood when going through Chestertons. I would avoid this company at all costs, both tenants and landlord.... Me and 2 friends were looking for a flat to rent and I found the staff to be unhelpful, dismissive and rude. After viewing a property we submitted an application that day, but never heard back - even sent several follow-up emails asking for an update but heard nothing. Until I phoned up a week later to be told it had been let after the first viewing (would have been great to know!) Incredibly disorganised as I had never little points of contact throughout the process, the staff can get away with being disinterested and impolite as there is always going to be a demand on the flats they let. I’ve been trying to arrange a viewing for 3 weeks. Total waste of time, I’ve emailed and called several times, with staff telling me they’ll call me back and never hearing anything back. At some point I managed to get hold of someone and arranged a viewing for a certain time, i was told i’ll get receive a confirmation with the address. Deplorable service and etiquette. Had been a tenant for over a year now. Advised landlord to increase rent even though landlord reluctant to do so. Without notice inserts rent increase as an additional clause so as to avoid objection from tenants when extending term. Silent on the existence of such a new clause when signing. Erroneously accuses tenants of rent arrears and unapologetic thereafter. Recently received another email wrongly claiming my tenancy to terminate in a week, half a year earlier than the tenancy stated date. Never answers the phone, replies to emails weeks after. You would be pressed to find an agent with such poor business conduct and unhelpful staff in London.... Read more

Around a year ago we were looking to buy in the Islington area and when viewing properties with Chestertons we seemed to mainly deal with Stuart. Unfortunately we have never met an agent less interested in his job. He would play on his phone throughout viewings, rarely have an answer to our questions, never follow up as promised and was just generally dismissive and rude. It came to the point where we were deciding between offering on two properties and chose the one not on with Chestertons so that we didn't have to deal with him. Very frustrating experience. Went to view a flat with my daughter who is looking to buy. Both of us took time out to do so. The agent did not turn up . When my daughter called him he said he had called her on several occasions to say it was not possible to view the flat. He had called once but whilst we were on our way to the property. He did not leave a message or email. My daughter then agreed to view another property he suggested but he put the phone down without giving her the address. She called back several times. He eventually called her back saying he had left to meet us but had left his phone at his office and had had to return for it. He hadn't even given her the address so we could meet him! People make mistakes but this agent came across as not only totally incompetent and disorganised but also unconcerned as at no point did he apologise. Indeed he laid the blame at my daughter for not answering her phone. She was unable to do so as we were on the train with no signal. Do not rent from them! After being a wonderful and paying tenant for over 3 years, we had moved out and had our place professionally cleaned and all bits repaired etc. They then tried to take £446 out of our deposit for random nonsense stuff that they claimed needed fixing, including a £216 charge for cleaning the property. We had 2 people clean for 4 hours (for around £100) only a day before. Completely criminal how they are trying to make their fees here and there. If they respond to this with justification etc... it's all BS, as I've worked in the industry for 14 years. And this is clearly just how they make an extra couple hundred quid from each tenant, knowing they'll just acquiesce and move on. Avoid.... Read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! We have had the unfortunate experience of renting a property from Chesterton’s in Fulham for 3 years. The rental price was £9,000 per month and the entire service from start to finish has been nothing short of shambolic especially considering the premium nature of this property. The entire experience was a disaster from start to finish. Start of term: The property was left in a filthy and disgusting condition. The oven had leftover burnt food still in it and was caked in grease, there was a drawer of children’s clothing left in the bedroom, stains all over the walls etc… During renting term: Every time we reported a fault, they would send the cheapest tradesman, unsurprisingly they often were unable to fix the problem, example a plumber turned up without any tools to fix a leaky toilet… Ending of contract: As part of the check in and check out process we had to pay for an independent surveyor to complete an inventory report. However Chesterton’s tried to ignore the report and attempted to charge for damages which were already present and detailed on the independent report. I sent them a long detailed email explaining each page of the report as supporting evidence against their claim. They did not even bother to read this email and continued arguing without reading the check out report for another 2 weeks. Finally 5 weeks after the contract ended the deposit amount was agreed. We then completed the Chesterton’s form with all bank details….. they have now sent the £16,000 deposit to a completely different bank account to the one we provided and refuse to investigate where the missing money is. Colette O'Sullivan then gets extremely aggressive and rude when on the phone saying that there is nothing she can do and she will now “hang up the phone” …. Extremely professional!! Throughout the entire experience there has never been an apology, I suspect this is a defence tactic in order to avoid legal claims!! The employees involved in this experience which you should avoid at all costs are: Gary Noone, Aisha Ahmed and Colette O'Sullivan. Although having dealt with Chesterton’s for 3 years I am yet to come across a single competent employee. Expect the worst service of your life! Honestly I am shocked by their arrogant, aggressive, rude and completely incompetent staff. They all read from a pre- set script and you can expect to hear phrases such as: “ let me tell you how this works”, - In relation to them trying to teach me about the inner workings of the legal system, despite the fact that they have barely a GCSE between them. “we are going around in circles” – when you have a strong case for action to be taken and they refuse to accept any responsibility or provide any solution. “ I am trying to help you” – used with an attitude in an aggressive manner as if they are doing me some great favour by finally answering my 15th phone call without any response. “ you have emailed me 3 times” said again in an aggressive manner, yes because unfortunately you do not reply to my emails! As an expat living in London for the first time I was unfamiliar with the process and quite nervous from stories shared by coworkers. I worked with Ronan Rigney on my initial move from the States to London last year. He explained all of the intricacies and differences in different property types, contract structures, standards terms and conditions. I felt extremely confident and comfortable when it came to submitting an offer and signing the contract. When my first lease was up, I didn’t consider browsing different sites and letting agencies. We have bought and sold a few houses now in London and we have used an array of agents as per many, and I can honestly say that Chestertons (we dealt with Oli De Wan) were first rate and have really stood out from the crowd. We went joint agency given experiences elsewhere and didn't want to put our eggs on one basket, next time I won't bother and I'll come straight here. They were realistic around price at the outset which is the key element for me, we weren't given some silly figure like so many do, there was a 'strategy' for selling the house which amounted to far more than the standard 'bring everyone round' tactic and the levels of communication were spot on, a weekly call and so on. They provide very poor services. They never got anything on time when we asked them to handle our request. But if they needed anything from us, they expected us to get back to them ASAP, like within 30 minutes...Why would it take days for us to get a respond from them then? Before we decided to take the property, they told us that a parking area would be included in the flat initially, which turned out to be wrong. So the agent said they wouldn't charge their commission, but sneakily they included it in the initial payment. I wanted it back, but given it'd take so long to get a response from them and it's very frustrating and irritating, I decided not to raise the point. Now I wish I did that because there was another upsetting event caused by them. So when I moved out from the flat, my flatmate found a new tenant and the landlord was very happy with the new person. We contacted the agent and asked for a tenancy swap. No one answered to our request for weeks and in the end they told us it would take them 6 weeks to process a tenancy swap request. It's been over 4 months and they still haven't done it. Maybe estate agencies are all the same, but I really don't recommend this agency.... Read more

A two week delay in following up on an inquiry, lack of aligning with client needs, show up unprepared to answer basic property questions, zero knowledge to share about the area to share with prospective viewers and is inconsistent in booking viewings after verbal commitments, wasting client's time by showing up with an agent present. Essentially, the sales team (when they show up) are glorified "door openers". I hope both buyers and sellers reconsider using Chestertons as the sales team's commissions are undeserved for the work they do. We moved in a week ago to a property let and managed by Chesterton's and unfortunately have had quite a disappointing experience thus far. The initial viewing and offer process was good with Nikki (although we couldn't get into the flat the first time) but it rapidly went downhill from there. There were many bait and switches (e.g., items promised to be left by landlord but not), no flexibility at all on a one-sided contract, and finally the flat was left in terrible condition. Many items that were meant to be fixed before move-in was told to us after the contract was signed and simply stated there was "no time" to do it prior to the tenancy (indeed they encouraged us to move in early!) - none of the bathroom doors nor the bedroom door close at all, there is a giant hole in one bedroom wall, protruding nails/floorboards throughout, etc. Coordination to fix these has been very slow thus far. Seems like Chestertons goes to great pains and indeed even lie for landlords, not so for renters. Buyer beware.... Read more

I couldn't recommend Chestertons - and Scott in particular - any higher. Everyone's familiar with the bad rap agents get, but Scott couldn't have done more to put that cliche to bed. He was honest, open, incredibly responsive and was always on hand to help - and he wasn't even representing me! The place I ended up buying was actually somewhere I'd decided not to view but a gentle nudge from Scott and here we are a few months later having completed. He responded quickly to every call or email, and answered any query promptly, liaising well with the vendor, the solicitors and us, the purchasers. He or his colleagues showed our family the property on several occasions and always gave us plenty of time to consider things without being pushy. Scott initially showed this flat as an extra to the one we had asked to see, and it turned out to be just what we wanted. I can only say positive things about Chestertons Islington. All the agents were not only charming but extremely professional. Communication was excellent with prompt response by email or phone if or when there were any queries. I have to add that the agent that clinched the deal for me was totally on the ball, keeping me informed of all matters relating to the sale of my flat almost on a daily basis. Absolutely awful. We've had the worst renting experience with this agency, they have been so slow to attend to any issues that we had to resort to fixing ourselves, the check in check out service they suggest using is biased towards overcharging for cleaning. The cleaning companies they use don't do a proper job. They overcharge for every service they get involved with. On a 6 month tenancy they started viewings 2 months before the end insisting on coming round sometimes twice per day and not booking appointments in batches to avoid annoyance. We are still waiting for our deposit to be returned after 7 weeks of departure. The list goes on and on. They don't reply to emails, are arrogant on the phone, made us wait for 9 hours when we arrived after a 24 hour flight for checkin. Never fixed anything, left us very disappointed and wasted a lot of time when dealing with their scams to over charge us for checkout cleaning.... Read more
