Put an offer in on a house with Connells and we were told we needed to come in branch for a discussion about the mortgage. Despite advising them that we already had a broker, we were effectively harassed into using theirs and told we wouldn’t get the house if we didn’t use their in-house broker (for a fee, of course).
We went through an hour-long meeting only to be told at the end that an older woman had put in a cash offer and we were very unlikely to get the house. The mortgage broker told us how much she was offering and we were then cajoled into upping our offer (and made to do so by being stood in front of the agent like school children), but still didn’t get it - I think they were always going to advise going for the cash offer (which is fair enough), but just wanted to use us to up the price.
We were then subjected to frequent phone calls asking us to keep looking for houses with them, despite my partner repeatedly telling them we had stopped looking for the time being.
It’s all for the best as we found a house with a great agent, but the whole experience has completely put me and my partner off even looking at a house with Connells again.
Edited to reflect response from Connells: both points made in the response were already addressed in the original review; we were made aware there was another interested party, but only after sitting through an hour-long meeting during which there was no mention of our slim chance until the very end, and we were pressured to drop our current mortgage adviser and agree to sign on with Connells’ as it would ostensibly better our chances of having our offer accepted.
I also appreciate the vendors make the final decision on the buyer (and, as aforementioned, can understand why they would opt for a cash buyer), but to imply the agent has no influence is untrue. We effectively felt like pawns coerced into upping our offer with false hope in order to get an increased offer from the cash buyer, which is what happened.
These things do happen, and we had already had a purchase fall through so we are acutely aware of that, but the way it was handled by Connells was sub-par. This is not the isolated experience implied, as several people we have discussed this with since (some of whom work in allied occupations) have said that poor service is standard for Connells as a whole, and there is a review before mine touching on a similar experience with your mortgage advice.... Disgusting and vile company. Don't think customer service is in these guys vocabulary. Initiating a screaming match and slagging other agents off because I wanted to remove my details from their system. Far from professional.
Whispers to vendors about all these wonderful potential offers, what offers? The offers they are making up perhaps for a house thats been on the market for 4 months and had to bring in another agent to get it sold.
Tanked our offer by initiating conversations with the vendor in regards to offers that weren't proceedable, if they aren't proceedable they aren't an offer... when pulled up on it states thay haven't spoken to the vendor for 3 weeks! Not only is that 100% false but saying you haven't spoken to a vendor for that amount of time when you are trying to sell their house is awful!
Absolute shambles of a company, would never want to put any money into their pockets.
Update: despite me asking multiple times to remove my details from their records I have now had the branch manager phone me to make comments about this review. Fantastic to see the lack of professionalism is still very apparent... Read more

After our initial enquiry, Mike gave an accurate idea of pricing and invaluable advice on how best to market the property and what needed doing beforehand, followed by regular updates on the sale and advice when problems arose. The rest of the team (Savannah, Matt and Will) have also been excellent as they coordinated an open day, arranged multiple viewings and ensured potential buyers could view the property when required. Altho the initial sale fell through (not due to an estate agent problem), in both cases they found a buyer within 2 weeks of the property going on the market.
