Countrywide have provided a great service and managed to sell our rental property within 3 weeks. I liked that they are advertising online but also still provide cards in their window for older generations who don't have smartphones. The desk staff were pleasant and obliging.. However, Countrywide assessed the value of the property @ 125k which, I believe, was over optimistic and designed to capture our custom. We decided to sign up with Countrywide on their ‘Fixed Fee’ contract, which seemed to dictate a lesser interest in selling the property than a percentage based contract. We also had to press them to put up ‘For Sale’ signage outside the property on a number of occasions a prominent position. Countrywide identified an interested customer but that customer was already part of a chain and seemed to be known to the agents and was pushed by them. We were pressed to continue with this customer until the sale of their property was concluded. We foolishly agreed to this but after six or seven weeks decided to seek another vendor but there was no enthusiasm on the part of the agents to re-energise the marketing of our property. All this led to our dropping the price and even then we again had to push the agent to erect appropriate signage outside the property. The property has now sold to the customer who originally placed an offer although the contract has not yet been concluded. On the whole we would never engage Countrywide to sell a property again. Overall the property has taken a year to sell and this is all against a backdrop of similar properties in the area selling, on average, in less than three months. It is, I would suggest reasonable to say that their marketing strategy did not go beyond placing the property on a number of property databases. It would be a matter of serious consideration for anyone to recommend Countrywide as an agent.... Read more
