We were incredibly fortunate to have Tom Yeomanson at Douglas & Gordon support us throughout the whole sale and conveyancing process. He is hands down the best estate agent I've ever dealt with. He knows the Clapham market intuitively and was in constant contact during the sale process.
We had a roller coaster ride with our buyer and Tom was the voice of reason throughout, giving brilliant guidance and generally keeping us sane. He's a credit to Douglas and Gordon and we would recommend him to anyone wanting proper support when buying/selling in SW London.

Not entirely sure of the form or etiquette here, but if I were to sell another property in this area, I wouldn't waste the 4 months that I did this time round going to the cheaper fees, publicly traded estate agents first (no names, but rhymes with shmavilles), I would IMMEDIATELY call Xander and team.
D&G where leaps and bounds ahead, and from valuation through to completion my transaction was handled with utter professionalism. Cant recommended Xander & Celia enough, so much so, this is my first ever review I have bothered to write. Thanks for help!

* - After posting my original review, Miles from the Battersea branch of Douglas & Gordon reached out to apologise and review what happened. I'm of the opinion that everyone makes mistakes from time to time, but the measure of a brand is how they apologise & attempt to resolve them. To their credit, I've been impressed with the urgency & sincerity they've demonstrated. Based on that, I've amended my review to 3/5 and would be willing to try them again in the future.
Original Review Summary - if a customer ever tells you they feel a little let down, a response of 'Well I'm not going to apologise because I don't feel I've done anything wrong' isn't going to be received well!
Our experience of using Douglas & Gordon wasn't consistent with the majority of reviews here. This is principally down to one of their representative's (Morgan). Specifically, he called at 1600 and asked would we willing to increase our bid on a rental property. I advised I'd need to check with my partner who finished work at 1730. Morgan advised that wasn't going to work because a decision needed to be made ASAP, so I asked could he call back in 30 minutes. Just under 2hrs later, he rang back and asked were we going to increase our bid. I would have expected at minimum an explanation for calling late, but gave him the benefit of the doubt when one wasn't forthcoming. We didn't increase our bid so he advised he'd keep looking for us. Fair enough.
A week later, we requested a viewing with a different property, only to be told it had been taken off the market. Totally get these things happen and Morgan suggested a different property. At this point, my girlfriend and I had several viewings booked and acknowledged whilst he was trying to be helpful, we were getting viewing fatigue and would get back in touch if we saw something we wanted to arrange. Morgan suggested this was short sighted as property can become available up to a week before it's listed online. Totally makes sense, however, the way Morgan was coming across felt quite persistent, so at this point I suggested there was also the fact I asked to be called back within 30 mins previously and he called 2hrs later so I felt a little let down at the time.
To be clear, I wasn't precious about the delay, rather the lack of acknowledgement. If he'd said at this point he didn't realise or something short notice came up, it would have been understandable, but instead he suggested he didn't feel he had anything to apologise for. This despite me indicating I felt an apology, or at least an explanation was warranted.
Sometimes people don't gel for all sorts of reasons and no doubt Morgan has great relationships with some of his other customers. It's a shame I didn't get to experience this, but hopefully this review will help him improve for the future. In the end, we got the service we wanted, but from Hamptons Estate Agents instead.

Lucinda was very fast and efficient at getting back to us when we enquired on a property to rent in the area. She was happy to send videos and also happy to organise a viewing very quickly and in time that worked well for us. She also answered all our questions during the viewing, and arranged viewings for alternative properties whilst we are there so that we could see a full range of properties.
We also could not fault Lucinda on her communication from putting in our offer for the flat all the way to moving in. She was clear and professional and made sure all our wishes were put in the tenancy agreement. Any questions we had she was quick at replying. I appointed Douglas and Gordon to sell my flat in Clapham after the first Estate Agent I employed, for a lower fee, failed to attract any serious buyers. From the start I thought Douglas and Gordon were very knowledgeable about the area, realistic about the price, organised and efficient, the sales brochure and photographs were finished promptly, with the minimum of fuss and were very good quality. The sales team were effective in arranging a number viewings from prospective and serious buyers and took care of all the COVID precautions so the visits were safe. We received a number of realistic bids. Celia Barkshire from the Northcote Rd office was the stand-out sales negotiator who attracted the best bidder and then negotiated the best offer, higher than we expected. After we accepted the offer Celia was very proactive and helpful during the legal process, property survey and through to exchange. She communicated often and well with the buyer and myself and was always on the case to push things along and assist to resolve my queries and also those of the buyer. Good service and performance from Celia and the people at Douglas and Gordon.

Finding a London rental you actually want to live in is pretty hard. I had expected the search to be relatively easy and straight forward but there always seems to be some detail on rightmove missing and the perfect property turns out to be a waste of a journey. We phoned Lucinda at Douglas & Gordon Battersea who was polite and able to answer all our questions and reassure us of the details we needed. Other agents didn't make the effort or didn't have the time but Lucinda promised to call us back as she listened, understood our requirements and had a property that sounded ideal of us. Sure enough a week later we got a call and Lucinda showed us round an idyllic property. Lucinda was courteous, approachable, knowledgeable and helped us through all the stages of renting property. My first meeting with Leah Purchase (that really is her name but she is not about the hard sell!), one is immediately drawn to her voice and how respectful she is to both the buyer and the vendor. She knows the entire process that takes place from both perspectives and isn't just trying to 'tick boxes'. She listens to what one's background is, understands that London has a different landscape in the various areas and tries to guide in the right direction.
This real estate agency, Douglas and Gordon Battersea, seems to have agents who are very patient way of dealing with unknowing buyers and so, one can ask any question, without feeling inferior. They understand that what a buyer may be used to in one country may not be how the procedure is in this country.
Leah has a great asset in that she listens and then has energy to help make this all important purchase into a positive event. Pretty hard to find agents like that here or in the US.

We rented a property for a two year contract beginning August 2016 and ending August 2018. The way things are ran has not changed in those two years so I would avoid for the following reasons:
1. I think the trust was broken from the beginning. They held back information about an on going legal claim due to the structure of the property being affected by the neighbouring building that would have caused us to need to move out with little notice had a settlement been reached. We were only informed about this after we paid our deposit and it was too late to back out without losing money despite asking the agent if they knew why previous offers have fallen through and the place being on the market for a while.
2. During our tenancy agreement we had mentioned to the agent that we wanted the sofa and coffee table removed from the property as we already had our own. She said that the landlady would be fine with that. It turned out that once again we had been misled to believe that so that the agent would seal the deal.
3.During our time there we had a number of people managing the property because people kept leaving. It was difficult to contact them and I remember at the beginning they took ages sorting out things so they clearly do not push for the tenants rights. (i.e. we had to live without a bedroom door for 3 months)
4. One of the agents passed on our contact details to third parties, i.e. surveyors that the landlady wanted to come and visit the property without our consent so we kept receiving calls from surveyors and mortgage brokers to arrange time to come visit our property.
5. when we said we wanted to leave a number of the agents were trying to arrange viewings without giving 24 hour warnings.
6. Finally the landlady did not want any money deducted from our deposit but when we received our deposit we found out that 7% of the 6 week deposit had been deducted by Douglas and Gordon without our consent or any prior detail given. We consider that Natasha from Douglas and Gordon had ample opportunity to bring this up in the various emails exchanged and this was a hidden fee.

High quality service, great value for money and a focus on results are the key attributes of Douglas & Gordon’s Northcote Road branch. That’s what my wife and I experienced as we navigated the difficult process of selling ahead of separation and buying two new homes. Thomas Howe and his team exceeded our expectations, got us an offer at our asking price within three days and proactively managed the chain and the other agents so that we will be completing 14 weeks after putting the property on the market. Which is astonishing when you think about it.
Estate agent charges range from 1.5% to 2.5% in the Battersea area. D&G are mid-range at 2% but when one considers what they did, their value for money was exceptional. Thomas and his team devised and executed a marketing strategy for our property, secured 17 viewings in three days (with another 12 lined up for the rest of the first week had we not accepted an offer), proactively head-hunted our eventual buyer, suggested a house swap with our buyer to my wife (on which they knew they would get no commission), and resolved every problem in the chain within 48 hours of it arising.
Sincerity isn’t a term often used to describe estate agents, but sincerity, transparency and responsiveness characterise the culture that Thomas has developed at the Northcote Road branch. And sincerity breeds trust – as does Thomas’s intimate knowledge of the local market and its housing stock, his active database of potential buyers and his calm confidence in our property and its true value.
The most impressive aspect of the D&G service is team work. Every member of the enthusiastic sales team viewed our property, even if they weren’t directly involved in selling it. Admin is quick and on point. The team delivers a service until completion, with none of the ‘hand-offs’ to invisible back office staff favoured by other agents. And then there is Oliver Mason. It was Oliver who head-hunted our buyer. It was Oliver who selflessly suggested the house swap that proved so crucial in keeping the chain simple and secure. Simply put, Oliver is an extremely intelligent guy who has real empathy with people and property and sprinkles magic on his way to getting the right result for sellers and buyers alike.

We also had the pleasure in dealing with Tom Howe, the manager of the D&G Battersea branch during the final negotiations. Like Oliver, he was professional and understanding. Having gone through this process on a couple of occasions with different agents in Battersea, we felt that Douglas and Gordon were confident that they can sell their properties, and therefore their focus was finding the right match for us.
Because of Oliver and Tom, the purchase was completed in approximately 3 weeks. We cannot thank Oliver and Tom enough for their hard work in getting the deal done and would wholeheartedly recommend them either as a buyer or a seller.

They are all very rude and horrible! I am the owner of the property on Battersea Rise. They sold the flat above my flat and 3 times they damaged my external wall by displaying their SALE AGREED and SOLD signs! I have asked them politely NOT TO DO THAT WITHOUT GETTING MY PERMISSION for their FREE ADVERTISING AND MARKETING when it happened the first time. They just ignored my plea and kept doing that again and again causing me a great distress! Well, THEY HAVE LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER WHEN I WANT TO SELL MY PROPERTY AND THEY HAVE ALSO LOST ME AS A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER TO RENT MY PROPERTY THROUGH THEM AS WELL!!!!!

Sophie and Annabel were great in helping us secure the property we wanted to rent. They were friendly and efficient. Now we are in, the aftercare service team (Seanna) has also been fantastic. In comparison to previous dealings with other 'bigger' agencies who seem to charge ridiculous prices for bad/no service, we have been really pleased and surprised by their professionalism, and love that they don't charge ridiculous amounts. Highly recommend.
