Joshua from the Sloane Square branch has been incredibly helpful with my house-hunting process, promptly arranging viewings every time I inquired. He is also very friendly and easy to talk to, making communication with the landlord smooth when negotiating the offer. Absolutely useless from start to finish. Rented a flat through Hamptons Sloane Square and they may be helpful when first viewing a property, but everything quickly changes. They implied I may not have the right to live in the UK (despite providing a British passport), there were constant issues with the property which were badly handled by the maintenance team who are very difficult to contact (the property was actually unsafe at one point due to an old gas pipe that had not been closed off correctly), staff are actually quite passive aggressive, and finally I'm still waiting for my deposit to be processed despite having left the property over three weeks ago and extensive contact with their end of tenancy team. Terrible customer service- even if I found the perfect rental, if it was managed by Hamptons, I would run a country mile.

I am a renter with Hamptons, and I really enjoyed my initial experience with them. First, they only provided one key when I moved in, and the porter was concerned that they did not have a spare. I had an incident where a maintenance worker gave my key to the porter and gave me the wrong apartment number. Leaving me completely stranded out of my apartment. I ended up having to book a hotel to wait for the porter who was on duty to come in the next day and tell us that they told him a different apartment number. I had to pay an unnecessary expense out of pocket. When I tried getting Hamptons involved, they were not responsive and still have not offered any solution or help in the matter.

Quick update (7 months later) that despite Hamptons’ quick reply to this review, our issues have not been resolved and a director has not reached out to me. Again, total failure. The broken ice machine is “impossible” to replace, paint is not touched up, ugly mirrors still in house. Just avoid this agency!

Our experience with Hamptons has been terrible. I’ve never had such a bad rental experience, even as a student renting budget apartments. Broken promises, disrepair, and general hassle abound.
We are great tenants who agreed to a two year lease paid in 6-month installments and a large deposit to cover our 2 cats. We were really chill in agreeing to the terms, not foreseeing any problems. I now totally regret not adding in a break clause bc it’s a horrible situation.
Here are a few anecdotes representative of our experience with Hamptons:
I first knew it was going wrong when the Hamptons agent told us she would arrive at the property in the morning of our move in with the keys. She showed up around 5pm (after I called her ~4 times) and blamed the previous night’s office Christmas party... ???? They clearly run a tight ship.
Before we signed for the house, the same letting agent from Hampton’s promised that damaged paint in our entryway and a few other spots would be “touched up” prior to our move in. It never happened. When we took possession of the property, I asked her why it hadn’t been done and was given vague excuses. After about a month of asking, we were told that the wall had been “wiped down,” but the marks wouldn’t come off. The touch up would be too obvious on the old paint, and they were unwilling to repaint the wall. This touch up was basically the one condition we had in taking the house. If we had known that the landlord was unwilling to do something so basic as a touch up to badly damaged paint, we wouldn’t have taken the house. (I suspect that Hampton’s didn’t relay our touch up request to the landlord - so we got screwed.)
The built-in ice machine/water filter in the house was broken before we moved in. I’ve been asking for it to be repaired for nearly eight months and counting. It wouldn’t be such a crucial issue except that the broken machine stinks. Hamptons initially sent people to try to repair it, which didn’t work. Then they told us it would be impossible to replace. BS. They finally agreed to replace it, and now they’ve been sourcing a replacement for seven weeks and counting! Will this ice machine / water filter be replaced before our lease ends? Your guess is as good as mine. (And it’s clearly in our lease agreement that the landlord must maintain/replace the appliances in the house.) If we’d known we had a landlord who was unwilling to replace a broken appliance, we would have avoided this house. It’s another thing that Hamptons could have shared with us before we signed our lease (the agent already knew it was broken when we took possession and just sort of shrugged her shoulders about it).
We asked for the house unfurnished except for two twin beds, yet the previous tenant left three antique mirrors affixed to the walls. These mirrors are obviously furnishings, not fixtures. Hamptons didn’t bother to inform us that those would be staying until I asked (at move in) why they were still on the wall. Unfurnished means no furnishings, right? Apparently not to Hamptons. We’re now stuck with these mirrors, as Hamptons informed us that if we remove them, the damage caused by their installation (by the previous tenant!) would be our responsibility. They have been brutally screwed into the walls with a lot of damaged paint behind. We have also been told that we are just plain not allowed to move the one that blights our living room! Once again, if we had known that the mirrors would be left behind (if Hamptons had bothered to provide clarity and decent communication), we would not have rented this house.
Etc, etc, etc.
I gave Hamptons two stars because every so often they effect a quick repair. But often my emails go unanswered, and I have to chase them down continually for updates.

I got told I had to relocate for work with only a two week time frame, the lettings team at Hamptons Sloane Square, in particular, Charlie Blurton worked around the clock to find me a property at both the price i wanted, and one that fulfilled my fussy criteria. With every hiccup they were quick to resolve the problems and find alternative solutions. They made my move so much easier and their customer service is one of a kind. Charlie even offered to stay back to ensure I was able to collect my keys on the night of my arrival if no one else was available to do so. I am very happy with my flat, it was exactly as what was advertised and described to me. I will definitely be reccomending Hamptons Internationals to anyone who plans a move to or within London!
