If you're looking for an agent to rent your property I would definitely recommend Martin & Co Portsmouth. I've used them for a number of years now and they have always been excellent. It's also been nice to speak to the same person over the years James Elvin. He's always found me great tenants that I've never had a problem with and he's always been so efficient, reliable and quick.
I just had to give them a review. In fact they have never asked for a review but I just had to do this because I know its hard to find good reliable letting agents so I hope this will help someone looking for a good agent to trust with their property.

I can highly recommend Darren the Snr Sales Negotiator for his quiet professional attititude and quiet tenacity in getting this sale through. It hasn't been particularly easy but Darren has "managed" us all extremely well to achieve what I hope is an excellent outcome for all concerned and finally in a timeframe to suit us all. Through no fault of his I have ended up having to pay more in solicitor's fees but his communication skills and attention to detail have kept everyone on track and costs to a minimum. Disgusted at the way this branch treated me and allowed the landlord to get away with whatever he wanted. Only interested in what they were being paid, never the tenants interests
Edit - 10 June 2024: My deposit has just been fully refunded by the DPS, there were no damages or missing itmes, my landlord made them up and Martin and co once again washed their hands of it, knowing it was untrue. When I called on a number of times to state how unfair my treatment was, they all made me feel like a nuisance, or that I had done something wrong. In response to Mathew's comments, this is frankly untrue. Martin and Co have been collecting the rent on behalf of the landlord for the past 6 years, they take a fee to do this. They also take fees for rental agreement signings each year, organising safety checks, etc. and in the past have charged me huge credit check fees before these were outlawed. Why would any compmany engage in tasks that made them no money for 10 years? Of course they earned money. They chased me whenever the rent was a couple of days late, including throughout Covid-19 etc., I am self employed, and like many, struggled during this time, but over 10 years I never missed a months rent. They never asked how I was doing, no support, they just sent blunt, to the point, sometimes rude emails, demanding the rent money. However, I called to speak to Mathew on a number of occasions about the way the landlord was treating me. The landlord was a bully, did not do repairs, leaking ceilings etc. Mathew was not interested to talk to me, was always busy when I asked to speak to him and never returned my calls.This is my point about only making contact concerning money but never concerning my well being. Mathew could have spoken to me or my landlord on plenty of occasions to highlight my concerns but he never bothered. However, one negative review, and all of a sudden he has the time and inclination to communicate to reslove my concerns, surprising that, isn't it?

Everybody who works for them is always very polite and helpful.We dealt with Hayley while organising our tenancy she was amazing. This agency sold my mother’s retirement flat. I dealt with Darren, the senior sales negotiator. It took ages to sell, due to market conditions and delay caused by the freeholder, but Darren was very professional throughout. What was gold for me was his excellent communication, keeping me informed every step of the way and doing what he said he would do. It’s also worth saying that the agency’s commission on the flat was very small compared to some of the much higher value properties they sell, but I certainly didn’t get a second class service. Not all estate agents are the same. This is a very good one.

Martin & Co's listings on property search websites are very thorough and informative, with a very useful 360 degree walkthrough in my case. The photos of the property I bought were very accurate with no perspective trickery giving a false sense of size.
From our first viewing of the property, to the day we were handed the keys, Darren from Martin & Co took an extremely hands on approach with greasing the wheels of the sale. We ended up completing within two months of our first viewing, and in all honesty, a huge part of that success was made possible by Darren.
Without his support, attention to details and superb communication and liaison skills, the wheels would have turned a lot slower and we may have never successfully completed at all.
Thank you Martin & Co, and thank you Darren for helping use get our lovely new home. I'd absolutely recommend working with this company as both a buyer or a seller as they genuinely throw all they have to support both parties.

I recently purchased my first home through martin & co and the exspirence has been really postive and by far the best agent i have ever dealt with. Darren was super friendly and honest in all my viewings he listened to my requirements and contacted me when a suitable property became available. The process from first viewing to completion took just under 11 weeks and this is definitely down to Darren Dickinson his knowledge and expertise.He made recommendations of local solicitors based on his experience of selling other propertys rather than monatary gain like other agencys do and he put me in touch with people for a mortgage.
Later on during the sale I dealt with matt who would always get back to me promptly with any enquires and kept me informed throughout the whole process.

Being in the property business I came to depend upon Martin & Co for their advice, guidance and up-to-date letting information a great deal. Matt has helped me with various lettings since 2018. I came to know Matt and James really well since December 2021 when they helped me to let out one of my properties. Both Matt and James helped with supplying an excellent builder through a three and a half month refurbishment.
At no time was I kept waiting for receiving information crucial to my business such as cashflow options and James was very helpful and supportive when I needed to provide certain legal documents required before the letting could start.
The most important thing to me was the way I grew to trust James and Matt's advice and guidance which resulted in the most lucrative letting experience in all my years as a landlord for my best property. My first encounter with this letting agency was in early 2019 in which I was looking at student housing. Their system for tenants is easy to access, is user-friendly, and details information regarding the property very well. Any issues with any houses that they let are dealt with swiftly by the property management team, and this is aided by another system used by Martin and Co to report any issues through an accessible website; I had to use this website when a hob plate was playing up and within 24 hours (with my prior consent), the letting agency had the landlord fit a new hob in to the property.
My most recent experience with the Martin and Co team was within the past month where I had found a replacement tenant for myself and was looking to move out, James (Senior Negotiator) and Charlotte aided me in moving the new tenant and me out. This whole process would have been swift, but the issue that prolonged this experience is two housemates being very problematic with exchanging the tenancy (I moved out due to their behaviour in the house), though James - who I had most direct contact with - acted professional in their deviant attempts to get to me, and was able to solve the matter before the next rent instalment was due.
My whole experience with the team here has been positive, and I would recommend them to anyone looking at houses in the Portsmouth area, especially students. I would also like to commend James on how prompt his replies were, and how he dealt with the situation, as it would have been a headache for both the letting agency and myself.

The worst agency ever.
We had problems from the beginning, the landlord delivered us the flat without any basic cleaning, and today after a week we are BITTEN BY FLEAS that have infested the flat!!!
The agency, like the landlord said to help us, but my girlfriend and I just feel cheated.
Instead of push an emergency clean or call a professional pest control agency, the landlord waste time trying to buy a carpet vacuum cleaner, and the agency are not able to fix the problem, or simply they don't care.

Nothing but praise for Martin & Co - I recently viewed a property I was interested in renting. From start to finish James and Matt were great, their valuation was realistic and the time frame from us first agreeing to go with Martin & Co and our valuation being met with 2 offers. the information flow is great and they book all of the viewings via email that synced with my calendar so i was always informed of viewings. Really professional the photos and listings on Rightmove ETC were really good and gave a great impression of the house. I would highly recommend and will be using their service in the future

Had an absolutely fantastic experience with this estate agent. Very easy to contact and very quick response time. I only ever dealt with James and he was everything I could ask for in dealing with the process of selling my property... would use them again.

We have been dealing with James at Martin & Co for over 2 years to find tenants for our flats. He has always gone above and beyond his remitt to help us. James is extremely helpful, friendly and has a good deal of knowledge of the local market. We wouldn't use anyone else!

Unfortunately we have had many issues with our property, which is why we have been incredibly lucky to have Sam helping us. Since I was first in contact with Sam, she has been helpful, always going the extra mile, and seems to genuinely care about getting the property sorted for us.
She personally came round to inspect the property, and whilst she was here, she gave us solutions to every single issue we had.
Has been an absolute pleasure to be in contact with Sam throughout my tenancy!

Upon joining Martin and Co Portsmouth in 2012 as a tenant I was very disappointing with the service I received. However since the branch was purchased by new management and the introduction of completely new staff, the branch has become far more professional. Mr Berry, the branch manager, has a very proactive approach to business proving very reasonable and helpful.
In my opinion the branch is on its way back up having been driven into a very negative reputation. I would use again.

Terrible Estate agents. Extremely unprofessional and unresponsive. As tenants whenever you have a problem it is not dealt with, yet as soon as their is a problem that benefits them (usually involving money) they are quick to deal with it. All they are concerned with are making the most money out of you, certain problems have been so extreme we have considered taking them to court.

Terrible agents. Underhand and not trustworthy. I was a landlord with Martin and Co, Southsea and they failed on so many levels. Ignoring correspondence, failing to carry out proper inventories, failing to pay the rent on time into my account and never once did I receive any sort of apology or acknowledgement. I was always made to feel like I was a nuisance and should not be bothering them.

As a landlord I have found this particular branch to be awful.
They do not respond to emails, ignore questions ( that I have repeatedly asked over the phone and resent for up to 4 weeks) and have not followed their own terms of business which they hold me to account with.
I would have saved money if I had just kept the property locked up and not used them to manage the tenants I already had there when I brought them in.
