After deciding to move to a family plot, we engaged with Sworders, who we have used many times before, for planning advice for a replacement dwelling. After getting some initial stellar advice from Clare Hutchinson, I was introduced to Hazel Izod who had only recently joined Sworders. As a former planning officer, Hazel immediately gave me confidence with her very detailed knowledge of the planning policies and laws but also understands the perspective of the planning authority, therefore providing solid and balanced advice to achieve our aims. Hazel expertly guided us through the process, helping us to overcome obstacles, explain concepts and I felt truly brought into our vision, becoming a strategic partner with us on this very personal and important journey. Whilst others may be well versed in the policies Hazel can interpret them with a practical and pragmatic approach, ensuring all elements are considered (including taking the likely views of the planning officer into account).
Our application was successful on the first submission, and I have no doubt that this was largely down to Hazel’s expertise and input. We have subsequently instructed Hazel on various other planning applications (or preparation work) and have had the same impressive and responsive service. With one application, for a car port, the application was initially turned down due to the land we proposed building on being considered “open Hertfordshire countryside”. Within days of the refusal, Hazel had prepared a detailed and comprehensive appeal for the application, and the refusal was overturned.
