4th Nov 2025 (19 weeks ago)Alyson took over selling our house after we had problems with the previous agent. She was recommended to me by a neighbour and it was a difference of night and day! The previous agent hardly contacted us and appeared disinterested in the house, ignored our complaints, was completely unprofessional by bad-mouthing another local agent (in writing!) and tried to talk us into accepting a far lower offer than we wanted. Alyson, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of this agent. She is entirely professional and worked extremely hard. Even when things went a bit off the rails when an offer was withdrawn, she went right back to work and got us the price we were looking for. We were kept informed every step of the way. She was never unreachable. The previous agent may have been cheaper but it showed. You get what you pay for! I have no hesitation in recommending Alyson and Alexander Taylor Estate Agents to everyone who may be planning on selling their house in the future.

20th Jun 2025 (8 mo. ago)Unfortunately, we found our experience with Thorntons to be pretty disappointing. Our initial contact was fine, but we suspect the house was valued too highly, & after 11 weeks and 2 price drops, we still had not one single viewer. Our contact in the office was away on holiday, & when I rang to speak to the person appointed to deal with the house in the interim, she seemed clueless as to who I was or anything about the house. We took the decision to remove the house from Thorntons and advertise it at auction. We did this, & accepted an offer within a few days of doing so. We understand that the market in St Andrews is very flat just now, but feel that Thorntons did very little to try and help us achieve a sale.

6th Feb 2023 (3 years ago)If it was possible, I'd have given Abbey Forth zero stars. Here's my experience with them: The place I rented from Abbey Forth had not been cleaned when I moved in. It was in a disgusting state with several broken fixtures. I took many photos and informed them that, because I was having to clean my new flat, I wouldn't be paying for the place to be professionally cleaned when I moved out. Throughout my year at the property, they were unprofessional and unhelpful when other problems arose: trying to charge me for boiler repairs (a boiler which was leaking on day 1), failing to resolve a drainage issue outside the kitchen door and, worst of all, falling to resolve an infestation of slugs in the kitchen - an obvious health hazard. When I moved out, they unsurprisingly tried to deduct £190 from my deposit for cleaning. I successfully disputed this charge with the deposit scheme, using the pictures and emails I'd sent them over the length of the tenancy. The deposit scheme found that, as the property was not cleaned to a good condition for the start of the tenancy, that I should only having to pay £60 In summary: Abbey Forth is the worst estate agent I've ever used. Rude staff and a general ethos of trying to squeeze money out of tenants for as little effort as possible. Only sign up with them if you are desperate and have no other options. If this is the case, then please make sure you document everything for inevitable struggle to get your deposit back
9th Aug 2025 (7 mo. ago)I have been dealing with Val now for a little while as a person searching in the local area. Always found the team and Val in particular to be first class. Very knowledgeable and professional and one of the best around in my opinion. Respond time lightening quick and always makes you feel at ease with a very friendly manner 10/10 keep up the brilliant work.
27th Jul 2016 (9 years ago)The purpose of this review is not to be defamatory or be untrue it is simply an account of my experience of MacPhee & Co. So here is my sorry story. I employed MacPhee & co to sort out legally the custody of my daughter. While I had no problem as lawyers they were actually rather good. The problem started When I received a substantial bill, quite simply I felt they did not keep me informed as to what kind of fees they were running up. When after numerous and phone calls it became apparent that I couldn’t pay their fees straight away and despite agreeing that I pay in installments as quickly as I could. With 2 working days notice they resigned from the case leaving me unrepresented. Now in fairness they did give me a long time to pay the fees that was small comfort as due to trying to represent my self I lost nearly 50% of the access I had to my daughter prior to getting involved with them. This review is purely an account of my experience and I am not recommending you use them or not. The decision dear reader is yours. Finally despite legal letters promising all sorts of actions from them I’m still giving them one star.

We’ve been searching for a property to buy for a while, and I have to say Blair’s attitude, sincerity and knowledge were remarkable, genuinely some of the best I’ve experienced. It was clear he knew the property inside out, and his recommendations about the flat&building were really insightful. Highly recommended.

28th Jan 2026 (7 weeks ago)Awful experience. Collected money from owners for roof repairs that never happened, then walked away as factor while still holding the funds. Months of chasing for basic answers and a refund timeline. Communication is dismissive and contradictory, and getting a clear breakdown of what’s been spent and what’s being withheld has been like pulling teeth. Would not recommend to anyone.
