From the time they put my house on the market it wasn’t my home anymore. They make bookings and tell you when they are coming. They don’t ask if it’s convenient.
They will not always take no for an answer and I felt pressured at times to do what they say. A surveyer turned up at my house with no prior agreement.
I had to drop my house price weekly due to them telling me there was no one else interested in buying it
All in all they got the job done but are extremely pushy with n the process

Barnard Marcus massively over-valued our house compared with the market interest, and other estate agents. Once they got the contract they did very little to generate interest in our house, and seemed to constantly see the buyers’ perspective on things, including the sale price (!) & value for money. They also avoided direct contact (by phone) preferring Email, and we had to chase them up to find out what buyers thought. I think the tie-in sole agent period was 8-weeks, but when we realised we were getting nowhere with them, they insisted on the full further 4-week notice period. They tried a few tricks in the last few weeks to get us to low-ball our sale price. Finally, we switched agent to Humphrey & Brand, and sold the house for the full asking price within a week (even though it was mid December).

Very rude and unprofessional staff. This is based on my phone interaction as I called to arrange a viewing with the lettings team over the phone but instead was treated like a 2nd class citizen as I called at a time not convenient for them. After I asked several times what I need to do to be able to arrange the viewing, I was told off that I wasn't listening! to my surprise, and then eventually the person shared with me that I need to call at 9am in the morning. I will be also sharing my feedback with upper management as honestly we are all human and deserve to be treated with the same respect. The call only took 3 mins so I don't think I took too much of the person's time. My time is valuable too but the person who answered didn't seem to care.

This agency is totally unreliable and unprofessional . We saw a property and would like to go forward and they said landlord accept our offer but he is keen on to move to his property as soon as possible . As I would like to keep my word I gave my notice to the present agent before referencing , then after a week this agency ( Bernard Marcus) didn’t contact me and when I contacted they said that the property is gone because my referencing didn’t go through . I called referencing company and they said our referencing was successful. This agency wind me up easily . ????????

Quite literally the worst experience I've had with an estate agent. Pressured us into making an offer, told us we'd lose a property if we didn't do it within the hour. Then pressured us again to give them a holding deposit within the hour or they’d just give it to someone else.
After that they advised we'd secured the property and we were safe to cancel our other viewings - which should’ve been the only upside - but they then still took other offers, despite having already gone to sealed bids beforehand and telling us it was now off the market - kept negotiating until they had a higher offer than ours, and didn't tell us until two days later when we’d lost the house. Ridiculous.
We also then didn’t see our holding deposit again for 8 days.

We are completely appalled with the way we have been treated by Tom at Barnard Marcus in Surbiton. A complete lack of knowledge about extending the lease on a property, taking weeks to get back to us with details and seemingly no understanding that a buyer having to find an additional £12,000 upfront to pay for a lease extension would have significant implications in terms of what they are able or willing to offer an a property. And still without all the details, you pressure us into giving two offers based on different scenarios relating to the lease - neither of which we have the confidence in to be true! Do your due diligence please Barnard Marcus and do not speak to your customers with rudeness and arrogance.

started out great with property brochure and valuation, but the agent selected to sell the property was not remotely interested or motivated to sell the property, he would leave the house unattended once the viewing is finished, and had the audacity to lie to say he contacted me regarding viewings feedback when i've had no communication whatsoever.

A fantastic mortgage broker service delivered by Luke Bustin - While all the Surbiton branch staff were lovely and welcoming, special praise has to go to Luke. He delivered a faultless broker service all the way from booking our initial appointment to submitting our application. Professional yet highly personable, our appointment was incredibly detailed and as a first time buyer Luke answered every question I had with expertise and patience. He helped us create an affordable long term plan for our home that showed how much he cared about his clients. When discussing optional extras such as life insurance it never felt like he was trying to push a product on us or pressure a decision.
Overall Luke was a different class to the other broker we had spoken to and someone I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to everyone I know when looking for a mortgage!

I always get nervous when moving. There are so many things to remember and I want to make sure I'm making the right decisions for myself and my kids and for a fare price. I was so impressed and made to feel completely at ease with Barnard Marcus. The Manager, Nick was completely up front and honest with me, kept up a stream of consistent communication and made sure I had all the information I needed. Because of this, the whole process went quickly and smoothly and it gave me the peace of mind I needed at an already stressful time.

Fantastic service. I had my property with another agent. The tenants are moving out mid Feb. I had only one viewing in 4 weeks. I chose Barnard Marcus as I was impressed with The Manager’s knowledge and professionalism. From instruction to let it took 8 days. They generated 4 good viewings within 2 days of the photographs being taken and one of these made a full offer within 2 more days. The process for setting up the tenancy could not have been simpler. Selling my flat with Jo and Ben was a great experience.
At the start Jo was head and shoulders above the other agents I invited round to value the property, friendly and warm with extensive research and a better presentation of how she’d sell the property and the right pricing strategy. She also created a timeline with formal reviews along the way.
Before going on the market the entire team at the office, not just Jo and Ben, visited the flat so they were able to give a first-hand perspective to any buyers they were dealing with.
Then throughout the selling process responsiveness was excellent - I felt fully informed on what was happening and I had a detailed breakdown of web traffic and feedback from viewings.
Finally, as interested parties started to make offers these were dealt with extremely professionally and I always felt they were in my corner when it came to the negotiation. I was very happy with price agreed, and they achieved that three weeks after going on the market.
Overall I would rate Barnard Marcus very highly and would recommend them to anyone looking to put their home on the market.

The team at Barnard Marcus Surbiton all worked really hard to sell our flat. It was a tough market with lots of competition but the team kept working their contacts and we sold through Barnard Marcus after a few months hard work. Jo (branch manager) is particularly good at listening to your concerns as a seller and giving advice without being pushy. The after sales support we got from Kecia was outstanding and I don't think our sale would have gone through without it. It's not a done deal when the offer is accepted!

Appaling customer service. They ignore emails and refuse to admit making a huge mistake with the tenancy paperwork. From a renters point of view I would completley avoid these people unless you want to end up seriously out of pocket. Complaints procedure has taken over 4 months so far

Barnard Marcus should have been my first agent but I made the mistake of choosing an another because of their low fee, however you get what you pay for my property was empty for weeks, after speaking to Chrissie the lettings manager she was honest and transparent about everything. They let my property in 3 days. I paid a higher fee but money well spent. Thank you

I originally selected Barnard Marcus to sell my house, as after visiting most of the agents in Surbiton, they were the only one to have a number of suggestions on the options/strategies to use. They had clearly thought about the current market and how best to structure their approach to ensure viewings. I especially found the Branch Manager Joanne Hughes helpful and she was always willing to make time to talk through any questions I raised. Fantastic service on letting my house. I cannot speak highly enough of the team in Surbiton. I had struggled to let my house as I was moving abroad. From the moment I met the Lettings manager Chrissie I had confidence . She really knew her stuff. She gave me good advice including what insurance would. Be appropriate as I was going to be out of the country. The team did a superb job and found me long term tenants at the rent I wanted. The whole team were excellent.

I had my flat on with 2 other agents from September and no luck. Chrissie Thompson came round and saw it and made a number of suggestions about how to market it. I put the flat on with Barnard Marcus and within a week it was let. The whole team were very professional and the tenants moved in quickly with no issues at full asking price. They seem very honest and I was always able to get hold of them. Chrissie is really helpful and professional and I'm going to use them every time now.

We are in the process of selling our house through Barnard Marcus and Jo, James and the team have been brilliant. We were on the market with another agent for nearly 3 months and we had very few viewings and were really losing heart. When we spoke to Jo she had thoroughly researched the situation and generally impressed us, and they haven't let us down. These guys work hard! James didn't leave the office the first day until he had secured us a viewing and they maintained that level of enthusiasm and commitment. After 3 weeks we are under offer thanks to their efforts. Fingers crossed. Highly recommended.

I have just sold my property through Barnard Marcus Surbiton and I couldn't be happy with the service. There was a lot of other houses on the market in my area at the time with other agents that were taking months to sell. Jo came over and valued mine higher than the others but was confident they could achieve the price. I was a little nervous to begin with as I needed to sell fast, but I trusted Jo and I'm so pleased I did. The team are full of enthusiasm and were always on the phone updating me. James, Jo, Georgia and Jason are a true credit to the company. They sold my house within 2 weeks for the asking price!

I currently live in Epsom but have been thinking of moving to Surbiton to be closer to my grandchildren. whilst I was in the area at the weekend I popped in and spoke to James. He was really helpful and although he didn't have anything available at the time for me he has gone away to try and find me something. he took the time to find out what I wanted and has already called with some new apartments for me to view. Rarely write reviews but the experience I received through Barnard Marcus really helped me with my search. From sending a request to view from zoopla, to meeting James at the property and submitting my offer to Jo these guys can really teach the other agents in the area a lesson. Outstanding service from the whole office in Surbiton. My flat was on the market with two other agents beforehand and I only wish I had found these guys sooner. It would've saved me a lot of time! They delivered on everything they said they would and really listened to what I needed. They managed to get an offer far higher than I ever expected (of course there were a few people that tried their luck!). I truly couldn't ask for anything more from Jo, Jason and James. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

bad experience with BM. No communication along the process, no booking confirmations, addresses, no direct contacts to talk to, completely ignored after making an offer, ignored when asked for explanations...I never write reviews but I never felt so let down before. I found my place btw..clearly not thank to you.

A friend of mine had used these estate agent, and was done over when it came to the inventory leaving the property, when they moved in it was one page long, and then when they moved out it was thirty pages long, and i feel the decision they made with the landlord was deceptive and a team effort and my friends had been in the property for over four years so a bit of wear and tear which is normal
the inventory company works in the estate agents favor never the tenants!!!!!
