Very good communications from the local branch. We were pleased with how the local branch marketed our flat and kept us informed of viewings and feedback. Only negative was after we accepted an offer, responsibility for progressing the sale to completion was transferred to a central unit. This was frustrating as the communications from this unit were poor and slow.... Read more

We rented an apartment with BM in April 2021. The viewing was conducted by Kirsty. The landlady was adamant that we move in within 10 days or the apartment would be rented to another potential tenant so although this meant moving very quickly, we agreed to the landlady’s terms. The flat was gorgeous, and I was bowled over by it, but my partner was more cynical. At the viewing he noted a few maintenance issues, but our primary concern was that the property was located directly above a primary school playground so when we viewed the apartment the children were outside playing and it was extremely loud. As we both work from home should the noise be all the time, this wouldn’t be a conducive work environment for us, but Kirsty reassured us twice that the children would only be outside for an hour a day, on their lunch break. She also told us the maintenance issues would be taken care of and the property would be unfurnished. We arrived to move in and couldn’t access the property due to an emergency electrician blocking the entry.They had ten days to fix the electrics, and chose the morning of a move in to schedule the engineer. Our moving team couldn’t complete the job and we ended up having to move the majority or the furniture ourselves but pay them regardless. It was neither unfurnished or repaired. After a few days it became very clear that the children were outside all day. We thought this might be due to covid, but after a couple of patient months, I suspected we had been lied to, so I decided to enquire at the school and was informed that due to the size of the playground this particular school has always rotated the children’s playtime. At that point we decided that the flat would be in inhabitable for us, and we would have to move out. We approached BM and asked to end the tenancy early and they took the steps to make this happen albeit refusing to acknowledge Kirsty’s negligence . On a plus, they agreed to wave a huge exit fee, on the provision that we hosted the viewings. Whether Kirsty from BM knew about the children or not is unclear, but what is clear is that Kirsty did not do her due diligence, and simply told us what she knew we needed to hear to push through the sale. It’s her responsibility to provide accurate information about the listings she’s showing, and be honest about what she doesn’t know. BM constantly dodge calls, ignore emails and make false promises to do things, like transfer money back to you, that don’t actualise. We had to chase them for seven weeks to get our deposit back. It is now 3 months since we moved out and we are still receiving rent arrears letters, and threats that we will be taken to court. It is BM’s responsibility to inform the arrears team that we have moved out and despite several emails to both the arrears team and the manager of the Earlsfield branch to request that the team are notified of our exit , we are still receiving letters. We don’t owe anything, and the property has had new, paying tenants occupying it since we moved out in August, which we found for them to help make the transition as smooth as possible. The fact that we are still receiving these letters is testament to the poor communication and service we have learnt to expect from BM. I could go on and on about my experience, which has been utterly horrific from start to finish. We now rent through another agency and I cannot begin to explain the difference in our experience. Calls promptly returned, the property checked prior to us moving in and terms of the rental agreement actually abided by. Not to mention, important and legal documents, promptly sent to us on moving in. I still have never received a gas safety certificate from BM. Having now experienced how things are done properly, I recognise just how bad our experience really was with BM. I have never received such an unprofessional and sloppy service in the ten years I’ve been renting in London and needless to say would never rent through BM again.... Read more

The team that I worked with are exceptional. Fin is a credit to his profession - highly professional, reliable, has integrity and is very personable and knowledgeable. He found me the perfect house and was always available for additional viewings, answering questions and being supportive and helpful. Annabel, who is the Sales Progressor, went out of her way to ensure that deadlines were met and kept me updated throughout the process. She has the patience of a saint and is calm and reassuring and genuinely cares about keeping her clients happy, in spite of the tremendous pressure she is under. Unfortunately quite disorganised. Forgot to do things eg EPC. Constantly chasing them for info. Needed more and better staff. Would only show the property to people who had asked to see it, instead of and as well as, speculatively with a group of properties - this is how we found the buyer in the end, and through a different agent.... Maria sold our 3 bedroom flat recently. It was a pretty straightforward sale although it never seems like that at the time. We were encouraged to be realistic regarding pricing which resulted in attracting serious buyers who proceeded with the sale.
