I was never of the opinion that purchasing a house would be straightforward, but I also didn’t expect to take 7 months to get my keys for a property that was already vacant! As one can imagine, I had a range of emotions during that time (not always positive), but now that I have settled in and can reflect on the process, I have a few things to say.

Firstly, I love my property, so well done Barnard Marcus for having such a gem on your books. The team at Barnard Marcus were professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the flat and really worked with the seller and me to have my offer accepted. Even my additional requests that could have easily been ‘deal-breakers’ for the seller were put forward and accepted by the seller, and I know that it is down to the skillful negotiation of the BM team. However, all the excitement died down after my third month when everything went quiet and I worried that the seller was going to pull out. Thankfully, Matt was newly assigned to my case and since he came on board, he was nothing short of amazing. Matt took a personal interest in closing this deal and tactfully navigated all parties to get things moving along. But the waiting continued, and after waiting another 3 months and realising that Matt was going on leave with no exchange date agreed (down to bad timing really), I worried that this deal was going to fall through because both the seller and I were frustrated with the delays. Before he left, Matt assured me that we were close to closing and passed me over to his capable colleague Elliot in his absence. I was cynical but Elliot proved Matt right. Elliot got into action and made the deal happen. In less than 2 weeks I had my contracts to review, exchanged and completed. Nothing short of a miracle in my opinion. But what really stood out to me was Elliot’s commitment even after the deal was closed. Elliot personally visited the flat and arranged to have the garage emptied and cleaned (I think he did some of the work himself too). And even on my moving day when I needed a moving truck at short notice, Elliot came to the rescue and had someone there within 2 hours. Now if that isn’t dedication and great customer service, then I don’t know what is.

And to Paul Simey of Connells Group (based at the BH office), my amazing mortgage advisor. Thank you for making this process an easy one. Nothing was ever too much trouble for you. You were responsive, patient and knowledgeable and always ensured I have all the information to make an informed decision.

And of course to Sashan, for taking all my calls over the last 7 months, trying to find out the answers for me when your colleagues were away, and never getting annoyed once. You rock!

Barnard Marcus and their entire team have been exceptional throughout what has been a very frustrating set of circumstances. Due to a number of unforeseen delays and complications we ended up waiting for 8 months to complete on an empty and unoccupied property with no chain. Everyone from our Bank, Solicitors and “Help to buy” were awful, making countless mistakes which ended up costing us weeks at a time. Barnard Marcus and their estate agent team were always in the background, chasing, clarifying and sometimes just exercising shear will power to push this property to completion.

A special thanks to Elliot Purcell who I could tell had become as emotionally invested in our purchase as we were over the 7 months he was facilitating it. Throughout this process he has been honest at all times whilst offering me frank and simple explanations where my own solicitors had failed. His level of communication was above and beyond making sure that I was always in the loop on developing problems. I can honestly say that I had an immense feeling of relief whenever Elliot called me as I knew he would be fighting to sort the problem.

Due to the difficult nature of this purchase more than the usual amount of pressure was placed on Barnard Marcus’s mortgage advisor Paul Simey. Again, he provided us perfect service and was a constant source of advice through what I remember was some very stressful months. We ended up having to complete 2 mortgage applications due to unforeseen circumstances and he took each in stride quickly and efficiently.

Wouldn't recommend AT ALL. My friend and I did an offer for one of their properties for rent. After few days the offer got accepted. Then the referencing process started and it took FOREVER. Never once we were updated on the developments of the process! We wrote plenty email ( maybe just one of them got an answer)and called the agency numerous times ( it's super hard to get through letting, they take your number and never call back).
Finally, the landlord decided to proceed the tenancy with an other agency (apparently with cheaper fees) and we remained empty handed! I understand this might not be entirely dependent on the agency but it won't change my opinion about Barnard Marcus Streatham! Very unprofessional and UNRELIABLE!
The only quick process was the one of deducting money from our account to remove the ad of the property from their website. Of course we still waiting for the money to be refunded (and of course we haven't been told when the money will be refunded....).

If I could leave minus stars for this estate agent I would! I can safely say one of the worst if not worst estate agents I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. Arranged multiple viewings with them on a Saturday morning to be contacted on the morning of my viewings to be told the estate who was going to be showing me the properties was ill and that all of the timings had to be moved. No problem, these things happen.

I couldn't do the other timings as had other viewings on but agreed to see one house in particular. I was then contacted while standing outside the property to say the agent was running 10 minutes late.

20 minutes passes I call the office and there's no answer.

I wait another 30 minutes

At this point I was so annoyed I went to their office round the corner only to find they've closed early (professional)! On the Monday when I contact the office to complain I was told by the Manager Shelley "I don't know I wasn't there" great feedback! She then transfers me to the agent (who for the life of me I can't remember her name) who swears blind that she was there (she 100% wasn't) and when i asked her why didn't she call me she couldn't say anything only that how could i miss the car given it was branded with their logo..obviously said for the benefit of her manager! Do yourself a favor and seriously avoid at all costs or use BM in South Croydon instead and ask for Elliot, he's lovely and super professional!
