I rented out a flat managed by Connells, Canterbury, for over 7 years. For the first few years the service was good, and staff were available and proactive. However, in the last two years the management service of my flat was very poor…staff disinterested and checkout appalling . No proper checkout photographs taken and the last tenants left the flat in a mess, with a lot of their own items just left and had to be disposed of at a large cost to landlord. Very unhappy with Connells response to my complaints. As a landlord I was making less and less money and it was very stressful, so eventually decided to sell property.... Read more

When selling your house its extremely hard to know which estate agent to use as there is so many. We planned several agents to come round and value the house and out of all the agents, Tom from Connells was by far the most professional of them all. We found Tom, and the whole team at Connells extremely supportive, friendly and accommodating to all our requirements throughout. The team have been exceptionally patient and kind to us, as we have had the unfortunate situation of several houses falling through, however they ensure to keep you positive about finding your next home. Simon the branch manager, has also been amazing throughout the whole experience, with his professionalism and full understanding of each stage of our progress, assisting where ever he can. We had the pleasure of using Roger, the mortgage advisor who has just been fantastic, he is extremely knowledgeable and flexible in ensuring to get the best service for you. After having our house on the market with another estate agent in Canterbury for over a year without selling we switched to Connells where Tom & Simon found us a buyer within a couple of weeks of the house being marketed with them. They were both extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help us. I would recommend using Connells if you are selling a property they were professional and efficient. It took a long time and tenacity to sell our last house, because two buyers pulled out, Covid and getting the mortgage turned out to be problematic. Tom and Simon have sold 2 properties for me in the last 12 months and helped with a 3rd. Love dealing with them. Always helpful and friendly and consistently work with you during the sale process to push the sale through. I have dealt with most of the estate agents in Canterbury, at one time or another over the last 15 years and it really boils down to the person you are dealing with. Tom and Simon are at the top of the list. Only downside is the frequent calls you get from the central back up office system, asking how things are going, especially when you have just spoken to someone at the local office! The back office guys just need to back off a little. :)... Read more

Called to book in 3 viewings 5 days before. I called back to chase and was told one was arranged with the vendor and they were waiting on the tenant for the other. The one on Saturday was booked in. I travelled 60 miles for the viewing on Friday and after 15 mins waiting I called to be told we haven't got anything booked in and that the lady I booked with wasn't in. Luckily I had other viewings but I had waited around an extra 2 hours for this one! He said he'd check my Saturday viewing was actually booked. Saturday morning I received a call from the lady I originally booked with (no apology for the mistake the day before until I raised it, she wasn't even going to mention it) to say the vendor for the Saturday viewing was ill. I think what probably had happened was this wasn't booked in either. If I was a vendor I'd want to know they're missing opportunities to sell your home. I dealt with Sandersons, Miles and Barr and Mark Smith and found them all a pleasure to deal with.... Read more

Great friendly staff! My experience has been great so far. Having a busy life makes it difficult to organise meetings, and it feels like Tom at the Canterbury site has gone above and beyond. Coming out to my flat on Monday evening, after I had got home from work, to go through my options and valuation of the property. Tom came prepared with info on what the property could be worth and relayed it to a property simpleton (me) in a great way. I really do feel confident that I will find my next property through these guys. I have had conversations with Tom, Simon & Roger and can safely say each time has been a pleasure, positive feedback is rarely given, but here I feel is well deserved. Don't bother ringing this agent as they never call you back, we've been with this agent for four years and the first few years they were pretty reliable. However since the agency has come under new management the service has been abominable. I am so disgusted with the lack of good service, they are barely able to let our properties despite having never had an issue with it before, they never complete the tasks they say they will, they don't call you back and they seem to think that they are in charge of your properties and thus able to make decisions without consulting the owner. They have also managed to lose two set of our keys and expected us to pay for it. I wouldn't use them ever again, use a different agent if you want good service and a successful letting.... - The company motto may as well be "never admit mistakes". They are all about corporate image and do not give a damn about tenants' rights or common courtesy. - Unlawfully left me without hot water or heating for well over a month. When I formally complained about a dodgy contractor not turning up several times, they accused me of intentionally not letting him into the house. Because logic. - They also blamed me for not taking more time off work to accommodate said unreliable contractor (who was supposed to have a key but failed to) - Connells failed to turn up to their own flat inspections multiple times. On one of these occasions, it was cancelled last minute "due to rain", despite the fact my flat was 3 minutes' walk from their office and I had waited in all day because they can't organise themselves enough to have keys - Your deposit means nothing to them. Christine Fitzpatrick, lettings "manager", became uppity with me for not accepting unreasonable demands from my landlord, and implied I was being somehow ungrateful. - They treat you like you're certifiably crazy if you're assertive and don't bend to their demands. If you *have* to engage with these con artists, take a hard stance and know your rights. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Edit: Connells staff told my landlord that I had written this review, and made personal remarks about my character because I had the *audacity* to share my honest experiences. That's precisely the kind of "professionalism" you can expect from Connells.... Read more

Students do not go here!!! You have to pay hunderes in 'letting fees' and deposit money is disgraceful. They have us paying over £1,000 before we could even move into the property not taking into account student loan does not come until end of September. Horrible place of business. We tried for days to arrange a viewing and always got told that someone would call us back but it never happened. Every time we rang the person we needed to speak to was never round and so we'd be forced to hang up and wait for them to call us. Then we get told the property we were looking at was rented- even though it was still up on the website as being vacant. So we called again to see if this was the case, it seemed that it was and once again we were told that someone would call us back. But of course that never happened. The staff are so unprofessional and completely rude. I will never use this letting agency ever again.... Read more

Have had a very bad experience with these agents; was told that I could view a house on a Thursday at 11.30am, travelled from a different city and booked a hotel so that I would make it for the appointment on time. The next morning kept calling and was told the agent I had dealt with (Sam) was off for the day, that someone else (Rachel) would call me back. No-one called, and it seems i wasted money on hotel expenses due to their inefficiency. This seems to be the way this agency operates.. avoiding customer calls, never calling back as promised. Whether laziness or disorganisation, this agent needs to be constantly chased for answers to questions and gives the distinct impression that sales enquiries are all a bit of a hassle. Sold properties remain advertised for months with no indication of being under offer, relying on repeated follow ups to confirm if sales have gone through which, combined with a reluctance to promptly answer email enquiries at first time of asking, further frustrates. These annoyances should concern any potential vendor. I have an increasing reluctance to bother booking viewings through Connells due to the above, particularly the fact that advertised properties may not actually be for sale. We come for an appointment for viewing on Saturday. A woman who was on the phone when we came in. We waited she finish her call then. I said to her that I have an appointment for viewing. But she refused to help. Instead find out who we are and which property is that we come to view. she started to lie. She started to talk that the apartments are very expensive where I am to view,; that why I wanted to rent an apartment in Canterbury?. I came to my second viewing. I have given the agency my details. The first time was only myself that viewed the apartments. Appointment was made to have my son have a look as well. She told us that the landlord does not want any families in their apartments. I don't believe that for a two-bed or three-bed room apartment is only for a couple who are in work. She didn't even ask what is that I do. In fact, I don’t think she care at all. She is either not wanting to take the walk to show the apartment or she is a total un-professional who should not be in her work place. I would tell her to stay at her own home and to be only miserable, rude to herself. Un-believable.... Read more

This is a unscrupulous letting agent. Pleas be smart, when dealing with them. They will say only good stuff about the property, before you sign the contract. They are so unprofessional that they have never ever complied with the law in respect of 24 hours' written notice before the entry. They've multiple times knocked on my door directly without prior notice, asking for room viewing. After being told our offer had been excepted by the vendor and discussing this with an agent of Connells "the property is yours"...... we instructed people to move fast as the vendor had wanted....... only for the agent to allow a new offer to come in and outbid us on the property. We feel that the agent has acted unprofessional. At the end of the day the only person to lose anything has been the vendor of the property and he has now been let down by the other bidders.... Completely incompetent, even for estate agents connells are notably shabby and unprofessional in their service. Due to their own fault myself and other tenant had been refused our deposit return, eventually over 4 months later after daily phone calls and emails they realised it was their error. Terrible handling of any situation, constantly passing you off to their main office in Maidstone or another colleague. In addition they seemed to struggle letting any tenant know when a viewing was to happen and would just turn up to the property unannounced, despite repeated pleas for them to contact us a day before as the law requires.
