It has been a pleasure to deal with Connells in Exeter, both Jenny and Gabe on the Estate Agent side and Sarah on the Mortgages.
Connells are a big firm but still prioritise customer relations and I have always been able to get hold of someone when required, something that a lot of firms lack in this day and age.

Had a viewing for a cluster of properties that were being advertised through Connells, Exeter and was contacted by Gabe who showed us around the properties. After I showed big interest in purchasing a specific property for myself, he was able to book me in as the first person to view the properties which was first thing on a Saturday morning. This allowed me to be the first person to put in an offer! He is very professional, but also very friendly and very passionate about helping people! He is very knowledgeable about the processes and also takes time to learn about the properties. Working with Gabe has overall been a very positive experience and can't recommend him and Connells enough!

I had been trying to view a property that Connells had for let. I made my first enquiry 6 weeks ago and have since called them 4 times to find out when I could view it. Each time I rang I was told that someone would call me back and nobody ever did. Very unprofessional and extremely poor service! Would not recommend them to anyone. I have since rented a property through another local estate agent whose service was fantastic. I’m sure the landlord of the property would be over the moon at this service for perspective tenants!

If I could give zero stars I would. They tried to force us into using their in house broker (which of course they get extra commission for) and they fabricated a cash buyer. Their exact words were “there is a cash buyer but if you use our broker we will go sale agreed with you today”. We now know there was never any cash buyer.
It’s actually illegal for agents to insist that you use their in-house broker and Connells have been reported for this before. Funnily enough the call was made from a work mobile so there is no recording.

I've gone elsewhere to another company and received an excellent quality experience with no fuss or hassle, and the communication is very good, so connells missed out on good business due to their unprofessional inadequate offerings! . you're better off going somewhere professional!!

Unfortunately, I made the alert through another website that I was looking to sell my house and buy a new one. After that, Connells called me daily for two weeks, even after I told them I already found an agency to sell my house, pushing me to go with them too. Now, after 5 months, they keep calling me every few weeks, even if I asked them to removed my contact details from their archives.

I should clarify that my feedback is as a buyer, not a seller. Connells Exeter has a great team in place. I have visited many properties with Billy, and I would like to highlight how professional and well informed he is. I really appreciate his good manner (and patience!).

Horrible people. Unprofessional bullies. They will force your rent up in the minimum time window required by law. They ignore all requests for paper copies of their intentions to increase rent. They withhold information required to adaquately contest rental price increase. They are essentially crooks.
If you allow these criminals to manage your property as a landlord, expect to incur large court costs. If you have to deal with these bullies as a tenant, expect to have any requests you make for essential repairs to be either botched or ignored.
It is hard to articulate just how dishonest and outright horrible these people are. They will force a rent increase while your living space is in a complete state of disrepair, then threaten you with legal recourse when you request your living space at least be made habitable before increasing your rent more than 20% in a single month.
Avoid at all costs.

Jenny and the team at Connells have supported me over the last few months with the sale of my house and purchase of another (both with Connells). From start to finish, they have been nothing but calm, kind and professional. Jenny has always responded quickly to anything I have asked of her, and she has made me feel as if nothing is too much trouble, going above and beyond to make the process as smooth as possible. Jenny has been an immense help at times when I have been stressed out with the lack of response from solicitors, and when I have felt as if nothing is happening; she has contacted so many people on my behalf, in order to keep things moving. The communication between the whole team also seems excellent; I have spoken to Mitch, Sam and Harry on numerous occasions, all of whom have been friendly and diligent and ensured that messages have got to the right place. Possible the worst experience and service I have received from a company thus far in my life. From the very start of our tenancy it was evident that connells Exeter have the organisational skills and follow-through of that of a todler. It took chains and chains of emails to sort the most simplistic problems which could have been sorted almost instantaneously had someone taken some semblance of responsibility. The house was not cleaned when we moved in and false promises were made the whole way throughout our tenancy many of which were never resolved. Up to this point… where we have moved out and are still receiving threatening emails about arrears that we do not owe for the month after we have moved out and furthermore not a whiff of a word regarding deposits owed to us. It was by no means an easy transaction but everyone at Connells made it feel like a team effort getting us to exchange. The level of service, pro activity and professionalism from the team at Connells Exeter is a wile different level and experience to other estate agents I have used in the past. We were unlucky enough to purchase a house that was on the market with Connells. From the start we got the impression that their corporate policy was to extract as much profit and commission from the transaction as they possibly could rather than ensure a smooth and stress free sale for the most important transaction the customer is ever going to make.
Our mortgage in principal was ignored and i was made to sit through an ‘affordability interview’ which was in fact a hard-sell of Connells mortgage services. We had arranged our own mortgage and showed the evidence but i was told repeatedly that if we went with Connells mortgages my offer would be more likely to succeed. I declined but now my top borrowing limit was apparently common knowledge to Connells and every time i had contact with Connells i was still repeatedly asked whether i wanted to use their mortgage services and trusted partner Solicitors. No already!
Onto their trusted partner Solicitors, Premier Property Lawyers or PPL. A conveyancing factory in Coventry who have a business model of paying commision to EA’s and taking on cases in huge volumes. A company who had huge security breach in late 2021 and went completely blank and offline for 8 weeks leaving thousands of people’s property sales in the lurch and refused to communicate and are facing a class action by customers. This is who Connells recommend?!! (Cough cough did i mention commission?). Anyway they didn’t persuade us but unfortunately they did persuade our sellers. 2.5 months later and our Solicitors had received nothing from PPL. Connells just kept telling us that everything was fine but in the end we got so frustrated that we contacted the elderly sellers daughter to find out whether they were actually serious about selling or not. This saved the sale and smoothed a lot of miscommunications. Apparently they were as frustrated as we werecwith PPL and had apparently been told by Connells at the start that we were using PPL and if they did the same the sale would go quicker and smoother. Just to clarify at no point did we ever consider using PPL.
The upshot was eventually the sellers changed to a local solicitors in the office next door to ours, started from scratch again and the sale then went through in a relatively speedy 2.5 months. This was due to good comms between solicitors and the lack of interference from Connells who from my point of view did absolutely nothing at any point to progress the sale.
We eventually did get our house so im not writing this review from bitterness at losing out. However i am bitter that Connells, through their own greed and interfering, managed to double the time and quadruple the stress that this transaction took. I was still so angry on completion day that i asked my wife to go and pick up the keys as i didn’t trust myself to be civil. Im not anti-Estate Agents, i ve used some good independent Exeter ones in my time but this corporate entity is just greed, greed, greed and i do not recommend them in the slightest.

Whilst we have not bought a property with Connell's we have been using their mortgage services and we cannot recommend Shane enough. He helped us explore all of our options and consider the best option for our individual needs. It did not feel at all corporate, it felt very individual and personal, allowed us to be very honest about our financial needs, with Shane having our best interests at heart. Highly recommend. His communication is second to none and nothing seems too much bother.
There is just one small thing to note. We first rang to book viewings for properties, they were keen to help however they prioritised booking me an appointment with their mortgage service (not what I had originally rang for, but was happy to agree to and am pleased we did now) and then when I said that I was unavailable on the one day they offered for the two properties I wanted to view they said they would get back to me and didn't say when and ended the call. It frustrated me, as I felt that it was unhelpful and slightly unprofessional. However, I did send an e-mail explaining my experience to them and they rang back straight away and rectified it, by organising the viewings for us and apologising. After this point the service was second to none, therefore it was just a small thing to note, possibly due to busy-ness and it was dealt with well.

I would avoid buying or selling with this estate agents in Exeter if you can. They unfortunately employ some quite rude and abrupt staff. Younger men working for them are generally polite and try their hardest. However, I had a nightmare buying a property via Connells, especially on completion day. I had little communication from Connells in the run up to completion and nothing on the day itself. I had to phone them to find out when the keys would be available. They kept saying they were chasing the vendor about this but never got back to me. During the course of that day I phoned them 5 times and emailed twice. My emails went unanswered. I should have got my keys mid-morning but the vendor didn't hand them over until about 4pm. In my last call I spoke to a female senior negotiator who told me if it mattered this much to me I could go to the property myself and stand outside until the vendor leaves and handovers the keys! I was gobsmacked that they speak to their customers like this and of course it matters to customers when they are buying their own home and have handed over vast sums of money and bound by things like mortgage contracts. Also, that is their job to ensure the vendor hands over the keys not the customer. There was enough staff in their office that one of them could have gone to the property to find out what was taking the vendor so long and to ensure they handed over the keys immediately as legally obligated to. I was advised to use in-house / recommended services for mortgage and conveyancing to make my offer better and to speed up the process so did so. Mortgage advisor was excellent and can't fault them. However, conveyancers I was instructed to use by Connells were a nightmare and hard to deal with, especially when their online platform went down for 4-6 weeks. If the conveyancers offered are Premier Property Lawyers stear well clear. Also, no understanding of people working long days etc. and not being around to reply at the drop of a hat. Several times I wrote emails asking them to be forwarded to Connells senior area management. Not once did they respond. No doubt this review will get a standard response asking me to forward my complaint to an email address. But what is the point when they don't respond to emails and don't seem to care about customers anyway? Once they have your money they aren't bothered about you, their service or the staff the employ and how they deal with customers.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Rented a property with them for just over a year. Where do I start?
-I arrived at the property and it was filled with rubbish Connels told me this was not their responsibility even though I was told by them it would be cleared before move in date.
-I always paid my rent on time direct to my landlord as per my tenancy, yet Connels had NO communication with them and on several occasions sent threatening emails about debt collectors. This took months to resolve as they did not bother/care
-the property I was renting was out on the market. I was told a pack of lies from their branch manager. How all the viewings would be on one day and it wouldn't be on the market until after Christmas. YET viewings started before Christmas were on many different days and on one occasion I was not told of a cancellation and was not communicated with about the dates of viewing is a clean manner.
-their photographer was almost an hour late and didn't apologise plus I was pressured into allowing these photos to be taken 2 weeks before Christmas when I told them I was incredibly busy with work and they then has the cheek to tell me to tidy up in 2 days...!
Awful. I would advise against renting or buying with them as they just want your money, they have no idea what customer service or professionalism is.

They are very unprofessional and don’t care about customer service. They scheduled viewings and don’t hang around for customers even when they booked us in last minute! Made us drive to viewing with a 7 weeks old baby and didn’t bother waiting when we were 5 minutes away in a traffic jam! They book jobs in and then send out wrong details, when you go to change their mistake they make you go through 100 questions to sell products you don’t even want or need! Hard selling and deceiving! Be careful with this agent! They Also call you when a cancellation happens from their side to make you go early and don’t wait for you when you make effort to go early!

I offered on a house via email, no reply to my email. They called me a few days later insisting I needed an affordability calculation to reassure the buyer that I was proceedable, despite me already having an agreement in principle. I attended because I wanted to do all I could to try and secure the property. There was so much pressure to use their in house mortgage advisor for a £600 fee, despite me already having a free advisor. Their mortgage advisor was so persistent it made me quite uncomfortable. He continuously implied that I would not look good in the vendors eyes if I wasn't invested in the house...ie have spent £600 for his services as a sign of commitment. The house has gone now and I wonder whether my offer was even presented to the vendor or whether it went to someone (possibly with a lower offer) who did use their service and paid the extra £600. As a vendor and a buyer, I would steer clear.

*Amazing Customer Service from Amelia Evans and team, THANK YOU*
I have sold and bought properties before and rarely had any need for Agent involvement, however our journey with Connells Estate Agents has been a rather long one through no fault of Connells but rather unforeseen circumstances out of their control by other agents and 3rd parties. We initially marketed with another agent and were unsuccessful in selling our property, after 3 months we decided it was time to move to Connells and they had us STC within 4 weeks. My only reason for not choosing Connells in the first place is because they had been described as an 'aggressive agent', I feel the use of the word aggressive is unjust and actually in my opinion they are Powerful, Influential, Dynamic and Energetic.
I connected with every member of staff on a personal yet professional level from start to finish and I genuinely feel like throughout every step of the way they had our best interests at heart.
One member of staff I 100% have to mention is Amelia Evans, through every stumbling block we had she remained calm, reassuring, detailed and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her and despite a lot of contact from myself she remained professional throughout. She even went the extra mile to check in with the team when she was on holiday to make sure we got to exchange contracts by our given deadline.

They do what they say they will. They seem to overvalue your property and charge a fee based on that figure. They are not hugely pro-active (whilst they claim to be this is hard to guarantee). They have multiple different departments that all don't seem to know what's happening and also recommend against using the lawyers they recommend. I am not sure they are particularly cheap and they tend to do very little unless continuously prompted.

If I could give minus stars for this estate agents I would.....
We recently bought our first home through this estate agents and it was one of the worst experiences of our life!
We initially started off well and had our offer accepted within 24 hours of making it. Unfortunately after this it just went horribly wrong!!
The women who we dealt with is somehow a senior negotiator at the agents and she had been nothing but rude and patronising on every encounter with her!
We are now aware that this estate agents are well known for telling there sellers and buyers to use their solicitors (who aren't real solicitors just case handlers) and mortgage advisor (selling the idea that this will speed up the process) and then telling them if they don't use them, they are unlikely to have an offer excepted or be able to sell their property through them.
We were very close to having to pull out of the sale because their solicitors did not reply to enquiries our solicitors had sent almost 3 months prior and when they did they were asking our solicitor what to do as they were not sure how to complete the enquiries!!
When we challenged the women we were dealing with on this and explained that our solicitors fees were mounting up because of the time and pure incompetence of these solicitors she simply stated "Well it's not my fault that you haven't used fixed priced solicitors" We were absolutely disgusted with how unprofessional and rude she was, and again we felt this as a whole for our experience with Connells estate agent.
They also decided our completion date without telling us before the day, and had the audacity to expect our solicitor to release the funds for mortgage within 1 day to exchange and complete on the same day with no notice! We were so thankful for our solicitor and we would still be without a house now if it wasn't for all her hard work!
We certainly would not recommend and will make it a point to never ever use them again!

Professional, caring and the team did everything in their power to make sure I felt I was being heard and if I had a little wobble they were there immediately with reassurance and encouragement. Nathan came into our home and spoke to both my children, made a fuss of the dog etc, he came into a home and respected it. Nathan was the only agent to come in to estimate they house to get buy-in from both of my sons, I can’t thank him enough for that. After the sale of the house the offer to still assist was strongly in place. I just can’t fault Emily, Sam, Tracey and Amelia and the rest of the Connells Exeter team

After several months of having my house for sale with another local agent I made the change to Connells and thank goodness I did! Firstly I had the pleasure of meeting Nathan the branch manager who couldn't have been more professional and reassured me that I was making the right decision to move to Connells, he also talked me through all my options and ways to sell and market my property which was very helpful and he helped me to understand exactly how selling with Connells works. Once my property was for sale with Connells, James managed to get me two full asking price offers within the first week of my property being for sale with them and it was a pleasure communicating with him over the phone and via email. I had multiple viewings which were conducted by Tracy who was very professional and enthusiastic and was a delight to see every time I had a viewing and finally I had the pleasure of dealing with Emily who managed to tie up the deal within the day and was very swift and prompt when communicating with her. It makes me wish I would've gone with Connells to sell my property this time last year and I may not have had several months wasted by other agents then. To anyone who is thinking of using Connells I would 11/10 recommend them, they were professional and had an upbeat attitude right from the start and there communication is second to none. The agent that was sent to do our viewings in Exeter didn’t know anything about the properties. Not the EPC, not if it was in a chain, not what the parking situation was. It’s already hard to accept agents’ dishonesty, when they’re also incompetent it really makes it an unbearable experience.

Didn’t realise the agents and solicitors had made a fundamental error in the house purchase until the day before exchange (after a four month legal process) and this led the house sale to fall through, disappointing myself and the vendor.

Despite assurances re wearing PPE, this was not always worn (this was very important as we are key workers) and viewing were unannounced at times, with no alerts.

I write regarding the service provided by Beth and Luke. I came into Exeter office seeking to rent a flat in the area.I met with both the individuals mentioned and I found them both to be welcoming, professionally friendly and very informative.
Through all my dealings they both always presented in this way when i telephoned one of them was always available and always as helpful and informative as possible. I also point out that I was regularly contacted by Luke in keeping me informed with all necessary developments.
It was also noticeable that whilst always being as efficient as possible, if Luke was ever uncertain regarding a question or piece of information then her would immediately refer to Beth who was always competent in addressing any issue. It was noticeable that Luke worked efficiently under Beth's professional guidance. All of their work successfully enabled me to complete the rental of a property.
The work of Beth and Luke was positive and professionally very competent but it always carried with it a professional friendly approach.

I had put my house on the market with Connells after having three other agents out. Nathan was very professional, enthusiastic and assured me my house was very saleable. He had the professional photographer out to take photos and the details looked amazing. I had spoken with Emily in the branch who booked in a lot of the viewings for our open house. The team we're great and kept me up to date with the process. After the open house we had multiple offers come in. Nathan and Emily were able to get us £20,000 more than the bottom of our guide and £40,000 more than the other agent valued the house at. Its safe to say I am more than impressed with Connells Exeter and would recommend to anyone looking to sell/buy or use their financial services. Incredibly impressed to say the least.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT... ever use this estate agents. Every single person in this office is terrible. Not one of them have a clue what they’re doing I’m quite surprised they’re still running. It has taken them a disgusting amount of time to give us our deposit back. We had no Itinerary or any help when we first moved in. They lied about how much the house would cost to engage us into renting the house. They have given us no help with anything with the house and now we have moved out are trying to charge us for things that are not even our fault. Terrible company with terrible staff.

Treated like a second class citizen. Connells Exeter. I moved out of my flat on 25/06/19. A week later not having heard anything I rang them. Only to be told they were waiting for me to ASK for my £800 deposit back. Sent off the details straight away. No dispute with the landlady. Should be straight forward. NO not with Connells. They refuse to return a call ( several) my ex landlady managed to talk to them and was told instead of 10days ( with no dispute) it can take up to 30days. I’m running up bills on my credit card. And they are getting interest off of my money. BE AWARE. Small print. !!!! Never heard from them the whole 12 months I was in the flat. Was led to believe only the landlady could apply for the deposit to be repaid as long as no damage to the premises. Lesson learned. I would never use CONNELLS of EXETER again. You have more rights living in a cardboard box.

My fiancé and myself recently rented a place from Connells in Exeter. Due to the short period of time that I need to get everything ready I have spoken to pretty much everybody in Exeter. I haven't got a huge budget for the rent so a lot of agencies had told me that I won't be able to find anything. I called up Connells and spoke with a gentleman called Ash we viewed one place and loved it. It was within my budget as well. Later a lady from the letting team called Rebecca have helped me with every single step along the way from securing the place and finally signed contract. The whole process was completed within a week. It is amazing.
If you are new to Exeter like ourselves and needs help with finding a place and get everything done quickly. Look no further. Connells is the place to be and the team is super friendly I was a bit worried that I might not able to get the place that we love due to my fiancé is moving from Norway. The team had ensured me everything that there's nothing to worry about.
Amazing team and efficient. They still have some really nice places available. Personally planning to buy our own home soon and for sure I won't bother with others. I got my help ready before starting.

Have escalated, and still no reply from head office as to when they will refund me. Now having to go to small claims court and their ombudsman to recover my money. Went in even though I'd heard bad reviews as thought I'd make my own opinion. Was said hello to by a guy who had quite a messy desk and after sitting down found he was a bit unorganised... Though maybe he was new so thought id give him a chance. I was looking to rent in 1 and a half months time and was plainly told there was no point looking now as no properties would be avaliable even though I'd seen one on there website that wouldn't be avaliable until a month from now. Took my details incase anything came up.... Only heard from them 1 1/2 months after.... Just not a great first impression and feel like I was being fobbed off as not worth being a customer yet. Not a great experience unfortunately.

Let me state that giving them 1 star Is a luxury that they don't deserve. My first point of contact was Bart who was helpful and approachable. I then was passed onto Ash. That's when this awful journey began and the worst 2/3 weeks of my life. Upon agreeing to go for a property I was constantly asked to pay the holding fee of £500. I checked and double checked that this would all be fine and go ahead. Once I paid the fee... I never heard from them again unless I made contact. The only time they contacted me was 2 weeks into agreeings the property.... He told me that the property is no longer available but not to worry he found me a property exactly the same quality. The rent was more. No drive. Permit parking. Garden was a bomb site. House was in awful condition. If an estate agent says it's the same you'd expect them to know what they are talking about. Clearly not.
I was luckily enough to be saved from this hell by going to another estate agent. Found a perfect house and when I was viewing the house they asked about why there was such a rush to find a house in 1 1/2 weeks. Once I mentioned Connells they just laughed and said we hear it all the time. And they even knew about Ash and just laughed. The lady I spoke with was informative and kind and very approachable. Wasn't trying to push me to take the house. Unlike Connells who just kept going on about the house wanting us to have it. Which put me off more and ash had no knowledge of the property.
Now I'm settled in my new house and I raised a formal complaint with Connells. They said it take 15 days to get a reply. I held back from leaving this review incase the complaint I had was resolved fairly well. Unfortunately but not surprisingly I was given an email by the Area Manager stating stuff that I could of told anyone. It makes alot more sense that if the area manager is that incompetent then the staff will follow in the footsteps.
All I can say people is go else where. Don't even take the risk as you'll probably regret it. The other estate agent I dealt with was Your move and the team was incredible. Polite, helpful and informative. I imagine if they didn't know something they would tell you the honest truth not fill you with some lies. But anything I needed from them they were helpful.

I always used to use another agent to rent my properties but recently purchased a new property and i am really impressed with how the whole process has been handled by the lettings team. The manager Bart was very helpful and professional and made sure that even before i have completed on the property, the listing is ready and comprehensive. After completion they were able to source a tenant for me to move into the property within 2 weeks. I'm really impressed with how efficient and informed the service was and i will be using Connells to deal with my other rental properties.

Driven by sales and just interested in your money.
I was sucked in by the sales pitch which was a mistake from the start. As soon as I has signed on the dotted line, I never heard from the sales guy ever again! He had got exactly what he wanted.
They were very pushy in wanting us to get the photos of the house done, suggesting the date of signing as clearly they wanted it on the market as soon as possible but we wanted to make the house look as good as we could.
Appointments were booked to see our house without any consultation. One time, we were called 30 mins before confirming a viewing.
Once an offer was accepted, it was just push push push to get forms filled out. No appreciation that we both worked full time.
They tried to force us into using the solicitors that they recommended- and when prices were compared they were far more expensive than others. And you have to pay £500 to use their mortgage advisor when the ones we used were free and very good.
This is the first time we have sold a house and haven’t enjoyed the experience with connells. For the money they charge, you would expect top service but we just felt pressurised and harassed throughout the process. A national business with no personal touch.
I would not recommend them and won’t be using them again in the future.

I recently used connells to buy a house and was served with Incredibly poor service ,
They are very forceful in trying to make you use not only their mortgage advisor but also their solicitors. Their reasons for doing this was to apparently ‘speed up the sale, and reduce the risk of the sale falling through’
I’ll give it to them, they are very persistent , but it brought me very close to pulling out of the sale myself ! I’m sure the vender really wouldn’t have been happy with that!
Reading through the reviews and having spoken to other people who have had the unlucky chance of dealing with them it looks like it’s a regular occurrence !
Not only did they give me poor service but I was shocked at the way they dealt with other customers in the office over the phone.
I’d highly recommend using anyone in Exeter other than Connells!
If you do find yourself having to deal with them, (with buying a house they have marketed) make sure to contact them on a regular basis as they never communicate with the vendor or relevant solicitors!

Superb! I have just exchanged contracts on my property in Exeter and I can't speak highly enough of the whole team. I asked Nathan to come and value my property and he really took the time to research the market and area to give me a realistic and strategic marketing plan. His valuation actually came in 15k more than 3 other local agents, I challenged him on this but after careful consideration decided to give him a chance. I ordered professional photography and had an incredibly successful open day. From here Francesca and the team managed to find me an excellent buyer at a price 20k above what other agents suggested. I believe this was down to sheer enthusiasm, excellent marketing and a team who clearly hold their customers in high regard. Francesca chased solicitors on my sale the entire way through and constantly kept me informed, I am the first to admit I was a tough customer but this didnt phase her at at. A fabulous team effort from Nathan in the first instance, James (the mortgage advisor who actually arranged my first mortgage seemlessly) and qualified my buyer and Francessca pushing this through to completion. A credit to the company and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to any of my friends or family in the future. Thanks so much for making what could have been a stressful process smooth from beginning to end.

Do not use this estate agents they are the most unprofessional team I have delt with .my daughter moved in to a rented property and had to wait all day for the keys had 45 minutes to move out and return keys at 5.45 pm then they took two payments from her account for deposit without her permission . I can't unfortunately give them a rating, the service has been appalling to both me as a tenant and to my landlord. They can't seem to organise the process of returning a secure deposit post rental period, even after nearly 2 months of leaving the premises. Poor customer service in that none of the staff seem to have any ability to help, or even seem like they can be bothered to help, just pass you on to another department who doesn't get back to you either.

Only giving two stars as sale went through at the end and the person showing us the house was really pleasant and engaging.
Otherwise as a buyer avoid.
Particulars failed to mention covenants and liabilities. Even after we and solicitor identified issues - no acknowledgement or acceptance from Connells they had made a mistake.
Worse - extremely pushy and egregious agent keept on contacting us to drive through sale - even when we were still sorting out thier failures with our solicitor - to the point it bordered on harassment.
If we did'nt really want the house - we would have withdrawn straight off - and at the end we were only one more email/call from Connells away from doing so.
By our expirence as buyers - avoid.

Connells let a few of my rental properties and it always felt like they accepted the first tenant that came along. This has resulted in some tenants getting into rental arrears and on top of that, their admin is terrible. I'm still asking for missing documents for a property let 6 months ago! They don't seem to care about the client, just the money. Best avoided.

Before our property was marketed we had our doubts as to whether Connells were actually up to the standard that Nathan Butt the Sales Negotiator had promised. The sales particulars were appalling not only the grammar but also the details were incorrect in many areas. The so called professional photographs could well have been selling next doors house!!!! Although we had a buyer within 3 weeks I believe it would have sold with anyone who advertised with Zoopla or Rightmove. We have not had any communication from Connells since the offer on the house was agreed. No communication when contracts were exchanged and heard nothing from them since completion 2 weeks ago. This has been appalling service given we have paid them £4620 in fees. I would certainly not recommend the Exeter office.

They were rude and impatient with my wife and provided us with nothing and no help until the buyers pulled out, by which time it was too late. We have been waiting for a refund for over 3 months and have called every week requesting Adam calls us back. He has never called us back. We are still waiting for a phone call and refund.

Very disappointing experience, to be told I was the first person to contact about viewing a house and to ensure I had funds available to secure the house ( which I did ) then to be informed that it had gone to the 'other viewers' I have a feeling the ' other viewers were possibly friends of the man from connells that showed us around.. so very misleading and disappointing.

We can only comment on the mortgage advisor services. James Best was highly recommended to us by a friend and he has certainly lived up to expectations. As first time buyers the whole process was daunting and James took the time to explain everything and answer any questions we had. James was readily available by email, phone or would meet with us in person in the branch. There were a number of issues with the property we were purchasing which added complications to our mortgage application. James was reassuring but realistic throughout and supported us through each hurdle. I had the unfortunate experience of purchasing a house through Connells, Exeter.
I was informed that the seller would only accept offers if I agreed to use (pay for) Connell's solicitors and approved mortgage service - they will say you have to come in and speak to their in-house mortgage advisor... Not knowing any better as a first time buyer I 'agreed' but subsequently managed to contact the seller privately...funnily enough the seller had no idea about this 'rule' and were quite annoyed.
Anyway, after a lot of resistance from Connell's I managed to use my own solicitor and organised a mortgage independently. During the period that I arranged for a building survey of the property both myself and my solicitor were hounded (my solicitor was on the receiving end of a call from Connell's, described as the most aggressive call they had ever received from an agent). This all took place during a time in which I remained on good personal terms with the seller!
In summary, if you are a first time buyer I would avoid using Connell's. If you really want a property listed by them, make sure you have an extremely thick skin and know your rights as a buyer.

We were offered friendly advise about where to buy from the rentals manager Zoe, then we were referred to Megan who took us out a lot of different options. we felt like nothing was too much trouble for them. We kept everything in house by using James to do our mortgage, he got us a fantastic deal for our mortgage and everything went through in a timely manner. As soon as it was ready to be rented Zoe made sure we found great tenants as quickly as possible. All her team were helpful and again talked us through everything. we are now looking to buy another property to rent out and even if we don't find one with Connells we will certainly continue using their services!! Like the rest of Connells, an estate agency to be avoided. As a very experienced purchaser, I have nothing good to say about them whatsoever. All I will say is these are agents who inflate the price of property just so someone will put their house with them. They also fail to pass on offers as legally they should do and they will insist you see their financial advisor and take out their mortgages, their insurance, use their solicitors or they will not pass an offer on. When I see a property advertised with this agency it tells me the vendor is greedy and to be avoided - and I could be the victim of sharp sales practice. There are many fantastic estate agents who are honest and work hard for vendors and buyers but Connells just give the industry a bad name.

I discovered Connells through word of mouth by a friend who recently bought their first property through them. As a first time buyer myself, I thought I would give them a go. Speaking on the phone, one of the agents was very friendly and asked me exactly what I was looking for in a property. Knowing nothing about mortgages, I was invited in to branch to speak to their mortgage advisor Chris. He helped me find the best mortgage deal, better than I originally thought I could get. Seeing Chris also put me on something they call the premier buyers list which meant I got info on the newest properties first. 3 days later they phoned me about a house in broadclyst and took me on a viewing to which I ended up buying! They made my first home purchase very special and ended up saving me money along the way. I highly recommend them as an estate agent! Thanks Connells!

Awful, I booked a viewing with them @ 10am, my partner was supposed to be working so had to lose his shift. We waited outside the property for 15 mins before phoning to be told all phones are on divert and the best we could do was leave a message. We waited another 15 mins in the rain before leaving and we still haven't heard from them. Avoid these guys they're a waste of time!

I fully agree to the comments of Tom Hughes. An absolute useless company and agents. Avoid at all cost. I bought a house advertised by this agency. There was no professionalism and at every stage, felt like dealing with BULLIES. After prolonged wait, when came the day of exchange, a set of wrong keys were handed to us at 6PM with the inmates still living in the property. Finally, it became our responsibility to chase the key and force the inmates to leave our home. The agency didnt even made a formal apology (any apology) for messing up our experience. Keep away from this agency for your own sake.

I initially went into the firms branch on South Street to enquire about having my home valued as I was looking to move to Exmouth From Exeter to be closer to work.
The chap came around to my home around 2 days later and took a keen interest in the place. He gave me a fair assessment on the value and after discussing various costs and marketing packages I was offered a great deal which was better than the other two agents I had also enquired with (Fulfords and Penny's).
I was then invited into the branch to speak to James Best who is their 'in house' mortgage guy. I explained that I was hoping to get an extra £80-100k in addition to the sale of my property as we were looking to buy a larger property due to having children. He was very thorough and got everything agreed in principal for me. I was also added to a 'priority' list which meant if any properties became available in Exmouth, I would be matched to them and called for a viewing first as I had already had everything arranged.
After around 2 weeks of being on the list, I soon started getting calls to arrange viewings. After a further 3-4 weeks, my property had 3 separate offers with 2 of them being at the full asking price. I accepted one of the offers and as they were a cash buyer, the process was extremely quick... All in all, the service I received was excellent and from just thinking about selling in October 2014 to actually finalising everything by March 2015 I can honestly say that the whole experience was stress free.
I would definitely use this firm again if and when I decide to move on again. First Class!!
