I had the worst experience with Connells Marshalswick. I felt that I need to write this review so that what happened to me does not happen to anyone else.
I contacted Connells in September 2022 and they came and carried out a valuation. I was given a good rate and I was happy to sign with them.
During discussions, Connells informed me that I would view and have the ability to approve/amend any description and photos before my property goes live on the market.
I also paid them £50 for an EPC inspection. They offered this as part of the service and it made sense at the time to let them arrange this. The EPC was booked in for 4th October 2022.
The photographer was scheduled to attend on Monday 3rd October 2022 at 1pm.
On 30th September 2022 at 16.25, I was made aware by a neighbour that my property was listed for sale on Rightmove.
I was sent the link and to my surprise, my property was listed with a photo of the front. I have no knowledge when/how this picture was taken as the photographer was not due to come yet. My car was not on the driveway which meant that someone came round when I was not home to take the photo.
The description would not have met my approval and was very basic. For example, under the subheading Garden, it only states 'timber shed'. I would never agree to one bad quality photo either.
I was very upset especially as Section 7(a) of the Code of Practice for
Residential Estate Agents states that a property must not be put on the market without permission from the seller.
I contacted Connells Marshalswick immediately at 16.54 on 30/09/22 to speak to them about this and find out why this happened.
I was informed that both Sophie and Laura were unavailable.
I explained my concerns. The person I spoke to said that its strange that this happened but she could not help me. She proceeded to tell me that my concerns will be passed onto the Manager Sophie and that she will call me tomorrow morning.
Days later, no one contacted me. I read the contract and saw that I had a few days left to cancel (14 day cooling off period). By this point, I had lost trust and confidence in Connells and I sent an email and letter to them cancelling the contract. I also requested as per refund policy, for my £50 to be returned.
I further made a complaint to head office. Prior to signing with them, they would be in regular contact and now when there was a problem I could not speak to anyone.
Connells head office acknowledged my complaint. As my refund was not mentioned, I rang the EPC company who confirmed that Connells had cancelled the appointment. They also informed me that Connells have not paid for the EPC.
I made further requests for my money back but nothing! I did not understand why they were refusing to give me my money back?
I contacted my bank and disputed the payment. Within a few weeks, my bank found in my favour and gave me my money back.
What a horrible experience.
I have evidence to back up this review as I know that it may be hard to believe that a company can act this way.

The actual process of purchasing a property showed us how amazing their customer service was. Debbie at the Marshalswick office was extremely dogged in chasing the chain on our behalf. She regularly updated us and contacted solicitors and agents throughout the chain to eventually bringing the move to fruition.
Without the services of a trusted and well respected agency this would have beeen a far less likely outcome.

Thank you to Shaun, Leone, and especially to Danny for selling our house in what I understand to be a difficult market. We chose Connells as they seemed to have enjoyed a fair degree of success in our area. Our property was on the market within three days of Connells receiving our instructions and viewings started almost immeadiately with the house selling to an offer in excess of the asking price within three weeks. This is where Danny earns our special thanks as he was aware that we needed to sell quickly as we had already found "the house of our dreams" before our property was even on the market. He seemed to appreciate our position and worked relentlessly to ensure that we had a constant flow of realistic potential buyers through the front door. He also maintained constant contact with us by providing feedback from the viewings, and reassurance and advice when it was needed. He also shielded the viewers from our overly friendly Golden Retriever who seemed convinced that they had turned up to play with him rather than buy our house. Bad experience!! Pushy, never listen to what your saying. Don't action what they say there going to do. Bad communication with each other. The manager was very apologetic and gave me a chance to speak, but I feel like there are plenty of other good agents in St Albans that will turn up to value my flat when a booking has been made. Frosts sold my friends flat quickly and got a good price. Only dealt with Connells because I viewed a house with them. Shame.

If there had been less than one star then they would have got it!! Promise the earth and deliver nothing!! No communication between the staff!! Phone us up without knowing our names or how many viewings we have had!! Not that we've had many!! This is our experience after three months!!!

After weeks of trying to find our perfect home we met Scott and we explained to him about our requirements. Scott was very heplful, knowledgeable and was a pleasure to deal with him. Within a few weeks we found the right house for us with the help of Connells. We can highly recommend Connells Mortgage Service as we got our mortgage approval within two weeks.

We have now dealt twice with Connells Marshalswick branch and both times they have been excellent. 8 years ago we bought a small flat and their service was fair, courteous and efficient. Then Connells sold the same flat for us earlier this year, after we had been seriously let down by another agent. The contrast between the other agent and Connells could not have been more stark. Scott and Sophie were as professional, friendly and capable as the other agents had been unprofessional, disorganised and dishonest. Their evaluation was accurate and we sold at the high end of the quoted price range. We sold quickly, having endured a fruitless 6 months with the other agent, and the sale proved solid. All was done and dusted in just over 3 months, exactly as Scott had initially predicted. They worked well with the other professionals involved in the sale, and all was completed with the minimum hassle and the greatest good will.
We are very grateful for the service that we have had and would not hesitate to recommend this branch of Connells to anyone considering buying or selling in this part of St Albans. Thank you Scott and Sophie for rescuing our sale and providing such a good property marketing experience

Selling your house is a notoriously stressful experience, particularly when you have very specific timing requirements, so I am extremely grateful to Scott and his team for managing to make my experience about as straightforward and stress-free as possible. Scott, Sophie and Alison have all been extremely pleasant to deal with - cheerful, courteous and accommodating - but more important to me has been the way Scott dealt with things when they got more complicated or became problematic. He personally ensured that things were being dealt with correctly and transparently and did his best to ensure that my interests were being served.
