I bought a house through Durden & Hunt in September this year. The process was easy and the staff were very helpful. James was the agent and Amanda was the sales progressor.
James was very approachable and friendly and we never felt like he was trying to oversell or push us into making a decision, he gave us plenty of time to make decisions and was happy to take us for repeat viewings.
Amanda was a fantastic sales progressor, she would chase almost daily (which is a good thing) and I really felt confident that she wanted to get things moved as quickly as possible. In the end I think we managed to get from offer to exchange in about 9 weeks which is pretty good going.
I would thoroughly recommend using them in the area as I did not have close to the same sales experience with other larger agents in the area.

First of all we would love to say a massive thank you personally to Amanda, she had supported us from the moment she made contact.as fist time buyers it was daunting with the amount of paperwork and emailing to get things in place but she took everything one step at a time and explained in detail.
we was unfortunately recommended a terrible solicitor but she was constantly keeping us updated, working outside of what she needed to do and went above and beyond to make sure all parties in the chain were kept calm and things were progressing.
Amanda and James (agent) managed to get us exchanged in the nick of time with no dramas at all and explained anything we didn't understand when solicitors were unreachable.
not a bad word to say in all and would recommend sticking with these guys to the end as they will look after you.

James Gibbon and Grace Shepherd of Durden & Hunt Ongar were stars! Brilliant all the way were noticeably different to previous agents Balgores Hayes who blamed the market while making us show viewers around enough times to get on our nerves . However James and Grace had bubbly personalities that made them so likeable and were chatty with viewers but also more committed to selling and James generated more viewings in three weeks than Balgores could in a year but not completely attributable to a slight price drop because James had our keys so if he had another house booked for a view, he would drop by ours with them which seemed novel to us so that was once way James attracted footfall: he may have collected one or two by car! Durden & Hunt are absolutely recommended without fault. Oh and James also successfully renegotiated our purchase price. Excellent! James's only fault is supporting West Ham but he's still on our Xmas card list! :)

We put our house on the market in October 22, between then and March 23 we tried 2 different estate agents and had a grand total of 5 viewings. We called James Gibbon at the Ongar branch of Durden and Hunt and asked his advice as they were selling the house opposite us. They were there that evening to appraise the house and in just over three weeks we had 22 viewings and 2 offers!
Not sure how they did it but we cant thank James and his team enough!

I’m writing of my experience with Durden and Hunt who have recently ‘attempted’ to sell my property. My ex partner decided to list our property with Durden and Hunt back in March, they came round and took photos and the house was listed on Rightmove. As a co-owner of the property I would have expected to have been sent a contract, made to sign a contract and agree to a companies Terms of Business before listing the house and as a minimum, been made aware of any viewings and/or feedback as a result of this. Despite numerous phone calls into Durden and Hunt, I only started receiving communication on the 6th October when I again queried for any updates. Prior to this I was only receiving feedback from my ex-partner. It appears they only felt it necessary to speak to him and I have been made to feel like a second class citizen. I was even in the property for one of the viewings and the Estate Agent didn’t even know my name. I’m not sure if it’s some sort of prejudice against women, or just incompetence but I have been made to feel less important than my ex in the process of trying to sell our house. All in all I have come away feeling extremely disappointed with the service the had provided.

From a rental perspective, Durden & Hunt make the process very slick and easy.
From a business perspective I own a building and maintenance company, DGS Building & Maintenance Ltd and we carry out maintenance issues for Durden & Hunt. They are fantastic to work for, invoices are paid on time and they are always on hand should you need answers from the landlord directly.

Quite an unusual one this as Bishop's Stortford, Herts, my home since 1997, a small/med sized market town, has been dominated by the same agents for quite a while - all doing pretty much the same thing, in the same way, generally speaking. Many of the guys here have worked at several agents in the town so the local property selling and letting culture might seem quite generic, some might say 'sleepy' even - there are however some decent exceptions (before I get grief here!).
When I found a local house advertised by estate agent, Durden & Hunt (D&H) on Rightmove - I didn't recognise the agents' name - it was quite a surprise as I know all local agents quite well having been dealing in property for many years. Meeting James Gibbon from there on the first and only viewing went really well - he's a good (funny!) guy with whom I felt VERY comfortable and quickly, someone who's been through quite some incredible stuff too - he seemed 'lit-up', keen and with his finger very much on the pulse. James/D&H managed to impress well, he came across trustworthy and early-on.
I viewed the property in St Michael's Mead just the once and decided that I would like to put in an offer - D&H were tough but fair (there was two of us in the running I was told) and somewhat annoyingly, they acted VERY professionally in terms keeping everything in the best interests of their seller; there was no funny business (I have heard that some estate agents love a bit of 'funny business'!). I did try to find out what the other bid was - but they played it carefully and wouldn't let on. I can't complain though, we all got there in the end - and I still bought the house at what I believe is a reasonable price.
To this end and to conclude, I would have absolutely no hesitation in using James and his team at Durden & Hunt again to sell a property, it was quite a refreshing experience both as a buyer - and I'm sure it would have been for the seller too knowing they sold to someone in a strong position and for again a good price - and are exceedingly trustworthy too. It felt like everyone in the transaction was in very safe hands indeed. Cheers guys! SS
