I have used Barnard Marcus, Sutton for the purchase of my first property. Being the first, I have a lot of questions and was totally unaware of the process. Wintana Araya (from Barnard Marcus) has come to my rescue and helped me immensely with explaining the entire process. She has patiently handled all my queries and cleared all the doubts. The good part is even if she was away, she used to get back to me at the earliest, which helps me in completing the entire process on time (which was the dire need for me). An overdue review - but never the less needs to be put in. When I purchased a property through them I was forced to use their in house mortgage broker (as did all of the buyers in the development) which of course was illegal. They also promised details about the flat which turned out to be false. Still got all of the above in writing. Law breakers ultimately.

1. Dishonest about my buyer being a first time buyer
2. Recommended Taylor Rose conveyancers who are absolutely appalling. No communication unless I complained and sat on emails for weeks to the point my buyer has submitted a complaint about them.
3. Did not hear from Barnard Marcus at all on completion day. I contacted my buyer directly and waited at the property for final checks and to hand him the keys. Certainly not worth the £6k I’ve paid.

Today I went to do a house visit in Sutton. I was early but faced no issue in viewing the house 30mins before our arranged time. I was impressed by the competence and knowledge of Elliot. I sold an apartment in Sutton through Barnard Marcus. They kept all appointments, marketed the property and an offer was made and accepted within a couple of weeks. The sale went through, and the progression staff made an occasional call to keep things ticking over. I can't say exceptional but a good, efficient estate agent who did everything that was required in a timely and professional manner.

Alex sold our house on the 14th June 2022 to a Hong Kong buyer who wasn't resident here in the UK. When we accepted the offer, I asked Alex who the buyer had their mortgage with? Alex seemed to think this was a bizarre question & asked me why I needed to know? Eh, I need to know that the mortgage is in place, deposit & who the lender is.... Alex wasn't educated on the major fact that no UK lender will give mortgages to anyone who is not resident here. The buyer came to the UK mid July, still no one in the team picked up on this. 9th August after 4 unanswered
phone calls to the office to find out the progress on our sale. Alex dropped the bomb shell & said the buyers mortgage had been withdrawn leaving us high & dry. Said, "don't worry we'll put it back on the market & sell it - no problem" ! Needless to say he didn't sell it or any of the team. 3 months of our time & money wasted through incompetence. Perhaps an intense training day on overseas buyers/mortgages would be beneficial to all the team who don't deserve 1 star!

Barnard Marcus team has provided efficient services to me for renting the property within 2 weeks. As a result, I have no need to extend my hotel accomodation.
Besides, their letting negotiator, Ms Sophie Williams, knows our needs and time restriction. When the original property which I inquired has been rented, she proactively introduced another property offer which was still not posted on zoopla. Thanks a lot and highly recommended.
