I would in particular like to thank Matt, Paul and Claire at Ocean for their property know how, hard work and wizardry. They were instrumental in negotiating an incredibly good price on the sale of my parent’s home. During Lockdown, they stepped up and helped our family at a very difficult time, my Mum had just died of anaphylaxis and my brother had recently received a terminal cancer diagnosis and not given long to live.
They were wonderful, taking the worry and pressure of the sale off my brother, who’d taken on the responsibility. It was a complex process, involving many houses in a chain. They skilfully managed the sale with ease, expertise and a lightness of touch which impressed my brother, who isn’t so ready with praise. My brother, my Dad and myself were deeply grateful for their involvement, resulting in a successful sale which I believe contributed to his peaceful departure.
Two years later, I too was immensely grateful again to Matt, who helped me find a buy to let in Portishead. I’d be looking on Rightmove for over 6 months and was becoming more and disheartened. I approached Matt at Ocean, who within no time, found me a gorgeous place. It far exceeded my expectations. It was so well loved, cared for and I in turn loved it. I credit Matt for being the linchpin in securing not just financial, but also emotional stability for my son and me. He’s created peace of mind which is a huge deal at a time when decisions made concerning hearth, home and potential investments make a significant difference to a sense of security and quality of life.
I’d also like to thank Keith at Ocean for being fantastic in helped navigate me through the letting process and for finding a wonderful family for my rental home. I’d worked hard to set it up as a holiday rental but realised that financially this was an insecure venture for me over the winter months.
I felt very reassured after speaking to Keith who gave me a good understanding of the letting options they offer. After investing so much time and energy setting up the property, I decided that I was done. I now wanted to be as free as possible of any responsibilities and opt for a more stress free life without the need to deal with difficulties, concerns or any legal issues if they should arise. Keith clearly has a wealth of experience and knowledge and dealing with him which has been a very pleasant and positive experience. It makes me very happy knowing that my rental home is in good hands.

I used Ocean property lettings for 5 years to manage an investment property. I had a great service which gave me peace of mind as a Landlady as they dealt with any issues raised by the tenant and could source trades people if needed quicker than I could. When I decided to take over the management of the property myself in the last year Keith McKie in the Portishead branch was very helpful in assisting making a decision which was right for me. I've been trying to move for the past few years, a process impacted and delayed by many different legal challenges including Adverse Land Possession. As with many home moves, there were challenging points in the process, but the home move managers Claire and Emma were brilliant at guiding us through them. They kept us informed of what was happening at each stage whilst also giving the appropriate prompts to push things along when needed.
Matt was also detriment to our sale and helped ensure our home was sold in good time to ensure we had everything in place for us to buy our new home.
Thanks to these guys, but also to everyone in the office who made us feel welcome whenever we had to go in to drop off any documents, sign any forms, or call for any enquiries.

We have been looking at houses for a while now through many different estate agents and Ocean have by far been the best.
Matt Lennon has been amazing!! He is super helpful and has kept us updated throughout. Everyone else that we have spoken to have been great as well.
Luigi the mortgage adviser is also very helpful, patient and was super quick at processing our mortgage.

Last year, I used Ocean to rent out my property. Charlie, who I met in person during the valuation, was fantastic and made me feel comfortable putting my property in the hands of an agent. I've always managed my own properties, but due to legislative changes, I've chosen to appoint an agent. I'm delighted my experience was with Ocean, and I have no reason to consider using another agent in the future.

Have been a tenant with Ocean Estate agents for over four years and can say the whole team are fabulous to deal with. Very professional and responsive. Keith McKie at the Portishead office helped us with our first property. He is excellent! Beth Jenkins was an fantastic property manager, always quickly resolving any maintenance issues during the 4 year period. Then more recently, we are on the move to a property nearer Bristol city centre and Jamie Ashford (Southville branch) has been absolutely brilliant in helping us to find our new home. The process once again has been clear and simple. Jamie has told us everything we need to know about the property. I highly recommend this company to both Landlords and Tenants alike. As a renter with a small dog, this can make the property search a little more tricky, but Oceans understand this and ensured we’ve found the right properties and landlords (twice now). Unfortunately, as buyers - we have had a mediocre experience. The communication throughout the process was hit and miss. This was my first property purchase and explained I didn’t know the steps involved. Nothing was ever explained to us and assumed we should just know. My partner and I felt like an inconvenience pretty much throughout the whole process. The day of completion was the poorest service - we attended the Portishead office with heaps of excitement to collect the keys to our first family home, to be handed a bog standard white envelope containing two keys and to be told they had run out of fizz and something would be sent to us. I’ve never felt so underwhelmed and undervalued. A week later and still nothing…… The fact our exchange date was known for over a fortnight - you’d have thought something could have been sorted, even a card from the card shop 5 meters away!! Or a bouquet from one of the two independent florists on the high street - I know that’s what other Estate Agents manage for their customers. Very poor. If/when we ever come to selling our property, we certainly won’t be using Ocean.

Update: We were refunded out of our letting agent's own pocket to cover the 40-odd quid that we paid for the carpet cleaning machine. That was nice of him, but we still feel that Oceans didn't take full responsibility in this situation, neither were they helpful or considerate.

We moved into a property that was not thoroughly cleaned, despite COVID looming around, my partner having asthma, me having a dust allergy and her having a cat allergy. Additionally, they postponed our move in date because the former tenants requested that. Now - January 2021 - the landlord has served a Section 21 notice that we have to vacate the property.

The nutshell:
.
1. They postponed the move in date twice because previous tenants had difficulty with their house purchase. Lied to us, promised we wouldn't have to move around everything again. Gave us their word and broke it.
.
2. Slow to answer. Furloughed staff due to COVID but Keith was lamenting how busy he was, using it as an excuse to not answer properly or on time. If they're busy, then they shouldn't furlough staff and take gov. money.
.
3. Property not professionally cleaned, it was disgusting. Hair and genital hair in the bathroom, bathtub drain half blocked with hair, cat hair and dirt and dust on carpets. They refused to repay us money for hire of carpet cleaner. My partner has a cat allergy and asthma, we had no choice but to waste our time and money cleaning ourselves bc no company could come on such notice over the weekend.

4. Reference checks took ages. It was through a 3rd party company so Ocean kept denying responsibility.

Don't choose Ocean for letting management. I'd doubt their sales are much better, judging by how rude they are and how much they lie.

A very mixed experience!
The sales department, particularly Joanna, could not be faulted. We were kept informed of all viewings and received detailed feedback. They were particularly helpful and professional at all times.
We had engaged Ocean's legal department to act for us and they were generally good, keeping us informed at each stage of the process.
In fact all was satisfactory until the day of completion.....
We were told categorically and sent written "evidence" that the cheque for the proceeds had been posted. However, it was actually posted 4 days and many phone calls later. Someone was not telling the truth!
Worse was the phone call a couple of days after completion saying that they had forgotten to add the sum of £1,680 to their final account. We had had an email saying that all was finalised and nothing further was required from us so had divided the funds and half had been sent to Canada.
When we queried this, we did not feel that the response from the director was very professional e.g. taking several weeks to reply and being unable to address our names correctly, despite having had communication over several months.
We would recommend Ocean as estate agents to anyone but would strongly advise seeking legal representation from someone who would act on THEIR behalf.

Sold a property through Ocean Portishead. Initial response was fine but after that they showed little interest in the property. Put pressure on to reduce price very quickly and more than once, until reached buyers with less available capital. We meet every request that buyers made. However we were treated with an air of indifference. Paul the sales manager was rude on one occasion and Joanna actually said " we are in a difficult position as we are between you and the buyers side" Well that is what Estate agents do and are paid thousands of pounds for! by the Seller. Didn't complain at time as frightened we would lose buyer if we raised query. Undersold property. If your buying fine; but if you are selling and paying their bill forget it, when I sell again I will sell the property myself. I am very disappointed
