Health ruined by mould; upped rent £150 at the annual review and when I haggled this down, I was issued a Section 21 no-fault eviction 3 months later.
They're genuinely borderline predatory. It took 6 months to fix the flat windows which all had broken handles and did not seal, meaning in winter it was impossible to keep the flat warm. Black mould was present on the check-in report on move-in, and alongside that all the fixtures and fittings were marked as needing repair. I was put through a back and forth for 6 months to have the windows fixed, where they had 5 contractors come out to look at the issue and give a quote. Seemingly they were looking for the cheapest labour going.
That was over winter, meaning I was sleeping in a drafty and moudly flat for that time. Once the windows were fitted, they just put sealant over the mould which doesn't solve the issues.
Through out the eviction process they purposefully mislead and harassed me to apply pressure for me to leave. Directly contradicting advice given by the local council and citizen's advice. As an ambulatory disabled person, it's unfeasible to pack up and move your life within 3 months.
During this period, there were minimum 3 visits to the flat without my prior approval, with less than 24hours notice. Sometimes they would notify me at the end of a working day, so it'd be impossible to get my consent. All for surveyors to appraise the property which has been on the market for over 2 years with no traction.
Twice someone opened the door and walked into the flat whilst I was mid-work meeting. Which is just completely dehumanising and disrespectful.

We recently sold our property through Romans and have been very happy with the service. Their strategy was sound and worked well for us. They have a vast database of prospective buyers which included local buyers, all surrounding counties and London, even attracting international buyers. We dealt with Jack throughout who was always great to work with, easy to communicate with and level headed. He set up a WhatsApp group with us which made life so much easier but we spoke regularly on the phone throughout the process as he always kept us informed. He would consider the risks, pros and cons of a buyer based on their position. His aim was to find a solid, committed buyer and get to completion with the least risk which was also our aim! Their due diligence on prospective buyers was evident and enabled us to make very informed decisions. Once an offer is accepted they assign a move manager through Leaders who has been amazing!! Irene talks to both our solicitor and the buyers, she has access to the emails so can see what’s outstanding. She chases them up weekly and keeps us informed as well as pushing both sides. She can help get answers to our questions and talks to the buyers as well. This service is worth so much, I’ve never had this with any other estate agent. All in all the sale process with Romans has been effective and stress free. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

The overall experience with Romans was excellent. Initially we were apprehensive about engaging with Roman's. A number of years ago our neighbors sold their house through Romans and they often complained about the lack of communication and strong arm techniques. When I first met James during the process to select an agent, I shared these concerns. James assured me that this was the "old" Romans and things were quite different now. I am happy to say this is very true. All of our dealings with Romans, James & his team have been excellent. They have been responsive, curious and seem to have a genuine desire not just to sell our house but to also keep in mind the things that are important to us. It took just over 2 weeks to sell our house. It was always left tidy after viewings and open houses. And Jame's advice on price and selling strategy turned out to be invaluable. Romans Auctions recently managed the selling of my mother’s house, and what was also the home for me and my siblings for many years. My mother is living in a care home with dementia, and had been at the family home for over 50 years. Being in charge of my mother’s finances, we had to make the decision to realise funds from the asset for her care, and achieving the best possible sale price in a short amount of time was a top priority. We approached Romans auctions, as the property was very dated, but had a large plot and plenty of potential. Romans Auctions, specifically Simon Clayton, advised us on the sale and recommended we go down the auction route. Simon helped guide us through the whole process, and they managed the sale of the house making what would have been incredibly stressful time for all the family, a relatively painless and swift process. We listed the house in September, the property sold in the auction a month later, and the sale completed first week of November. The eventual sale price exceeded all of our expectations, and the speed of the process was outstanding. Having lived in the same property for 26 yrs. we were a little apprehensive about going to market and were definitely looking for a high level of support and a safe pair of hands. We talked with three potential local agents and we both felt that James, his Crowthorne team and the Romans organisation generally would fit the bill.
We were not to be disappointed with our choice. The advice, support and marketing were spot on and on going feedback was very good. 22 viewings and 2 realistic offers were the result.
